If anything it should be the other way around. Ikora is building a pretty fucking big Vex Gate *right in the Tower* that could easily start spamming Vex through it, and no one gives a shit. The Drifter has us playing with Taken *a safe distance from the Tower* and everyone loses their mind!

The Portuguese man o' war or man-of-war is a marine hydrozoan often mistaken by a jellyfish but in fact it is a Colonial Organism of the same species, called zooids or polyps. They are all attached to one another that it is impossible for them to survive independently. They work and function as a singular being. It is the closest thing to a Vex in real life.

I haven't been able to raid since Crota's End, as basically all of my friends stopped playing after that. Been solo ever since. But watching this was like almost as good as the perfect raid experience. Taking about lore, stopping to admire the environment and skybox, just a general laid-back experience. Thanks Byf.

Hey Byf, not sure if you'll catch this comment, but maybe you will...something I noticed about the language being used in the naming of the various loot drops specific to the Garden of Salvation raid... I'm sure you've noticed their inherent religious connotations... sanctified, consecrated, etc... but there is something that really stuck out to me, being from a religious background myself, with the names of some of the loot. Most of the loot is named with religious terminology, and in my opinion, mostly generic religious terminology....except for the bow. The bow makes a huge theological statement(whether intentional or not, I can't be sure.) So, in Christian theology, Christ died for the sins of mankind, redeeming all who choose to follow Him... but that redemption is unearned; it is a gift, freely given. The reason for that is, all of humankind are flawed. "The life of sin is in the blood," as Scripture explains...meaning, all humans are born with an inherently flawed nature, left over from when Adam & Eve ate from the apple in the Garden of Eden. That flaw started in the first humans, and was passed down from generation to generation. That is, until One was born outside of that generational inheritance. Christ was born of a virgin, and since there was no earthly father to pass on the genetic code for blood type(modern genetics tells us you receive your blood type from your father's side) that means Christ did not inherit a fallen nature from Adam & Eve's genetics. So Christ was flawless and without sin, yet died for the sins of mankind. This is what sets Christianity apart from the other Abrahamic religions: Grace. You can't earn your salvation. You have to accept that it was a gift. But, in the loot for the Garden of Salvation raid, the raid bow is named, "Accrued Redemption." I'm not sure if they intended to make such a huge statement, but they certainly did so, at least in theological terms... Anyway, I thought it was interesting. Love your vids, brother! I have a working theory that a far more subtle influence of our power beyond throwing grenades and nova bombs. Is that we influence reality so that there's always a way for us to "win" it may not be easy and we can fail but there's always a path.

This is a realisation I had when you were talking about Cayde's memory and he was fighting a "figure with no face and just eyes" but maybe Cayde saw and perhaps fought the Witnessn during the collapse.
No lie, I think this is a better raid guide than others. The lore conversation is engaging and seeing the mechanics in action without too much overblown explanation and people just doing what they've already done quite a few times over makes everything simpler to grasp. Wish more lfg folk could take the time to just see this and not wipe over and over again on, say, everywhere.
33:25 During one of the Nessus adventures Failsafe gets captured by the vex, after rescuing her she notes that she will share her findings with the vanguard. Did this 'imprisonment' of hers, which lasted for like a decade(?), teach us anything we didn't know prior?
The light and dark tether at the end makes sense because the boss is gathering a ton of dark or light energy to kill the guardian and creating the tether diffuses the power into the mote banks and disrupts the destruction and weakens the boss for damage phase.
I don't know if anyone else has noticed this or if this is important lore wise, I really hope it actually is, but the vex structures have always been about 3-D geometric shapes (prisms, cylinders, spheres, cubes), and the boss room is first time in the history of the game we have seen that change. They still have the normal geometric shapes but most of them are twisted and warped. On the right of the screen at 1:14:08 is the best example but its all over that boss area.
just a sidenote... when eris says after you complete the toland quest “how are they able to commune with the darkness without a worm?” she must be referring to the vex imo.
Thanks byf for another great video. I really enjoy your videos but these long explanations whilst having gameplay with a great fireteam I find are the best. With a few jokes of course. I was wondering, will you cover the next raid that is supposed to take place in the scarlet keep? I cannot remember the name of of the top of my head.
The Comfy Geek I mean, kinda... Kabr basically almost sacrificed himself in order to create a weak spot within the vault of glass, in the form of the shield of Aegis. We use the shield to beat the raid, which Kabr and his fireteam couldn’t do because when they didn’t have a “weak spot” in their run. If you remember, I’m guessing you’re a d1 player, we needed the shield to cleanse and do other such things, such as break the shield on that hydra (I forget the name). Without it, my guess is the raid would be impossible, and that’s why Kabr didn’t succeed, but we did, because we had the shield, a sort of beacon of Kabr’s light.
Catching up on lore here and I can't help but notice that the Divinity not only has similar materials to the pyramids, but also seems to have the shape of Labrea's Ruin in its core.
Hearing Byf talk about the religious impulses of the Sol Divisive made me think of Legion in Mass Effect 2 when its talking about the heretics vs the true geth.
It seems the Vex can take on many forms. After his arm took a swim, Asher is part Vex himself; his metal arm is his own organic matter that has been reconfigured by Vex milk, and it’s why the Vex transform worlds by essentially flooding them with radiolaria, gradually turning planets into giant computers
At 42:00 they start talking about the real issue between Guardians and the Vex. Because the Vex think they can't beat the Darkness, but their goal is to be the sole survivor and intertwine with existence, then obviously they need someone else to beat the Darkness for them. And they need that force to also be something they can defeat, or is annihilated in the final battle with the Darkness.The Light would be a strong contender for that job. I think the Vex will ultimately want to guide us into a final battle on equal footing with the Darkness and either have a way to backstab us or they will calculate a perfect parity of Light and Dark so we fully destroy each other.
Okay, speculation time. What if the three stars in the sky of the black garden are the same star. The same star seen from three different positions in space. If the garden is set a drift through space and time, is it possible to for the surroundings to be a combination of all the different perspectives seen from all the different places it lies in? Just an idea.

"Planet with the moon" - @ 1 hour 9 minutes and 30 seconds is definitely the Earth, the moon, and you can see the traveler sitting on top of the earth.

This is a realisation I had when you were talking about Cayde's memory and he was fighting a "figure with no face and just eyes" but maybe Cayde saw and perhaps fought the Witnessn during the collapse.
No lie, I think this is a better raid guide than others. The lore conversation is engaging and seeing the mechanics in action without too much overblown explanation and people just doing what they've already done quite a few times over makes everything simpler to grasp. Wish more lfg folk could take the time to just see this and not wipe over and over again on, say, everywhere.

Bad mission
The light and dark tether at the end makes sense because the boss is gathering a ton of dark or light energy to kill the guardian and creating the tether diffuses the power into the mote banks and disrupts the destruction and weakens the boss for damage phase.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed this or if this is important lore wise, I really hope it actually is, but the vex structures have always been about 3-D geometric shapes (prisms, cylinders, spheres, cubes), and the boss room is first time in the history of the game we have seen that change. They still have the normal geometric shapes but most of them are twisted and warped. On the right of the screen at 1:14:08 is the best example but its all over that boss area.
just a sidenote... when eris says after you complete the toland quest “how are they able to commune with the darkness without a worm?” she must be referring to the vex imo.

I read Kabr, in his dying breath, transformed himself into the shield of Aegis.

Kabr basically almost sacrificed himself in order to create a weak spot within the vault of glass, in the form of the shield of Aegis. We use the shield to beat the raid, which Kabr and his fireteam couldn’t do because when they didn’t have a “weak spot” in their run. If you remember, I’m guessing you’re a d1 player, we needed the shield to cleanse and do other such things, such as break the shield on that hydra (I forget the name). Without it, my guess is the raid would be impossible, and that’s why Kabr didn’t succeed, but we did, because we had the shield, a sort of beacon of Kabr’s light.

Catching up on lore here and I can't help but notice that the Divinity not only has similar materials to the pyramids, but also seems to have the shape of Labrea's Ruin in its core.
Hearing Byf talk about the religious impulses of the Sol Divisive made me think of Legion in Mass Effect 2 when its talking about the heretics vs the true geth.

It seems the Vex can take on many forms. After his arm took a swim, Asher is part Vex himself; his metal arm is his own organic matter that has been reconfigured by Vex milk, and it’s why the Vex transform worlds by essentially flooding them with radiolaria, gradually turning planets into giant computers

The Vex frames are like the gigantic bionicle titan-dudes .there are many small life forms working to power and repair/create these Robotic Frames.
At 42:00 they start talking about the real issue between Guardians and the Vex. Because the Vex think they can't beat the Darkness, but their goal is to be the sole survivor and intertwine with existence, then obviously they need someone else to beat the Darkness for them. And they need that force to also be something they can defeat, or is annihilated in the final battle with the Darkness.The Light would be a strong contender for that job. I think the Vex will ultimately want to guide us into a final battle on equal footing with the Darkness and either have a way to backstab us or they will calculate a perfect parity of Light and Dark so we fully destroy each other.

Okay, speculation time. What if the three stars in the sky of the black garden are the same star. The same star seen from three different positions in space. If the garden is set a drift through space and time, is it possible to for the surroundings to be a combination of all the different perspectives seen from all the different places it lies in? Just an idea.
