hi well winter i just about over here in Oklahoma and i will get back on this in about 3 weeks and soon after post videos so cool got some really cool seats and new carpet and ill show in 3-5 weeks with updates thanks for asking
I’ve got an 85 tide craft in about the same shape. When you rub your hand across it you actually get some flake on your hand. Is it to far gone or do you think this will work on it?
i would think 1. its glitter that's flaking 2.clear coat. So for me i would think if you dont sand down to fiberglass at lease it will be smooth, it really becomes a judgment call is it worth fixing or just make a quick sanding and move on i have a few friends lol they its just a boat dont worry about it!. lmao for me dont need to have wife or kids getting cut with some sharp edge of think clear coat or fiberglass that just happen to be sticking up ... so long its not fiberglass sticking up and its cracked so bad at that spot mit not want to put in water may need to make a repair if just clear coat / glitter its kinda up to you . i hope this helps
Hey gizmo I'm trying the same method that you did on this boat wanted to know where exactly you got the 3M compound I seen a 3M kit steps one through three just wondering if that would work just as well
Hi yes the surface / Gel coat was so bad when rubbing hand over was like 20 - 40 grit sand paper by using just compound it self it would take way.... longer. Here how it works if you have a rough surface need to make that smooth next step is when you have done that it will leave scratch / sand marks so to remove need to next higher grit to remove that scratch then so on so if you start off at 400 grit you need to go higher 800 - 1200 - 2500 -3000 - 10000 and so on to remove the last scratch then it will get to a point were to naked eye you cant see the last scratch that's when the surface looks great and glossy i hope this helps
it is some amount of work but one thing to be aware of you have to remember that gel coat top layer in the process when they do work at factory they spray gel coat then fiberglass then they release from mold so the top was your first layer so now we / me /others when you try to buff /sand its like going backwards so watch out when sanding / buffing because you can sand / buff past and through the gel coat what happen to me was this work good for me i found there is a lot of metal flake so i do have some spots that went past the metal flake so just watch how far you go so not get more damage then you want i was lucky there were only a few spots that went down past the metal flake but over all i think turned out very well good luck take your time and fun hope this helps .....
hey rob last note.... i to watch lot of videos because i don't know everything but if you like watch BoatworksToday andy hes very good and his info seams to be spot on ..... hope this helps....

What is the result you get when using the buffer and rubbing compound by itself?

It helps. I have a ProCraft 1750V bass boat and it is rough feeling and dull looking. Seems like I have a lot of work to do.
