I left in early 2016 and moved to Canada. Met my wife there who is from Argentina. Decided to move back in 2023 as Toronto and Canada was becoming so expensive and the winters were brutal. After almost a year here I can say it is not the same country I left. The Europeans who we share cultural bonds and values with have all gone after Brexit and I honestly feel I am living in Mumbai in London. Very much starting to regret the decision for several reasons and looking to take a chance on moving to Latin America next year.

I was blessed to know my grandfather for 26 years of my life and he fought in a war for this country and the freedom of his fellow European brethren. It’s a massively underrated country. Very European, especially Buenos Aires. Great people. Amazing weather. Very high standard of living if you can earn in USD or £/€. I am from Denmark where the recent years have seen MASSIVE spike in BNP because of Novo Nordisk. We are so fucking rich at the moment. But. We have some of the same problems here. The quality of life is down. Totally down!

As someone that actually grew up in a third world country and moved to Europe a few years ago I can tell you with confidence that the UK and Europe are still comparatively pretty good places to live. They might not be perfect, they might not be as good as they once were but what you have is far more than a lot of people could ever have imagined in their wildest dreams.

But politics is not the fickle world of business, in which profits are valued over everything, our own integrity included. You might think in the short term that keeping your mouth shut and sucking up to those in power is the mature and experienced thing to do, but in the long term a healthy and stable society depends on people calling out bad behaviour and toxic personality, even when that does not maximise their power and influence.

Many politicians are forced to suppress their integrity due to the practical needs of the role. Some politicians may be chasing a soundbite, others may be calling it how they see it. Despite human foibles and our imperfect world there is a lot of genuine integrity in politics. Many if not most politicians are in it for more than just self-interest. With somebody as divisive as Trump, I do not doubt that many politicians know that calling him out can come from the heart AND gain votes. Particularly in Europe.

First off, painting the entirety of Europe with the same brush is nothing but silly, since there are so many different cultures and therefore political climates which make it impossible to make a massive generalization like you just did. Second, most European countries have re-elected since trump came out of office (or went in office), and in a lot cases there are different leaders who might not have said or had anything to do with American politics in the first place. Also, critiquing a leader who has had a shady past, has been sued for not letting black families rent from their property, has been accused of multiple cases of sexual assault, almost caused the democracy of America to crumble by not admitting his loss and could’ve led to massive political instability and clearly has a vendetta against “the others”, which in most cases refers to people of color from different countries, is in my books not a wrong thing to do. Letting problematic people be makes everyone culpable of their actions.

The 2010's in London before brexit were really fun! Affordable and full of interesting people all the time. I moved out after 9 years in 2018 and this year thinking of finishing my remote uk company as clients are struggling
