Dark Knight was an amazing theater experience, but Blade, in a '98 state of mind with "Confusion" by New Order blaring in the theater was a shock to say the least. Unforgettable experience.
@Menky I think you might have forgotten about the brillian "The Punisher" in 2004 which was the 2nd Adult themed Marvel movie before Deadpool in 2016 and then followed by Logan in 2017. All 4 of them have been some of Marvel's best cinematic work.
Marvel studios should bring back Wesley Snipes as blade. They can de-age him with CGI if needed. I also agree we need more rated R comic book films. Even swearing makes a big difference on film. Even with Disney owning marvel studios, they still said they would allow them to make films with an R rating.

Blade brought the badass to super heroes. I was blown back years later after finding out he was a comic book character. Instantly he became my favorite.
When Blade came out in 1998, I saw it in the theaters SIX times. I also bought the novelization. I got off a little an online bookstore called Amazon lol
I figured, another vampire movie. Somebody shoot me. I saw two years later on the monitors at the gym. I kept saying "don't watch it its a stupid vampire movie." But I was captivated. Went back and saw 1 then 2 uninterrupted, and finally 3. Watched the trilogy again last moth on Amazon. Couldn't believe its been that long ago.

Anyone paying attention who watched comic book films even just from the early 90's , should easily realize this is so true about Blade. I've introduced my sons to those movies. They never get old. Wesley Snipes is beyond amazing in the films. The fact that he choreographed the fight sequences in the first movie blows my mind. Reynolds was being honest. Apparently similar to Heath Ledger & Al Pacino (in Devil's Advocate), Snipes took his character a bit too seriously and his method acting to the next level, such that he was never being himself but was always acting as blade, even in meetings, during lunch time, in the car ride to the set etc. So most people who stared with Wesley Snipes never got to see him, only his character Blade. I admire that dedication to give us the viewers the best possible product, but it's super annoying if you have to work with someone like that.

Carla Smith Yep I remember when I saw him playing Simon Phoenix it left an impression on me as a kid. I loved the movie but his performance stood out to me and from then on he became one of my favorite actors and still is to this day regardless if his not doing big budget movies right now
Blade is iconic. Growing up with the three films and my parents not letting me watch them, because of the gore and one particular blood shower scene, so I had to watch them at a friends place.
I went to see Blade II in the theater with a friend while I was in 7th or 8th grade and back then ticket sellers wouldn't tell you you're too young or stuff like that. You could easily get in and see R-Rated stuff. Good times when people weren't such pussies.
Wesley IS Blade... but we gotta give Ali a chance... the only thing that I worry about him is his age... 45... kind of old already unless MCU only wants a single movie which is unlikely to happen...

every 90s kid that i know of watched the x-men cartoons back in the day, collecting marvel cards and reading comics. its not a bandwagon, i guess fans just waited for a good film and thats why blade was a success. it was good and i watched the trilogy. im just a little dissapointed that some of the stuff/characters are non existent/different in the current MCU lineup since some of the rights are sold to other companies.

I want to hedge that by saying that I'm a Jennifer Garner fan, and I appreciated the martial arts stars that appeared in the film, but the movie was just painful, especially as Terence Stamp had a rather lousy role that wasn't worthy of him.

Now if you had mentioned Dark City or (like the other commenter did) Ghost in the Shell, I'd have thrown you a bone, but you can't credibly cite instances of lone characters wearing leather in the odd movie from a decade previously, or a fashion show or underground magazine or whatever, and call it indicative of a broad phenomenon. That's not how mainstream pop culture works. It often takes one outlier to shift the currents, and Blade did it back then (globally!) simply by virtue of having arrived a year earlier. It defined a look that broad swathes of people outside of America (or, indeed, Japan) just hadn't seen before. When The Matrix came around a year later, for the mainstream to consider its style derivative of what Blade established was inevitable.

A big-screen adaptation of “Black Panther” has been in the works for a long time. In 1992, Wesley Snipes tried to play T'Challa, before he went to make the “Blade” trilogy.

The point is, just like Snipes, Jackman might have been physically different from the comic book character he was cast to portray, but he did a masterful job at making the character his own in the most impressive fashion possible and in that sense became Wolverine, exactly as Snipes did with Blade some 2 years earlier. The other cool factor about Snipes is that it took only one future film for him to create and solidify that idea so that before the sequels were to follow we were all in agreement that there could only be one Blade.

Blade was great the OG of Marvel. *Blade didn't get the publication and media attention like other marvel films due to limited technology and lack of social media. Meteor Man ( Robert Townsend), Steel ( Shaquille O'Neal), and Spawn (Micheal Jai White) all need credit and respect for great Superheroes in the 90s all 3 were African-Americans and successful. Keeping the interest and light for Superhero films alive. aswell.

agreed!..and I had heard about Snipes's ..behavior on set,way before i saw Blade:Trinity,but..once i saw it,I realized that Wesley was right to be pissed! He knew that the producers were adding all the other characters to HIS film to try to spin them off but that took the focus off of Blade! He was right to be angry that his trilogy was getting messed up with the 'trinity' storyline,and seeing that film vindicated what i thought of as Diva behavior. What happened with Blade:Trinity was an absolute clusterfuck by the studio and Wesley Snipes had every right to be such an asshole. Originally,the movie was about to take place 100 years in the future,where the vampires took over the world,enslaved mankind and managed to catch Blade,using him as a guinea pig,in order to replicate his daywalker ability.Then a human resistance group manages to free him and together they wage war on the vampires. The studio rejected this story concept,because it was too expensive to shoot(they had concept art that shows a Blade Runner style city and all kinds of cool sci-fi shit) and fired the original director/writer,who wrote the story with Snipes.Then they hired that hack David S.Goyer and let him write a new script with Dracula and the other vampire hunters,which they wanted to develop for future spin-off movies,that´s why they get so much screentime in the movie. Snipes was so pissed,he wanted to bail,but he had signed a contract,so he had to play in the movie. The movie shoot was a total clusterfuck,with the studio cutting the budget even more,Snipes and Goyer getting in arguments every day,to the point,Snipes stopped talking to Goyer and communicating only with written notes with him etc. etc.

I figured, another vampire movie. Somebody shoot me. I saw two years later on the monitors at the gym. I kept saying "don't watch it its a stupid vampire movie." But I was captivated. Went back and saw 1 then 2 uninterrupted, and finally 3. Watched the trilogy again last moth on Amazon. Couldn't believe its been that long ago.
The most brilliant part of Blade was that it wasn't an origin story. Which makes it easy for MCU to reintroduce the character.

Blade's cinematography was heavily influential on the Matrix, with its bullet time slo mo. That was just as revolutionary as CGI for making the movie look "cool".

Reynolds was being honest. Apparently similar to Heath Ledger & Al Pacino (in Devil's Advocate), Snipes took his character a bit too seriously and his method acting to the next level, such that he was never being himself but was always acting as blade, even in meetings, during lunch time, in the car ride to the set etc. So most people who stared with Wesley Snipes never got to see him, only his character Blade.
I admire that dedication to give us the viewers the best possible product, but it's super annoying if you have to work with someone like that.

Carla Smith Yep I remember when I saw him playing Simon Phoenix it left an impression on me as a kid. I loved the movie but his performance stood out to me and from then on he became one of my favorite actors and still is to this day regardless if his not doing big budget movies right now

every 90s kid that i know of watched the x-men cartoons back in the day, collecting marvel cards and reading comics. its not a bandwagon, i guess fans just waited for a good film and thats why blade was a success. it was good and i watched the trilogy. im just a little dissapointed that some of the stuff/characters are non existent/different in the current MCU lineup since some of the rights are sold to other companies.

@@phoenixforce6595 the same way that Blade was a far cry from the original character we get in the earlier source material on which the original blade movie was based. The point is, just like Snipes, Jackman might have been physically different from the comic book character he was cast to portray, but he did a masterful job at making the character his own in the most impressive fashion possible and in that sense became Wolverine, exactly as Snipes did with Blade some 2 years earlier. The other cool factor about Snipes is that it took only one future film for him to create and solidify that idea so that before the sequels were to follow we were all in agreement that there could only be one Blade.

agreed!..and I had heard about Snipes's ..behavior on set,way before i saw Blade:Trinity,but..once i saw it,I realized that Wesley was right to be pissed! He knew that the producers were adding all the other characters to HIS film to try to spin them off but that took the focus off of Blade! He was right to be angry that his trilogy was getting messed up with the 'trinity' storyline,and seeing that film vindicated what i thought of as Diva behavior. Not many black men had their own action movies and he saw his going down the drain. He wasnt wrong.

What happened with Blade:Trinity was an absolute clusterfuck by the studio and Wesley Snipes had every right to be such an asshole.
Originally,the movie was about to take place 100 years in the future,where the vampires took over the world,enslaved mankind and managed to catch Blade,using him as a guinea pig,in order to replicate his daywalker ability.Then a human resistance group manages to free him and together they wage war on the vampires.
The studio rejected this story concept,because it was too expensive to shoot(they had concept art that shows a Blade Runner style city and all kinds of cool sci-fi shit) and fired the original director/writer,who wrote the story with Snipes.Then they hired that hack David S.Goyer and let him write a new script with Dracula and the other vampire hunters,which they wanted to develop for future spin-off movies,that´s why they get so much screentime in the movie.
Snipes was so pissed,he wanted to bail,but he had signed a contract,so he had to play in the movie.
The movie shoot was a total clusterfuck,with the studio cutting the budget even more,Snipes and Goyer getting in arguments every day,to the point,Snipes stopped talking to Goyer and communicating only with written notes with him etc. etc.
