Were you around when the song was released? He certainly did get the credit he deserved. It was a Top 5 hit in America and in a lot of other countries, and he was named "best new vocalist of 1986." It was in heavy rotation on MTV and radio stations for some time. The Heartbeat album was certified Gold and he had some pretty legendary musicians play on the record (besides Dweezil -- Stevie Ray Vaughn, Ron Wood of the Stones, Willie Nelson, Bill Champlin of Chicago, and Dickie Betts to name a few).
He had one more hit, which was "Till I Loved You" with Barbra Streisand, peaking #25 on Hot 100. His second album "Let It Roll" failed to chart here in the States while was successful in Europe. So he was a one album wonder whilst a two hit wonder in the States. If anyone else who does not get enough credit, that would be Jennifer Rush, who would cover "Till I Loved You" in UK. Her only hit here in the States was "Flames Of Paradise" with Sir Elton John.

Guys, this is not cheesy. This is the 80's in a nutshell, this is cooler than a song that'll be released next year!!! The fact is that our generation became cheesy! And so cheesy and arrogant to the point that it forgot how much it could learn with the 80's folks.
I was a radio personality in 1986 when this came out. Here I am still rocking to it in 2020. I got in trouble with my program director for playing this too often.
Better this than some of the other cfrap that was out then. That said, I'm a radio guy, too, but I was on a progressive rock and then a country station through the '80s, so I missed this completely. Worth knowing....
I kept seeing this on repeat in Israel, along with Fairground (Simply Red), When You Come Undone (Duran Duran), and Didi (Khaled). Quite the assortment. I can't remember whether it was Israel One or Amman One/Two. I'm leaning toward Amman though. Did you program for Jordan TV?

This song has always fascinated me. He has this massive key change halfway through, goes back down to the original key, then goes back up again. It's something else.
Is it, though? I mean, yes, it’s a challenge, and he did it, but, just look at the bigger picture here…the day an actor makes an album, is always, the beginning of the end. Let’s just be real.
@@iamasmurf1122 I would agree, that the career move, was total crap. The song itself, not great, but there were worse songs, at the time. He can sing, to some degree, and this technically proves it, but does he have a “rock” voice, no. He should have done some broadway shit, instead. But actors are never known for their humility, or their ability to see the bigger picture, now are they…
He did put out some other songs, just need to search. Don also did a really lovely duet with Barbra Streisand, listen to the longer song. The shorter one causes you to lose out on a great finish.
He's got a great voice and a great actor also. Miami Vice is one of my all time shows that I loved watching back in the day when I lived in Florida at the time. And have the complete series on DVD as well. God Bless Don Johnson and your family.

gian81341 reason why it didn't though. Don Johnson was literally a million dollar man. Actor. Producer. Musician. @@WardenSpectreCommander Filmed the video? You said episode so do you mean Miami Vice?
@@cheril8891 yeah it was a Miami Vice episode they changed the name in the episode to East High. Our school is actually Miami Jackson Sr High. The school was rebuilt in the mid 2000s. The building in that episode is the football field now.
Los Santos rock radio!
I was so in love with Don Johnson in the 80's.. Posters everywhere in my bedroom 😅😅❤
Don Johnson was the 80s! The man could (and still can) do everything!
I love the 80's sound!
Yea baby, the 80s were the best!!!!
Perhaps gayer than the '70s.
I miss the sound and even some of the styles. Sure, maybe men could have toned down on pink and lavender, but other than that, I miss this era.
Good ole days!
Don Johnson was the damn man in the 80's!!He was just to damn cool as Sonny Crockett!!I've always been a fan of how hard and tough he was as a cop!His wardrobe on that show was badass to go with the attitude he had!!Still watch Miami Vice with my wife on a weekly basis!Way ahead of it's time back then!!
You can go from singing to acting, but never the other way around. You will always look like a big, dumb, dork. I didn’t make the rules.
In 2024, I tried a challenge, to watch this video in its' entirety once a day, every day, with no distractions or multitasking. I made it to mid-February. Now here in 2025, I begin this challenge again, determined to make it to Dec 31st 2025. I will update this comment daily so my progress can be tracked. Wish me luck and Happy 2025 to all, plus Happy whatever crazy year it is to all of you who are reading this comment.
Day 1 completed. (and this is not a joke or sarcasm, this song is awesome, this music video is epicly amazing, and I just realized I need to save it in case the power goes out or I lose internet connectivity for any reason. I may forget to update this comment thread after watching, that's possible, but I'm also logging the results on my FB timeline as well. Cheers.
In the 80’s....This Man was Everything;and he knew it
He was the 80s, period.
Guys, this is not cheesy. This is the 80's in a nutshell, this is cooler than a song that'll be released next year!!! The fact is that our generation became cheesy! And so cheesy and arrogant to the point that it forgot how much it could learn with the 80's folks.
Arrogant, yes.
Even in 2021 this song makes your heartbeat faster.
Absolutely!
Yup
Yes it does
Yes
Don can actually sing good but the video is cheesey.
This song is a guilty pleasure.
Sing it,....detective James "Sonny Crockett!"😎
👊
Gosh I’m missing the 80’s right about now! 😢
Don Johnson; You're born an actor and a rockstar! Keep it up! :-) :-)
Hes 70 now
VH1 I Love The 80's 1987, VH1 I Love The 80's Strikes Back 1987, and VH1 I Love The 80's 3D 1987.
Some people just have it all! WOW, I had no idea he could sing. ♥
This is an underrated song.
Nonsense, pal-any program director worth his salt knows there is no such thing as any of Donny’s music being played too often.
At least you played it, I NEVER heard this song on the oldies stations in Chicago.
Martin u better than the Djs playing stuff on Radio Stations now u hear the same one or two songs playlists are short limited knowledge don't matter what genre or era that Station plays weather it's a huge minor or whatever hit
I. Love. This. Song❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This song has always fascinated me. He has this massive key change halfway through, goes back down to the original key, then goes back up again. It's something else.
Totally! Love it!
something else allright lets just say its total crap
Key of E then goes to A.... No big deal here
Is it, though? I mean, yes, it’s a challenge, and he did it, but, just look at the bigger picture here…the day an actor makes an album, is always, the beginning of the end. Let’s just be real.
@@iamasmurf1122 I would agree, that the career move, was total crap. The song itself, not great, but there were worse songs, at the time. He can sing, to some degree, and this technically proves it, but does he have a “rock” voice, no. He should have done some broadway shit, instead. But actors are never known for their humility, or their ability to see the bigger picture, now are they…
He should've keep singing and made more music. This song is on 🔥!
He did put out some other songs, just need to search. Don also did a really lovely duet with Barbra Streisand, listen to the longer song. The shorter one causes you to lose out on a great finish.
check yourself into a hearing clinic get your ears checked
He was a singer who became an actor
Listen to 'tell it like it is' by him
Damn he can sing. I grew up in the 80s watched Miami Vice religiously and never heard this till today. Way to go Don.
Rock n Roll, Music of the Gods.
That’s 1 thing Rockstar got right! Those timeless classics. 🕺🤟
I can't get enough of DON JOHNSON, acting or singing!!
He's got a great voice and a great actor also. Miami Vice is one of my all time shows that I loved watching back in the day when I lived in Florida at the time. And have the complete series on DVD as well. God Bless Don Johnson and your family.
This is a cruisin' LS song, the memories
One the most Underrated actors ever.Forever Sonny
OMG! Don Johnson singing! Not that bad at all... Catchy song🤗
You're listening to Los Santos rock radio and that was heartbeat by Don Johnson
The bass line in this song keeps me up at night.
That's Mark Leonard. He also wrote music.
This song is just awesome.
DiegoSantos200 Hart beat
what a good looking man and he has a great sounding voice I love Don Johnson I wish they'd put Miami Vice back on with him and Philip Michael Thomas❤❤❤❤❤❤
The most understimated song of all time....what a shame... I love this song.!!🖤 I think this song deserved more success....in the 80s
gian81341 reason why it didn't though. Don Johnson was literally a million dollar man. Actor. Producer. Musician. Athlete. the 90's saw His comical and dead serious side in one when he launched Nash Bridges. Then his success as an athlete in power boating thanks to Miami Vice's fast boats seens launching his interest in the events. And him becoming a champion at the sport.
Yeah
Wdym underrated, it reached #5 on billboard hot 100
In the 80's Don Johnson was the coolest guy on the planet
