    Sean, the part regarding the head movement absolutely rocks! Every time I go to gym with my colleagues - and 100% of them are boxers - they go: "YOUR HEAD MOVEMENT SUCKS!!! IT SHOULD FLY AROUND THE GYM LIKE A FLIPPIN MISSILE ON COCAINE!" I'm so fed up with their bullshit so I feel like kicking the shit outta their tiny little thighs next time we spar.
    Big thanks for finally explaining the difference between head movement in boxing and muay thai! Cheers from Ukraine!

      Have them watch a head kick knock out compilation video. You will see a lot of head kicks come in from extreme head movements left or right. That exaggerated bob and weave in boxing will get you kicked or kneed in the face in MT. I had some boxing experience before MT and had to break that habit . A nice 25% power head kick on a slip or bob leaves a lasting impression when sparing .

    • @StarskyUA
      @StarskyUA 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@scottrichardson1014 yes, I agree! Boxing was my first martial art before MT and I experienced the same situation later in a MT sparring. Slamming your own head into someone's shin changes quite a lot, that's for sure!

    This video is more important than the "how to videos" . Great video. I've seen more people make mistakes than do it correctly and if you keep practicing incorrectly its becomes difficult to unlearn those mistakes later. Again, great video.

      No it doesn't, you're wrong. Proper technique comes with developed coordination and strength. The more a student practices, the closer they'll get to efficient technique. Expecting textbook movements from beginners is insane and unproductive.

    • @nitina8564
      @nitina8564 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@robertpaulsin6109 you seem to have miss read what i was trying to say. If someone is practicing anything in an incorrect manner not knowing what is it they are doing wrong will become their second nature and then it becomes difficult to unlearn those things. Not impossible but very difficult for sure.

    I’ve been Kickboxing for about 4 years, and am a brown belt in K1 (yes, we grade!) and this still a super helpful video! We forget the importance of shadow boxing, and the importance of doing it correctly. Reality is, this is as close to sparring as you’re gonna get and is better than a heavy bag for working many techniques....so thanks for great reminders. I’d say number 4 is the most important. If you stand still you get hit. Simples. Anyone can move, so do it!

    7 and 8 really hit home for me. Only about 2 months in and all the more seasoned students are always telling me to relax and breathe. I totally understand it logically but emotionally I'm like "You're trying to punch me in the face, it's hard to relax!"
    That and so much doesn't feel natural yet, so I feel like I have to focus so hard mentally that it's easy to tense up and not breathe right.
