Yes and no. It's a case that not one size fits all. I watched the legendary Ike Quartey knock out a fighter ringside from a jab, and trained with fighters who could put people down with one. In pro boxing, when you're getting messed up with powerful jabs (where the fighter gets in some hip rotation) that breaks you down over 10 / 12 rounds. The slap jab worked for Holmes, but for some other dudes you'll just be able to walk through their jabs if there's nothing on it. Swings and roundabouts. Anyway, great content and delivery style you got a sub 👍

@@Hadrada. Maybe the greatest Brit of all time Wilde was. Great jab and counter puncher! Wise words - but I think the jab is also like your stance, it's good to give your opponent different looks. Different levels. Anyway, thanks for reminding me of 'The Mighty Atom' - has there been a better knick name?

Regardless of the mechanics of the jab, the goal for every punch should be to explode/lock upon contact, as in keeping the arm and entire body loose until you reach the target.
But yeah, there are many ways and angles to throw the jab, depending on what you are intending to do when entering the opponents line.

WOOOOOW!!!! First time coming across this video!!! Just after my sparring earlier (i’m 52, the pro was 30), i saw a kid pushing his jab!!!! i told the kid the SAME thing this man mentions!!!!
The jab is a slap, like a whip!!!! Better yet, like when we were kids popping our bathroom towels at each other!!!! THEN i told him as he gets better, he’d incorporate a pole like jab!!!! A stick/pole, imagine it going straight with power!!!! Sometimes a whip, then power!!!!

This video is really in depth in knowledge of boxing , many modern trainer or PT when they saw me use this jab they consider as wrong technique or your hand is too low etc. For me this technique is useful in middle of the fight when we can make a litter bit confuse to our opponent, mixing different type of jab

Use the jab to blind the opponent and knock their head back setting up for the cross.
If you watch prime mike tyson he didn’t throw his jab like a fencer he threw it with his body square with his opponent, the disadvantage being how close your body is to what is probably their backhand, the advantage being that you can rotate and properly transfer weight and engage your reaching muscles; making the jab a punch which can actually do damage and still set up other punches. I think if you were throwing thousands of jabs that would be the way to do it if long term health is a priority.

I find the jab different personally. I agree with the whipping motion, but I think every weapon you have as an arsenal should all have a lethal side to them. With the jab I find most people underestimate it. With me being southpaw and right handed that jab is my favourite weapon, I can slam those in, daze my opponent and follow up with other strong blows.

You have to change positions/head slots on every punch and defensive movement. Keeping your head off the line for defensive and offensive purposes simtanously. Still good video.

I went from boxing to kickboxing. I just got the basics down on boxing. I can move my feet trowing a combo maybe catch some shots and pull counter but never went all the way into the science but still my jab is way better then most of my kickboks mates. I can hang with kickboxers who have fought . But my jab and frame keeps them at bay if can touch good with jab i trow the 1-2 behind. But sometimes i their are other boxers and their jab is just as good as me and if he is as big as me i usually win the jan battle with trowing jabs that we both land but mine will get stiffer every time i land and usually they give the battle up but if someone is like me i can not establish the jab. Any advices?

I tend to watch these sorts of vids for self defence reasons, rather than actual competition, hence my question.
