Neat old Machine from decades ago.Most equipment people under the age of 50 wont even have heard of a Lorain Excavator,but here is one that is still intact.Big Excavator,still by today's standards.
That is a long barreled thing. I ran an OLD Lorain dragline with a pony motor start Cat 4-banger, looked about D-4 size doing hook and concrete bucket work on a discharge riser one winter. Old manual machine that did a good job. Thanks, Pal! That was a god one!
That's a L48H alright. Very good machine in it's day. If memory serves me right, Fownes Construction out of North Vancouver had two of them. In B.C. they were sold and serviced by Chapman Industries.
Pretty sure I know this machine personally 😅 It's the first excavator that I ever ran 35 years ago loading rock out of the Banberton Quary. When the owner bought it, it was the biggest excavator on the island. It does still run but the owner passed away years ago.
it's a treasure hunt with a reward each time.The reward is to be able to stand beside these things,seeing what someone else did 40 or more years ago,and get an appreciation for how it used to be.
skadill me and my dad spent alot of time looking at old tractors and other equipment he always told me that you could find more in the winter after the leaves had fallen off. Looking forward to your next video.
I remember spending a short time on one of those, 250 Cummins roaring away...you can lump them in with Hoptos.... Hein Werners ect....when men were men and the sheep were afraid !! ☻
That old beast been sleeping for quite some time. Not sure how fast moss grows there but I am guessing way over twenty years since it last roared?, maybe quite a bit more?
Ditto what Dun Truckin said Hydra. - Unit - proclain - Long levers No Pilot --- I'm 54. I remember begging to run one - My dad and uncles arms were as big as my leg from running drag lines - those guys are true Men .
Big Unit!. A mate of mine has a hitachi of similar age but maybe bigger. His is a 65 ton machine with twin engines . When we wanted to do the track rollers we couldn't lift it so he bought a slightly smaller one to pick each corner up....
@@skadill I think so.It's the biggest one outside of a mine site I've ever seen . One of the engines is out at the moment getting rings and valves done.
How hard would you have to search to find one of these beasts this day and age? Us gearheads gotta have something to work on y'know. Would love to be able to restore something like this one day to operating order.
@skadill hey Todd, how are you doing these days? changed channel names, used to go by caterpillar 941b but just had a lot of out dated content. anywho, if ya ever get out the Alberta way let me know, I have several pieces of this old stuff still running, and am working on bringing a p10 pacific back to life as well. I have a couple videos on my channel of the older stuff I've got if ya are interested and will be trying to put more up as I get the opportunity to do so, cheers!

@@skadill I've noticed that a ton of the old channel guys have just up and disappeared, to bad cause lots of them were very smart and knowledgeable guys. what did ya ever figure out with your motor in your Camaro?
Man how technology changed! A guy worked for his wages then. Now its all in the wrist and a flick of a button with your thumb! Oh with AC and jamin to some tunes!

Still in shop for warranty,pissed off,season is done now,Bought another race car thoug,it will run this friday night.No one stops me.
