  • I wanted to provide better information about the Mackie PROFX8 as TH-cam is full of unboxing videos and videos showing the mixer but actually not using. I also talk about the USB noise issue, recording via USB and provide some audio recording samples as well using the mixer.

    I have had this mixer for a couple of years and love it.

    @Banzai, thank you for doing this. I too searched for info on this particular Mackie PRO and found tons of unboxing and guys with set ups that did not relate to their TH-cam titles.
    Some of these comments are envy comments LOL's and so fourth. Nothing is perfect but you did what no one is doing breaking the mixer down to where some one can use it.
    Thanks !

    Those LEDs aren't mute, they are channel overload warning lights.

    I have recently started recording music (drums, vocals, guitar, keys, etc.) with my ProFX8 using mostly Audacity and Cakewalk. I only noticed the hissing sound when I started using the USB connection and CODEC in Audacity. It isn't SUPER loud but it does cause the tracks to be basically unusable. I started experimenting with the USB out to reduce annoying wiring and because I thought it'd be easier and have better quality. I don't know if this is the reason but I was previously recording via the RCA outs to 3.5 on laptop VS the USB out from back of board to USB in laptop. Everything I've read states that USB SHOULD be better and record at a higher quality than RCA, but I feel the using the 'Tape Out' connections had a better sound. Maybe because the hiss was't present. I am admittedly new to recording and I may be way off base with this but give that a shot.

    To use the build in FX processor, you need to slide FX RTN up to mix in the effects settings and make sure the FX Master knob is preferably at U level + use the FX button on each channel to mix them in.
    MON SEND is not really an AUX, that'd be your Tape Out. You can hookup monitor speakers (mono mix). Signal on MON SEND is mixed using the Mon knobs per channel and overall MON slider. Additional you can mix in the FX TO MON as well seperatly.

    The reason why your FX and your EQ are not working, is because those put out to the mains, I heard you say that you are not using your mains which is a clear reason why. Thank you

    Make sure your FX return slider and your FX master knob are both up (as well as on the channel itself, too). I haven't hooked up USB to verify this yet, but I see now reason why USB would come before FX send.

  • @twobrokenarrows
    @twobrokenarrows ปีที่แล้ว

    You mentioned that the graphic EQ didn't do anything. You mentioned that you have it hooked up USB but the 7-band graphic equalizer adjusts the main mix output. It affects the line-level outputs, but not the tape outputs, headphones, or the USB
    output. If you want it to adjust the sound through the mixer you might try using a XLR to USB instead of the USB that goes from the back of the mixer to the computer. I skimmed the manual but it wasn't clear you could use the mixer like this but I can't see another option. I'm going to give this a try.

    i have the fx8 and i came to you for info and i guess ill share info with you the fx do work you need to unmute them the button is in that same area where the fx select knob is located if the light is red its muted and down below you;ll find the fx knob in yellow set that to 12oclock then below that the slide knob gives you the limit you want and you should be able to use that feature as for the eq it really does make a huge difference you have to activate it with the 2 push buttons in that box slot main max and eq in should be in the up position and you'll get eq i hope i helped if so please let me know thanks man

    now you have it for line ( guitar etc ., ) you need to press the line\mic button on channal 1 or us another channal..

    While speaking "firmly" into your mic , keep turning up the "gain" knob up until the "clip LED" ... (located down beside the mute button) starts blinking in response to your voice. Once you reach that level , turn down the gain knob just a little until the blinking stops.
    Question : Why do you have a 1/4" jack plugged into the channel 2 slot ???

      lol, 1/4 to 3.5mm, my thoughts as well

    • @ShaneHall

      Good tip on the use of clip detection to set a standard for vocal mic. Everyone should know this to exploit whatever mic they have on hand, especially since all mics aren't created equal as most of us know. I think it's also a good idea to set your fader on that channel to Unity; it's just good practice. Here are my thoughts regarding the the adapter on channel 2: My electronic drum module comes with a 3.5 mm output, so in order to route the signal, one does what one must. I use a 3.5 to 1/4" for some small devices as well, such as a an ipod. One thing about this board I don't care for is the inputs being on the top surface of the unit. It would have been better to put them in the back and get them all out of the way. Also, it would be cool to find a small send snake for this in some cases.

    Hey dude!! good video but if your fx don´t work is probably because you´re not using them right... try putting the volume fx knob (orange) up and use delay effect to hear a diference!! Or see if is on MUTE!! Hope this works for you!!

      What I am having problems though is that the sounds (music, youtube videos) don´t come out through the USb port except when I use my DAW for recording! I solved it using RCA connection!! Maybe you can help me with that!!

    this is not a review, this is just your thoughts on how you understand so far from the mixer lols

    • @banzaibeatanimepodcast1389
      @banzaibeatanimepodcast1389  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This wasn't meant to be a review I made the video to help give a bit more information about the product because at the time I had just purchased it and I used TH-cam a lot to try and figure out what to buy and all I kept finding was dumb unboxing videos or other nonsense but nothing really about what someone would be looking for in a mixer.
      Honestly I've had this thing 2 years now and I should probably do a review it has pros and cons.
      Thanks for taking the time to respond.

    I think it's the way you are using it and the set up you have. A lot of these things you say don't work, work for me but it's a different set up than yours and I think that is why you are having issues

  • @richardp1962
    @richardp1962 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have the profx8v2. In general OK but recording level thru the USB is horrible. With all settings set to what Mackie suggests and calls 'Unity' gain, 1/4 inch registers in DAW at -40db and Shure SM57 mic via XLK registers at -30db. To get a basic audio thru to your DAW, you have to set all faders to MAX (with the hissing that comes along with it). Unacceptable if you ask me.

    Did you download the manual? You have some confusion still about things that are presented pretty clearly in the manual. You should have the spec sheets as well since they tell you what you have exactly. Go to mackie.com/products/profxv2-series and scroll all the way down for the downloads.

    • @IsegriDerWolf

      +Dylan Gerstley Your computer should recognize the mixer as a usb audiodevice right away. if you want to record without any delay you should get asio 4 all.

      +Victoria Longoria (Official) Whenever I record directly into Ableton I would get static and noise, but I found that when using Audacity it's perfectly clear. Worth a try, and it's free.
