    It's a great little mixer. I bought one as an add-on to my Yamaha StagePas 300 PA. That gives me an extra 4 mic/guitar inputs, plus another 4 keyboard, DI, drum machine, and other audio inputs. More than enough for an open mic night.

    I tried the Mix12FX but it didn't work straight out of the box. Then I read that overheating is a problem w/ this particular mixer. Though I was hesitant, I tried the Harbinger LV12 mixer and so far (going on 2 months now) it's impressed me. It has many of the same features as the Mix12FX, except it some noticeable additional features that includes a power switch, a monitor out, eq & gain even on the stereo inputs, XLR main outputs, separate volume control for Control Room outs, and a Bluetooth receiver, a dedicated guitar input, and selectable pad and HPF switch for inputs 1-4. This mixer seems to be well thought out. Since I couldn't find a genuine demo/review video, I made one myself that was recorded real time of the first time I used it. So, it's pretty down to earth and not a marketing tactic. I'm not compensated in anyway by sharing my experience: th-cam.com/video/9r5wVsP0zWk/w-d-xo.html

    Awesome review! At 5:30 you mention you need a 1/4" to XLR cable for the speakers. If my speakers can take 1/4" OR XLR cable as input, can I just use a purely 1/4" cable from the mixer to the speaker? Or is it better quality if I use 1/4" to XLR cable?

    • @stevekonbass
      @stevekonbass  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      What are you trying to do Tony? How are you trying to apply the mixer? Not sure why you would want to go from the mixer to the stack. For typical use in a live performance situation, you'd mic your Marshall stack (or use a DI out if your amp has one) and that mic would be plugged into the mixer. Your Marshall is your "backline", meaning your Marshall is behind you on stage. All the instruments and vocals are plugged into the mixer and mixed and sent to the PA speakers. The PA speakers are your "frontline" and are at the front of the stage aimed at the audience. Hope that helps.

    Excellent in depth review and guide. However, since my knowledge in this area is minimal, could you please guide me where should a subwoofer be connected on the mixer? (I have my speakers both connected to the main out, so they are already reserved) I can get my hands on all the necessary cables no problem, but I can't seem to figure out where to connect it on the mixer. Would appreciate immensely for your answer.

    • @stevekonbass
      @stevekonbass  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sure Gagan... go from a main output of the board into the sub input, and then go from the output of the sub into one of your top mains. I did a video on a Behringer Sub where I show how to hook it up. It's best to watch the whole video if you're new to doing sound: th-cam.com/video/RHri4E62Rgo/w-d-xo.html

      @DJgagzu 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stevekonbass Great cheers! However, what if the tops cant be connected through the subwoofer. Is this the only way to connect a sub? What my question means is can the tops and sub be connected straight to the mackie 12 board simultaneously? I'd like to connect a sub which doesnt have the possibility to connect tops from it.

    • @stevekonbass
      @stevekonbass  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could plug the sub into one of the main outputs on the board, and use the other main output to connect a top and then daisy chain the one top to the other. That would work, but the proper way is the first way I told you.

      @@stevekonbass Splendid! Thanks Steve, one last question though, what does daisy chain mean?

    • @stevekonbass

    Thanks for the thorough review! Is there a way to mix IEMs without having to use your FX send as your AUX out? Sucks to lose FX just so that you can have IEMs.

    • @stevekonbass
      @stevekonbass  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not that I know of. This is a bottom tier basic board. I'd suggest going up a couple of levels and get a board with multiple monitor outs, especially if the whole band needs/wants their own mix for monitors. A lot of boards skimp on the monitor/aux outs so you'd have to look around. If I remember right, there was a Behringer that one of my bands used and the drummer had his own out for his IEMs and myself and guitarist each had our own out too.

      You'll have to run a line out of your main speakers to the monitor, or you can try using the control outs, but either way there won't be a separate monitor mix. Exactly what's coming out of the mains will be coming out of the monitors.

    Hi steve , great video .. so I’m using this mixer with a dynamic mic for vocals and I think I’ve been using it wrong .. I have the gain turned down to like the 9 o’clock mark and then have the volume turned up .. I could never figure out how to properly set the gain on this mixer bc there was no solo button to push while you spoke into the mic and the directions were super vague .. I do notice that when I sing sometimes that I feel like I have to sing hard to get it to project properly.. do you think raising my gain and lowering the volume will help or is basically the same thing .

    • @stevekonbass
      @stevekonbass  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Try turning the gain up until it clips and then back it off a little. Then push up the fader to where you need it. If you're singing live it's also about mic technique. If you're really pushing at a point in a song where your volume increases just back off the mic a little. Then, if you're singing soft you might have to get up on the mic more.

    • @Mj-bg2uj

      @@stevekonbass thanks so much for reply .. I went back over my pedal chain last night and the first in my chain is tc helicon play acoustic.. for some reason the I had the mic gain turned way down so I raised it until the clipping light came on .. then went and messed with the mixer and made some adjustments and it feels like a huge difference.. the problem I was having was that I had to be right up on the mic in order for it to pic up my vocals .. if I backed away more than an inch or two it was like I wasn’t singing .. after turning up the gain it made a huge difference.. thanks again

  • @DonOG83

    How would you recommend running stage monitors? Daisy chain through the Fx out? If so, how does that affect the on board fx for each channel. Will the chosen fx still be heard through the mains If running monitors from the FX send?

    • @stevekonbass
      @stevekonbass  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To be honest with you, I'd invest in a better board that has monitor outs. When I used this live for a duo I was doing I'd just daisy chain the monitors off of the mains and keep it low. We'd get a true representation of what was coming out the front and it was good enough to hear our vocals.

      I heard of issues with it and I'm not a fan of the power supply, but didn't have issues myself. This would be best for maybe a duo, or as a backup for your main board. It doesn't have separate monitor sends or mutes.

      I think you might be better off doing RCA to 1/4" into an interface, RCA to USB exists as well but I'm not sure how well it would work. You could also use a standard RCA to 1/8" and then record onto a mobile device then transfer that to your PC later

  • @markgalloway7096

    Hello, I noticed you went from a 1/4" stereo to xlr to plug into speaker. Wouldn't it be better to go from 1/4" mono to xlr for each channel? Or, would it work ok either way? Just curious. I just bought this board and am using it on the gig this week. I got a 1/4" mono to xlr adaptor for each main.

    • @stevekonbass
      @stevekonbass  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm... I think you're question is referring to TS vs TRS? TRS supposedly gets less noise over longer runs. As long as you're using "Speaker Cables" you're good.

      @@stevekonbass Thanks for the quick reply. I've always thought of the two rings on a 1/4" plug as stereo. I learned something new today. TRS is likely quieter. I'll give that a try. Thanks again.

    Hey Steve, just bought one and my biggest stress was setting the gain but I see you covered that at 8:30 of the vid. Am I right? I'm totally new to operating a mixer but felt the need to pick it up as I'm running this mixer into a looper pedal and then out to my speaker/amp.
    What I dont get about mixers is that if I'm adjusting my high/mid/low on the mixing board how does that correspond to what I have those set on the actual amp? Match the two? Thanks a ton.

    • @stevekonbass
      @stevekonbass  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep. Set the gain on each channel and make sure it doesn't clip. To answer your 2nd question... in a gig situation you'd have your amp on stage behind you and you'd set it up to your liking. From there you'd mic the amp and that would go to the mixer of the PA and the EQ there would be adjusted so it sounds good in the overall mix with all the other instruments.

    • @scourneene
      @scourneene ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stevekonbass Thanks for answering back. That all makes sense. The only issue I'm having is that I don't have a speaker or amp unit able to plug both the left and the right main (running out of the mixer) into. So I'm running a mic and my bass through the mixer then out the left main to my amp with a patch cord, both ends a 1/4 inch. Therefore I need to turn the pan on both all the way to left (if that makes sense) other wise the mixer is sending out to a Right main that I can't utilize with my bass amp anyhow. It's doesnt sound bad, my amp has one 15 inch and four eight inch speakers to distribute through. I don't have the extra coin to get a new amp or speaker for the sake of properly running both left and right mains out of the mixer. If you got any further insights to improve this set up I described great otherwise thanks dude.

    I just bought this mixer but i’m not sure how to use it with my Blue Hummingbird (I just got into the whole microphone/mixer stuff). I connected the hummingbird, & the PAN and signal light turns on but turn off a second later. the only lights that stay on are the power & phantom power. what would you recommend that I do?

    • @stevekonbass
      @stevekonbass  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe the Hummingbird needs phantom power, so use inputs 1, 2, 3, or 4 and push the phantom power button. That light isn't for PAN, it's an over the limit light or clip light. You don't want that to stay red. It means your signal is too hot if it flashes or stays red. Lower the gain for that channel if it's in the red. The other light sig/ol is for the effects. You don't want that light to stay on either.

      The ProFX12 is better than the Mix12FX. The Mix12FX is okay if you're doing a solo gig or a duo gig. I did a duo gig the other day and used the Mix12FX, it was fine. But, it doesn't have the eq across every channel and doesn't have mute buttons. I got it for $150 with the case, which I thought was a good deal. I'll use it for duo gigs and bring it as a back-up board for my bands gigs.

      I assume my unit is either Faulty or it doesn't like my mains, I'm probably going to return it. Pretty sad though, I've always seemed to have troubles buying mixers :( my previous 2 behringer mixers blew/ stopped working. The first one was my fault because I made a feedback loop and had the gains maxed out (blew up my brain too xD) and the other one just stopped working. I switched to Mackie as many people said they were far better and more reliable but now I have this issue :(

    • @stevekonbass
      @stevekonbass  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've read where people complain about the power supply on this one. To cut cost they don't even give you a power button. Behringer always seemed to have problems. The Mackie stuff for the most part are good workhorses . The band I played with for the last 5 years used Mackie gear for between 600 and 650 gigs and there was never a problem. The gear got abused pretty good too with rain, hot weather, and load ins/outs. There are better sounding boards and speakers but they cost a lot more. Check out the Pro12. Costs a little more but it's a workhorse. I did a video on it: th-cam.com/video/P_aMjK0sSoI/w-d-xo.html

      Personally, I'd skip using the Mackie mixer if you're recording and just go from the Focusrite to your computer. I don't think it's necessary. If you wanted to experiment though, you can plug your guitar into the mixer and just run a cable from one of the main outs to the Focusrite.
