The problem I have with the new version of Skyrim is that when I don’t want to use a mod before going back to the game it always wants me to reload the mod very annoying
Got so fed up with the updates breaking my SKSE game that I built a pc specifically for Skyrim that will never be connected to the internet. Got all my mods to a point where I’m happy with the visuals & will stick with version 1.6.640.
Hahaha this is sad and hilarious. The dedication. I've thought of this but I never imagined someone would do it, props to you. Fuckin staring daggers at Bethesda though.
I've downgraded to 1.5.97 and I doubt I'll ever update it again.. if I even continue playing Skyrim at all, this is all just ridiculous and quite frankly not worthy...

Modded the game a couple of months ago, had to stop playing because of school, Came back to the game only to find nothing working. I Hate Bethesda.
Players dont need bug fixes, unofficial patch fixes everything already
they want you to stop playing Skyrim and hopefully buy some of their other shit games.

The new fixes list, as I read it:
• controller fixes for consoles that mean nothing to me
• various creation club fixes that mean nothing to me
• fixes for PS5 creation club issues that mean nothing to me
• fixes for Xbox creation club issues that mean nothing to me
• GoG version: actually good and important fixes especially re: saves
• several trivial fixes
A whole lot of "fixes" for parts of the software that doesn't affect my play on GoG 1.6.659 at all.
Glad I don't have to worry about Steam's auto updates any more. My install stays as I left it: WORKING.
You can deactivate autoupdate for your game thou? Check the options for the game.
Get the Gog version, also you can get an additional mod to rollback to any previous versions depending your modlist you want use in you playtrough.
Play offline if you want, no club, feel free !
Bethesda literally never fix anything, they just keep ruining mods deliberately...
these updates believe it or not are more malicious than you might realize, they are typically released to constantly F with the 3rd party mod developers so people are more likely to get fed up with the amount of A: waiting for mod updating to catch up and B: having to fix/update said mods in hopes people just cave and go to the creation club which somehow always seems to be updated with the update.....odd....
@@DeathSithe92 Sure, but i play TES since Morrowind, modded the hell out of oldrim and all other versions. Now mostly if i return to my ... home, i play the Gog version. So no online requirements, fix version, and i can set-up different mod-list for different versions if i want so. I only will install a new version once the needed mods have been updated, same for the skse versions.

They see how much success Skyrim has thanks to mods and they try to monetize the fuck out of mods.
I've yet to encounter a single mod good enough to be worth moving on from 1.5.97.
All the major mods like Skywind, Skyblivion, Beyond Skyrim are all using older stable versions too.
I know for a fact that over at odyssey of the dragonborn we are still using the old CK, as they somehow managed to brick the old CK with the new updates too.

I can’t get my game to work either, it crashes on the BGS logo when I try to use the Steam Console to downgrade & the unofficial downgrade patcher. Thankfully I have a 1.5.97 version from fall that I had auto updates disabled & set the appid to read only. Now I just gotta pray I never have to validate local files
@@Angelfyre.You may need "Backported Extended ESL Support" mod. They raised the file size for ESL mods in a recent update, and some newer mod take advantage of that. Trying to load those mods without that ESL support will cause an immediate crash.
Hi, the first week after the update in December I had a lot of trial and error to get my game back to running. (1.59.7) I finally found the solution, but since then CK gives me still some headache.
So I downloaded Skyrim SE again (Have stored it as Backup-Files since then) and downgraded it with BOB (Best of both) downgrade patcher.
Then I installed BEES (Backported Extended ESL Support) with some other cucial mods, got the newest SKSE and USSEP. For BEES has to load in starting a game!, I now only can start Skyrim with MO Modorganizer or Vortex, not directly from SKSE in Skyrim Main Folder. Little by little I then installed all my other mods and tested, if Skyrim still is starting and running. This took a while, but it worked. Hope you find this Info useful.
To prevent your game from further updates, go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps and set appmanifest_489830 in Properties to "Read only".
Also go into your Steam library, select Skyrim and therfor its properties and set Updates to only executed, when next time starting via Steam. Needless to say, you should then never start Skyrim via Steam again. The update is then shown as "pending". In my case forever. :)
Why doesn't beh stick with fixing that shatfield. Instead of going back to games that are quite literally 10+ years old. Games this is old should never be touched by adding useless updates.
After the last update I made the decision to revert to 1.6.640. It was a huge pain to rollback all of those DLL related mods, especially since some 1.6.640 versions of those mods are no longer readily available, but I got everything working fine. I should be able to avoid any future headaches with new updates by just refusing to get the update (or overwriting the files again).
How? I tried that but most mods i use have no support for 1.6.640
@@danielkjm I reverted back to 1.6.640 and was basically able to rebuild my full mod list again with pretty much all of the mods working. You might want to check in old files for some mods as that's what I had to do to find the correct versions.

I'd love a dedicated video tutorial! I gave up entirely on trying to mod Skyrim on my Steam Deck after trying for about eight hours. Bad timing I guess, as I only found out afterwards that they'd recently updated the game and that it had caused all sorts of problems.

To push people to buy Starfield and inflate the number of players. I refuse to buy that game. So i went back to Modded Fallout 4 and New Vegas.
This shit all started when they released Creations store. Their store was buggy so they needed to fix it but broke some other things, so now they try to fix the things they broke but aren't good enough to fix shit without breaking other stuff.

when the last update happened, I couldn't even use any of the creations with mods because after a minute of gameplay it would become corrupted and becoming unplayable, so I just had to not use any of the creations but since this update that has no longer been an issue, but I can't use any of the address library mods like Dynamic Animation Replacer etc but it's not that big of a deal in my opinion

PS. This is much needed as mods break, including Backported Extended ESL Support (BEES), which has a number of gamers reporting CTDs.
I am done with Bethesda's updates. Too many great mods broken and whose authors have moved on. The changes which Bethesda are making are just not worth it. If they really want to improve the game, incorporate the engine fixes, the USSEP, the address lib, the SKSE... and the best features of the most popular mods no longer supported by their authors. The heavy lifting has already been done by the mod authors.

I won't have any trouble with updates, i migrated to GOG version so i don't have to use downgrader because GOG gives you option to downgrade or upgrade game as you please unlike steam. All i need to get inspired and mod the game again.
I just use the offline installer.

Bethesda are stuck in a rut and have been for the last nine years or so. They need to stop tinkering with Skyrim and start creating new TES games again.
As someone who started their TES journey back when Arena was first released, the wait for the next TES game has been way too long IMO. I was finished with Skyrim back in 2015! Played it to death.
even with updates and mods i still find myself going back to the older elder scrolls games, just replayed oblivion now binging daggerfall. it still boggles my mind how much the game has been watered down over the years, you would think they would be adding stuff not removing it. we use to have spellmaking, there was a climbing skill, speed use to count towards attacking, levitation was possible, stores randomly generate wares and was not preset. it is possible to fail a quest entirely including the main quest, quests would random generate the npc you got it from would not have that same one in another run, it was possible to lose your bounty because if your reputation increases enough guards will leave you alone. its also possible vise versa if you have a bad rep npcs wont talk to you, a loan could be taken out of the bank, nudity was present and widespread, you could join different factions such as kynareth or julianos, there are soo many more great ideas they just abandoned i cant even scratch the surface..
This is why I'm still on 1.5.9

For me it's going to be quite a while before I get back to .97. The best of both worlds still hasn't been updated. And from the looks of it, it wont be anytime soon.
@@angelphoenix7784 You don't need it. Read the comments on the downgrade mod. Its a full on tutorial on how to downgrade without it, and you'll also have ready to go files in case you need to fix broken game files. Basically drag and drop

.Net Script Framework and No Grass in Objects are not the only mods that 1.6.640 doesn't support. Some additional mods not supported on the 1.6+ versions of Skyrim include Combat Pathing Revolution and any mod made by maxsu. Sure his awesome SCAR mod is patched for AE by someone else, but a lot of his other mods are not. That said, if someone could let me know what the advantages are of using 1.6.640 over 1.5.97, besides the more widespread mod support, I would really appreciate it.
How do you know what mods support 1.6.640? I lot of them dont say what old version supports it.
@@danielkjm I either use the list that Apoqsi linked in the video description or I just look on the mod description and guess. It is true that a majority of mods these days support 1.6.640 version of Skyrim, but the mods I listed in my original comment alone are making me hesitant to switch from 1.5.97 to 1.6.640. It also helps that some of the mods made with 1.6.640 in mind have been backported to 1.5.97, like the SimonMagus mod Stormcrown.

whew im glad i listened to all the youtubers and turned off auto update in steam, although my cbbe bodyslide in race menu is still broken after the update in January, im glad nothing else got broken because i took the necessary precautions

Trying to use Achievement Enabler by xShadowmanx on my PC. I downloaded it through Vortex and it is checked and enabled but every time I go to load a save (I’ve tried multiple saves all non modded/haven’t saved with any mods yet) it still shows the achievements disabled box. As this video was posted 7 days ago I’d imagine it is working and I must be doing something wrong? I’m playing AE newest update on PC through the Xbox app. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Awesome channel by the way keep up the great work!
You need SKSE64 or the DLL loader, as stated on the mod page, for it to work. SKSE64 obviously doesn’t work with the Xbox/Microsoft version, but I believe the DLL loader might? As always, be sure to follow the instructions on that page when installing.
What mod collection are you using?
Bethesda screwed themselves over with the creation club paid mod content. Since they’re implementing PAID MODS, they now have no choice but to go in and fix what ever bugs or issues show up with said paid mods, and the creation store. So now the updates will never stop, downgrading is the only option for modders.
Bethesda not fixing the mods just read what they say ,you installing mods on your own responsibility if it breaks your game they have nothing to do with it. So when the mod isnt compatible with another mod and breaks your game you just throw out your money in the garbagecan.
Well, all that isn't persuading me to update from 1.5.97 at all, lol.

Racemenu has crippled game play for 1.6.1170. How do I get around this without downgrading? I updated the latest version and the mod author Expired76, still hasn't fixed his plugins for 1.6.1170. Help!!

did you checked that the body map mod was correctly installed? sometime when there is an update bodysilde work but does not show any body because of that

What mod is that combat mod in your video man? I like how the first person combat looks.
If Bethesda wanted to stay in player's good graces, they would make an Official Patch Mod, downloadable from the Bethesda website, when at all possible.
I'm sure there are changes that require a new version, such as the Anniversary Edition and Creations release, however many of these updates had been addressed by mods prior to Bethesda making an official fix.
Thank you for pointing out to me why they are still releasing new updates and why that is actually making sense for some of the players on some of the platforms.
I've updated my SKSE to 2.2.6 but it says that it's only meant for VR Skyrim. Which I don't have, nor will I play it in VR, but the fact remains that I can't use the new and updated SKSE for my game.
I get that Bethesda is trying to make their games more console friendly. But to the point where my game breaks when I got to create a new character when I've spent nearly a full day trying to get my mods installed and working properly. Especially, since most mods are SKSE dependent. I've downgraded it and hope it'll work but it still irritates me that this happened.

You installed the VR version of SKSE. You need SKSE64, non-VR.
@@Apoqsi I was mistaken when I wrote the comment. I downloaded the correct version of SKSE. I just had two different versions of the application extension file installed in my directory folder. It worked once I deleted the older file.

Bethesda has had all the releases since its inception and all the updates, yet they can’t seem to fix that missing water texture when you look west from the front porch of the college (and in other “sea” areas from other costal locations. A FIX WHICH WOULDN’T BREAK THE GAME!!
Thank you! You gave me some hope. I purchased the GOG game to avoid all this update crap - only to find out that SKSE doesn't support the version I bought yet. Hearing that Silverlock is aware & working on it is helping my frustration. Thankfully, the majority of my mods are working without SKSE functioning correctly.
So salty about Starfield, that I can't even appreciate Skyrim anymore to some degree. Even Palworld feels like a better game than Starfield.
This is exactly why I switched to the GOG version and set it to no updates. I'm still playing on and older version and all my mods work. A lot of the mods still did not work with the first update Bethsda had even though some of the mods were fixed or being fixed by the mod authors and being as how steam wouldn't even let me play the game without updating even after I turned my auto updates off it wasn't worth it. All of my mods work fine with no issues thank god because it was a pain. I'm happily playing on version 1.6.659 with no issues and I will not be updating either.
Not upgrading to the Anniversary Edition is the best decision I've made with Skyrim modding. My modlist stays perfectly intact no matter how long I go between play sessions.

Cornfused. This vid is so late my 2000 mod, w many SKSE Greatest Hits, v1.6.1170 build was fully fixed days ago when RaceMenu finally dropped. Based on Nexus jabber that seemed true for many. It only takes a smidge of patience to weather these updates (bless AddressLibrary).

Question - as someone who has only played through Skyrim once before - using a Barbarian build - and found encounters with dragons awkward beyond words - is there a way to make such encounters less...anti-climactic when using a melee build? I had to get a bow and a bunch of arrows because I found the immersion-breaking that my double-headed axe or whatever it was too trying :P
Regardless - I'd like to hear ya'll take on what the most "fun/chill" build is. I've no interest in tryharding in games anymore. I just want to have a good time man. Let me know! I'm thinking about revisiting the game with a fresh build.
This why I saved stuff to a flash drive the first time they broke it was mess sadly I am have wait my hdmi and fan shut down while playing other stuff skyrim se was find but I not taking a chance on that but I got all my mods saved due bethesda and their updated busy seeing if my other system can handle so far just lag but runs while I wait on my repaired gaming computer

And there go my saves. They were already in a state that salvaging them was dubious, but when I saw Steam updated Skyrim I knew they were gone for good.
I have never completed this game, it breaks in some way before I can ever manage it. I do have a spare laptop god I wish I set up mods and set Steam to offline before this update destroyed everything.

My Load Order keeps shutting stuff off and shuffling randomly.
90% of button inputs in Creations menu (particularly, Reorder, going back, progressing/activating virtually anything and everything, and even reorders undoing themselves...
Skyrim had a good thing going, then it screwed everything up, and they can't even fix it right.

I would suggest 2 videos - One for the Actual version down grade and pros and cons of which to use, and the second (in parts 1, 2 & 3?) for Mod versions of most popular and useful mods. That way we don't get a 4-6 hour epic!

After downloading an overhaul mod for fallout 4 off nexus, i figured Skyrim would be just as easy. Spent 3 hours to not be able to download constellation. Uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times because i the downgrader couldnt find any of the files. Really frustrating. Constellation looked and sounded incredibly fun

I'm never updating my skyrim from special edition.
This is why I have it set to update on launch and never launch it through steam. Also there is the downgrade patcher which works perfectly fine
I already updated all my mods lol just waiting for Fast to update

Skyrim is still Bugged with this one detail since 2 Years now. When you have the Golden Claw on you before you gave it to Lucian Civil War soldiers and some city npcs turn hostile!
THIS is why you should just turn off updates (make the game update only when i launch the game) and stick to a version and make it so skyrim is read only so steam will never update even if you accidentally click the update button because the game can't be write to the exec file anymore. i stick to 1.6.64 I do not wanna deal with this bullshit every time i want to just play skyrim after work. I think it is bullshit that Bethesda wants keep updating a game form a decade ago for some cheap money. this is not them adding content just trying to get money. and the fact they keep doing this to Skyrim is a disgrace. i love this game but this is just frustrating to see.

100% you should make a video on how to downgrade and make skyrim Read only. it is not hard for people to learn but it is a bit of a process, especially with users who use mods aren't the most MOD experienced. Doing what i said above really helped me out, i love when theres guides like this out there that can help people now and in the future. there was plenty of videos i found of someone posting a video and me finding it like 2 years later and it helping out. Just stayed on .97 build, no issues here.
Will have the read only and no update unless I have to fix the game, because of modding.
I'm not looking forward to the Fallout 4 next gen upgrade, only because of things like this. I deleted ALL of my modded saves on Skyrim and have quit using mods because of all the breaks with updates. Just got tired of my mods getting broke. It's sad because i used to love all the mods. I'm afraid that Fallout 4 will end up the same way, and i'll walk away from mods all together. It's not fair to the modders because they've put so much hard work into their mods.
i really hope beyond skyrim works for 1.5.97, i dont to be forced to use version 1.6

Yes please Make a detailed tutorial on how to downgrade Skyrim. I am not very tech savvy and I'm just now jumping into mods and I don't have a lot of resources that I understand clearly. Thank you for your time.
