I bought my car in 2017 used and had 41,600 miles on it. The car came with problems the previous owner didn't fix. Since the repairs on my car were under warranty, I didn't have to pay a dime for those repairs. I've had my car over 3 years now and it's been a reliable vehicle for me. It's gotten me to where I need and want to go. I'm now over 61,200 miles and I've had no major problems with my car.
Glad to hear 👍🏽 he’s happy with the car after the turbo replacement aswell, and yes the mpg he told me of camera actually is closer to 40 depends how you drive
Your friend is a lucky guy, my 2010 1.8 N/A with 108k miles has twice transmission rebuild, oil cooler replacement, most of the gasket except for head gasket has gone and leak badly. (ps: I did a lot highway miles and use High quality branded oil, never miss or late for the service schedule. Change the timing belt at 55k miles)
Edmund Cheah oh wow, sorry to hear you have so many issues with your car. Thanks for sharing hopefully your experience helps someone reading my comments!
My car has 145000, it has been serviced according,in one of the garages where I bought it. Few days back it had an oil leakage, and after I identified the problem, I approached the same garage where I bought. They said the problem was seals, about replaced the new ones. When test driving the car, the engine was damaged completly F
I have a 2012 cruze eco manual, bought new @17,500$. I do not drive it too much, now it is only 60k miles, but most of are local miles, not the high way. In the ~10 years ownership, I only spent ~100$ to change the water hose. I change the oil by myself, every 12 months, since I do not drive much. I rank cruze a decent car.
Keep in mind folks these cars were not engineered to be performance cars. If you want speed/power this car is not for you. They were built as a gas saving option for the commuter. Now, like many cars out there you can mod the engines/performance and get them to be faster cars but it takes skill/know how and some deep pockets to keep them running safely/at peak performance. Once you do this you may also have to upgrade brakes, suspension all other things in that car that will need to be upgraded to safely handle the speed, maneuvering of the vehicle. Engine and trans are not the only things that should be considered when upgrading engine performance in a car. Also, these engines have a lot of plastic. These turbos create an enormous amount of heat that can, with time, degrade these components. There is an oil feed hose that goes to that turbo that can get clogged up if the oil is not changed out as directed by factory specs. You really have to be mindful of the engines oil level. Check it frequently to ensure your engine is not consuming too much oil. If so, get it checked out or else face the possibility of expensive engine repairs.
I’m relatively shocked you made it to 80k! My good friend has a Cruze and the turbo went out at 60k. He also had to replace a myriad of other parts around the same mileage. At under 80k the motor detonated. Unfortunately he’s still making payments and has just recently paid 2300.00 and change for a used lower mileage motor. Now, he’s trying to find a shop to swap the motor. It seems a lot of mechanics tend to shy away from the 1.4 and for good reason. It’s trash…
This was a great car. Key word, WAS! This car is such a money pit. So many issues. Changed the exhaust manifold THREE TIMES. Oil drip pan leaks. Coolant leaks. Water pump replaced. Alternator replaced. Hoses changed. Radiator. And the car is having head gasket issues. I finished paying off my car in January. But it's MAJORLY been going down hill since then. I'm trading mine in for a Subaru. Oh, and KBB price, this car is practically worthless. This car is a major lemon. I'm sad, but happy to be getting rid of it. It's a very fun car to drive. Great body style. Amazing MPG. But it's SO not worth the headache anymore.
I can’t put in to words of how much I hate my Chevy Cruze. Bought the car and it had 106,000 miles. Let’s start from the top. PCV valve, head, pcv valve again, heater hose, AC, radiator fan, turbo, heater hose again, coolant reservoir, and now it’s currently leaking oil, leaking coolant, my radiator fan didn’t come on, and it overheats lol. I’ve had this car for 3 years. And literally causing me to go in to depression because I’m stuck with the car for 72 FUCKING months.
Its a good thing he drives a lot of highway miles. The transmission would had failed already if he drove more city miles. That car is junk. Chevy does not make the Cruze anymore. Internet search "2011 Chevrolet Cruze problems, defects & complaints".
2015 Cruze 1.4t... at 21000 miles slave cylinder failed, 24000 miles slave cylinder and transmission needed to be replaced. 25000 miles coil pack failed. At 33000 miles PCV stuck open filling intake manifold with oil and thermostat was stuck open. Extended warranty has expired now. I'm getting rid of this car as soon as I can. I feel bad for the next owner.

@@artysgarage yes it was horrible! I wish I had done my research on the car before I purchased it. I took care of it how I was supposed to.
