I feel pretty certain this issue is the result of the fact that the Chevy Cruze is actually a rebadged Holden Cruze…. Designed for the Australian market which means right hand drive vehicles. If you were an engineer and you were trying to import an Australian vehicle to the states, would you really want to pay the extra cost to stamped sheet metal, manufacture filler necks, and make a mirror image of a gas tank just to sell them in a country that does not necessitate left versus right on any vehicle whatsoever… By law that is?
I own an F150 and rented a Chevy Cruze. I was really impressed with its handling and I prefer the gas intake on the passenger side (the lines are shorter at the gas station).
I have a 2011 & I have had no problems with mine, I don't have any of the upgrades like remote car starter or sunroof. I only have 60,000 miles on mine though cuz I had brain surgery and couldn't drive for a while. I absolutely love my car! I live in New Hampshire & it's held up in 7 winters now so that's pretty impressive to me!
MegzToyReviewz this is great to hear! I’m looking at buying a 2011 Chevy Cruze myself. I’ve been hearing a lot of negative things about the car but I had my doubts.
@@AlejandraHdez I slid off the road into a snow bank one time but that was cuz I was going to fast around a corner 😂 I didn't get any damage, I just got stuck & had to climb out the window cuz the snow was so high up on my door 🤦🏻♀️.
It’s actually a decent complaint considering most of the tanks are dead center on these cars unlike the trucks, which means it isn’t any more difficult to just put the filler neck on the driver side rather than passenger side of the tank
Car manufacturers put gas caps on the driver's side for half of all vehicles they sell and on the passenger's side for the other half. This is to make life easier for gas stations.
I have a 2013 LT2 RS M/T. Had a problem with my key fob not working as well as it used to. Switched it out with my second one, works great. One thing I do hate is that if my key is in my pocket, sometimes my trunk will open even though the car is locked.

I bought myself a 2015 Chevy Cruze in January! I love it so much, my insurance isn't bad at all with this car, it's actually less than what I was paying for my truck I used to have.
The gas cap location isn’t a problem. It really doesn’t matter what side it’s on. Although it is safer if you have to fill the tank while on the side of the road.
@@romioamante7886 No! Not a good choice for a reliable car. In fact, my mechanic said this is probably the worst car that he has to deal with on a regular basis. So I wouldn't recommend this car for long term. Sorry, and stay blessed and healthy.
I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure that the reason for the higher insurance for this car in general is due to the fact it has a turbocharger, no matter the output the cars gives I believe insurance companies habe a standard policy to charge more just because it has a turbo. But I am hoping not because I just bought a 2012 Cruze LT RS 😞
You are correct sir! I know from experience after having owned 2 different turbocharged cars, that my insurance was higher than normal, especially when having collision coverage on a policy... I've had an insurance agent tell me that generally any car with a turbo from the factory will have a higher number on their symbol index ratings list. It certainly stinks and is'n't fair, but I guess their statistics prove that cars with turbos get into more accidents...:(
I have a 2012 Cruze RS, and I have a love hate relationship, lol. Yes, insurance is SUPER expensive compared to other cars, I could have bought a new 2017 Elantra Sport and be 30 bucks cheaper a month compared to the Cruze. I also have the same headlight issue as well. Any mechanical issues? I've been through two transmissions, 1 valve cover gasket, trunk switch, wheel hub, and two coil packs/spark plugs. My car just turned over 57k today. I have videos on my channel if your interested.
Nope use midgrade... premium is unnecessary but regular kills some of your performance ESPECIALLY when the AC on... people might say theres no need for midgrade but i promise you youll notice the difference... i spend $30 on my tank from empty too...
I have a 2016.5 Cruze RS and I only use Premium. For turbocharged applications it's always a better idea to use full synthetic oil and premium gas. Especially for the longevity aspect of your car. Premium is a preventative against 'engine knock'. Also if your knock sensors go out, premium will reduce the amount of engine knock present.
if the insurance puts some of yall of the cruze but you like the car otherwise, consider going for the naturally aspirated 1.8L version. it has the same horsepower, but lower 0-60 as well as slightly worse gas mileage (i get around 26 city 33 highway). I havent personally driven a cruze other than my LS model so i cant really compare drivability, but i don't have any complaints other than it being generally slow. from what ive read, the 1.8 is more reliable in some ways, but you also dont get any of the bells and whistles you see in this video. I don't have a sunroof, alloy wheels, remote start, or cruise control, which does get annoying on long trips. but all i really need to be happy in my car is a way to play music from my phone. the LS also has the option of a manual if that's your style.
Touch the key fob to your head, acts like an antenna. Works with my truck because at first I didn't believe it. Sometimes I can remote start my cruze from across the parking lot. Also, my insurance is pretty high but I thought it was because I just turned 21?
Have you had any transmission issues with your cruze mine is in the shop now. It's a 2013 I have been very unhappy with mine one problem after the other.
My 13 has transmission issues. Constantly going up to 6thousand-7thousand rpms before shifting. If you punch it even a tiny bit it'll drop 2 to 3 gears and go right up to 6 grand and you don't go anywhere. INCREDIBLY annoying
Nick Dahlstrom wow yes I feel your pain .when I wrote that comment mine was in shop for a wk the seal had a crack or something was leaking transmission fluid like crazy thankfully I have a extended warranty but mine has been worked on several times with that "serging " issue. I've been so disappointed with this car.
Nice review! I have a 2014 Chevy Cruze base line and the power steering symbol light up and the message displayed power steering low on the message display. Problem is where is the power steering reservoir located? I turn the car off waited a few minutes and restarted with no message displayed. Tried this several times, once again no displayed message. Some TH-camrs have stated it’s the battery because the power steering is electrical. What are your views on this?
Insurance might have something to do with visibility. How low is the seat compared to the window height. Why do the newer cars have the windows up so high & the seats cannot be adjusted very high relative to the windows? Is there a hump to look over to park & reverse? Is it difficult to enter & exit and where are the dome light controls?

I have a 2013 Cruze LT. My biggest complaint is the legroom especially the foot room (pedals). Feels like I’m driving in a clown car I’m heavily debating trading it in because it’s just uncomfortable to drive especially when my heels are clicking every time I brake
me too hated that thing the first day i had the cruze i ordered door and sun roof wind defectors and the ugly sun roof deflector screen mesh thing pops right off without tools i did this and put on the plastic one took 2 minutes to get it out. if anyone is in need of a replacement please let me know.
I have the Buick Verano and it’s related to Chevy Cruze but Buick put some very healthy engines with much bigger horsepower numbers in the Buick Verano zoom, zoom !
A thing a hated about my Chevy Cruze was it was very small and the gear shift was literally just slapped in the middle they didn’t care where they put it because somtimes since I’m 6,0 I slap it into manual with my knee and be driving 40 on first gear and if my passenger was big enough they would do the same thing and I would never know
You know what I hate about my cruise? All the cam cover replacements the engine oil cooler lines the upper and lower radiator hoses and I could go on and on.
Lmaoo. 3 cam covers, 2 water pumps and a whole bunch of other HVAC system repairs throughout the years. Haven’t driven my 1.4T in almost a month because the 2nd turbo just failed.
@@90sGasPrices I traded mine in when the check engine light turned on in front of another dealer. I bought another crappy new car. My brother is a master mechanic and he said they all are junk these days. Except for Japanese cars.
Since you hate your car can I have it. I really need a new Chevy Cruze as I drove mine over 230k miles and it’s wearing out. I can’t find another in good condition.
My Mrs has a cruze her petrol door is on the right hand side but so is here steering wheel I myself have a Jeep Laredo my cap is on the left hand side and I drive on the r/h side
My insurance on my 2014 Cruze 2LT RS is $276.86 per month over 11 months and i'm an 18 year old male. I pay less for my Cruze and my old Saturn Astra XR3 than I did just for my Astra.
I have no issues with my Chevy Cruze RS I change out the turbo lower my car 2 and 1/2 inches only thing I did not like about my cruise it was so damn hard to find some wheels for it
I have a 2012 chevy cruze. wish to god I could go back and say screw this pos. I have round 57k miles on it and it leaks anti freeze which I don't know where atm but gonna get looked at soon. I pay round $100 a month for full coverage which imo is pretty expensive for what I thought was an economy car. if you're lookin to buy 1 DONT!
My 2013 Cruze insurance was not bad until I renewed in November 2017. My Cruze insurance with Liberty Mutual went up 56% from 2016 which made it more 28% higher than my 2000 Corvette. I ended up switching my insurance to Progressive which lowered my insurance overall. Now my Cruze insurance is about $8 less than my Corvette. I agree with you on the center armrest. That is a terrible design, the short armrest pad and the fact it does not lock in the forward position makes the armrest almost useless. A couple of additional things I do not like is the fact the HVAC blower switch knob is on the right side and the temperature is on the left side. All the cars I have ever owned have always had the blower knob/switch on the left side closest to the driver and mode or temperature on the right side. I believe that may have happened due to the car originally being designed in a right hand drive configuration maybe for Japan, England or Australia. The other thing I do not like is the door lock switch being on the instrument panel. There should be one door lock switch on each front door.
I dont have the petrol filler flap problem, being in Australia its on the drivers side, but the Chevy does have alot more features than the Holden cruze
I have a 2012 Chev Cruze LT and I love it but I hate how when I use my heat it takes about 5-7 mins to actually blow heat out instead it just blows cold air. I also hate the arm rest as well.
i would say the first thing to be mad about is the fact you bought an LTZ cruze RS (if you bought it new) they where horribly overpriced from the factory if you ask me. i work at a Cadillac body shop that serves many dealerships in the auto group, (Porsche, Cadillac, Audi, infinity, Volkswagen, Chevrolet, fiat, and hummer. also some other oddballs from time to time..i see alot of brand new cars, I aways question why and the hell anyone would buy one of these new when you could have bought something like a Malibu for the money that is alot more car for the money. The cruze is a Daewoo platform, most probably being sold overseas with right hand drive making more sense the gas cap is on that side. im a chevy guy myself i have a 17 midnight edition Silverado i have had for close to a year now. btw the screen on the sun roof is to prevent wind noise. and obviously the loaded version of this car shares alot of the components of the cheaper models considering the car started at i think around 18K. i think one of these brand new sold for over 30k and that is insanity to me for some bells and whistles and a couple styling upgrades.
yea big time lol you got good deal then ha, they probably, hopefully.. had all the recalls done before you got it too. shouldn't be too bad of a car reliability wise, i have a family member with one for a few years now bought brand new, just an LT model noting to special think it was around 20K and it has held up pretty well has around 60k miles now i think with no real issues but, from what ive been seeing they seem to be hit an miss. then again i think it has a lot to do with the drivers beating on them, and not maintaining them well. especially the 1.4 turbo you have to take into account that the turbo has oil and coolant running through it as well so it definitely needs to be kept up with because it is a important part of the way the engine performs making it a little more tricky than a regular engine.
I actually just got rid of it, picked up a 18 Silverado. Only thing I noticed was the Cruze had a small coolant leak on one of the hoses. Had to top it off about once a month.
The problem with the remote start in the receiver. Due to where you put it in your car. My family is a cruze family and we all have that problem. Spend like 200 or more on just the receiver and you should be good. I have a 2014 turbo (1.4l swap) and live in maine so I have to remote start alot due to weather
The gas-door whining is just bitching. C'mon man! I rented a 2018 recently. Overall, the interior design isn't very good. Mine was black on black, & had this annoying silver striping around the dash, stick, etc, which reflected sunlight right into my eyes. Ugh!!And the sound-system is fuckin' TERRIBLE!
How is me complaining about a permanent thing like the gas door considered bitching yet you're complaining about things that can easily be changed and made better lmao

Living up north this car is awful at defrosting my side windows and rear windows, literally every fogs up, super annoying
The gas cap is on the passenger side because the holden / chevy cruze is made in Australia and we drive on the opposite side of the road to you guys.
Idiot!
I have a 2013 Cruze LT. My biggest complaint is the legroom especially the foot room (pedals). Feels like I’m driving in a clown car I’m heavily debating trading it in because it’s just uncomfortable to drive especially when my heels are clicking every time I brake
hmmmm you must be tall. I am 5.9 and felt just fine in the car.
Amazing place, are you living in the paradise?
My 2019 Chevy Cruze Lt I pay around 389 a month so I feel your pain
I have 2012 LT+ 1.7VCDI and after 40000 km needed replace rear crankshaft seal because was leaking, damn after 40k....... else is ok.
me too hated that thing the first day i had the cruze i ordered door and sun roof wind defectors and the ugly sun roof deflector screen mesh thing pops right off without tools i did this and put on the plastic one took 2 minutes to get it out. if anyone is in need of a replacement please let me know.
I honestly think Holden got it SO wrong with the manufacturing of this car
I thought maybe you had an issue with your gas cap leaking. Maybe just learn how to park? 😂
The fob or car is not malfunctioned it’s just the battery ur a new one in signals get weak because the battery is dieing
Also I own a 2011 1.8 with a 6 speed and my insurance is ridiculous
It's a Fuel door..
I have the Buick Verano and it’s related to Chevy Cruze but Buick put some very healthy engines with much bigger horsepower numbers in the Buick Verano zoom, zoom !
A thing a hated about my Chevy Cruze was it was very small and the gear shift was literally just slapped in the middle they didn’t care where they put it because somtimes since I’m 6,0 I slap it into manual with my knee and be driving 40 on first gear and if my passenger was big enough they would do the same thing and I would never know
how does that happen? you have to move the lever to the left to switch to manual so how did you manage that from the drivers seat lmao
You know what I hate about my cruise? All the cam cover replacements the engine oil cooler lines the upper and lower radiator hoses and I could go on and on.
Sounds like its good i sold mine
@@lmfscrew I'm ready to sell mine as well. I've has it for 10 years. Purchased it 2011.
Only thing I hate about mine is you can scroll through the radio channels from the steering wheel.
I have this car but the UK version and the driver side has the petrol cap on it. Weird considering its an American car that they did that.
Since you hate your car can I have it. I really need a new Chevy Cruze as I drove mine over 230k miles and it’s wearing out. I can’t find another in good condition.
My insurance is really damn expensive
My Mrs has a cruze her petrol door is on the right hand side but so is here steering wheel I myself have a Jeep Laredo my cap is on the left hand side and I drive on the r/h side
My insurance on my 2014 Cruze 2LT RS is $276.86 per month over 11 months and i'm an 18 year old male. I pay less for my Cruze and my old Saturn Astra XR3 than I did just for my Astra.
Austin Ralf its $110 for me😂
276 Per month?? Where the fuck do you live and what the fuck did you do wrong to be charged so much. Ok, you're 18, but holy shit!!!
Joe mariconadas I'm 16 and mine isn't that hi
He must have a bad record or something.
Yeah😂
Try putting in a new battery. Works every time. Petty wining.
Definitely get the RS model lmao
I have no issues with my Chevy Cruze RS I change out the turbo lower my car 2 and 1/2 inches only thing I did not like about my cruise it was so damn hard to find some wheels for it
I have a 2012 chevy cruze. wish to god I could go back and say screw this pos. I have round 57k miles on it and it leaks anti freeze which I don't know where atm but gonna get looked at soon. I pay round $100 a month for full coverage which imo is pretty expensive for what I thought was an economy car. if you're lookin to buy 1 DONT!
That's where the gas cap should be though.
Try changing your key fob battery. I doubt ANY car would satisfy you 100%.
Maybe needs a new battery the remote
In love with where you live it’s so beautiful and calming 🌳🌳🌳🌴 n of course the puppy 🐶 😍
Gas tank is on the other side for safety bra 😂
Ya the gas cap thing is stupid, I have a Buick Verano with the same problem.
If you can't even park to have your passenger side fuel cap accessible, better rethink about driving ever again bro
I dont have the petrol filler flap problem, being in Australia its on the drivers side, but the Chevy does have alot more features than the Holden cruze
wow that's weird!
Start mine from 150 yards
I have three cars on my policy and my insurance is pretty reasonable as a way less than 290
I have a 2012 Chev Cruze LT and I love it but I hate how when I use my heat it takes about 5-7 mins to actually blow heat out instead it just blows cold air. I also hate the arm rest as well.
My guess would be replacing the battery on the remote should fix the remote start issue. Only thing I can think of...
I did and it didn't help:/
lmfscrew that's so odd... Sorry to hear!
lmfscrew you need a new remote the buttons and senser wear down after a while
Put a after market remote start on maybe Viper get 1mile and know its running
288.16 for 6 months with Geico 🤦🏽♂️. I’m 21 about to be 22 with no tickets or anything, and that’s with the defensive driving course discount .
I pay $106 a month for my Scion TC. You're lucky lol
Consider yourself lucky. I was paying $72 a month (now $53) and I'm 27 with no tickets or accidents.
Got a 2015 Chevy Cruze Lt Rs only paying 115 a month
If you didn't drive on the wrong side, your gas cap would be just fine.
My car before this one gas tank was other side on passenger side whats the big deal can't walk around
Well you know the gas cap position is actually a great feature cause then ya just tell yer wife to do it!
Lol sorry, guess that's why I'm single!
😁😁😁
i would say the first thing to be mad about is the fact you bought an LTZ cruze RS (if you bought it new) they where horribly overpriced from the factory if you ask me. i work at a Cadillac body shop that serves many dealerships in the auto group, (Porsche, Cadillac, Audi, infinity, Volkswagen, Chevrolet, fiat, and hummer. also some other oddballs from time to time..i see alot of brand new cars, I aways question why and the hell anyone would buy one of these new when you could have bought something like a Malibu for the money that is alot more car for the money.
I bought it for 10.5k with 36k miles lol Original owner got destroyed
yea big time lol you got good deal then ha, they probably, hopefully.. had all the recalls done before you got it too. shouldn't be too bad of a car reliability wise, i have a family member with one for a few years now bought brand new, just an LT model noting to special think it was around 20K and it has held up pretty well has around 60k miles now i think with no real issues but, from what ive been seeing they seem to be hit an miss. then again i think it has a lot to do with the drivers beating on them, and not maintaining them well. especially the 1.4 turbo you have to take into account that the turbo has oil and coolant running through it as well so it definitely needs to be kept up with because it is a important part of the way the engine performs making it a little more tricky than a regular engine.
I actually just got rid of it, picked up a 18 Silverado. Only thing I noticed was the Cruze had a small coolant leak on one of the hoses. Had to top it off about once a month.
The thumbnail says "ecxpected" just in case you didn't notice
Crap lol thanks
Someone stole my dads gas cap
wassup doggo
Hey I have one of those😂😂
The problem with the remote start in the receiver. Due to where you put it in your car. My family is a cruze family and we all have that problem. Spend like 200 or more on just the receiver and you should be good. I have a 2014 turbo (1.4l swap) and live in maine so I have to remote start alot due to weather
Its not for stupid people
Use the app
The gas-door whining is just bitching. C'mon man! I rented a 2018 recently. Overall, the interior design isn't very good. Mine was black on black, & had this annoying silver striping around the dash, stick, etc, which reflected sunlight right into my eyes. Ugh!!And the sound-system is fuckin' TERRIBLE!
How is me complaining about a permanent thing like the gas door considered bitching yet you're complaining about things that can easily be changed and made better lmao
@@lmfscrew The intetior striping on a rental can be changed? Really? The lousy speakers on a rental can be changed? Oh yeah? Guess I should've paid extra for the personalization kit 😊Peace!
Well when its rented does it matter? you have it for a few days or weeks? I owned this car.
@@lmfscrew Take care man. No biggie. I'm out.
All sunroofs have them
Not really the gas tank is perfect
