    I am Amanda from Hong Kong. I make easy and practical cantonese learning videos for complete beginners to intermediate level.
    My full time job is a flight attendant. I enjoy studying foreign languages. My job allows me to visit many places and meet many people. So that I have more chances to practice what I have learned.
    Due to the covid, I haven't fly regularly for over a year. I find TH-cam is extremely helpful for maintaining my language proficiency. One day, out of curiosity, I looked for cantonese learning channels. I was so surprised that there are so little and most of the good one are even from overseas. That's why I started "5 minute cantonese" on 2020.

      almost perfect 🤩
      zi2 neoi5 is the elegant way, very good. If you wanna make it more causal, you can say zai2 neoi2.

    OK I am learning Cantonese because work will take me to HK in the near future. I already speak Mandarin and Cantonese is quite approachable for Mandarin speakers to pick up fairly quickly. I have studied several European languages and thought I'd pick an Asian one for a change. It does feel like a lower hanging fruit for me.

    I learn cantonese because I love Hong Kong movies in the 80s to late 90s. Golden age of Hong Kong cinema. Literally my childhood growing up, and now I’m rewatching these old movies and decided to learn cantonese so that I don’t have to read the subtitles all the time! These English subtitles (and eng dubs)are usually terrible anyway!

    I once heard that when you speak to someone in a language they know, you speak to their intellect. When you speak to them in their mother tongue, you speak to their heart. I want to speak to my wife’s heart, so I’m TRYING TO learn her mother tongue.

      @@5minutecantonese "mut yeh", have you heard of people saying 咩嘢, like this before? It's in my very old spoken lessons.

    • @5minutecantonese
      @5minutecantonese  ปีที่แล้ว

      we still use this now, means "what"

    • @guroluke
      @guroluke ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@5minutecantonese when you say it, it's sounds like "meh", in my old speaking (very old) lessons the sound is "mt", "mut". I was confused when I heard it the other way. I don't know if it's more formal or an old way of speaking. 多謝

    Hi Amanda, do you have audio recordings of the sentences spoken without your explanation that are downloadable? After watching your lessons I like to listen over and over to the sentences you say with the english and chinese one after the other (like those 100 sentences videos), I put them on my phone and listen on repeat, they are perfect for memorizing patterns and reviewing. If you could make those audios and put on your patreon downloadle I would love that!! (Or on TH-cam free even would be amazing too. Thanks so much!)

      @Adam :
      The English example equivalent would be
      1) ' a plate' of food
      2) 2 ' pieces' of paper
      3) A ' bundle' of clothes

      Jyutping System is different from English phonics. J in jyutping sounds the same as German J which is Y sound in English
