Rumor has it that a restaurant owner in New York once hired a gypsy violinist to play romantic songs for the dinner guests. The skilled violinist put his violin to his cheek and made it cry, weep, and moan, playing passionate love songs from the old country, Hungary. .. One couple got so carried away by the music that the man slammed his dinner date across the table and started making out. .. Alerted to the situation, the startled restaurant owner appeared, yelling: "Damn it, Lorenzo! Not THAT romantic!"
Certain musical performances can be far more powerful than any chemical aphrodisiac.
This is REAL Romani music! I closed my eyes and was back in Hungary again.
By whom were you taken and do you need help?
I will be there soon. Maybe I will stay.
IGNORANCE AT ITS FINEST.
Let me explain: thanks to the European Union, nowadays gypsies are called Romani. Gypsy music does not exist, they have taken the repertoire of Hungarian people, Romanian, Ukrainian, etc, but they did not compose any of these songs falsely claimed "gypsy" just because the player is a gypsy. For the sake of humanity, please learn the difference, otherwise, it will no longer exist for you to enjoy it. Saying that, I have no problem with the interpret, I just wanted to bring a ray of light to your heart. It's not fair to the Hungarian people to steal their folklore like this.
@@nemetamalia9680 big respect to that comment, I agree 100% 🇭🇺❤️
Yes this Hungarian folklore music .. but bcuz gypsies are pure talent in music they put it on a higher level .. so it's not gypsies who came up with this song .. but we do have our roma music as well but doesn't sound like this .
I believe this guy is underestimated. His technique is brilliant, his spirit is the strongest, the result is just wonderful! I love him :)

Gypsie spiritual ❤
As a Hungarian refuge, I GET goosebumps listning to him
@iamyesyouareno isn't Hungary a second world country?
What a boy! A true gypsy! They are the world's greatest natural musicians. Love the cadenza with which he starts!
This reaches some uncharted distant regions of the soul.
This is the best ever performance of Czardas. Don't mean to condemn other world class violinists, but he played it so much wonderfully than everyone.
Yes. He is brilliant
AMAZING !!!!!!
Pity the singing wasn't in hungarian 😮
As a born Hungarian i try to stay away from music like this (don't want to stir up old memories) but i couldn't resist this one. Made me cry!
***** apparently they ALL do that day in and out...lol
jampumper Yeah! We have nothing else to do! LOL
***** Thanks for all the good infos! I really didn't know about it, all i know that i used to hear this music in the radio a lot, and it reminds me of my childhood. (a "while" back lol)
You should never be ashamed of you past memories, or the emotions they bring as that is what makes the essence of our very souls. Cushti Santi to you!
Char dash dance
I am stunned at the beauty of his violin, best interpretation of Czardas to date-our piano teacher, Profesor Monteverde, used to play it for us when we were 7 years old in Lima, Peru !! At 70 resonates as the most beautiful musical piece of all times!!!
I love it so much. 🥰 It gave me goosebumps. I'm not Hungarian nor Romani, but it moves my soul regardless.
Thats my uncle right there … nobody play this like him. Ya all going off on this 😅❤❤❤❤❤
Best performance of Vittorio Montis masterpiece I've ever heard. Need to go to the streets of Budapest to listen to a gypsy playing. None do it quite like them
This one has heart, technique, it is stunning. Would love to hear this in person.
00:58 for music start. Amazing talent.
My grandma used to take us to a Hungarian festival every year held at her church. It’s been YEARS since I have heard this, took me right back to that dance floor. There was also bags of grapes hanging off the ceiling people would pull down while dancing, was a great time. Everyone would wear Hungarian clothing, I had a “Kiss me I’m Hungarian button on” that would always be popular with the older lady’s never the cute young ones lmao.
My grandma now 93 years old traveled from Hungry to Canada on a White Star ship when she was a little girl then got her US citizenship and moved to USA. I never learned Hungarian and don’t know much about the traditions but have family in Hungry still that I have met a few times.
The singer here, the late "Ivan Rebroff" died in 2008. He was German, not Russian, having been born in Berlin in 1931. His real name, i.e. his birthname, was Hans-Rolf Rippert.
Here's a link to the Wikipedia entry on him:

Good note, Ramón!
Ramón G Castañeda y
Ivan Rebroff described himself as international, the "connection between East and West". He became a citizen of Greece and lived on the Greek island of Skopelos in the Sporades. You could say he was Greek too according to this. He used to call himself as an International singer who was born in Germany BUT his roots were Russian.
And you are where from ancestors were......................
My grandparents were Hungarian (my dad) and Romania (my mother's father). I have always loved music but I still remember dancing the Czardas at weddings as a child and older. Love it!!
Yes! 🙏🇷🇴❤ I'm half Romanian, half Hungarian. Born in Romania. We have beautiful music and culture.
This is of course original and absolutely brilliant played perfectly. That's really music.
The best interpreter for Czardas as I know
Josef, I am amazed by your talent. I'm 1/4 Gypsy & this is food for my soul.
maybe 1/16th myself (great great grandmother had dalliance!)
But the music really moves me!
Wonderful talent!
Cudowne wykonanie, wielki szacunek dlaWspanialego wirtuoza
That was amazing. I have only love David Garrett; but you have what he has got, you play from the heart too! Bravo!🥰⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
May be the BEST version on TH-cam!!
So beautiful!! Reminds me of my parents dancing the Czardas. They were so beautiful dancing. Thank you so much. ❤️
The correct spelling is CSARDAS ! This Gypsy guy made my day ....... WOW he plays it so well. Awesome !

Hungarian csardas played by Hungarian soul

Magnificent, masterful performance! Thank you!
I love this music. My mum loved Hungarian folk music and listening to it makes me feel close to her.
Bravo! Nagyszeru. Loved it.
The BEST I’ve ever heard. Gives me goosebumps. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
the audio quality of this video is amazing.
This was very beautiful.
Absolutly wonderful!!.. Thank you so much!!....
So full of joy , energy and nostalgia. Great
Josef!! you are one of the few, who maintains the "true" gypsy traditions. I am so moved and inspired by your unrestricted performance..so ease and relaxed! thank you so much!
I'm sorry but the Csárdás is a Hungarian traditional dance and music . Csárda same as a pub in England or Ireland. Gypsies play so nice the Csárdás on violin. One more thing. Hungaryan people are not same as gypsy people. Gypsies sayin we are different people.
Thanks for your information! I simply try to say he, Josef, is great in this performance. In the introduction in this video the commentator said Josef is from "real Gypsy family..NOT emphasizing "Hungarian." Any way I love this rendition or version of Czardas, composed by an Italian composer, V. Monti!!!
You are right Hungarian's don't like to be called Gypsies if there not. I'm Hungarian Gypsy on my Mamo ( mean's Mother ) side I have a Cousin who is a very good Violin Player George Batyi who play's a lot in the USA.
Your last name of Szalai caught my attention. My father's parents came from Hungary and his name was Joseph Szalai and was wondering if you could be a distant cousin?
So beautiful!
magnifique, je n'ai pas de mot......... bravo bravo !!!!
Melts the soul and warms the coldest heart. Truly awesome talent.

Thank you Szalai.
I love how unconcerned he is with the appearance of virtuosity! He simply plays to play! This is a quality many performing violin soloists lack imo!

Simply the Best!

UN ARTIST CE STIE SA FACA LUMEA MAI FRUMOASA, RESPECT
BEAUTIFUL!!!
I not only love the music as a Hungarian/Slovak, but it brings to mind the folk tale my grandmother told me about HER grandmother being seduced by a gypsy violinist ("fiddle player"). May explain how when doing shows where I was supposed to be a bad "fiddle player', I managed to do it just well enough that it wasn't totally abhorrent! (Same with piano - have no training whatsoever. In one show, someone taught me chords to play to accompany my singing. One night, I lost track of the piano keys, and just soldiered along. Director told me he overheard an audience member at intermission saying "He must be a marvelous musician to play the piano that badly so well!)
Can you tell us the folktale about your grandma being seduced by a gypsy fiddler?
nice Violin, beautiful music & a great violinist!
Töne, die die Seele streicheln, nennt man MUSIK.
I saw Ivan Rebroff in the Durban City Hall which was packed to the rafters and standing room only. About 2500 people in the city hall watched as he enthralled us with his music. I think it was in the very late 1960s or very early 1970s that he toured South Africa.
Magnifico !!!!!!! excelente violinista!!! excelente acompanhamento! gostei.
Love this song!
