Honestly, they switched Tanya and Sindel’s personalities. Originally, Tanya was the evil one while Sindel was the sympathetic one. Now, if you take Tanya’s MKX ending into consideration, Tanya is the one who cares for Edenia while Sindel is the one who does not.

Sadly, I don't think that MK11's rules allow for different personalities between different versions of the same character. Which is understandable as personalities are what define characters at their most basic level, but still.

@@brauwow I'm sure most of them just left Midway after the whole bankruptcy thing, while the remaining ones founded NRS. It's a shame too, because some of those employees put some great effort into MK. For example, Max Crawford was a brilliant voice for Shujinko and I doubt anyone would even get close if they ever brought back that character. He didn't voice anyone else in the newer games, so my guess is he departed entirely. Shame.
@@brauwow He left in the middle of MK:Special Forces development. Midway did managed to crank out 2 games with really good stories with Deadly Alliance and Deception, Armageddon was weird in that the gimmick of including all characters feels like it damaged the end product more than help it.

John vogel (one of the original timelime's writers) worked on mk2011, it was his last credit in storyline.
During and after mk2011 the changes were evident in the way characters are written and voice actors are the ones that give them a sense of personality.
I doubt Ed Boon really cares about anything other than money.

Krampus 2425, Ivy in Soulcalibur has skimpy clothing, but she’s an anti-hero like the old timeline of Sindel, so whenever you’re playing a video game you’re supposed to base the character off of their origins in the story mode instead of basing it off the gameplay and game design.
Honestly, I'd have been okay with her heel turn IF she'd turned on Shao Kahn after they killed Kronika; you could have a great scene of her talking about the pain and suffering she's endured watching her realm being consumed by Outworld, the genocide of her people, the misery of her life as Shao Kahn's unwilling bride, the torment of her fate following her suicide and resurrection by Quan Chi, all as she whips the flesh from his bones with her hair. Then she turns round and faces Shang Tsung, and that's how you decide the fates of the realms: Sindel vs. Shang Tsung, the Edenian Queen vs. the Outworld Sorcerer, both previously servile to Shao Kahn against their wills, now both free of his bondage, fighting for the fates of countless billions of souls. After the fight, desperate to atone for the actions she had to take in order to keep Shao Kahn convinced she was on his side, Sindel kneels to Liu Kang as he steps through the portal, his faith in her being truly good being rewarded despite the risks Fujin had earlier worried about, and he sculpts a prosperous Edenia for her to rule over with grace and benevolence in the New Era in gratitude.
But nah, she's just evil, innit?

Midway made a tangled mess in the span of 8 games.
After becoming Netherealm Studios, they decided the best plan was to untangle the mess.
In the span of 3 games, they tangled it even more than before.
How do you pull that off?
It's a rebooted timeline where many events that occurred in the original timeline were altered. Some more than others. The new timeline was never going to be a 1:1 retelling of the original events.
Besides, Sindel's new backstory is way better. She's a proper villain now. Not some cowardly pushover that killed herself.
Her original backstory, while somewhat unique and not cliche, was nonsensical and poorly thought out. I mean, think about it. While her realm was getting decimated for 9 straight generations, on the verge of losing her realm, she stood by and did nothing? Then, after their 10th defeat and Kahn's merger of Edenia being allowed by the Elder Gods, she still does absolutely nothing? No last ditch effort? Then, wanting nothing to do with Shao Kahn's madness, she flees and KILLS HERSELF? She left her daughter by herself with the same madman that killed her husband and absorbed her realm. That's a "loving" mother? We're expected to believe that this cowardly woman is supposed to be a powerful person? She was nothing more than a coward and a pushover until she was resurrected and brainwashed. While her new backstory might be kind of cliche, it at least establishes her as an alpha right from the start. She was always strong, and always had an ulterior motive. She wanted power. She wanted to be worshipped, and she didn't care who she hurt to get it.
I don't want to sympathize with major villains, or to believe that they can be redeemed. I want them to be evil.

Y'know, something's always bothered me about the Revenant characters in MK11. Why are Revenant characters (and by association, Evil Raiden) given their Revenant forms as their default look when *none* of their dialogue was designed for Revenants at all? Kotal will still speak romantically with Revenant Jade, Liu Kang and Kitana will still speak romantically if one of them is a Revenant, Revenant Kabal still associates with the Black Dragon, Evil Raiden will ask Cassie *forgiveness* for Sonya's fate when he was literally stone-faced about it in Story Mode. Why is the portrayal of these characters so conflicted and contradictory???
Allow me to frame how ridiculous this can get: the moment I pick up the game, I go into a Tower with Kitana in her default Revenant skin and get into a fight against Noob Saibot. Noob then tells Revenant Kitana that Revenant Kitana is looking for her. Revenant Kitana responds by telling Noob that she has no more use for her Revenant. Noob retorts that Revenant Kitana wants Revenant Kitana’s soul. Imagine if I WASN'T already aware of these characters and their 20+ year history, and how stupid this interaction must be. I don't see how this managed to slip by the designers when MKX had separate dialogues for Revenant characteers, and IJ2 even had separate dialogues for Premium Skin characters like Power Girl or Reverse Flash.
A Bad Idea ye i think the dialogue system is getting worse....in injustice 2 the intros were either repeated or didnt make sense...especially superman repeating every damn thing all the time and batman not making sense...aswell as all the others of course....but in mk11 its just messed up how revenents talk like they arent revenants....fucking stupid.

Khan's forces took him back have him the breathing machine n used magic to bring him back ie why he has the super speed. His mind is wiped and his fights with the black dragon till he gets his memories back n he joins the earth team until he's captured and used again on the bad side. Also all of that he was always a black dragon is bs bc he was also an undercover officer in the organization. Another reason Kano wanted him so bad

Again, there WERE ways to do this "twist" without destroying her character. 4thSnake actually covered something like this where at the final battle at Kronica's Keep just when Kahn is about to win Sindel betrays him as she formulated a secret plan with Kitana to allow them victory against Shao Khan and Shung Tsung. It was a all a ruse and in the end it's a tag-team with mother and daughter against the man who ruined their lives for so long and ultimately killing him.

I admit I didn't know much about Sindel when I played Mortal Kombat 11...but I did play MK9, and I remembered MK9. So even me, someone who got into this franchise via the NRS games, was still confused by this Sindel twist. Before the twist that she was evil all along, I had just assumed Shang Tsung brought back the mind-controlled version of her or put her under mind control of his own...but the twist came and I was very confused. Mainly from one BIG question.

It ends with Sindel having a redemption ark where she "wins back her man." I've noticed a theme with the new characters and writing of the classic characters. Almost none of the characters are compelling. Take a look at Kollector for example. Who is he? What does he do? Why is he here? Is he important to the story? He's just a multilimbed thing that collects gold and has a weird accent. How compelling eh? Literally could've replaced him with reptile.
As for a classic character, take Shao Kahn. He was a patient, intelligent and powerful ruler of Outworld that was almost always on top of things. Now he's just some incompetent big brute who bursts into a tantrum every 5 minutes. See what I mean??

And then they wonder why are the fans upset. Hey, Ed, would you by chance be upset if it was revealed that Scorpion was a child molester all along? No? Why? He looks pretty evil with the skull motif and all, there's gotta be something vile about him.

Hattan AlShutaifi Sindel being evil in the new timeline could work as a mask of sorts to hide her true self akin to how Kitana originally was in MKII. Like mother, like daughter. Unfortunately, she never got the chance to free herself. Specifically in MK11A, if it wasn't Shinnok or Shao Khan, it was Shang Tsung. It took Fire God Liu Kang's trickery to save her.

because a lot of Edenian designs are Asian I think they chose Asians as the base model for Edenian characters. Sindel's guan dao or crescent blade, Kitana's war fans, Mileena's Sais. If you look at Jerrod and Ermac (who's supposedly Edenian mostly) in MK9, it shows a lot of Asian designs. Games these days are using facial scans of existing models so they probably asked for an asian female model for the face instead of making them from scratch like in previous games.

In her intros with Baraka, she is shown to outright hate the tarkatans and she mainly sees them as slaves. She also despises weak people so much that she is willing to kill her own family member just to get a powerful person on her side. Mileena is literally half-tarkatan and Sindel hates tarkatans. Mileena has also lost every fight she’s been in from mk9 to mkxwhich pretty much defines her as weak, not to mention losing to Kitana. if we r going by Thotdel, there is no way she would claim her as her daughter as she is weak due to her fights being losses and the fact she has features of a slave race which she hates. Her liking mileena is very contradictory and doesn’t make any sense

People say that we overreact over fictitious characters, that it is wasted passion, but I find there is nothing wrong with believing in something that you care about, and Sindel is no exception. As a major pillar of the forces of light corrupted and claimed by tragedy, sindel was a victim that everyone who believed and adored her character wanted to save. Now that she is this....doppelganger, this warped and distorted Jezebel that is completely unrecognizable to me, I cannot abide what NRS have done. They have betrayed those whose trust matters most, and they have condemned her to a fate worse than any punishment real or fantastical. She was important to us, she was real to us.

Is it me, or is modern MK very, very simple? Like, I know complex doesn't always equal good. Trust me, I'm a fan of Kingdom Hearts. But in MK now-a-days everything is very "what you see is what you get". No one has layers. For example, Revenant Liu Kang shouldn't have a problem with anyone except Raiden. If he runs into Johnny, he should be trying to coax Johnny into stepping aside and if they do come to blows, have a line where he says something like "I will not enjoy this" Or "Sorry, but this must be done."
Speaking of Revenants and tying it to my original point, no one seemed to be mournful for the Revenants who- and I can't stress this enough- *they know aren't in full control of their bodies but are fully aware of what's happening since Jax is still haunted by his time as one*. You don't have that back and forth where maybe Cassie wants to take down the Revenants, but Jacqui is hesistant because she knows from her father how bad it could be. We don't see Jacqui try to talk a Revenant down while Cassie just opts for combat. There's just no nuance to be found. Good fights bad. No time for shades of gray.
As someone who didn't get into MK lore until I found this channel, I sympathize with everyone who followed it for years.

Speaking of the Revenants, Kung Lao's arcade ending in Mortal Kombat X reveals that he hates being a revenant, and he eventually overcomes his corruption with the help of Kung Jin. In Mortal Kombat 11, this isn't brought up once, and Revenant Kung Lao never shows any remorse for his actions.
@@ryanm.8720 It's almost as if they could've done an entire game focusing on Dark Raiden's lust for the destruction for any potential threat to EarthRealm vs the other defenders wanting to find a way to save the Revanents. Maybe Raiden will eventually reach the conclusion that the Realm is bigger than his past comrades and will seek to destroy them (maybe he thinks their journey to save their friends is foolish and will pose a threat to the realm). Maybe bring Shang Tsung back as someone who approaches them with a solution to returning them to life, but for a cost. This could take the story into other Realms that have been nonexistent in the NR era (possibly use Shujinko as a guide to the different realms in a neat easter egg). But no, we got Kronika.
I'm 100% just spitballing, but it would be cool to see characters show depth and nuance again. Like, sure, Shang Tsung is evil. But if helping the Kombat Kids return some of their friends (not Liu Kang, of course) progresses his own motives and goals, I could see him playing along with them. Plus new dynamics are always welcomed.

With Dark Raiden on the loose trying to conquer Outworld (making Kotal Kahn’s MKX ending canon because it was amazing), the earth realm heroes try to save the revenant heroes from corruption. To help with this, Bo Rai Cho figures out how to resurrect Shang Tsung, and proceeds to train him. Through his time of torture in the nether realm, his realization that Kahn betrayed him and his training with master Bo Rai Cho, he starts to temper his aggressions and regret his evil past. This could lead to interesting interactions with both the klassic heroes who don’t trust him due to his past and the kombat kids who have only seen this side of him and therefore trust him more.
This could culminate in a fight between revenant Lui Kang and the redeemed Shang Tsung, their roles now reversed. After the fight, Shang Tsung uses his abilities of soul weaving to free the souls of the corrupted heroes, at the cost of his own. Essentially he broke their souls free of the nether realm but bound his own to it again in the process.
Lui Kang: You’ve doomed yourself, we’ve no way of saving you from becoming a revenant. Why would you do that for us? For me of all people?
Shang Tsung: Raiden has gone mad, earth realm needs it’s champion... and it isn’t me. Only you can stop him now.
*the two rivals stare at each other. Lui Kang bows in respect, Shang Tsung follows suit. As the heroes leave for the final fight, Shang Tsung begins to morph into a revenant. A tear rolls down his face, then a contented smile, before he is dragged back to the nether realm.*

Not only do I feel the newer games play a lot shittier than the 3d ones, the nrs stories completely betray their characters too. I think the only characters that were really handled okay in the new timeline was just the special forces, Liu Kang (when he's not being an irrelevant fucking revenant), and Raiden (who they severely wasted as dark Raiden yet again)
This is what happens when bad writers don't understand deep and complex characters, and decide to do no fact checking before writing for one anyway.

John Tobias. We need John Tobias back. The more I think about this, the more I am convinced this was done to bastardize his contributions to the franchise.
My suggestion for a fix: Pretend the Nu Timeline never happened, go back to the end of Armageddon, have Taven beat Blaze like he did in the game's own damn story mode (Konquest Mode, same thing in MKDA and MKA). Make MK12 (which would be MK8 in the original timeline) set about 10 years or so after Armageddon, stuff got even crazier after Taven's victory basically powered up everyone at the pyramid. Some Nu Timeline characters can return, if they fit (Jacqui and Cassie can't, at least not for a while in the story, Kronika and Geras are of course major no-nos as Titans existing break the lore to a hilarious degree).
This would be my general outline for an MK12 that takes place post-Armageddon:
Tanya is now a dragon caller and is threatening to take Edenia by force (not as strong as she was implied to be in her Armageddon ending as she only got a fraction of Blaze's power, but her dragon calling *is* strong enough to replace her rather generic fireball specials and have a few more new ones taking advantage). Taven has taken up the role as the new God-Protector of Edenia. Mileena is in Edenian prison, which Kitana put her in in the aftermath of Armageddon. Rain is MIA. Sindel is still a benevolent badass and hero.
Nitara doesn't become a blood god, but is on the power level of a blood demigod, the Moroi nobility in Vaeternus treat her as their defacto God-Protector. Vaeternus was offered to help aid in the current conflict but Nitara is busy dealing with an escaped Ashrah and a power hungry Skarlet - who wishes to absorb Nitara's blood demigod-like powers.
The Chaosrealm vs Seido tensions are reaching an all time high, Hotaru has assassinated and took the place of the Seidan monarchy as - according to him - the fact the government hasn't utilized his new found powers to properly eradicate Darius's rebellion. Lord High Hotaru is secretly commanding the Seidan scientists to work on transferring the raw power of Orderrealm's god-protector - who Seido has long had locked up and used to fuel the city-realm's levitation ring that allows Seido to float in the sky - directly into Hotaru, permanently. Darius had attempted to flee to Chaosrealm, but the usual portal he uses to slip between the realms isn't responding for some reason. Dairou is killed in a failed solo attempt at assassinating Hotaru.
On the Chaosrealm side of the conflict, Chaosrealm enlists aid from both Earthrealm and Outworld. Outworld agrees due to the longstanding grudge between Outworld and Seido, and Earthrealm agrees to help stop Seido to avoid another Shao Kahn situation before it starts. It's revealed as some point that Chaosrealm's God-Protector (who would be the first female God-Protector of a major realm, or possibly the second if Seido's is too - I say this as the other 4 God-Protectors are already confirmed male characters) has been selectively blocking Darius's passage into Chaosrealm under Kochal's - god of chaos - request. Kochal wishes to keep Darius trapped in Seido to speed up the Earthrealm/Outworld/Chaosrealm alliance, and the Chaosrealm G-P agrees because she's The Tempest that Kochal drove mad & broke the realm that is spoken of in canon Deception lore and thus is willing to agree to pretty much anything so long as it aligns with having no reason at all (in her mind).
Edenia backs Earthrealm with Edenia sending Kitana to aid Earthrealm under the condition that Earthrealm sends a few classic characters over to Edenia to deal with Tanya. Netherrealm backs Seido because Sareena & Sub Zero are among the Earthrealm warriors who are dealing with the Chaos vs Seido conflict (specifically, Noob, Kia, and Jataaka are the Netherrealmers who back Seido and thus are playable, Scorpion joins the Sareena/Sub Zero team up). The game ends with supercharged Hotaru as the final boss and both Chaosrealm's The Tempest and Kochal being the main antagonists of the upcoming MK13. There's also a teaser somewhere in there that Shinnok was going to directly get involved in the Chaos vs Seido plot in order to try and steal the god-protector's power (after failing to get a powerup in Armageddon due to him sending a body double in his place), buuuut Baphomet (cut Deadly Alliance character) had informed him that the God-Protector Lucifer has escaped the cage Shinnok had imprisoned him in after his fall.
As for Black Dragon/Red Dragon stuff, they wouldn't be in this game. Red Dragon is still recovering from Daegon's defeat and their HQ being blown up, Black Dragon is currently going through a succession crisis as Tasia is revealed to not only be alive - but also is the direct descendant of the RD member who founded the BD in the first place, so now that Kabal has re-established the clan, and she was initially snubbed in favor of Kano being the head of the clan by her father/grandfather, she's now back to take what she believes is her birthright that was denied to her for all these years.
This all gives a good chance for world building the newer realms, gives a good idea about the level of powercreep Armageddon's story causes and its effects on society, and sets up a Kochal/Chaosrealm/Netherrealm plot for MK13, all while also setting up some more indepth Vaeternus plot stuff later down the road, giving a lot of the human characters a bit of a break to focus on developing the underwhelming 3D era characters into something more interesting, and gives Kia and Jataaka their first playable appearance (and Sareena's first that isn't a port or an "EVERYONE IS HERE" entry). Tanya would become a legitimate threat, we'd round out our currently incomplete God-Protector list, and we can use the MK12 and MK13 plots to slowly move things closer and closer into the "One Being vs *everyone"* finale the narrative has been building since Deception before MK9 came in and forgot about that stuff.
Yes! The quality of characterization started to dip rght after he left, starting with Deadly Alliance. Zombie Liu Kang, many new one-dimensional characters... but they weren't actively sabotaging the foundation, they tried to buld ON it, and some of their ideas were great - the conclusion to Sindel's arc is a shining example. I can only imagine how I would feel if something I created got bastardized this badly.

The storytelling really dipped in Deception and Armageddon. Armageddon's endings made no sense most of the time. When Johnny Cage eschewing fame and becoming a monk is among your more sensible endings, you have a problem.
@Trevor Anthony I prefer to see Armageddon as a good jumping off point rather than a good story itself. Personally, I mostly blame a lot of Armageddon's short comings (story wise) on the fact that only 17 out of 63 playable characters were given endings in the first place, making plot holes like "How is Sheeva back when Deadly Alliance confirmed she died in MK3?".
I don't necessarily think Armageddon should be repeated, but instead taken as a means to get the One Being vs Elder Gods (and by extension, the realms themselves) going properly, by killing off the less useful characters while also giving the ones with story arcs/world building importance a good level up for the coming reality threatening shenanigans that was likely what the endgame for the Mortal Kombat franchise as a whole was supposed to be given the creation myth Deception introduced.

What I mean by this is: This should have just been a new character, because what we got in 11 is NOT Syndel. Even though this is a new timeline, 9 kept things mostly consistent for her, but 11 pretends nothing ever happened, that's just awful writing.

What really gets me about this isn't even the retcon itself, but rather their attitude towards it. From their Kombat Cast they are implying "We can do whatever the hell we want and you are going to eat it up anyway", which is tone death for me.
In MK9 and X they retconned most of what Midway created, which yeah it sucks and shows their lack of respect to the source material, but at least it was somewhat consistent within a single game. MK11 not only retcons what MK9 and MKX retconned previously, but also itself, which is very impressive.
But honestly it shouldn't be too suprising considering what they did with Wonder Woman in Injustice. Superman at least got fleshed out in Injustice 2 and i even could empathize with him at times, but Diana remains completely irredeemable for no good reason and so is this mockery of Sindel.

Or we just remove them like with Tanya, Jin and Mileena. Afterall we needed Frost in a roster and the biggest waste of slot in MK history - Kollektor.

This enmity with Raiden makes no sense and I have this strange theory that some of her dialogue with Raiden was intended for Kung Lao as he would make more sense……..always passed over for Liu Kang

Sindel was an evil queen in this timeline. It’s not the SAME Sindel from MK 2011. I don’t think the writers understood that they are still meant to be the same people. Silent Madness the evil version from Injustice 2. And it’s not that making evil counterparts to classic heroes is bad in itself, but the way she was handled compared to other characters was poor. All the other Justice Leaguers maintained their original personalities to a point in injustice, and were at least given motivation to go down dark paths as they did. Wonder Woman was just made deceitful, power hungry, and bloodthirsty from the beginning, which is not at all how the true Wonder Woman is meant to be portrayed, and it’s at odds with the other more faithful characterizations of the other heroes. The4thSnake actually discusses this in his two Injustice critique videos and his Wonder Woman wasted plotential video. Go check those to see what I mean

(Didn't listen to the rewrite stuff since I don't usually care for that since it's less relevant to me and usually rewrite pitches either dont interest me, or rarely impress me and just come off as fan fiction-like, no offense to him.) After listening to it, I understand his criticisms and yours (Even if i have a much higher opinion of the Injustice story overall AKA I enjoy it and think the comics, and the second game are solid stories) as someone who is a big DC fan. I guess I never realized the dichotomy between evil WW, Batman and Superman (Though I personally think an evil superman is always out of character, Red Son being the exception.) because I've never really had a great grasp of Wonder Woman beyond the basics. While I'm not a big fan of Superman either, it's easy to understand his character inside and out, since like 4thDragon said, he and Batman outshine her.

So I finally got my 10 year old into mortal Kombat this year after deciding he was old enough to play it. (He immediately turned into a bandwagon scorpion super fan but I digress) I was telling him that aside from jade, sindel is my favorite character and I can’t wait for her DLC release. I’m so disappointed that THIS is the fucking sindel he’s going to know. I had to explain that this is not the character I grew to love and that they literally did a complete 180 when it comes to her story and Personality. Even my fucking TEN YEAR OLD was like, “why would they ruin a character like that?” Fucking Christ, I swear he could have written this shit better than they did.
You must have heard your kid tell you stories many times. Pay attention to how even a child knows to add a 'but' whenever their story starts sounding too ridiculous. It's a human instinct that activates when you lie for example, because otherwise no one would ever believe you. Now, NRS are so black and white in their stories that they don't even add the 'but' a child does. Sindel, retcon and betrayal aside, is now just 100% pure evil. Everyone in the universe kneels before her in her ending, literally. Her daughter is in chains by the throne and she is happy about that. Her husband, who she loves for his power, is now weak and pathetic and powerless and she is happy about that, even though it reflects poorly on her and as a power hungry and vain character that should bother her. But it doesn't, because she is pure evil and no logic exists outside of 'evil = the universe kneels'. Who writes like that or tells a story like that? Yeah, not even kids.

Not sure about you, but I was playing MK in the 90s well before 10 years old. There’s violence in most video gamers nowadays. The fact that I do monitor what he plays and make a decision as a parent as to what I think he can handle is what parenting is all about. I can’t shield him from everything. My job as a parent is to, one step at a time, prepare him for adulthood. One of those lessons is separating video games from reality. Is he going to play GTA with hookers and strip clubs? No. He’s too young to understand and process those themes. Can he separate Video game blood and gore from reality after having a mature conversation with me about it? Yes he can. Do you let your kids watch superhero movies? Just because it may not be as anatomically correct or as bloody doesn’t mean it’s not violent. Parenting is talking with your children about separating the two.
Also, not only could my ten year old write a better retcon for sindel, he could spell a lot better than you as well. “Mother of the year right THERE”? You bet your ass I am.

Yeah, I wholeheartedly agree with you there, definitely not He doesn’t play online. Even I, The adult, don’t really enjoy Kombat league or ranked. We just play against each other (which this kid is surprisingly good at. I don’t have let let him win here and there. I legit have to try my best) or he plays story mode. Which again I was surprised when he beat it in its entirety in two days. Like I said I always monitor what and how much he pays via PS network account monitoring. Having Queen Sindel's evil actions not be a product of mind control is probably the worst decision they've ever made. It disregards the entire character of a self-righteous queen just trying to do what's right for her daughter and people. Well according to Kittelsen, all of that before his material is “head canon”. He’s ridiculous and his dialogue is a disaster. Plus his progressive stories are tropey to say the least.

The fighting game was called Tao Feng, or something. It wasnt great, but its not as bad as it gets accused of being. The story and characters were also interesting.

I get that some fans are in it for the violence and gameplay but to be honest, it was the characters that made me keep coming back. That's why this blatant attempt at badly written fan fiction is so offensive to some of us. The game can still be fun but modern games need to be more than that in this day and age. Why should fans invest in interesting characters when they have a very real chance of being an entirely different character in the next cycle?
That brings me to the plot holes. The holes that NRS don't have to concern themselves with because they made the character DLC and omitted them from the story.
What about the loop hole that Kahn took advantage of in MK3?
If Quan Chi and Shinnok were responsible for it, what would they have to gain in preventing Kahn from invading EarthRealm? If anything, they'd benefit in letting him invade which is what happened in MK9.
Why did Geras lie to Kitana in that intro?
Why did Sindal fight for the light side in Armageddon and risk her life in taking on Onaga to save her daughter?
What really killed her in the past? Would Quan Chi even benefit from her death?

dizzydarkrai Ikr. I mean MK1 (like SF1 to be fair) actually kinda sucks. One fatality per character, a couple of special moves and no combos to speak of. It's because it stood out that it stuck around.

MK11 makes me sick with how badly its disrespected its characters, lore, history. Say whatever you will about the game’s gameplay and content but anyone who defends the way NRS has written these past two MK games is flat out wrong. When 2011 came out i gave it the benefit of the doubt considering it was the first game in the rebooted timeline and i felt like it was a good starting point for NRS to work off of and well they had two games to improve and they just got worse and worse. Im done with this franchise.

At least Cersei loved her kids. She was a bitch, schemer and manipulator but she genuinely loved her children. Sindel doesn't even care about Kitana at all. So not only is she a horrible wife, but awful mother as well.
I dont want a reboot after this. They cant be trusted to do the lore before MK9 justice. Also they retconned Sub-Zero's ancestors to edenians not outworldians
It can be counted as addition, not a retcon, but it is unnecessary addition all things considered.

Back in the day I was the original trilogy fan and the 3d era completely passed me by. I always cared about the lore Tobias created, though, and many things in later games still bug me. But there were good ideas there, Sindel's and Scorpion's arcs are shining examples of that. So of course these characters get completely ruined by the reboot.
Honestly, I'm just tired of this bloated, soulless, shallow excuse for an MK game. Of course the majority of players, who either only care about the gameplay or got into these games with MK9, aren't gonna care. NRS isn't gonna care either. They've already showed they no longer care about the core fanbase. It's fitting that Terminator is in this game, as these 2 franchises look so alike these days: cash grabs made by people who don't have a damn clue what made the originals so timeless in the first place.
I'm done, I genuinely hope they never make another MK game again. And if they do, it should leave out all the old characters. That's how they started this reboot: lured the old fans in with the classic stuff, and then punished us for falling for it. And they've been doing that for 8 goddamn years now. I'm done. fuck NRS.

Well, frankly it's about time. They need to even up the sides a little here. Aside from D'Vorah and Mileena (and don't forget that one killed the other), MK has no other female 'bad guys'. It has lots and lots of male bad guys, and lots and lots of female good guys, but not enough representation for feminine evil. This is a step in the right direction for progressivism.
