Well done, enjoy your hi-fi. The way you held your free hand to protect the woofer cone in case the screw driver slipped while driving the screws is a smart tip.
The plans for these are actually for sale. I custom designed these for both a ported and sealed arrangement. The 5.5" I would persoanlly go sealed, but the 7" will go down to around 35hz ported. These are both designed with a 3rd order on the tweeter to protect the tweeter and limit the distortion. There is a second order on the woofer, along with a zobel to control impedance and cone breakup. The result is a very detailed, low distortion speaker with a flat frequency response to 20khz.
Thicker ply, especially for the baffle, would help reduce cabinet resonance as would acoustic wadding. From an aesthetic point of view some veneer would really make these pop.

Nice work, but they don’t sound all that great. They sound extremely similar to the speakers in my iPhone. 😁 I’ve been meaning to pick up a pair of the Esoterics and play with them, but I have far too many nice drivers as it is. Did you line or stuff the cabinet with anything? How would you say they compare to other drivers of the large coil variety? Do you have any experience with Morel or Dynaudio? I have a couple pair of 5-1/4” drivers from each and curious if it would be worth going with the Daytons over those. Excellent work.
nice design but there are a few flaws. - they seem to be sealed but the tweeters don't have their own separate chamber which means they might get pushed around by the pressure the woofers make. if their backs are not tightly sealed, i'm afraid they might not last very long and might produce nasty distortion during operation while they last. - the braces are symmetrical and are placed right in the middle of the box which means some resonances will be more pronounced than others. the size of a good brace should not be a multiple or sub-multiple of any other panel and should be placed in a way that makes the structure of the enclosure asymmetric so panel resonances are even out and kept below audibility.
The tweeters used in this build are inherently sealed and self-contained; they do not require a separate chamber. It is rare to find a tweeter with an open back where it can be influenced by the woofer.
They look very good but why didn't you use the special tape that goes in between the speaker and the wood to lock in the air from escaping? And also you should do 2 coats of prime of white and then 2 coats of matt black and then 2 coats of lacquer and they will look awesome or instead of the matt black you can do the matt white and then lacquer. Trust me. Also don't forget to seal the 2 ports too on the back of the speaker. And you should put some foam on the walls inside the speaker.
I used to use 6 1/2" radio shack woofers in the doors of my old Ford Pinto with piezo tweeters mounted on the A pillars. Also used 8" woofers in two 3 way cabinets I built to fit in the cargo area. Driven by a 50w per channel for front and a 100w for the rears . This was in 1981 before the big car stereo craze.
Haha, I downloaded "On My Way" to listen to only the other day (I know it from a much older video) - what a coincidence :-P What's the second track called...? Also nice video and builds!
@@knowclue9401 wdym? with ports you get way more bass compared to a sealed. Especially when it comes to tiny drivers like these. sealing them just make em power hungry and probably doesn't drop beloe like 60 - 70 Hz...

Appreciate it, glad it does!
I'm still impressed with the quality of these drivers, nice looking box by the way.

There needs to be a full write-up posted, with the crossover schematic, cabinet drawings, and measured frequency response.
Most speaker channels are actually woodwork channels.

About to build the Dinas And your build videos have helped out a huge amount with planning and ideas on mounting and getting them just right.
should pack some dampening inside the case and port them, will increase power efficiency and output. really nice job those turned out beautifully.
The ported design will be on my channel soon

Great Video as always! I can't wait to see the Eso7's and the room reveal. That's going to be Epic! Really glad you're enjoying the sound.
Brilliant build watching since you started
You should do an excursion vid on these!
Love the way you used your finger to protect the driver when screw in!
Half way through a C-Note build. Can't imagine anything sounding better.
c-notes sound DAMN good for what they are!!
Nice job mate and from a fellow Aussie too ;-) Nice cuts on the wood and a good length video too.
Aww man he’s back!
Hopefully I can keep it this way!

I wonder if he took into account the baffle step compensation in the crossover design.

There's a gasket already on the woofers, so no need to add anything else there.

Where can I buy the crossover parts and is there a video on how to assemble them.

did you make your own anplifier for the speaker? , where can i find how to makr a good one?

and this video is endorsed by IRWIN lol, i dont think you have enough clamps XD. great video!
I wish it was! The more the better ;)
i have 2 of theese in my car doors , they re not really car drivers , but they sound real good
You can make these sound good in proper doors, most home speakers play in doors with no problems, you just need a lot of space.

Dampaning the inside of the speaker??
Hi bro what are the dimensions of the box
Sort of look like c-notes, but obviously they use a peerless tweeter and the higher end Dayton, and have no port due to being surround rears.
What are the dimensions on this speaker build

Would've liked to see a mounting mechanism for the crossovers so you don't need to use hot glue. But otherwise, these are looking fantastic!
