I had the pleasure of meeting Seth outside Lost Horizon in Syracuse, which is kinda close to his hometown. Super chill guy. Got to geek out about gear for a minute. Awesome live show, would totally recommend catching Com Truise!
Sat down with Seth before a show he had in Lisbon. Asked him a few questions. Chill approachable guy, talked to me like I knew what he meant regarding music production which I liked haha.
Such a simple, satiering setup. You would think with the perplexity of someone’s sound like com truise his setup would be excessively in depth. But it’s relatively simple and raw which is even more surprising.
I very much appreciate your music Seth. It brings peace and excitement in my life, and I definitely need that. Keep doing what you’re doing. We’re all diggin it 😀
As he said he use Resolume, is an easy tool, i used before in visuals too. I didnt see her visual but i supose there are geometrikal, simple and retro like her music. When i said simple i mean clean and few instruments, but i love her music.
I’ve always loved electronic music, ever since the days of Duran Duran, Pet Shop Boys, etc.....but sometimes I need to rock. There is a pleasing aggression that weaves throughout his music, its not over the top like dubstep, just the right amount that keeps my head bopping, occasional fist pumping, and dancing while I do the dishes. The OB6 is nice. I use a Rev2 as my main board. Sequential stuff is the right amount of pro and amateur at the same time. Not too pricey, but great interfaces. Hope I get to see him live one day.
Huge Com Truise fan, and the "Synthwave" underground scene. I read that you used to produce Drum n Bass, just curious what was your psoudonym, and where to look to give that material a listen to...
Seems like a very nice guy. My question is just how much actually playing happens in his show? Is it mainly just playback of various prerecorded tracks?
Well, first of all he plays the synth over his tracks and the actual tracks are not pre recorded but are midi signals sent either to ableton synths or to an external synth. Then they are filtered live to add some accent or create subtle changes in the song. I don't know what you consider "playing" but I would say that for a one man band there is a lot of playing on stage! Also he mentionned that on stage he was trying to go as much as possible away from the songs of the album while keeping the spirit of it. That means that he allows himself to go towards some improvisation.
So should he play the keys, change the synth patches, work the mixer, and trigger clips and FX all simultaneously?? This guy is trying to make a living. Nobody pays for music anymore. If he hires other people to do everything else while he plays just ONE synth line in each song, then he’s going home with 50% or less of the money. Why would he do that? So you’re saying is he plays one synth line from each track, and sequences everything else, then he’s somehow a better performer? I’m trying to understand here...
Have you ever produced music in Ableton Live? Seth brings all of his sequences from his albums in Ableton, which are triggered by the APC Live pads. Those are all note sequences that he triggers, has programmed, and changes on the fly. The OB6 is there for him to play the synth lines which he has turned off. The Elektron Digitakt is there for him to add percussion fills and accents. If you are comparing Com Truise to a DJ, you don't know anything about him.
Love his music, but his shows are rather boring. Who wants to see someone twiddle knobs for 2 hours? I saw him tour with a drummer about 5 years ago, and that drummer was really good. Most interesting thing about the show.
Plenty of people will watch a synth musician perform live. I'd take that over watching some phony DJ pumps their fists in the air and stand on the turntables or a boring rock show with a guitarist, bass player, vocalist and a drummer.
I twiddle knobs live. It's one of those things where you could be doing a shit ton of work, or you could literally just press a button and play a track while you drink a beer. It's up to the performer to decide how involved they want to be. I love it :)
Com Truise changed my life.
he pushed me into the synths, and synths pushed me into the drone/ambient, I enjoy the inspiration and outcome the same
Hearing his music live is a whole different experience 🔥🔥🔥
true, lucky me I got to see him live :)
I hugged this guy before he did a set in London, his music is amazing!!

this is such an honor to get this rundown, i have so much respect for this guys music.
The song propagation is epic.
You're right. For me it is one of the best songs I've heard in 25 years of Electronic music❤️
I'm a bartender, and I think I served this man a beer. I was going to ask if he was Com Truise, but I felt awkward about it.
Sounds like a very Com Truise thing to happen
Missed your chance
u missed ur destiny
@@tricatmeows so true

I very much appreciate your music Seth. It brings peace and excitement in my life, and I definitely need that. Keep doing what you’re doing. We’re all diggin it 😀
a genius of our time! How he juggles viz and live perf at the same time, I dont know.
Are you referring to Seth or his computer?
As he said he use Resolume, is an easy tool, i used before in visuals too. I didnt see her visual but i supose there are geometrikal, simple and retro like her music. When i said simple i mean clean and few instruments, but i love her music.
ComTruise is on my list of 5 projects that best exploit experimentalism

What an honor as a musician to be interviewed by SOS. Good for you bro!
he is brilliant
He seems like such a chilled guy, loves how he starts talking about the sturdiness of his equipment.
Here, Seth is explaining how he is such a God.
Saw him live last summer, a lot of fun
Wait so this man’s out here doin his own visuals while performing? That’s wild haha damn
Saw CT live twice in Colorado, dude ripped it up both times and I had a blast! Thanks buddy ✌🏼

Damn i want to see him work...
Anyone know what year MacBook that is?
Come to India, Com.
If Com Truise had Grindr he would be very popular. Just saying
😂😂 he’s a handsome bear for sure
Hahahahaha, hilarious! I'm not gay, but he is a bear for sure.
I'm particularly glad he's not that popular. Popular musicians tend to suck cock.
Ugh.
He'd definitely get some on Scruff
Hey electronic musicians, take note of this and actually fucking PLAY LIVE. I can hit play at home.
Is that inside 1st Ave Minneapolis?
Fine Line. I was at that show
Skanilla vy

Super sad you chose to cancel on the memphis show
check the tour dates and he is not on tour.
Futureworld
I enjoy his music, but damn the way he breathes before he talks is wierd.

Sum Chot
So damn nervous! He needs a drink-
But hes not playing the synths though live. (their just for show surely). Even DeadMau5 presses the play button on the iPod

I do. I want to see him twiddle knobs for two hours. Ya knob..
I've paid good money to watch people tweet knobs
Yeah, that's the main problem with "live" electronic music in general. Visually typically very boring.

Bs for peeps who dont kwow how too sythwewave...
A.K...Me....lol
In other words it's amazing, shut up!
I hate him just for that name.
Decent musician, but in this clip his voice seems tired and monotonous.
Sounds even shittier than I expected
