Very nice idea. I have a couple of suggestions for a new version:
    1) Use the balance lead so that it doesn't need to guess about the cell count - This also means that it can judge the charge state on the lowest cell rather than the pack voltage.
    2) When the cell voltage gets extremely low, pulse the output voltage between say 8.4v and 7.5V, that will make the battery gauge in the goggles "flash" which should really bring it to your attention.
    3) I don't know if you're already doing this, but make sure that there's a minimum output voltage which it can't go lower than so that you don't get a goggles "brown-out".

+1 for DIP switches! 😉 I’ll buy one of these and try the beeps, although I think I prefer to be able to look at a few LEDs. A voltage readout might be nice, if you can get a tiny segmented display.

The DJI Fpv goggles only go down to 7.4v, whereas this cable goes down to 6.2v. That leaves a lot of unused capacity especially if you have li ion packs. I wanted this product to exist so much about a year ago, glad you guys made it!!
Please either make a 3s/4s output range one or make output configurable.
Id totally go for little dip switches to set input and output ranges.

I bought the one mentioned in the video by TBS like 2 months ago lol, I've been so happy with it and it actually does have an LED indicator on it, green is basically full, green and red is mid, and red is low, doesn't beep for a warning tho. Very cool to see a more feature packed version now available!

What would be nice with this product is if it had 6 LED lights on the connector and 1 tiny button which allows the user to select how many cells there are. Pressing the button would cycle through the LED lights/number of cells you will be using which would take the guess work out of the goggles if it's using a 5 or 6s battery.

it would be better to list the cell count as binary with 3 LED's. That's what some smart dischargers do. It works well.
      001 : 1
      010 : 2
      011 : 3
      100 : 4

After crashing and badly damaging a 7 inch long range quad I just finished building because I didn't check my goggle pack voltage before flying, I just put my pre-order in for this! I don't run in to this problem very often, since I have a few 2S and 3S packs just for goggle use, but having the output voltage scaled down based on input voltage going down is a great idea. $15 isn't bad at all. Thanks JB and NBD!

This looks really nice! I've been using the USB-chargeable Fatshark batteries for a while for ease of use, and it seems like they've started holding less and less charge lately. Glad to see a good alternative adapter that takes 6S. Does the adapter board itself give a low battery warning when the pack is getting low, or does it leave it up to the goggles to start chirping? Depending on how well this works I wouldn't mind paying a few extra bucks for a premium version.

It’s probably been mentioned in the comments but I’m not going to dig through them all, but now with hdzero/Sharkbyte vrx’s, wouldn’t this cable be better if it had two output connectors? I have skyzone o4x and Sharkbyte VRX and the dual output cable that came with the Sharkbyte is crap, I can hook a 4S or 6S to it and the screen goes blank (shuts off) after flying one or two packs. The xt60 end is warm and I assume it’s a bad regulator. I don’t want to use two cables and two batteries if I don’t have to. Should I try a new Sharkbyte cable and hope it works better?

Great product. The only thing I still have that takes 2s that I would need something like this for is my Radiomaster Zorro, and that takes a balance lead input or usb-C. These days there are a lot of things that take usbc in for power. Is there something like this that could output usbC? Or 2s balance lead? I don't know if any safe converters exist for that...
I always have anxiety over my controller battery more than anything.

Could it also make sense to create a Step-Up booster to boost a 1cell like 18650 to 2s voltage? (Or do the LiIons cells get overwhelmed by the drawed current?)
I had a little 1s plane where I liked the simplicity that 1s systems and these hub-chargers come with - so one could use these 18650-single-chargers

  • @redacted1946

I use an old 3s 1500mah pack and it actually straps on the goggles itself. And i soldered my own regulator cable to step the 3s voltage to a steady 12v and also with a "balance" lead for the fan. To deal with the issue of potentially overdischarging it i use one of those cheap cell checkers that can be programmed to beep at a 3.8v or something and have that plugged into the pack and keep it velcroed to the side. Work's great and stays all attached to the goggle strap. Since the actual pack itself is a lipo i charge it like all my others but don't have to worry about storage voltage and stuff since it isn't going to see any flight anymore. It also lasts forever I've never actually had it run out on me but the beeping cell checker is nice peace of mind.

I need to do this because my goggles don't give me any idea when it's low . It does shut off before it drains the battery to much but that's just the thing .they just shut off and im left flying blind. Idk why skyzone wouldn't give you a warning first.

I built a belt clip that holds 4 18650 batteries using some mouser parts. It lasts a couple months for me (weekend flyer). Even if i get to the field and the batteries are low, i still get a couple hours. Thats perfect for me. If i were a serious all day flier that might not work. Your cable is much lighter than extra 18650 batteries so thats pretty nice. I can see some people getting this just as a backup solution. Neat stuff.

I have been flying with 4 cell LIION packs. I recently got frustrated at the reliability of the ones I was buying and started making my own. On my packs, the power cable goes along the side of the pack under the heat shrink to improve durability. This cable would work with my packs but would not be ideal since LIION cells can discharge lower before being damaged. I have the same issue without a regulator in the cable but what would be ideal for my use would be a cable that had a LIION setting or maybe a voltage warning built into the cable with a consistent voltage output.

Yes, I want one of these. Great idea. Looks to be already sold out though, so I think people like it. I would love a power switch on it, but not like the SYK cable that you have to hold for a set amount of time. I just want to immediately switch it on or off. I own two SYK cables and hardly use them any more because I hate having to hold it to turn it off or on and you never know if you did it long enough because there is no tactile feedback which you need while wearing goggles, and that situation happens a lot at races when you are in a hurry. I would love a version that also works with HDZero with a switch because as much as I love the HDZero cable, I wish I did not have to unplug it to turn off the VRX. Anyway, yes I would also buy a more premium version, especially if it had an instantaneous on/off switch. Actually I would buy at least two and recommend them to everyone.

Also, my IT skills are shite, so this is truly out of curiosity if you're allowed to say, did you and NBD use an algorithm, or code, similar to Betaflight's battery tab, because I've noticed that if I use a fully charged battery when testing voltage or batteries on BF, it thinks I have the next higher cell battery sometimes.

Very nice, and I've been looking for something like this, but a power switch would be the bigger selling point for me. Its both convenient and a more effective way to manage my charge. If I can just quick click the goggles off when I'm not using them I don't even need special features to stay ahead of my rate of battery consumption. You did good with this. I'll probably buy one. But just something to think about for version 2.0. And yes, braided cable too.

  • @saidinesh5

I built one of these with an old 16x16 flight controller (with ripped out pads), led lights and buzzer that came with an old whoop. And a BEC of course. And two switches for dealing with hdzero too.
I've been meaning to upgrade the old USB cable i used to make it to a more fancy braided cable but I'm too lazy. So I'll probably get to it when this cable breaks off.
I was also meaning to write custom code to make it more battery efficient, but the Emuflight/betaflight on the FC is good enough so far.. (Thank you Joshua for the tutorial on how to set up LED strips in betaflight!). I already get low battery alarms and the LED lights change.

This is awesome it makes the goggles thinks it's got a 2S plugged in! Love it!

I'd rather pay more for the extra features, big ones for me are a power switch and Voltage readout mainly why I've stuck with the furious fpv cable but the power button on those is horrible. Would it be better to be able to select the feed Voltage either through an options menu or toggle switch? That way it's on the user to ensure it's setup correctly.

Is this cable made of PVC with the welded seal down the middle?

Really like it, a little readout on the connector like on the Speedybee adapter would be a great idea. But a braided cable version is not very desireable, they tend to be too stiff and get dirty very quick. They only look nice when they are new.

I will definitely be getting one of these but one thing I think would be nice would be to just be able to set it to 6s or 4s and have it remember what you use so that you do not listen for the beeps every time you plug in.

I use the FuriousFPV - Smart Cable V2 for my dji goggles v2. It has screen, beeps when lipo is low, shows voltage, etc. But its 50$ now, and when i bought it, it was 25 or 30 i think. Its very nice but expensive now. Maybe make something like it but with lower price possibly?

Great idea, but like some of the other comments, I also would like to see a more premium version with a digital readout and an on/off power button.

Not stupid at all JB. Those other cables you're talking about, I've never even heard of them. I will buy your cable for sure.

I would use it seriously ! I've been always looking at my DJI FPV v2 goggles ordinary battery to be in a good level to continue and fly but with this I would charge a old batterie pack and I would have more time.without worrying ... At least I could use a xt60 battery not empty I use but some purpose to be a goggles battery !! It gives an alternative or a main plan but either way I love it .

Existe algún adaptador para no depender de Baterías en Goggles dji v2?
