Very nice idea. I have a couple of suggestions for a new version: 1) Use the balance lead so that it doesn't need to guess about the cell count - This also means that it can judge the charge state on the lowest cell rather than the pack voltage. 2) When the cell voltage gets extremely low, pulse the output voltage between say 8.4v and 7.5V, that will make the battery gauge in the goggles "flash" which should really bring it to your attention. 3) I don't know if you're already doing this, but make sure that there's a minimum output voltage which it can't go lower than so that you don't get a goggles "brown-out".
The DJI Fpv goggles only go down to 7.4v, whereas this cable goes down to 6.2v. That leaves a lot of unused capacity especially if you have li ion packs. I wanted this product to exist so much about a year ago, glad you guys made it!! Please either make a 3s/4s output range one or make output configurable. Id totally go for little dip switches to set input and output ranges.
+1 for DIP switches! 😉 I’ll buy one of these and try the beeps, although I think I prefer to be able to look at a few LEDs. A voltage readout might be nice, if you can get a tiny segmented display.
What would be nice with this product is if it had 6 LED lights on the connector and 1 tiny button which allows the user to select how many cells there are. Pressing the button would cycle through the LED lights/number of cells you will be using which would take the guess work out of the goggles if it's using a 5 or 6s battery.
Yeah race day quads already has a battery indicator you can push a button on to test the battery. Why not have what you're talking about on the opposite side?
it would be better to list the cell count as binary with 3 LED's. That's what some smart dischargers do. It works well. 001 : 1 010 : 2 011 : 3 100 : 4 101 : 5 110 : 6
@@kibbycabbit ahh.. Hearing is overrated. 😁 Are you referring to the content to the video or the fact that the pack can blow up on your head? Which most people don't do. I don't do that. Do you do that?😱
After crashing and badly damaging a 7 inch long range quad I just finished building because I didn't check my goggle pack voltage before flying, I just put my pre-order in for this! I don't run in to this problem very often, since I have a few 2S and 3S packs just for goggle use, but having the output voltage scaled down based on input voltage going down is a great idea. $15 isn't bad at all. Thanks JB and NBD!
I bought the one mentioned in the video by TBS like 2 months ago lol, I've been so happy with it and it actually does have an LED indicator on it, green is basically full, green and red is mid, and red is low, doesn't beep for a warning tho. Very cool to see a more feature packed version now available!
I ordered a couple of these - they arrived last week. One of them was DOA, so I contacted NewBeeDrone support. They replaced it immediately, and shipped the replacement the same day. Great support!

I love the idea. Trying to preorder now. Pro version - Braided cable and when it hits a calculated 3.5 v per cell I want to hear your voice say “Abort!” 😂
This is a cool idea. I stopped using the goggle batts years ago. Have a 2000mah 3s pack that sits in my pocket. Makes the goggles much more comfortable to wear, especially at events when you have them on your head all day
ordered this for my new fatsharks!! cant wait to use it!!! in response to the end of the video, it be nice to have a small voltage readout since some of us wouldn't have a voltmeter to check it with?
I use a braided cabel which I ordered from TBS, had to get a color I didn't like but it works. If you had a version with quality braided cable I would definitely upgrade to this one! Thanks again JB, we appreciate all you do for the community!
Pretty smart idea. As for an improved/higher price version, personally I'd like to see a power switch, digital readout, braided cable, and a splitter for hdzero. You could also offer a choice of colors.
Cool power cable. I typically run 2s lipo / Li-ion packs attached to the goggle strap. But if they die I'll switch to a lipo in my pocket. This seems a much better / safer alternative to the power cable I'm using at the moment. Thanks Joshua. 🤓
I power things with a Sky RC B6 Neo in power supply mode with a 4s pack. Then set the low voltage input protection to 14.5v and it turns off automatically. It's a nice little power setup.
I’d be interested if it had a visual indicator of battery state, that’s why I use RDQ goggle batteries. It’s nice to just push a button and see if I need to charge a battery.
Bro….. disappointed that all the good stuff comes out when I’m broke…. Awesome idea and product, definitely gonna snatch me up one soon! Thanks Bardwell!
I use the Furious one and highly recommend this sort of device over the uncomfortable battery pack. I must admit the NewBeeDrone one looks a lot similar and more pleasant without the intermediate power buttons and screen and the price is very attractive.
Last time I used the flight pack with a long cable I walked away with the battery still in my pocket dragging my DJI goggles across the parking lot. To this day I use the supplied pack with my goggles
I just use a regular lipo checker that uses balance plug on the battery. When it starts getting low it will start beeping. No guessing or problems like that. However i do obviously like the idea of having just a single plug in for goggles.
Well it's already sold out. I guess I'll continue using my Syk kable. I like your cable JB, and I would like to see an on/off switch on it, and also in a braided version.
I built a belt clip that holds 4 18650 batteries using some mouser parts. It lasts a couple months for me (weekend flyer). Even if i get to the field and the batteries are low, i still get a couple hours. Thats perfect for me. If i were a serious all day flier that might not work. Your cable is much lighter than extra 18650 batteries so thats pretty nice. I can see some people getting this just as a backup solution. Neat stuff.
I built one of these with an old 16x16 flight controller (with ripped out pads), led lights and buzzer that came with an old whoop. And a BEC of course. And two switches for dealing with hdzero too. I've been meaning to upgrade the old USB cable i used to make it to a more fancy braided cable but I'm too lazy. So I'll probably get to it when this cable breaks off. I was also meaning to write custom code to make it more battery efficient, but the Emuflight/betaflight on the FC is good enough so far.. (Thank you Joshua for the tutorial on how to set up LED strips in betaflight!). I already get low battery alarms and the LED lights change.
I will definitely be getting one of these but one thing I think would be nice would be to just be able to set it to 6s or 4s and have it remember what you use so that you do not listen for the beeps every time you plug in.
I use an old 3s 1500mah pack and it actually straps on the goggles itself. And i soldered my own regulator cable to step the 3s voltage to a steady 12v and also with a "balance" lead for the fan. To deal with the issue of potentially overdischarging it i use one of those cheap cell checkers that can be programmed to beep at a 3.8v or something and have that plugged into the pack and keep it velcroed to the side. Work's great and stays all attached to the goggle strap. Since the actual pack itself is a lipo i charge it like all my others but don't have to worry about storage voltage and stuff since it isn't going to see any flight anymore. It also lasts forever I've never actually had it run out on me but the beeping cell checker is nice peace of mind.
I need to do this because my goggles don't give me any idea when it's low . It does shut off before it drains the battery to much but that's just the thing .they just shut off and im left flying blind. Idk why skyzone wouldn't give you a warning first.
Genius in its simplicity. I wouldn't change anything about it. Obviously I don't have one in hand yet but seems to be a perfect solution to me. 👊 I'm personally not a fan of braided cables, I want the cable to be as flexible as possible.
Have you seen the SpeedyBee Goggles BEC? It has a built in monitor to track the battery charge. Well, will not be useful while you fly but between the flights you can check the battery.
Fantastic idea. I'm going to buy one now! I'd love to see a shorty version so I could keep the batt on my head strap. In fact, the shorty version could also just be in-line for my current long cable for that option too. Edit: Seems like the Pre-Order button does nothing at this time.
I have been flying with 4 cell LIION packs. I recently got frustrated at the reliability of the ones I was buying and started making my own. On my packs, the power cable goes along the side of the pack under the heat shrink to improve durability. This cable would work with my packs but would not be ideal since LIION cells can discharge lower before being damaged. I have the same issue without a regulator in the cable but what would be ideal for my use would be a cable that had a LIION setting or maybe a voltage warning built into the cable with a consistent voltage output.
Great idea! I made one by 3D printing a box with my FPV logo cutout and LEDs behind it so it glows through. Its pretty cool but it doesn’t have that smart conversion feature. I was going to include a LED indicator for battery level and a USB power port
I love the idea! The only thing holding me back from using lipos is the lack of a low voltage warning. I'd love to see an (internationally available) HDZero version, with two DC outputs. There's no available replacement for their original balance to DC adapter, so at this point I'm trying to learn to crimp my own for when it breaks. Your cable would be a great alternative.
This is great. I don't have any 2s packs, but I'd sure like to use my 6s packs to charge my zorro! This cable makes the zorro an even better option for people worried about the battery lifetime
Hey JB - pimp this idea as hard as you can! Braided cable. LCD voltage input/output readout. Low voltage alarm warning beep. Question: Is it taking the battery voltage and turning the excess voltage into heat like a traditional BEC? If so, does it get hot? Or is it using the Mr Steele style "cascading BEC" which doesn't waste voltage as heat?
Awesome product/idea. Add more features like read out displays on both ends for in and out voltage readings. Also braided and short cable options. I will buy it, even if 30 40 bucks if it has all the nice features. Would be cool if you could configure input voltage to what ever you want. So add a buck/booster in between with readings on both ends. Add different connector option on both ends as well and then you really have a cool product that can be used multiple ways.
This looks really nice! I've been using the USB-chargeable Fatshark batteries for a while for ease of use, and it seems like they've started holding less and less charge lately. Glad to see a good alternative adapter that takes 6S. Does the adapter board itself give a low battery warning when the pack is getting low, or does it leave it up to the goggles to start chirping? Depending on how well this works I wouldn't mind paying a few extra bucks for a premium version.
I love it. I use my HdZero power cable even when I'm flying analog. If you do fixed output make it so the balance plug is used to give a low battery warning like the Lipo alarms that you had to use before RC car ESCs had low voltage cutoff.🥳
Great video, and product, I definitely think it's worth that price, especially if it's as durable as it looks, I might have to pick one up. What gauge wire did you end up going with? Also, my IT skills are shite, so this is truly out of curiosity if you're allowed to say, did you and NBD use an algorithm, or code, similar to Betaflight's battery tab, because I've noticed that if I use a fully charged battery when testing voltage or batteries on BF, it thinks I have the next higher cell battery sometimes.
The main thing I want is it to go to two barrel connectors cuz I fly Hdzero but I can do that a voltage readout would be interesting I think for my own sanity I'm just going to strap a lipo checker onto it to make sure it's reading the right cell voltage and an on-off switch could be useful but I don't think it's necessary
Great work, this is something I've needed for aaaages! I have a suggestion - if it does 3S to 6S, that's only four different options. One RGB LED, red for 3S, green for 4S, blue for 5S, white for 6S. Even if one of the LED elements fails, you should still be able to interpret the voltage is correct at a glance. Plus if it beeps, you should probably have a switchable low voltage threshold for LiPo/Li-Ion. Also, make a model in the format of an XT60 female to male little inline module, so it just goes inline and lets you use your own cable (like SYK if that's what floats your boat). That keeps it compatible if new goggles come out with different goggle connectors than the standard barrel plug (looking at you DJI).
Sold out, I guess they like it. I will buy one when they come back in stock. Having this flexibility not to have yet another special pack to charge will be great, and always having a pack on hand to run my goggles if it has an XT60; ya it's a great idea.
Great thing. I would love to have a led indicator of cell count detected. No irritating beeping. Maybe red green blue 3 stage charge state status, but optional. Maybe 18usd with these futures?
What I usually do is to keep the battery tester connected to the pins of the individual cells of my battery pack that I connect to my goggles. I always have it with me when I fly: ISDT bg-8S (for 30$ or less) It can set an alarm when it goes below specified voltage.
what a neat and genius idea! I don`t like to keep LiPo in the pocket because I hate cables, so I strap a 4s1500 to the back of my head to counterbalance the weight of my DJI V1 and have made myself a short XT60 to Barrel cable. I fly 6s and inability to use 6s is well annoying. I`m not in US so can`t pick this cable right away, but I will if some locar vendor ever gets them in their stock. I would have to cut it and make it short straight away though 😆
I still have a Syk battery cable that I use for my DJI a goggles and a Li-ion/LiPo - works great and I like that it’s 2-pieces because I zip tied the plug to my gear goggle strap anchor so it cannot be unplugged by accident.
I'd rather pay more for the extra features, big ones for me are a power switch and Voltage readout mainly why I've stuck with the furious fpv cable but the power button on those is horrible. Would it be better to be able to select the feed Voltage either through an options menu or toggle switch? That way it's on the user to ensure it's setup correctly.
Audio beeps are a neat idea, but I think an on-demand LED-based system would work better, perhaps even slightly more cost-effective per unit? The Vifly Store Safe uses binary to list the cell count, I think something along those lines would be great as a way to tell the power cable is working and properly recognizes your pack, with little digits imprinted onto the outer plastic or onto the breadboard to label each LED. Not to mention it would likely be more accessible for hard-of-hearing or deaf people. Very cool product though. If I had more than a couple 4S batteries to my name, I'd use this all day.
Wow these are great but I wouldn't worry about braided cable. I myself I'm not a fan of that but I do like a good quality silicone cable, soft and durable and pliable
Really like it, a little readout on the connector like on the Speedybee adapter would be a great idea. But a braided cable version is not very desireable, they tend to be too stiff and get dirty very quick. They only look nice when they are new.
I think it would be smart to have a place to plug in the balance lead to detect cell count vs relying on input voltage to determine that! Also i assume HV batts would potentially read as the wrong cell count especially 4s and 5s? Maybe put a dipswitch or something to select HV so it knows to expect a different voltage and scale it appropriately? Super rad product though!
Looks pretty sweet! I've been using the newbeedrone USB-C to barrel cable with a 10400mah fast charging PD power bank on my DJI V2's that's the same dimensions as a fatshark battery. Works great at 12v output and lasts about 4 hrs.
@@ddegn its bulkier. not like it will give you cancer :) and as I stated above that cable is pre made for laptops so thicker wires and insulation than needed. ( 02:07 I can see it's rated for 300V)
Because I have rc crawlers, I have huge 2s and 3s batteries, so I dismantled the tbs cable’s regulator because the touch power switch was junk, and it goes straight through. It works really well. I like this because it takes out guess work even if I use a 6s. I would buy a braided version. $15 is a great deal in today’s market.
Very nice idea. I have a couple of suggestions for a new version:
1) Use the balance lead so that it doesn't need to guess about the cell count - This also means that it can judge the charge state on the lowest cell rather than the pack voltage.

WELL DONE!! Great solution.. Just bought two. One for each of my FS HDO2s Thank you! -John
You can get a 5.5mm barrel jack Y-splitter. As long as total draw is under 2 amps, the cable can handle it.
@@JoshuaBardwell But then it has a weird kink in it because of the 90° connector
Thanks Joshua, I just ordered one to try out
Great work, this is something I've needed for aaaages!
Hmmm i like this. The cord that came with my hd-zero literally worked once and my 18650 fatshark case has bad barrel wiring.
ON/OFF switch!!
This is a GREAT product!! I will be getting one
Love the proportional output, but needs to have a selector for the goggle's cutoff point (I e. DJI 7.4 vs FS 6.4)
I always have it with me when I fly: ISDT bg-8S (for 30$ or less)
It can set an alarm when it goes below specified voltage.
Thats what I need. I get no warning with my skyzones
what a neat and genius idea!
I am still using the first and only pair of goggles I own. SkyZone 03O'S. I use a 4s 2200 pack from a plane and it lasts forever.
I would buy 2 premium with a voltage reading in and out today if they are available. As it is I am going to pick up one of these
@ould be great to have On/Off button, Voltage readout and low voltage rapid beeps at about $25-30. Looking forward to it!
Great idea! I ordered 3 for my goggles!
I really like this, braided with an additional barrel connector for hdzero vrx would be great too.
This is a great idea hopefully one day you will make a splitter for HD zero
cool idea. I'd like to see an on/off button.
Will wait for the braided cable version!!!
Looks pretty sweet! I've been using the newbeedrone USB-C to barrel cable with a 10400mah fast charging PD power bank on my DJI V2's that's the same dimensions as a fatshark battery. Works great at 12v output and lasts about 4 hrs.
Great idea
I'll be buying my goggles in a few months, I'll grab this too! Bitly link saved for that purchase. ✌️
It's a good product . The cylinder part near the barrel jack ( Ferrite bead i guess) is kinda bad as it can touch your face
this!
But it also helps filtering the output of the regulator, so...
@@MCsCreations I believe it exists because they used pre made barrel jack cable for laptops.
What is bad about the ferrite bead touching your face? Would the bead touching your face be worse than the wire?
@@ddegn its bulkier. not like it will give you cancer :) and as I stated above that cable is pre made for laptops so thicker wires and insulation than needed. ( 02:07 I can see it's rated for 300V)
Because I have rc crawlers, I have huge 2s and 3s batteries, so I dismantled the tbs cable’s regulator because the touch power switch was junk, and it goes straight through. It works really well. I like this because it takes out guess work even if I use a 6s. I would buy a braided version. $15 is a great deal in today’s market.
For real this is a awesome tool to have and thank you for trying to make fpv easier for us! Definitely picking one of these up💯
