- What is CHARDONNAY - Everything you need to know about this popular grape
Chardonnay is a green-skinned grape variety used in the production of white wine. The variety originated in the Burgundy wine region of eastern France, but is now grown wherever wine is produced, from England to New Zealand. For new and developing wine regions, growing Chardonnay is seen as a ‘rite of passage’ and an easy entry into the international wine market.
The Chardonnay grape itself is neutral, with many of the flavors commonly associated with the wine being derived from such influences as terroir and oak. It is vinified in many different styles and Chardonnay wine tends to be medium to light body with noticeable acidity and flavors of green plum, apple, and pear. In warmer locations the flavors become more citrus, peach, and melon, while in very warm locations more tropical fruit notes such as banana and mango come out. Wines that have gone through malolactic fermentation tend to have softer acidity and fruit flavors with buttery mouthfeel and hazelnut notes.
Chardonnay is an important component of many sparkling wines around the world, including Champagne

Thanks for this channel. It's really helping my crash course on wines
You're welcome
I'm so glad that I found this channel. I have been using it to help study for not only m WSET classes but the rest of my Sommelier classes.
Awww thanks. That's great. Cheers
What a great, simple and compiled information you are sharing here! Thank you!
Love that channel and love the information. Chardonnay is a hard variety to narrow down. Every region does it different and every winemaker adds their own twist.
YES. Completely agree. So hard to choose one to drink today as they are so different
You are phenomenal. I learn so much from you. Many thanks!!!
I appreciate that!
I made a cheap Solomon Grundy kit of it and you know what... it's pretty good! It has a slightly bitter kick to it, that vanishes quickly after drinking it. Started at 1.126 SG ended at 1.004 SG so it's 16.3% ABV. That's way stronger than it's meant to be but that's how I make it 🙂
Nice one. Pretty strong 😂
I’m studying for my WSET Level 2s and your videos are everything to me right now 🥂Thank you
I had that chardonnay a few weeks ago. Very nice. Great bid as always.
I loved it. Really enjoyable
Informative introduction to subtle characteristics of wine. I tend to just drink and say mmmmmmm.
I like chardonnays. I usually prefer hard liquor as my go-to drink. i find wine to be too sour or too sweet for my taste. But chardonnay is just right for my liking 😁
Nice.
My favorite 👍 thank you for sharing.
You're welcome
Great overview
Cheers
for me chardonnay from chile grand reserva (toro di piedra) was totally new experience. expecially for the autumn i really look for warm, full white wines. The one as I call it with a sauna nose :)
Thanks for watching.
I felt like I was tasting that Chardonnay. Love your videos. How about sesssions on Vouvray and Viognier?
I have a video on Viognier if you want to check that one out.
I bought some Liberty Creek today. It's pretty good.
Enjoy!!!
Chardonnay have different characteristics as you mentioned but it's all depends on terroir. I like your presentation very informative. Can you please make a presentation about wine faults. Thanks
You must be reading my mind. I have a Wine Faults video out this week. Cheers
@@TheGrapeExplorer Looking forward. Thanks
Once I heard an old man saying "White Wine?? Good stuff, Good stuff!!"
Any chance of a Verdejo video anytime soon? You do a great job of covering the varietals!
Yes. I am working my way through quite a few, but keen not to overload anyone (or myself) so I enjoy making one of these every couple of weeks. Thanks for the suggestion
On the note of clones, it's worth mentioning Wente in Livermore, California. Their Morning Fog Chardonnay is inexpensive, widely distributed, and it's a great bottle. However they're far more famous for their 1912 Wente clone, which was the original genetic material for 80% of modern Chardonnay plantings in the US. The most commonly used Chardonnay clone in California, FPS 04, was directly derived from their original clone. Very few existent vineyards have been quite so influential.
Thanks for sharing this great information
Morning Fog is a best seller in a wine bar where i work. It was an eye openeing experiance for me as a begginer. Of course taste changes with a time and tastings but it is definitely worth to try! Still looking for more of those "warm" and cozy white wines. As i mentioned before in a comment about a chille one.
What glasses are you using?
Nothing fancy. I picked these up at a local store. Made by a German company called Revolution
Someday, not any day soon, mind you, but someday I'd like to try a $2k bottle of wine to be able to compare it to my everyday and weekend bottles. To be able to answer that illusive question: is it worth it??
£2k is a lot for a bottle. There are going to have to be some very dramatic changes in my life for that to happen.
I have tried a $200 bottle of Pinot Noir. Hate to admit it, but was so much better that the less expensive bottle from same winery. Would do it again but only for real special occasion.
@@billpalmer6481 wow. The most I ever spent on wine was Bordeaux £90. This was three years ago and I still.have buyer remorse haha
@@billpalmer6481 Hmmm - I can see trying a bottle for a couple hundred, but not the 4-digit bottles. That'd be a 1x lifetime kinda bucket list.
@@montereymamacita Definitely not an everyday thing! But I would recommend at least once trying something like that. Very memorable
Hi everyone. Who is a big fan of Chardonnay. What do you recommend
