They're both a-holes. Really I don't think there is a hero. The only true victim is Ally. I think that's why she has to move to Chicago, change her name and start babysitting. Both those guys were total stalkers.

But Daniel's father was the one that was responsible for the death of Miyagi's wife and daughter so that gets us back to the true villain...Hitler. Wait, what are we talking about again? Hey Jerry - can you run back the script of this and see if there are any Hitler references?
I think it can be said the Hitler is the villain in any movie that takes place after 1933. And I just Googled 'karate kid hitler' and holy shit internet, that is way too many results
There was a cut scene that showed the computer company that Daniel's mom was supposed to work for had gone belly up. That is why she was talking to him about working at the restaurant.

@@greatest_bumble_bee_dude, they want to both keep us shacked up trying to hide from the outbreak and sitting on our hands waiting to find out how Miguel pulls through, what happens when Johnny responds to Ali, will he really be finished with Cobra Kai for good letting Kreese have it, does Daniel quit Miyagi-do or stay with it therefore hurting his marriage with Amanda and then getting himself cozy with Ali which will spark off yet another beef with Johnny, etc.etc. My guess is that Johnny will go back to Cobra Kai, Daniel will not close Miyagi-do, he will put things on the rocks with Amanda, and will hook up with Ali because the series would be over if both Daniel's rivalry with Johnny and both of them running karate dojos is taken out of the picture. Then again, maybe Terry and/or Mike Barnes will return and Daniel and Johnny will team up. And I hope that Ali gets with Johnny and not Daniel. Daniel's married, and Johnny just lost Carmen, let Johnny have Ali this time. But, we're going to keep waiting here for who knows how long to find any of this out, thanks Mr. Corona.

Has anybody else ever wondered how Johnny has a black eye after the fight with Miyagi when Miyagi never hit him in the face?
I've had a black eye from falling down 2 stairs and landing on my face. So if the ground was uneven it could give him a bad eye.

Yeah ref tells Johnny contact to the face is illegal, then says Daniel wins after kicking Johnny in the face.
The novelization actually had the confrontation in the parking lot as an epilogue. Which started the second movie.
Brett Reiselt Not saying this applies here or was ever even explained properly but in a lot of Karate/Taekwondo tournaments kicks are the only type of face contact you can make.

No, Mike Barns who was Daniel's opponent in KK 3 kicked Jessica in her stomach. Daniel really liked her but she only considered him as a friend. Jessica was athletic and strong and could win many fights but not against Mike. I read the question wrong.

So Bobby gets immediately DQ'd for doing some jump kick halfway across the mat that catches Daniel in the knee but Johnny can intentionally elbow him in that same knee and that is just a do-over? I totally think it's a knee injury not a broken leg but that isn't really the point.

Daniel being stupid caused him to get beat up that time, not that the ones who beat him up were justified. Had Daniel done nothing and minded his own business, that beating wouldn't have taken place.

PM-RS-NBA Life Actually, there were scenes originally meant for the film that would’ve set up Daniel change. I think the filmmakers intended for Daniel to be a dick at the beginning, and show his change in scenes like one where Johnny places a piece of pie on Daniel seat and antagonize him afterward. It would’ve shown both as jerks who change in the end, with Daniel finding inner peace and Johnny learning to move on now in Cobra Kai.

You might have missed the part where Daniel's mom mentions the computer company went bankrupt. Also, you can make an argument Ali is the villain here. She flirts with Daniel knowing very well Johnny frequents that beach and very well might see. Daniel humiliates Johnny at the All Valley Tournament... then she ditches Daniel for some UCLA Quarterback (See KK2).
Cobra Kai teases that she may come back in season 3. I hope the series continues its tradition of deconstructing these characters and reveals Ali to be more in line with that interpretation.

To be fair Ali doesn't owe Johnny any favors, she can date who she wants and it's ultimately no one's business but hers. That being said ditching Daniel was a dick move, but people grow apart in long distance relationships and not a lot of people stay with who they were with in high school. I think Cobra Kai, should they bring Ali back, will stick too it's core theme, no one's really a "villain", we're all just people trying our best to never let anything keep us down...

Ali broke up with Johnny, so she can flirt with whomever she wants. And if Johnny was really bent on changing his ways, he wouldn't have flipped out so easily. Ali told him emphatically: "Why don't you take your little Cobra Kais and get out of here!" It wasn't a question. The Party of Five was trespassing on a private party. Oh, and Ali was going to jump in and help, but Dutch was physically restraining her.
Danny shouldn't have intervened unless johnny started grabbing allison or something like that - it was clearly a punk move ; however, johnny rolling up his sleeves and saying c'mon instead of putting his hands up and passively ending the fight was also a punk move
Also : there must have been pretty good reason for alice to say : why do you always have to fight at the end of the beach conflict when danny was knocked down though, who really knows what johnny was planning while taunting danny while he was on the sand with a sore stomache - johnny could have been planning to stomp on danny for all anyone knows though, it's less likely

To be fair, Larusso didn’t learn the first time and kept pushing the envelope instead of just dropping it, which led him to get picked on even more.

I always found it funny how they were 2 for 2 but Johnny didn’t get the point cause face contact is forbidden but Daniel gets it for a headkick?
Hand to face contact is forbidden in that type of karate. But the Crane Technique is considered a "jump, snap-kick". Pat E. Johnson, a tenth degree blackbelt (and stunt coordinator/karate trainer) helped choreograph every move the actors did, and probably wouldn't allow an illegal kick. If you look at the fight sequence, Dutch nailed Daniel in the face with a roundhouse kick and got a point. Not much difference, from my point of view.

Well it's motivated me to watch it again. The theory vid floating around makes a compelling argument that he was the bully, but in the new series he looks like an ahole. Maybe they team up and he invests in the KK dojo.
I watched Karate Kid 2 and 3 this week and 3 would've been amazing if Daniel and Johnny would've teamed up to take down the new owner of Cobra Kai...or if they would've taken literally any other direction with it.
You had to have 2 just for Peter Cetera, 3 goes back to the roots, but was it too little too late? Oh and nice call out on his mom's job, after 34 years never caught that.
After I recorded it I read that the script said that once Daniel and his mom got to California Rocket Computers went bankrupt. Seems like a weird subplot to even remotely focus on.

I think what might have happened is that the computer company she was planning on working with doing basic data entry went bankrupt so basically mother larusso had to move on as she was already residing in the area

If you look carefully Miyagi never punched him in the face. What I saw was bunch of blocks then he flips him over onto the ground then Karate chop his body....no evidence of getting punched or kicked in the face!

It's kinda hard to sympathize with Danieru-san when he went and provoked Johnny by dousing him with water when he was in a cubicle rolling a joint. If someone did that to me I'd be angry enough to wanna beat the shit out of them. Y'know, when Ali kicks the ball away on the beach it almost comes off as a "brush off" kind of move. She also sort of rolls her eyes like "why won't this dork just leave me alone?". Daniel's persistence pays off eventually but he would have been better off just to move on.
She kicked the soccer ball ⚽ away mainly because she didn't want the whole cobra 🐍 kai karate group to set on him
She rolled her eyes at the beach as the cobras 🐍 🐍 🐍 🐍 🐍 as she got sick of them using their martial arts skills to solve their problems though, if I was in danny's position : I wouldn't have gotten involved in johnny and allisons beach argument between the pair unless of course johnny started getting physical and started grabbing allison or something like that

Daniel beat black belts in the tournament with minimal training. Either Mr. Miagi was a great teacher, or the other teachers in town sucked.

Karate Kid was released in June of '84 and Revenge of the Nerds came out a month later in July. 1984 was the best year for movies.

I don't know...could Daniel, maybe, have told him? Not everything that occurs over the course of a film is always shown taking place as it isn't necessary for the audience to witness flat-out everything. Think of what would wind up in films that we would never wish to witness and how absurd their length would be if such things were included!

I always thought that Danny was lying about his mum's new job as he was embarrassed that she was a waitress; hence the kid saying he'd never heard of Rocket Computers. Danny was always embarrassed about their lack of social standing and wealth, his reaction to their car is a good example.

the thing is if you watch the beach scene again. Ali was being the jackass. Johnny said several times he just wanted to talk to her and she kept antagonizing him with the radio. In fact the last time before Johnny smashes the radio she promised to talk to him then turns the radio up loud drowning him out.
I'm not saying he should have smashed the radio and acted the fool, but i understand why.
How did she antagonize Johnny with the radio? She had no obligation to talk to him and Johnny taking it from her was theft. She shouldn't have had to "promise" to talk to him.

Acting like a spoiled brat and turning the radio up loud when someone wants to talk to you is plain rude. Be an adult and hash out what you got to hash out. not talking to someone is cowardice.
