Karate Kid Part 2 takes all the kid karate action to Okinawa so that Mr. Miyagi can settle a 50 year old blood feud. It's um...not as cool as it sounds. Daniel also gets his own blood feud at the end and it's alright.

Which move do you think would be the easiest to counter: The Crane Kick or The Drum Technique?
I would say the Crane Kick. Its telegraphed and all you have to do is just step out of the way or block it like it was done in this flick. Plus Miyagi said in the first flick "If done right no can defense" Clearly Daniel can't do it right.
Yeah, you don't really want to rely on a move that can be thwarted by a stutter step.
If it is so indefensible as Miyagi says it was, perhaps Miyagi is a sh!!ty teacher. I mean painting the fence, waxing cars, and doing the twist are the modern training techniques right?
Blasphemy! Miyagi was 1 for 1 taking a student with virtually no karate experience (except for a few classes at the Y and a kick he learned from a Jane Fonda VHS) and turning him into the All Valley champion defeating a dominate repeat champion while injured on the way. In case you're not a math guy Will - that's 100%

I agree! She was my favorite love interest for Daniel by far. Shue came off as a bitch at the end (She dumped BOTH Johnny AND Daniel for stupid reasons? I think we all know who the REAL villain/bully of that movie was!) and what's-her-face from the third movie wasn't even a love interest. Daniel's current wife is ok...but Kumiko would have been better.

I don't know why the writers thought that Karate Kid 3 would be "believable" as taking place in 1985, immediately after Karate Kid 2, considering that Ralph Macchio had gained a lot of weight in the 3 years between 1986 and 1989.
Not to mention he fought a death match in 2 yet was somehow intimidated by Johnny Lawrence wannabe Barnes in 3. By 3 Daniel should have been the fucking goat! Lol
There is no "Crane kick" in Karate but there is a thrust kick.
True. I'm no martial arts authority, but I believe the crane kick is most likely a Kung Fu move.
@, huh, I didn't think that the Karate kid franchise would make up martial arts moves. Then again, even if the crane kick hasn't normally ever been a move studied in karate anywhere, including Japan, Okinawa, etc., it may've simply been a move invented in Miyagi-do karate. There have been additional techniques added to the training Miyagi's father taught him and Sato, Miyagi taught Daniel. That may be why Johnny didn't see the crane coming, but Chozen did. Chozen knew the move because Sato (who learned from Miyagi's father) taught it to him.

I like how Daniel became a champion-level black belt in less than six weeks in the first movie but did not improve at all, and even got worse, in the six months leading up to the second movie.

I think chozen refused to go out there in the storm bc he did not want to help daniel. When his uncle tells him he is dead to him he has no problem running out into the raging storm.

So maybe Kreese's "attack" on Johnny was a little over blown. Yes, Tommy and Bobby seem pretty concerned but they were always the more emotional disciples. Check out Dutch at 0:37 on the other side of the car. He's totally laughing like it isn't a big deal. Maybe Miyagi should've minded his own business.
Every group needs a Wild Card like Dutch. They're what make things interesting because they essentially have no emotional attachment to anything. But still, if I was Johnny's dad, Thaddeus Lawrence III, I would at least have my secretary send a strongly worded letter to Sensei Kreese about his behaviour
I think Kreese should totally hold a grudge like Sato and come back for revenge. Maybe even make his hands bleed as payback.

I always thought this movie was very good, as good as the first Karate Kid movie ( minus Kreese's bad acting at the beginning ). Don't know why it only received a 6.1 rating on IMDB.
The music playing on the radio at 3:45 is the same music playing in the restaurant in part 1, when Daniel causes the spaghetti mess in the kitchen.

The only thing I wish Karate Kid 2 went over was some of the stuff that Karate Kid 1 established, which was when he came to America I guess he found a new love and a new wife who died in childbirth. Then it was revealed psych, there's actually a secret lover from even before Karate Kid 1, idk, just a bit weird of a plot for me.
I said the same when I saw the third movie, and saw Yuki was not even in the third movie and has no explanation as to why she is not in the movie. My gues is she went to Japan with Kumiko to help her.
I love the soundtrack in these films; all three have excellent music!

I always assumed that was about making Kreese deal with his life as punishment. But just figured out it was to save his own life by forgiving Kreese.

This movie is tough for me to watch now. It takes itself way too seriously. Part 3 is much more entertaining due to it's over the top goofiness.
Part 3 was fucking shite.
There are so many issues with all of the original karate kid movies.
The one thing I found extremely funny was that Mr miyagi has a fly problem but only in one area of his house.
And evidently the flies make it relatively convenient for him to attempt to catch them with chopsticks.
And then he lets them go so I don't know if he has rotten meat or something rancid just chilling in that area? And only a few flies decide that they will hang out.
But as far as a movie... It misappropriates pretty much everything about everything.
The '80s movies were almost always just about a thing there wasn't much nuance or deepness to any of their movies.
But they most certainly made money and convinced a bunch of teenagers in the 80s that they could do almost anything. But Ronald Reagan showed us that that's just not the case. It's not about your karate. It's about your wallet.
