  • DemocracyNow.org - More U.S. soldiers have died this year by taking their own lives than on the battlefield. The Pentagon says there have been at least 154 suicides among active-duty troops in 2012, a rate of nearly one each day. We're joined by three guests: Kevin Hines, who survived a jump off the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco and now counsels suicidal soldiers; Bonnie Carroll, co-chair of the Pentagon's Task Force on the Prevention of Suicide in the Armed Forces and president of the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors; and journalist Aaron Glantz, author of the book "The War Comes Home: Washington's Battle Against America's Veterans."

    When the families of the innocent people who have been killed by those soldiers can't sleep during night, and when their pillows become wet of tears, and when they pray to God to bring justice, then don't be surprised.

    The most single important thing to do for anyone in any service or work is to do the right thing so that your conscience can accept your action and not haunt you for the rest of your living life.....killing innocent civilian is not in the list of doing the right thing !!!

    The VA used to be accessible, and FREE, for ALL military veterans, including non-combat veterans. It is absolutely deplorable and unforgivable that combat veterans are unable to access the VA without red tape.

    Two of my close friends, who were in the military for va counseling told me the story " no one listening to me" hearing and listening, but definitely not understanding. Joe blew his head off with his service revolver, Ken locked himself in the garage, started his car up and suffocated himself with exhaust fumes. They were both in VA counseling. The system is helping kill them. Others, please leave similar stories. Thank you
    -A veteran with cptsd in private counseling.

    You don't know how it is for individual soldiers. When I joined the military, I did so because there was a military draft and I really had no choice but to join. Once you're in that situation, you have to follow orders or get in big trouble. Individual recruits are subjected to bullying from every quarter in ways they never did before. Suicidal troops used to be routinely medically discharged but these days it is difficult.

    During the Vietnam War, lots of soldiers came home to be abused for having killed innocent kids, but we had to learn to separate the soldier from the war they were involved in - I have not forgotten my late uncle, a WW2 combat veteran, who took several dozen German soldiers captive, but never fired a single shot, and did not hate the German soldiers. This can be hard for civilians to understand.

    You come across as very quick to judge very young men and women who have been sold the idea that they will be serving their country and the cause of freedom if they join up, and also will have a chance to pursue an education later. When unemployment in the US is high, and people out of high school are wanting to grow up, it is easy to get caught up in something they don't expect. Our military leaders are the real culprits. I also am outraged by the millions of deaths caused by our country.

    Every soldier that has committed suicide from the trauma of war has been murdered by the state. Suicide is part and parcel of conflict and responsibility therefore lies in the bloody hands of those who waged war in spite of foreseeable harm. The extent of trauma and depression inflicted on those who kill other human beings reveals our intrinsic yearning for solidarity and demonstrates why lies and nationalism must be dragged like veils over eyes to convince our brothers to wear the uniform.

    Once upon a time, there was a guy named Darwin. He said "survival of the fittest". Fittest in current society is a mental/decision thing, not a physical thing.
    Our CURRENT military is a retarded organization designed to go out and play stupid for years and years and years and years.
    In the PAST (honestly, WWII), our military did defend us, protect us, was worth it. This one's just about money.
    Our CURRENT soldiers need us to roll our eyes and go 'why weren't you a car mechanic instead?'

    A lot of young guys are pretty clueless about the world when they sign up with the military. I know I was. Once in that role, they may strongly wish they'd never signed up, but they're in now, and have little choice but to follow through. I think about that book 'Johnny's Got his Gun' (also made into a movie) and also Gallipoli - a great movie from some years ago. These are so often innocent clueless kids who sign up hoping to be some kind of hero, but coming to face grim realities.

    • @johnalver
      @johnalver 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is so true, I don't think anyone would sign up after full disclosure

    • @invisiblesun6595
      @invisiblesun6595 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some signed up though to escape a far worse situation called "home". It's not always where the heart is, that's for sure. In some cases it may be where the hatred is. In situations like that it's relatively easy for recruiters to find willing recruits who seriously want to leave behind the self-loathing, sandbagging temperament of their peers for something different.

    Yup, think we all was young and a little less mindful of life and the choices we make. For most have 2 Parents that worked and most people just don't have the time to find the resources or the knowledge to understand. Like you I know what you are talking about, we all at a young age left to find the answers and understanding by ourselves. I 100% agree with you, it's just saddening that us as Humans have such abilities but we wish it all away for a few things that don't make us happy. God be w/u

    I totally understand you and agree with you, but perhaps calling them 'christians' is wrong, because a)Not all the Christians are bad b)Not all the troops were even christian-some may be atheist etc. Many Christians are good, and we shouldn't just name them by their religion..Urm...that's all :)

    I told everyone if we do this crusades in a land that is the origins of God in a land blessed and cursed at the same time it would trigger the wrath of revelations and the forces on earth that play false God for the souls of humanity as sacrifices to Satan would set in a chain reaction of equal misery on both sides

    Ahh what is a satanist? a satanist is a person who does not believe in God and wishes to self worship like Lucifer did before his fall. Being satanist is to self loathe to self empower to develop your own laws. Satanists don't follow deity they follow themselves.
