"No NATO, No War": U.S. Veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan Return War Medals at NATO Summit

- DemocracyNow.org - Democracy Now! broadcasts from Chicago, site of the largest NATO summit in the organization's six-decade history. On Sunday, veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, as well as members of Afghans For Peace, led a peace march of thousands of people. Iraq Veterans Against the War held a ceremony where nearly 50 veterans discarded their war medals by hurling them down the street in the direction of the NATO summit. We hear the soldiers' voices as they return their medals one by one from the stage. "I am giving back my global war on terror service medal in solidarity with the people of Iraq and Afghanistan," said Jason Heard, a former combat medic who spent 10 years in the U.S. Army. "I am deeply sorry for the destruction that we have caused in these countries and around the globe."

As an Iraqi living in Australia now , Veteran 2003 Invasion I served as an MP for 4 Months , I still have emotional wounds from the aftermath and pre the invasion years , I lost family members and friends killed for no reason , all what I want is to heal . there is no more words to describe what I feel .
why do you deserve to heal? You seem like a very selfish creature even in your confession. Nothing about the injustice you caused in your post, nothing about the suffering you unjustly caused to others. You didn't give 2 fuks about the harm you would be causing others when you joined the terrorist organization called the usa military. You didn't care you're joining an organization that wages offensive wars while pointing fingers at others for violence hypocritically. All that mattered was "me me me me me me me." And even now all you can say is me me me me my family my friends, all I want is to heal - nothing about the family and friends you took away from others. Why do you not deserve to suffer? Why do you deserve to heal when you willingly joined an organization that caused the opposite for many others?
What I realize about you people is you are inherently very selfish people which explains how you could have justified joining such an organization in the first place.
When you need to heal my Brother the only solution is to accept the islam in shaa allah. Allah can cure everything your soul inflicts and inflictes. Allah is all mercyful and he will in shaa allah forgive your soul doing the wrong.
Following the lord and asking for forgiveness is the only way. There is no middleman but the lord.

@ayukiii_ absolutely not! I am an Afghan woman born in Afghanistan. I get the real news, not western propaganda. You should see the type of progress the Taliban has made in the last 2 years. They have wiped out the criminals, and people are safer than ever before!! They have incredible mega projects lined up to boost the economy. They are taking care of its people like no one els has ever had in Afghan history. The woman are covered because we are a nation who respect and protect our woman, not use and abuse them, and then dispose them like the west. The family system is of great value to us because strong families make strong societies with great moral values, something that's long lost in the Western world. The Western world has been so messed up and confused that they are even questioning their own identity and gender, and they have long lost the ability to think rathionally. They are like herd that just blindly follow their government and its zionist runned media and are the first to point figures at others and how they got it wrong, while their governments invade and slaughter us and then label us as the terrorist. The western hypocrisy is simply mindblowing!

Any time I hear these brave (ex) soldiers I want to cry because I can just imagine what they have been through, what they have seen, done, lived amongst - the physical,emotional and moral torture they have experienced, the lack of help from govt and yet they have done the tremendously difficult task, the psychological gymnastics that it takes to come to your own sense of reality! Hip hip hooray for these brave truth finders! They are waking up the people!

Sometimes it takes more courage not to fight (ex. those who refused deployment) than to blindly follow orders. After all it's not like America is fighting an enemy that is it's equal on the battlefield. America has every advantage on the battlefield over its enemy.
