  • democracynow.org - "Senior ranking U.S. military leaders have so distorted the truth when communicating with the U.S. Congress and American people in regards to conditions on the ground in Afghanistan that the truth has become unrecognizable." That's the assessment of a damning new report by Army Lt. Col. Daniel Davis who returned in October from his second year-long deployment in Afghanistan and says military officials have not leveled with the American public about how poorly the the decade-long war is going. He argues that local Afghan governments are unable to provide the basic needs of the people and that insurgents control virtually all parts of Afghanistan beyond eyeshot of a U.S. base. We speak with Michael Hastings of Rolling Stone, who obtained a copy of the full report and published it last week. "Lieutenant-Colonel Davis is on the right side of history and the fact [is] that he believes in this and is willing to risk [his career]," Hastings says.

I really hope this isn't more party politics taking place within the military. I just find it very hard to believe a Lt. Colonel would go public like this, unless an agenda was at play. This smells like politics to me...
It's a nice fairy tale to believe that a high-ranking military officer would speak out like this for "moral" reasons, but it's just not believable.

And the same sheeple who will love this 'report,' true or not, will claim we can't defeat the beast here and restore Liberty...

you say all that as if you're the first person to say it. like you're telling me new information. are u suggesting that woman were more empowered under the Taliban than they are today? i know i'm ignorant and biased and don't read and everything but be honest with yourself. my point was that this woman defends the actions of a movement that considers her little more than cattle and would NEVER allow her to do what she does.

i wonder what the Taliban would think of Nermeen Shaikh? i saw a video just a few days ago of Taliban fighters in Pakistan who threw 3 guys into a pit with their hands tied behind their backs and burned them alive. i wonder if the women of Afghanistan would like to see the Taliban return? my guess would be they are so ignorant, fearful, abused, brainwashed that they would do whatever the men say.

Nermeen Shaikh is Pakistani. Of course she supported the Taliban. Makes perfect since Hypocrisy Now would bring her on.

"entitled to his opinion". So that's what it is, an opinion. Documented research by a subject matter expert is "opinion", but the conclusions made by commanders hundreds of miles away is "fact".

Well that shows just how uninformed you are. Michael Hastings is dead. The lead suspect is David Patraeus. Why do people like you insist on commenting when you don't bother to learn anything first?

8:02 Michael Hastings, the marines were seen urinating on Farmers, not "taliban". Based on the video and what the men were seen wearing on their feet, they were identified as Farmers.

As someone who reported on the investigation of this incident at the time, i can say i never heard any official claim that they were farmers. What source are you getting this from?
