@@QuixEnd It's pretty simple though, just make a law that every city has to have bunkers for every X amount of people. Also every building that houses X amount of people or has enough floor space has to have a bunker. That's what Finland has done with legislation for the last decades. The US could do this if you wanted to, but you don't and it's ok to me since I don't live in the US. Also Russia is not your neughbour so it's fine really.
in the event this happens, my feelings are torn.
On one hand i think the guy who got us into that situation shouldnt have a king size bed to survive his own mess.. he should be left outside like the rest of us.
On the other hand I want all of our govt officials to be in there and survive. For ten years I was assigned to a unit that was part of the Continuity of Government. Everytime we practiced evacuation I left my wife and two children behind. I got into a helicopter and flew to the bunker. Everytime the alarm went off, I had to get to a pickup location, I'd get on a helicopter and left! We never knew if it was the real thing or just another practice. I just knew I'd never see my family again. It's the worst feeling. I'm glad I don't have to do that anymore!

I just retired from a major telecom corp. They have numerous underground central offices built on shocks. We were told in case of nuclear war we were to report to one of these offices so that we could restore communications to the country.
I retired from one about 3 years ago, same thing.

It's internal Post Office...they didn't have iPhones and 500mbps internet back then. All those different offices / branches / "rings" (sectors)...5 sectors, 3 stories each all consisting of ~85 offices per floor per section. And that's not even the War Room or the other support depts.

The post offices function is grave registration and will issue a card for survivors to fill out with details of who they are looking for, the postal service will eventually reconnect survivors and fuguer out total of deaths ect.

I’ve grown up in a small town clarksburg wv. I’m 18 we’ve always had an airport in my town and when I was growing up maybe around 10 they began constructing and finished a huge fbi complex just a couple miles from the airport. Around this time the airport and its runways were expanded. I’ve been told that the amount of time it took and the amount of dirt pulled from the ground for this fbi project was astronomical. In a town less than a half hour away called fairmont there is a nasa facility with huge radars and I’ve been told the amount of electricity going into this plant is also astronomical. I’ve heard rumors before that Air Force one will sometimes do touch downs at our airport not stop and take right back off. In the fall I was jogging at a sports complex near the airport and saw and took videos of what appeared to be air force one land and immediately take off about 3 different times within a half hour. After later research I realized the paint job on said plane resembled that of Air Force two not Air Force one. Very weird. My hometown is about three hours away from the town of greenbrier and I’m convinced something crazy is going on here.

I live right by site r, and it is a bit spooky. If you are hiking the Appalachian, around here it is common knowledge not to stray too far from the path, as you could put yourself in a lot of danger if you get too close to Raven Rock.

the fallout shelter thats a makeshift underground shelter or something convenient like a subway or a basement of a business, that wont save you its like he said, its all window dressing. You do understand that within these hypothetical bunkers are farms and food reserves meant to supply those within the bunker. Hydroponic farming mixed with a few other methods of survival with a budget no human being can touch makes this type of thing realistic. Some billionaires most likely have their own bunkers that would suffice if say America was nuked. If I had to guess most of these bunkers will be next to massive water reserves either above or below ground making water not an issue. Needless to say if the wealthiest and most powerful wanted to, which I am sure they do, could easily pull off a safe haven bunker to ride out a nuclear war.
Every grain of rice every bit of food stored will be eaten by weavels or rot into itself and their water will hide in the air. Do you really think that the Great Spirit would allow the most evil of every nation to hide in safety and comfort while the rest of the world suffers in Agony and dies - at the hands of these same evil people? When I was in elementary. Public school in the early 00's. Somehow we still did nuclear bomb drills and got educated on it. We even took a tour of our local fallout shelter which was still in service at that time, and stocked. As a child I remember looking at the shelter and realizing it was more than inadequate, and idk how tf a school desk is supposed to shield me from a nuke, a hurricane, or a fucking earthquake. What are they made out of?

Here in Australia they have built 5 underground nuclear shelters across the Àustralian desert in 4 states accessible by air only, no road access. Each bunker facility hold upto 3,000 people for 6 month. These bunkers were built by foreigners from Indonesia and Vietnam. With location undisclosed.

That should be held for only the smartest people in the world. It should be for the smartest people who actually will work to rebuild the world after a nuclear world specifically.
The accuracy of modern delivery system guarantees the fireball from a ground impact will be larger than any "miss" that's likely to occur in a functioning weapon. (i.e. the miss will be perhaps 100 meters while the fireball radius will be 250 meters or more, so if the weapon functions the target will probably be vaporized, of course at 250 meters deep, it might take more than one strike, but the Russians have thousands of warheads)
In this kind of environment, a distributed and redundant SECRET bunker system is far more effective than any single bunker complex could ever be.
And the first, most important component of security is being hidden so the Russians wouldn't know where to shoot.

@@maxpower1337 I actually think some of this stuff is important because without a national defense against an attack, the best we can do is let whoever might be thinking about attacking us that they'd never be able to take the government out of action and that would mean the retaliation for their attack would be certain. I think that kind of deterrence is why we've had as peaceful a world as we have since WWII. ("peaceful" as compared to the 100 years before the war)

You don’t have to die in a nuclear attack , there are places you can go like schools , church’s , ymca,s , boys & girls clubs . Theses places have fallout shelters & if your lucky they even have radiation protection or can protect you from Amy radiation from getting in through the ground .
That's funny. FEMA has a text system where you can request the location of a shelter near you. Three times I queried it with zip codes in major metro areas, and three times it told me there were no shelters within 200 miles.

When I was in the military I was a member of a radiation decontamination team. We had to attend classes and re-qualify every year. We participated in drills often. Yeah, we donned the full canary-suits.

Going under ground is a bad idea imagine being underground and being cooked while you’re on the ground it’s like an oven and you’re being cooked when the surface reaches temperatures as hot as the sun and the temperature sinks into the ground you’re gonna be cooked.
The interesting thing is they'd refuse entry to designated personnel if they brought their families. In such a scenario would you stick with the government, abandoning your family to survive or stay with your family and die?

Russian Nuke flight time to Washington: Under 30mins.
Marine 1 flight time to Raven Rock: 22min + ingress/egress, and initial alert time.
All that armor and I doubt anyone would reach it.
If it does happen (hopefully not) intel will probably see them preparing for launch like moving payloads and such. So they probably will camp out in their bunkers so I bet they would make it.
