    Top job, so pleased that the rot isn't too bad under the roof. But enough there to make it worthwhile lifting it . Seeing the inside of your hightop has given me ideas for insulating mine when it goes back on. I like the pull out drawers in the front area. Keep up the work 👍

      Yea I think the timing was right with it really. Possibly the insulation helped and it does seem to have some waxoil on it. There is definitely a cavity behind the insulation but I imagine just gluing kingspan straight to the roof would do just as good. It actually have double glazed skylights too.

    Well done mate, good video. I have a t25 high-top and this vid has given me some insight on how to check the roof. Best of luck.

    Delighted I've come across this. I've had my Komet for ten years and just decided to do a complete restoration. What has held me back over the years is that it is too hight to fit in the garage. This will save me a lot of head scratching and grief

      Glad it's a help. I couldn't do this outside, it would rot faster than I could fix it. They are dam high tho. Good luck with your restoration 👍

    Thanks so much for this, I have a 1989 Komet and have to replace both gutters. I feel a lot better about getting the roof off having seen this!

      Glad it's a help, it does look quite daunting but actually not so bad, it is nice to know the interior doesn't need to be distroyed. Good luck with it

    As I said in my previous comment that I'm in a process of overhauling my T25 BUT after looking around the outside of my high top I stupidly decided not to go anywhere near it BUT now after seeing your video speechless now because my mind is gone with the dreadful idea of must lift up the damn thing😲😟🤔🥺 I'm just hoping that by miracle my one is not as yours because my garage is not high enough and here in Mayo /Foxford it's impossible to find a garage let alone somewhere high enough to fit her in. I'm really happy for you that you went ahead and defeated the demons and thankfully it wasn't that bad at all. Anyway thanks a million for sharing this lovely video. I very much enjoyed it and I also have an idea now about how to go about it. Thanks to you 🙏👍👏✌🤟🤞

      Thanks again, if you had the man power you could probably lift the roof away entirely the drive in inside to do the work while it's off. Mine was heavy because of all the joinery still in it but if that was removed 2 maybe 3 people would lift it down. 👍

    I know you won't probably think it,but you are very lucky with only them few bits on the roof to do,as I've seen a hell of a lot worse ,but like most things it can be repaired, it's coming along nicely you will get there 👍🤙👍

      @@TheTinski07 A lot of it is due to condensation and not just water ingress, an old sock with cat litter is a good one to keep the moisture down and cheap as chips.

    Hi 👋🏼.. firstly I’d love to ask you if taking my pop top off (it’s not set right and also has a crack in the corner)
    And replacing it too a high top,as I have rust coming where they have done a bodge job on the current roof… is a good idea? also I’ve sourced one which is a 2.5 hour drive😂..how do you get them home safely? thank you 😊

      Hi,
      I'm a fan of the highroofs, warmer quieter and you have standing room and storage for bedding all the time. Downside I guess is the extra windage, smaller top bunk and no getting under barriers. They are light and easy to fit but lining the interior is a pain unless it's already fitted out. As for transport, probably strapped to your roof is the easiest option, when we did the orange van I bought the whole donor van to get the roof and had it delivered.

    Fantastic job your doing so glad I came across your channel. I have just bought a hightop to convert my bus. How did you go about cutting the bonding to split the roof from the metal? I see your background in boats any advise on how to repair cracks in the gel coat, I have some spider web patterns that need repair?

    • @TheTinski07
      @TheTinski07  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi. Thank you.
      I actually didn't have much trouble separating it. I cut around the edge vertically with a Stanley and once I had put a bit of pressure under it with the jack most came free and anywhere that stuck just took a little leverage with a wide chisel. Could be tricky if is was very well stuck but luckily it wasn't bad. As for gelcoat repair you need to grind out all the crazing back to grp with a feathered edge. You can buy gelcoat repair epoxy filler in various colours. Body filler isn't great because it's hydroscopic and won't seal the grp, although not such an issue on a roof.

    Nice video and nice job. Could you tell me how the roof was fixed to the body? Only with the sealant?
    Wasn't it screwed in? Thanks

    • @TheTinski07
      @TheTinski07  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, thank you.
      The roof is only glued in the gutters and to 2 tabs on the back and front. The metal plates on the inside are the only parts that are screwed.

    I've took the roof of mine and stripped all the roof out and now I don't know how to start relining it can u plz help with some ideas of how to board it out

    • @TheTinski07
      @TheTinski07  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Easiest way is probably to stick some battens in with something like tec7. Cut your top ceiling boards and carpet them before putting them in. The side panels are more tricky but you could make cardboard templates or use strips of timber glued with a hot glue gun to make the shape of the side panel and cut it out of plywood. It's a pain in the arse any which way. Easier when the roof is on the ground up side down

    Well done mate. In the middle of doing the same with mine. May I ask what you stuck your roof back down with. Also what you used down the guttering/rain catchers ?

    • @TheTinski07
      @TheTinski07  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you, I used tec7 to stick it down, and the same along inside the gutter after, it's an adhesive sealant so I pity anyone trying to remove it in future. Marine sikaflex would be my other option

      Thank you. I will give that one ago. Hopefully it won't have to come of again for a good number of years. So better it being stuck down good and proper
