"Alright so the project at hand is repairing a broken heart, my parents didn't make it strong enough so now I've got to reinforce it, with diamond plate, and I-Beams"
Andrew you will find the wiring on your pick up isn't corroded but it has a black varnish coating that has to be scraped before soldering. Contractors trailers always take a hiding. You made a good strong trailer and its paid for its self and then some. When they came into the shop we nearly always had to replace the trailer plug as they'd ripped it off the loom. So we made a short loom about 3 ft long and a plug fixed to the trailers frame so when the plug got run over or dragged off it only pulled the short loom from the trailers wiring plug and didn't tear the wiring out of the trailer. That saved a lot of frustration.

If you weld a plate (or strips) of metal on the underside of those trailer ramps, they shouldn't bend as easy anymore. Even better would be a V shaped construction, connected to the ramp at both ends, and in the middle of the ramp, connected to the point of the V. This V construction could interfere with (un)loading in some cases though, although it wouldn't be too bad.
Yup, angle iron must be the most common crap used for load bearing structures. I agree with Mr. Derks. Think of the top part receiving compression and the bottom stretching, on the bottom you have only a 1/2 x 1/4 piece receiving all the stretch.

The way you handle the wiring for the lights make me think you've been watching Paul Short. I was wiring up lights for my baby backhoe mf tractor and he made a "Basic Soldering" video just for me, about 4 years ago, so I could wire my lights correctly. You really are knowledgeable, Andrew. And even though you are younger in age than I am, you got this "ole fart" beat in fixing things. I'd love to have you as a neighbor. The things I could learn.
Not all of us live in parts of the country where the roads are salted. That will definitely deteriorate just about any metal. Sometimes the vehicle is so far gone, depending on your point of view, that it needs to be sent to the scrap yard. Interesting to know that newer equipment doesn't need quite as much major maintenance. However, I really like the way you look at everything. I've always been more about the tools than the work that they do.
I like the trailer it's a very nice trailer you did a nice job building that one I like your ideas on the tail lights watched most of your videos I should say all of them I like that you're very ambitious and business has been booming I like your dog my grandpa used to have labs they tend to be a very good companion God has blessed you with many talents I like that you're a very Hands-On very mechanical type person keep up the good videos
You can use a drag cup with the plasma cutter to make near perfect circles. Use a template with it. Angle metal can be clamped at both ends to make straight line cuts.
Great choice on the clearance lights. Big semi trailers use them. I changed a lot of them and they have a warranty on them, too. Hold on to them when they burn out.
You could have added some additional steel profiles in the longitudal direction of those ramps. Without extra reenforcement I think they will just bend again over time.
It's good to see another maintenance video, and more equipment getting fixed and smartened up. you customer image is going way up now hopefully it brings you more work, maybe somebody would like to demonstrate paint less dent removal for a business promo video on the truck L.O.L . In a few video's I've been watching you and thinking why doesn't he do this, 30 second later you are doing it. Today was the ramps, I used to straighten my buddys like that with my backhoe loader. it don't seem to take much to bend them in use but like you found straightening is harder. we used to bounce the machine on his with the rear tires 2ft in the air. 25 years later his trailers gone but the ramss are still used and bent again. His kids were in the yard talking about straightening them, They thought the story was good about doing them before they were born. I said if we straighten them again now with the machine they'd be good until it was his grand kids problem L.O.L. I'm not sure whether they would do it again or if they'd snap during or after when they bend again in use, they probably aren't worth strengthening up now new ones would be better . Thanks for the video, Take care
Make your ramps reversible. I did that with my old trailer and whenever they started to sag, I'd flip em. Kept them straight for years.
Or you can just use I shape (IPE) profiles lengthwise...

Loved the pictures that you edited back to in this video. What a good companion Levi has been. He was just getting his mojo going then. I really hope you find the time to read my comments as I care about you as a person. I think we count too. Thanks for sharing Andrew
Also, may I add that you are the undisputed king of hold my beer moments.
blktlhunter 😂
Guess you didn’t see the B is for build episode where they had a car sitting in concrete blocks and was underneath the car.
Super sketchy.
I never understood why you didn't make leg's for the bottom of your ramps out of L- Channel or something.
I have seen how heavy they are without extra loading, but some form of reinforcing could be a good idea.
I agree, they will bend faster this time around!
I've always been more about the tools than the work that they do.
used motor oil for the boards - or so I heard :p
appreciate the timestamps in the description, even though I watch it fully :D
I like the trailer it's a very nice trailer you did a nice job building that one I like your ideas on the tail lights watched most of your videos I should say all of them I like that you're very ambitious and business has been booming I like your dog my grandpa used to have labs they tend to be a very good companion God has blessed you with many talents I like that you're a very Hands-On very mechanical type person keep up the good videos
Glad I turned notifications on.
Thank You Andrew for taking us with you on your awesome journeys, almost every day. Never boring. ILNY.
Put some reflective tape under em ramps so when up, tailgaters SEE YOU !
Sean Anderson, yeah reflectors great idea
You got tail light what a little reflective tape ant gonna stop people
@@circleh5173 you'd be surprised how far DOT reflective tape goes in heavy fog, etc. Plus 150'of it is $30 on Amazon.
Nothing like taking a break from fixing my stuff and watching Andy fix his stuff.
Square tubing would do great
Or folding "legs" midway like many heavy duty trailers have.
Old saying from British Merchant Marine : “If all else fails, get a bigger hammer!”
more ugga dugga
Yea hand me that BFH
In Denmark we say “ never use violence, get a bigger hammer”
I’ve always liked the phrase “ a grinder and paint makes you the welder you ain’t”
he made it this far by working hard on his very own, kuddos Andrew, a self made man
Another tee shirt: 15:29
"The only way to make electrical connections, solder with shrink tube"
Love your videos and the way you fix things with no drama Andrew.good job.
25:14 Levi: Proud to be with a beautiful trailer
