Planet Tier List! (Dyson Sphere Program)

  • I've looked at data from over 12000 planets in 50 different star clusters to get some concrete information on the different types of planets you can build on in Dyson Sphere Program! When you start out in this game, you are stuck on the Mediterranean planet until you can upgrade your mech to explore the rest of the star system, which can take several hours. Then, you will need to get further upgrades and technology to be able to efficiently explore outside of your star system with Space Warpers. At that point... you suddenly have up to 64 stars and over 250 planets to consider for expanding your industry and building your Dyson Spheres! It can be quite intimidating deciding where to go to efficiently set up to generate strong long-term science and industrial production!
    I made this tier list to summarise my thoughts on which planets I'll prioritise settling on as soon as I get Space Warpers, and which stars should be prioritised when selecting a cluster to play in at game start to maximise the important resources available to you. This list is subjective, but I've tried to include as much real data as possible; each planet has been broken down into its own tier list based on how large the basic deposits are and how likely you are to find rare deposits. Let me know in the comments if you agree or disagree with these rankings! I'm keen to hear about what experiences you've had with different planets and how you've managed to fit them into your industrial empire.
    PLEASE NOTE THAT PLANET NAMES HAVE CHANGED WITH THE DARK FOG UPDATE. The planets themselves do not appear to have changed but if you're hunting Dark Fog then Soil Piles will be less of an issue than usual. I have updated the chapter descriptions accordingly.
    The raw data for this video can be found here: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/.... You can generate more data by using this mod: dsp.thunderstore.io/package/G.... To add that to the dataset, all you need to do is... 1) Copy and paste the output below the other data in Sheet 0. 2) Extend the "net position" formula downwards. 3) Sort the sheet by Planet Type and then by new position. 4) Go to Sheet 2 and check that the formulae are all extended downwards, you should have some formula cells with no content if this is done correctly. 5) Go to Sheet 1 and look at the results.
    I've just finished a run of Dyson Sphere Program on Twitch; feel free to follow me there at / erisia_gaming and you'll get a notification when I next start playing this game live. I'm looking forward to the 1.0 release of this game and the new combat systems that the devs are adding. You can find all of the VODs for that run on TH-cam at • Dyson Sphere Program P... . There is also the Discord where we frequently discuss this game, share builds, memes and stories, etc: discord.com/invite/h7W8Cp4T5T

    NOTE: With the Dark Fog update, many of these planet's names have changed. However, as far as I know, the planets themselves have not. Will test further. I have added the new names to the chapter descriptions to help avoid confusion. ALSO, the Dark Fog tend to give you a lot of Soil Piles as you fight them throughout your playthrough, so I would say that planets with large amounts of Ocean are no longer significantly hindered by the lack of space as much. You can also build Wind Turbines in Oceans now so that also helps.

      Thank you! I've included a link to the spreadsheet, the mod used to generate the data, and some instructions in the video description.

    Solar Equatorial belts are really bad overall. Instead, use your poles for solar power. You can easily get most planets power needs fulfilled while keeping %80+ solar panels always producing. This also leaves your precious equatorial building area free to use.

      @erisia_gaming  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, building power plants on the equatorial belts is annoying when setting up bigger factories. I've often set up belts going around the edges of the equatorial belt rather than in the centre to avoid this, but it sounds like polar panels have a higher average uptime. Plus the polar grid sucks so filling with solar panels is much easier than building anything up there. I'd love to see some maths behind the most efficient spots to put solar panels.

      @@erisia_gaming Before the Dark Fog update, I would build solar belts around the equator of some planets. I would do an array of five wide. I would build these only on planets that have a high solar value which would also depend on their axial tilt, their spin, (if they are tidally locked or not), etc. If there is a planet that is tidally locked and depending on its tilt, then I would only do a half array around the planet. This is all mid game setup until I am able to build an actual dyson sphere, artificial stars and the antimatter fuel rods.
      Solar arrays are a little bit expensive but not too bad, but their setup is fairly easy and they do provided unlimited power without requiring any extra resources. It's better than relying on burning coal or carbon, oxygen, etc... Also for the planets with good solar power that aren't tidally locked, having the solar belt around the equator at a width of 5 with a line of accumulators running on the outside edges of them is easily visible from space as you're approaching the planet. It lets you easily distinguish the northern from the southern hemispheres. Early to mid game, if I need resources to go from onside of the solar belt to the other, I'll just temporarily use raised belts that go over it until I'm able to get the logistics network up and running. Once you have drones, there's no need to run spaghetti belts.
      I won't claim it's the most efficient, but they do work quite well. This also depends on the particular planet that you are building on. I will do this on any planet that has 100%+ solar production. As for other planets with less solar but a very high wind such as some of the desert planets, then I'll drop windmill farms. If this particular planet has say 124% wind and say at least 90% solar, then I still might drop a solar belt but I might only do it 3 wide instead just to help out the wind farm.
      Eventually, once the dyson spheres are up and working in conjunction with artificial stars, then you can remove the solar belts. Now as for some of the lava planets, I believe within one of the newer updates they did add in a generator that can produce power from the heat of the lava which is new to me. I haven't played this game in almost a year and I have been thinking about getting back into again. So this is something I'll have to play with...
      Great video by the way. The tier rankings appear to be fairly accurate from my own playthroughs.

    Late game, bring about 8 artificial stars, 4 for the north pole and 4 for the south pole and import antimatter fuel rods. That'll give you most the power you need to run just about anything on that planet. You can always add more artificial stars as needed.

    Oh, one thing to note about Crystal Desert planets. You CAN find them in your starting system... but they don't spawn with rare resources in that case. :D

    I would put rocky salt lake at A tier because it's the best planet for making processors in the late game. It has huge amount of silicon and decent iron and copper at the same time.

    I preafer to conwert crystals into nanotubes on the waterworld itself. Is reduce cargo capacity but requires more foundations to place.
    No love for Ice filed gelisol :( It is common planet with resource: water, titanium and some stone. And so I can produce titanium glass easy on this planet. No need to worry about water source in any other of my planet-factory (water is needed only for titanium glass). Also fireice is a bonus. I will put it in high A tier.

    • @erisia_gaming
      @erisia_gaming  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah if you have plenty of Foundations then refining Spiniform Crystals on the Waterworld makes sense, as it takes up only 1/3 of the interplanetary logistics capacity. They should add more uses for Water lmao. They could make an Electrolyser building that turns 9 parts Water into 1 part Hydrogen or something but takes a lot of power.

    Ooh NICE! Exactly what I was looking for!
    One question : people discussing this topic often cite tidally locked planets. How on earth can people see that from the seed choice screen??

      IIrc you can't without mods. The base game only gives you star designations, not how many or what planets are available.

    The third main-use for optical crystals is Mk II Miners...

    • @erisia_gaming
      @erisia_gaming  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes that's true. If I have a single random vein of Optical Grating Crystals somewhere, I would save it for buildings like these.

    I never produce anything on a lava planet. Set up the energy in the lava pools and it will more than supply the late game miners. Then ship the raw materials off to somewhere I can actually use it IE build factories without reforming a lava pool. lol

    The content in this video is good, but this is *so long*, that a more tightly-edited version would be a legit treasure trove, but the information you're communicating is very difficult to access without repeatedly slogging through this.
