    I bought a Braumach spare wheel for my Model 3, it arrived in three days from Melbourne and I live in Canberra. It is a mag wheel, ie, alloy, so not that heavy. But everything else it comes with, the jack, the jack lever, the wheel lug spanner, etc, all weigh a bit. So the overall package weighs 20kg, ie, the same as a heavy suitcase. I have not had to use it, but my nephew did for his Model 3. He reported that it worked fine, was good. Highly recommended for any serious road tripping. You can either store it immediately behind the driver seat or in the boot (it comes in a nice bag with a handle, so no chance of filthying up the inside of your car). In the boot it does not take up that much room, still plenty of room for other luggage..... well as long as you are not bringing a crazy amount of luggage. :-) I have done this same trip at 500km per day, which I would say is a sensible distance to drive per day. I also take issue with any of it being boring. I, and the others I travelled with loved every second of it, and the variety of what we got to look at, and all the wonderful things that happened along the way. That is, the endless and very yellow canola crops at the Wheat Belt, Wave Rock that had me wanting to go surfing, Cape Le Grande National Park because it is just so gorgeous, all the endless gimlet tree forests, the low tree forests that is the Nullarbor (very interesting and special), how many Southern Right Whales there were at the Head of the Bight near the Nullarbor Roadhouse, the spare minimal beauty of western South Australia, swimming in the olympic sized swimming cage on the side of a pier at Streaky Bay, the funky sculptures at the Great Ocean Drive near Elliston, the seafood at Port Lincoln, catching the ferry across the Spencer Gulf from Cowell to Walleroo, that crazy place Adelaide, then driving the Murray Valley Highway until Albury when we got on the freeway and drove home. What a trip, what an amazing trip, nothing boring encountered along the way at all......

      Thanks for the info about the Braumach wheel. I’d definitely like to take one of if I was doing the trip again, or anything similar. 😊

    Awesome video and great info. When you say you used Autopilot was that just the basic one that came with the car or do you have one of the upgraded versions?

    • @shaunmcfadyen8310
      @shaunmcfadyen8310  3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Just the basic one. Didn't need anything more, it was just one straight road most of the way so the basic autopilot did the trick :)

    Its a drive I'd love to do someday in my M3RWD. Sounds like it could be a fun journey.

    Understanding TAS v GS (True Air Speed v. Ground Speed) is fundamental to planning along with ambient air temperature. High TAS is the range killer. Read that weather forecast carefully.

    Really good info mate, appreciate the effort you went to, I'm looking to go from Perth to Murray Bridge so this really helps. We have the same car and a Prado but that sits around 13L/100 so much more expensive, if I tow its closer to 18L/100. Assume the return was just a repeat with appropriate charging?

    • @shaunmcfadyen8310
      @shaunmcfadyen8310  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes the return was pretty similar but with a few detours for touristy stops. We took an extra day to come home, but used a lot of the same charging stops

      From the 18 minute mark to 32 minutes I talk about the charging and where I stopped. At 18 minutes I put all the charging stops on screen

    Great review and $300 for that trip, that's great. Now, your comparison to a car using only 6L/100 is not fair, the average car now and best seller is the Ford Ranger and HiLu, it would cost around $700 or more.

    • @shaunmcfadyen8310
      @shaunmcfadyen8310  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks. I thought I’d go with the more efficient end for ICE vehicles to be more fair. I didn’t think comparing a model 3 to a ford ranger was like for like. We did see quite a a few Camry and i30 type cars doing the trip as well

      @@shaunmcfadyen8310 I agree with that a little, but i did Melbourne to Exmouth 12 months ago and I did it in my Jeep Grand Cherokee V6 petrol, spent around $900 and didn't see one small car or very many Camry's or i30's.

      @@shaunmcfadyen8310 My former car was a Renault Captur. Allegedly 5.4 l/100km but I never got better than 7. Before you accuse me of being a leadfoot, no tester, even long term ones got better than 7. Moral of the story is factory fuel economy is definitely fiction.

    Any reason you didn’t try to fix your tyre puncture with a tyre plugging kit? That looked very pluggable to me…

    DC fast charging at Nullarbor Roadhouse! Luuurrrxury. we did the trip from Sydney to Perth and back, via Broken Hill, No fast chargers between Broken Hill to William's just east of Perth. heading West we went via Esperance, On the return from August to Hyden to Norseman, good quality dirt road. we have a Performance Stealth Model 3
    Balladonia $2 a Kwh what a rip-off now, we paid $1 and thought that was a bit of a rip-off considering Madura Pass and Nullarbor Roadhouse only wanted about 20 or $40 for a full charge.
