    I have had enough of the 100HP Plus bikes, I already own a Continent GT 650, so obviously that is my choice but I do love the Thruxton and the Speed triple but too much Dosh for this fellow. the more I ride my GT650 really the move I love it and appreciate it for what it is, its more fun to ride a lower HP bike to its full potential then it is to ride a big HP bike and not even come close to its full potential, thank you for the vid it was great.

    Nice Vid Rob,....BMW R Nine T Classic, my choice everyday of the week, the best looking bike by far. Is it a Cafe Racer? probably just as much as some of the other bikes on your list

    • @joewagner3780
      @joewagner3780 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Came here with that same thought. R NineT is typically head-to-head with the Thruxton in most videos. Shocked to see it missing. They did make a lower spec variant called “The Racer” which is a pretty typical Café styled racer bike IMO. List is considered a bit incomplete without having the old school air (and oil)-cooled BMW’s on here.

    Hey Bob, nice to see the Mondial making your list, my learner bike, went really well and very literally couldn’t go anywhere without someone asking me about it, which made it feel special. On the downside, disappointed the Guzzi V7 didn’t make the cut! Maybe not considered a Cafe Racer, but it certainly enjoys ripping between coffee stops! 9-6-8 = 23.

    I feel for anyone that didn't snag a Husqvarna Vitpilen 701 before they were discontinued. I bought the very last new 2020 blue and white painted unit within a 100 mile radius of my home.
    - Modern Cafe racer styling
    - 75 HP Single - Most powerful street single ever built
    - Fully adjustable front and rear WP upside down shocks
    - No clutch quickshifter
    - Brembo brakes
    - 350 pounds!
    You won't see them coming and going. I have yet to see another on the street! They once retailed for nearly $12,000 USD, but I was able to get mine for $8,000. Premium components! I heard of some grey 2019s that sold for $7,000. I just did a 200 mile day on July 4th and the bike is absolutely wonderful in every way, and it gets lots of attention when parked!

    I'm an owner of of Thruxton R and BMW R9T/5 and would include the Kawasaki 900 RS garage too and view them in same class. The only bike on your list I would not have is the Norton however I would have a Norton 961.
    The Thruxton R with a cam is a match with the stock R9T/5 speed wise, and better than the RS. The R9T/5 is a tad more comfortable than the Thruxton R but the Thruxton R handles considerably better. If I could have one from your list to add it would be the Kawasaki or the MV.

    60's Cafe Racer = make it look more like a Manx Norton. Ideally a featherbed frame with a big twin, clip ons, rearsets, ali guards, hump backed tank or a low lyta design, swept back pipes, megas and as many go faster bits as you can afford.
    Having said that I've seen photos of my Dad and his mates with clip ons, rearsets, ali guards and flyscreens fitted to humble Francis Barnett & James 2 strokes
    I did have a customised 750 Commando Roadster with the Combat motor, lowered gearing, minimal mudguards, 3 spoke CMA mag wheels, a decluttered front end, tiny silencers (you could hear the bike for three counties), Dunstall rearsets and some clip ons. But I never called it a Cafe Racer.
    Only bike here that I'm likely to buy is the RE 650, though I'd probably buy the Interceptor and fit the GT rearsets.

    Where is the BMW R9T? if you are including MT series R9T looks even more retro and wait they have R9T CAFE version as well!

  • @ricatiman

    Speed Triple RR would be my choice, with MV 800 Superveloce as second choice, as the Triumph I know will be reliable and durable.

    Half of the goal of making a retro / cafe racer looking bike is a stylized motor. Harley, RE, and Triumph are great at this with Kawa trying, but an inline 3 or 4 cyl could be made to look like an old style air cooled motor, then work on the trimmings.

    A super unpopular opinion, but a true modern equivalent of a cafe racer of yesteryear would be the 1000cc super sports of today. The point of a cafe racer was to go as fast as you can from point A to point B using performance parts to replicate the race bikes of the time. Still I do very much love the modern cafe racer look.

    Nothing is known about the Norton atlas yet...will they be marketed?

  • @peterwilson8039
    @peterwilson8039 ปีที่แล้ว

    A 7 for looks for the Vitpilen as a cafe racer is incomprehensible. If I had to rate it, I'd give it a 2, but honestly I'd rather not look at it. It's a paradigm buster that failed badly, and cafe racer is definitely its own paradigm. I'm not particularly taken with the Norton that you picked for this video, but I'm disappointed that in this category you couldn't come up with a Norton that was heart-breakingly beautiful, even if over-priced and impractical. If a Norton isn't beautiful, who would ever buy it?

    New player in this game: the Cfmoto Cl-X 700 Heritage and CL-X 700 Sport, cheaper than a XSR700, with a Cross plane twin, the Sport version comes with fully adj. KYB forks and shock, slipper clutch, Brembo brakes and cilinder, cruise control, abs by continental, 2 riding modes thanks to the ride-by-wire, and styling by Kiska (same design house of the Vitpilen), and being that CFmoto is the engine partner for KTM, you can trust in them. The Heritage is more relaxed in the ergo side, but has cheaper budget parts, and cheaper price to reflect. These bikes are so underappreciated. They have better features than a Royal Enfield, better styling IMHO than a XSR and the roar of a crossplane twin...what more do you want?

    No Honda CB650R? or the CB125R/CB1000R. Probably not a table topper, they don't have clip ons but do have a new style cafe look with some accessories thrown at it.

    Sorry Bob but, I can't get my head around why the MV Augusta was included in that line up of "café racer". Surely it more on lines of sports category. I don't know, maybe I'm missing something there. Shouldn't be on that list. That's my opinion anyway. Please 🙏 keep the reviews coming through Bob, I'm always looking forward for what you got coming next. ✌🏼
