    This isn't a performance car, I wish care reviewers would remember that and quit complaining about the performance. Drive it like it should and it will be great.

    So much hate towards Nissan but I just want to say there are good ownership experiences too.
    I have a 2013 Nissan Pathfinder with a cvt it has 79k miles and recently gave it to live in mother in law. Never had one single problem. Regular maintenance every 5k miles. My wife has a 2015 Rogue select. 44k miles, not one problem ever. Regular maintenance every 5k miles. We have a 2017 Nissan Titan SV (used almost exclusively for towing our rv.) 40k miles, not one single problem ever. Regular maintenance done every 5k miles. Just recently bought a 2020 Rogue Sport SL. 3k mikes so far. They all look like new, no wear in the paint, the seats all look like new no wear in the bolsters or seat bottoms or carpet...
    I live in south central Texas, middle of San Antonio, flat land... they work pretty good here.

Nobody is saying Nissans can't be good vehicles it's just usually they don't last anymore due to common problems that Nissan refuses to fix.

  • @ronkemperful

    Great video as always! The Nissan Sentra has a special place in my heart. My 1995 model drove my grandfather to my grandmother's funeral, I drove the car 500 miles a week until it had well over 100,000 miles. And of all the small cars that I owned it was the most comfortable and quiet riding (most of my cars were glorified pogo-sticks!). But Nissan for the past 20 years went astray with the Sentra, cutting back on sound insulation, cheapening on build quality; lets hope that this one is different!

    I continue to say it... if this new Sentra and Rogue are any signs of where Nissan is headed in the future, they have nothing to be concerned about. Plain and simple, this is GOOD and SOLID product at a decent price. People can harp on the CVT all they want, but the people that are REALLY buying these cars could give a rats behind about it. As long as it's smooth (and of course more reliable), it is not a concern. I am glad that Nissan prioritized handling and composure along with ride comfort. From all the reviews I've seen it seems to be pretty solid in the handling department... It is a GREAT starting point for a Nismo/Turbo option. Nissan can sell plenty of these without a more powerful option, but I think they need some solid performance cars to help with their brand image and reinvigorate the Nissan enthusiast crowd, which has been neglected for a while now.

      A lot of people say this, and then you ask when the last time it was that they replaced the transmission fluid... "what transmission fluid" is usually the answer, when it should be done in 25,000 mile intervals. Most automatics have fluid that is rated "for life" or 130K miles, so people don't realize cheap Jatco CVTs can't handle that.

    28/37mpg is abysmal for an all-new car with a CVT that's supposed to help efficiency. I think it's worst in class now. Even Hyundai/Kia are squeezing 41mpg hwy out of their Elantra and Forte. The 14.3cu ft trunk is par for course. Most of the cars in this class have around 14cu ft.
    Here's the thing about modern day Nissans. They're stylish. They're very refined. They generally sell them at an appealing price compared to Honda and Toyota. The problem is, they have horrendous long-term reliability, most of it being CVT transmissions that generally don't make it anywhere near 100k. Often, not even 75k miles. My Versa transmission was on its way out before 40k and yes I changed the CVT fluid when the dealer and service book said I should. A friend's Sentra CVT went out at 56k miles. Replacement transmission failed within weeks. A better bet would be to either spend more money and get a Civic or Corolla or save yourself thousands and get a Hyundai Elantra or Kia Forte.

    And it does exactly what everyone buying a car like this wants. Which is how it should be judged. But as with ninety eight percent of car reviewers Nathan has to pretend a lack of sports car handling and acceleration is a major negative in this class of car. Does the Civic excite? The Corolla, maybe? The Impreza, Elantra, or perhaps the Cruz? No. None of them are designed to be anything other than comfortable, efficient commuter cars and the only way to judge them is against each other. Even the Mazda Three isn't really all that amazing. It's just more sporty than it's class mates. And a CVT in this class of car is fairly common so no damage for that as compared to the competition. Yes, a solid eight speed might feel better the truth is all the cars in this class would still be relatively slow because they've gained a lot of size and weight but not the power needed to offset it. The Sentra, Altima and Maxima are all within a hairsbreadth of being the same size on the inside. The Sentra actually has the most combined legroom at 81.4 inches , 110.3 cubic feet of interior volume and, as mentioned by Nathan, the same 14.3 cubic foot trunk as the Maxima. The Maxima's leg room comes in at 79.2 inches combined with a 110.7 cubic inch interior volume. It's wider but offers less rear headroom by almost an inch. That could actually mean more than it's deficit in total leg room. The Altima offers the least combined leg room at 79 inches but it's wider and taller than the other two offering 116.2 cubic feet of interior space and a 1.1 cubic foot larger trunk at 15.4 CuFt. All of them offer most of the same safety and convenience features even if only as options. So practically speaking they're all basically the same car with increasing levels of power and handling but the Maxima really doesn't shine for it's price compared to a loaded Altima. Buy an Infiniti if you want to step up from the Altima and buy the Sentra if you don't need the bit of extra refinement and power the Altima offers.

    • @dedreandixon4620
      @dedreandixon4620 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Keep in mind, the Maxima is the oldest of the bunch. It's tricky because the Maxima introduced the current design language, so it still looks somewhat fresh next to all of Nissans newest sedans, but it is pretty much last gen Nissan in regards to engineering. I think the next Maxima will be the better comparison to the newest Sentra and other Nissan sedans. I am guessing that the Nissan IMS concepts previews the next gen Maxima, which means it would shift to the new electrified platform which will have more efficient packaging and help boost its interior volume over the others.

My brother and me feel we will sell our cars (his is just plain old and worn out) and down the road one of us will take over Dad's car. He has harder financing so I feel I will be the one looking for maybe a new car come spring or summer. The Toyota Corolla .. gosh it is a good value now .. I've never been in the Toyota "love" group but it is almost like Chrysler in the old days of the Neon .. just good content and overall value. The 2021 Elantra looks really interesting. And this one and the Versa (which does not have the zero gravity seats .. that might make the Sentra make more sense as that is why I ended up in Neon's "a-way back" .. comfy seat, lots of room (left hand .. distance to window .. room for feet (including height and not bumping into "stuff" under there) .. steering wheel in front of you (not toward the center a bit .. often in smaller cars .. things that drive you crazy once you notice them).

    I’ve worked with Nissan in the past and I’ve I’ll unhappily day that they’ve fallen off hard. They still have the potential to make decent cars but most consumers know that CVTs are notorious for failing after 30,000 miles, particularly if you don’t change the fluid every 30,000 miles. Aside from the reliability issues the CVT just takes away from the whole driving experience. This leaves you with numb laggy acceleration and limited feedback. The naturally aspirated engines are pretty good but the CVTs can’t handle the torque that V6s produce and even some of the 4 cylinders. You would think that after 15+ years of transmission failures Nissan would’ve figured out how to make these work but nope. I still run across 2018+ models with 35,000 miles and the transmission has gone out. If you do own a Nissan or any CVT I’d strongly urge you to change your transmission fluid every 30,000 miles regardless of what the dealers say or how you drive. Change your fluid every 30,000 miles and it will usually last longer. After 30,000 miles the transmission fluid has the tendency to oxidize on long trips and under excessive load such as hills or mountains. This causes the unit to overheat and go into limp mode. Often by the time it goes into limp mode it’s already starting to fail.

    • @ShockinglyBleh
      @ShockinglyBleh 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nissan transmissions are known for being more sensitive, You really have to do your research on the year/model/engine on whether or not a Nissan CVT will be decent and even then you need to be rigorous with the transmission fluid swaps. In my opinion it's just not worth the trouble since there are other car manufactures that don't have these quality control issues on their transmissions.

    Everyone seems to be really hating on this vehicle.. but like, as a student, would this vehicle be worth it on purchasing? I don’t really need a car to be sporty, I mainly drive in cities/highways, and like use it to go to work. Would this vehicle not last for those kinds of trips?
