Xperia 1V owner here. I tested out the bokeh mode recently, bc I have never used it until now. The thing is, in specific lighting conditions the Portrait mode does make photos with blown out backgrounds. But this is only in Portraith mode and not in every situation. It seems like the HDR processing is not working in this mode. While MKBHD's photo is also correct and real, the phone is capable to a lot more.
i have an xperia 5ii and i think the hdr gets turned off when eye auto focus kicks in, it needs all the math power of the gpu and cpu for that. i hope they will find a middle way cause i love sony and i will buy a sony again. but they do have to keep improving otherwise ill switch maybe someday
I think Sony should adopt the software approach when outputting photos using auto mode to attract point and shoot audiences, and in manual mode, they should stay with their current approach. That way they can win both types of audiences.
@@ThroughJermainesLens What would be interesting is, if Sony uses camera profiles like on Fuji for the auto mode. They would have instantly the best photos of them all. Without losing the photos identity.
thing is that probably costs a lot to develop, and Sony is for a limited market, so doubt they can justify it when they already spend a good amount on their own camera apps@@s.tunafish
wrong this is part of the SCAM...Everytime something works and gives the people control of their own devices, here comes someone peddling garbage to remove it and create more ways to give the people less personal control. In other words, they took the physical headphone jack to market more wireless crap to have next to your brain. Wired headphones and making the physical camera means you have MANUAL control and you will not need to buy the same phone over and over. That is exactly how they bullied the camera market to try and make people stop using film and DSLR cameras, by LYING and saying software makes photography better.
Personally, I agree with you. At the same time, I do think Sony needs give general users really good auto mode, possibly with good film emulations. Great editing btw.
Sony isnt interest4ed in brainless point and shoot users like you and if you want point and shoot then please buy a Scamdung or an Apple and let them WET NURSE you through taking a video or a photo!
I've long noticed how different the general phone reviewers review the Xperia phones as different from a reviewer who is a photographer. The latter is usually very impressed.
I don't even care too much about photography, I ordered this phone due to it having a great screen without a curve, no holepunch, front facing dual speakers, and upgradable storage. That being said I'm also looking forward to start playing with the camera once the phone arrives
Respectfully disagree. I have the 1V. For the amount of Sony is asking for this phone, it should have a better auto mode. They have made great progress on that front, but still lag behind the competition. Why can't we shoot portrait video in 4k, for example? Why does it still struggle with strong light sources? I love the phone, but sometimes i dont have the time or patience to edit. This js where a strong auto mode is handy.
If you buy a Sony 1V you aren't going for the auto mode, while i can agree that they can do a better job at that, which I have stated sometimes as well (not in this video, not the target of the video, this was to inform) The sony phones are meant to be used manually, they have the approach of a DSLR, one where you set it up. it is marketed as such as well, and you do a big injustice if you don't showcase or highlight that at all, and he doesn't in his reviews of sony's at all.
If this helps, put the camera mode in AUTO instead of BASIC and then set your preferred settings for Focus. I set mine to Center and it works just fine for me.
mr. Jermaine! Don't think of it as of an accusion, but. How many other high-end phones have you tried along with the Xperia? Did you know that other smartphones like Vivo, Samsung, Oppo, Xiaomi also offer manual shooting modes? Did you know that, except for Oppo, they also offer manual shutter speed, ISO, white balance settings in JPG as well as in video? What most youtubers defending Sony fail to understand is that beauty and quality are two things. People captured beautiful images of nice things at all times, including 20 years ago with first digital cameras that had 2-4 megapixels total. You've shown a lot of well composed images in this video. But should you have tried comparing Sony directly to Oppo, Vivo or Xiaomi, you'd see what the problem is. Manual mode gives you better control of exposure; white balance lets you control color. But Sony fails to deliver in dynamic range and detail department. No manual mode can turn off that terrible noise reduction, no manual mode can fix blurry tele lens. After trying tele lenses on Vivo X100 Pro (best in the market currently), Oppo Find X7 Ultra, well even the iPhone 15 Pro Max - each of these devices shows outstanding amounts of detail in RAWs as well as in JPGs, whereas Xperia 1V just is TOO soft, its detail rendering is absolutely unacceptable for the price tier Sony puts the device in. I loved Sony, but they HAVE to keep up with the market. And lastly. Even if Sony's detail level was on par with the competition. The Image Quality is still on a smartphone level. ANY half decent APS-C camera (and I own a few) is head and shoulders above any smartphone including best cameraphones I own (and I most all of them - xiaomi, vivo, oppo, iphone, sony). It's just pointless to tinker around with images from a smartphones when I can bring a camera and get a much more decent material. True, I don't always bring my camera. But it makes no sense for a phone to have weak auto mode. I even shoot in full auto on my Fujifilm camera. Why can't a sony phone do that? Sony just brings less to the table, while asks more. All smartphones on the market offer manual controls in photo, all of them. All of them offer shooting in RAW format. Some of them offer 11mm ultrawide. Vivo x90pro+ offers two tele lenses - 50mm standard lens along with a 90mm portrait lens, both of which have exceptionally high quality optics. Sony offers a blurry tele lens and a stingy 16mm ultrawide lens with the same specs they had introduced in Xperia 1iii. Three year old camera tech with blurry lenses incapable of shooting decent quality in auto mode for $$$$? Thank you. I'll pass.
I have tried Many, Including from Samsung, Xiaomi and Vivo, heck my main device is the Xiaomi 13 Pro, and I love what the results are on it. However when it comes to Sony, people seem to miss what these devices are about, telling a story while leaving out the middle pages, look at his reviews of Sony for a great example, he leaves out what Sony is CLEARLY marketing to, manual photography, a phone for proper photography and video as well, it is not meant to be one where it does things like Samsung, Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo and so on, and that is clear the moment you open the app, but also look at their page showcasing how to approach it. computational photography also comes at a cost, these phones often use different layers to get a result with different exposures and so on to put together 1 image, which in a lot of cases will be fine, but it comes at a cause, images often look over processed, and lose the soul of the shot, not to mention they often don't look natural. Xiaomi does a very solid job at it, but doesn't come with the same approach as Sony, it is more basic, where sony is really leaning into the approach of a proper Camera. Now for the noise section I agree if it is the Sony Xperia 1V and the zoom lens, though I heard they had a software update, but I only had the sony as a loan device, so cannot see the result myself, but i did mention it in my full take for the Sony Xperia 1V camera review. I did hear rumors they will upgrade the sensor on the next gen, but well we are dealing with the current Gen soooo But if you watch MKBHD reviews (again nothing against him at all) you will see that for instance in his Sony Xperia 1V review, not only does he say things he would like to see different resulting in a phone that exsist in the form of the Sony Xperia 5 series... Which I don't get why he mentions it then, while he would mention that for other brands (like the size) But also he doesn't use the camera again how it is marketed, from memory he even used sony xperia 1IV shots... not from the phone he was using (again could be incorrect been a while) But he doesn't showcase what this phone is targeting, what it is meant to be used like. if I would look at his Sony reviews, as a photographer (with still a lot of learning to do granted) I would steer away from Sony, because he is showing just the basic mode at takes pictures in that, and very basic ones at it... But I wouldn't know the amount of detail the Sony captures after that, I wouldn't know what you can do with this thing and how good that manual photography is. For better people to truly showcase, just look at the 2 in the decsiption, and see how amazing sony is in photography, those shots often cannot be done with computational photography. again nothing against MKBHD but... in this case.. he is using the phone wrong for how it is suppose to be used, teaching no one what this device can actually do, and I mean that respectfully. thank you also for staying respectful as well! These kind of dicussions are perfectly fine! And yes I am very curious how the Vivo X100 series does, and the new Xiaomi 14 Ultra that should come up at some point!
not to defend MKBHD but those pictures were simply point and shoot which is what most people would want from their camera phone. Yes Sony show you how to use their camera but the average consumer just wants a phone you can use to just point and shot rather than having to learn to use a camera phone like its a professional camera.
We dont want to be an average consumer at all sorry. We really appreciate how Sony Xperia encourage us educate us how to fully utilize the real art of photography in Sony phone. We dont want to be the AI slave only, we want to be creative and creator with our own touch and identitiy. Sorry!!!!
Do check out www.conceptscreator.com/shop to buy shots to support future coverage Extra note! This is NOT meant as an attack torwards MKBHD, but it is a very important factor when it comes to mobile photography and showcasing how they perform with how Sony attended it to do! Stay respectful.
Thanks for the important point you make in the video. At this day and age of a ton of self proclaimed reviewers, many of whom approach the review with their own preferences and yardsticks and quite a few with real knowledge on the topic. They tend to pass judgement. As they say creating a product is difficult, criticism is easy. Yes, Sony surely has faults but so do others. They also have their strengths. Highlighting one and hiding the other is the judgement I refer to. Thank you for making this important point. Thumbs up.
@@nilanjanbanerjee6330 No problem! And yes Sony is by NO means without fault, I did a video where I give my honest take on the xperia 1V, and there are some things that need work, and I stated that as well because that is what you suppose to do. But if you review a device like a Sony... use it how they market it, showcase what they want you to get out of the phone. if I watch his video about sony, I am not like: Ok NOW I know what this phone can do, rather I want to have it or not, rather this is worth my money or not. Heck if I base it on his, I would turn away and look somewhere else without even knowing the potentiol it has when used by the right people.
I saw a video review about the sony xperia 5 v or something and was blown away by how good the pictures and videos were when used like an actual camera woth some built in filters rather than relying on its point-and-shoot auto mode. It was probably in-line with if not netter than the samsungs, iphones and pixels.
Loved the video, man. I think we need to keep both perspectives in mind. I think a section dedicated to creatives and editing capabilities would be cool in the smartphone tests.
yes and that is why I said I know the audience he has :) But I feel if you don't utilize it as marketed then why bother showing it? And that is for the reviews as well.
Another thing is people are so inclined to prefer extremely saturated and over-processed photos compared to natural light photos that the sony offers (im looking at you samsung apple amd pixel)
Xperia 1 IV user here. I enjoy using this phone so much and planning to get the next gen Sony Xperia. I never liked the auto HDR of other phones. I like to take control of the pics I am taking and I am happy I get to use actual lens to do so even when zooming. Digital zooming is minimal or non existent. My telephoto shots compared to other phones are not what some youtubers make the phone to be"bad". My point is...even the 1 mark IV is wonderful and when I see clueless people reviewing the camera prowess of the Sony Xperia devices makes me sad cos they have no idea what they are saying. Even their new game enhancer allows you to choose where to direct excess heat to on the apps added to it
I totally agree with THIS review of the Xperia. I kept telling my friends the MKBHD video was disingenuous at best. If he didn't not like features like the near 4k display and the large screen he should have just used the Xperia 5V. He also never mentioned the Xperia 10 series. In my experience, the only time I take good pictures is when I have a Sony phone, with my current device being a Samsung Galaxy the photos are generally good if you know nothing about photography but are consistently average at best even when using Pro photo mode. This is why I just stopped using phones to take pictures until i get an Xperia again. The only thing I really really hate about the phone are the size 10 bezels. It's just not good these days.
This! The Pro Mode photos are always hit or miss. And 9 times out of 10, tripod be damed, what focus? Pro video works. Galaxy S10+ and S20 FE. will be tossing this soon for either this or the incoming 1 VI
Great video as always. I watched the MKBHD review and completely agree. I was expecting the Xiaomi 13 Ultra and Sony to come higher up, but not at the bottom. MKBHD seems to target the average consumer audience who are really only interested in photos that are ready for social media, if you like that style. I'll be honest and say that most of my photos are point and shoot, but are mostly of my kids, who don't stay still long enough to get a decent photo most of the time. I had considered something like a Pixel for point and shoot but to me the photos look too artificial. I've always liked photography. I just don't have the time for it. I actually ended up getting a Xiaomi 13 Pro after watching your videos. I wanted to to have something with a bit more control and a fast shutter (for kid photos), so that if I do get the time, I can try and take something more professional looking. I've only had a few occasions, but even after 6 months, I am still impressed with this phone/camera.
Thank you! And yeah MKBHD just has that audience, and I can understand that part of it, but it is just unfair towards what Sony is aiming at. And glad i helped you of course with the decision on the Xiaomi and that you are pleased! Seriously glad to hear that!!!
You do realize this was something that people voted on right? He literally just took the pictures and people picked blindly. All this means is that next to another image people preferred the other ones.
@@sidersproductions941 see the comments I made, it is not just that, there is a bigger story to it. and I know people voted, with showing half the story of what the Xperia is about because of the the user
@@sidersproductions941 I am well aware that this was something that people voted for. It just shows that the majority of people who voted are probably just your average consumer that don't have a clue about proper photography. If people like that sort of HDR, oversaturated, over sharpened look, that's good for them, but the target audience for Sony and to an extent Xiaomi is not your average consumer. It is aimed at people who are into professional photography, that will put some time and effort in to get the desired look. This is probably why Sony phones have never really sold extremely well, as they have never aimed for the social media ready crowd. If they did that, their point and shoot photos would probably be similar to all the others. Having a reviewer review a product the way it wasn't designed to be used isn't really doing the product justice.
i went from a sony xperia 5ii to a google pixel 6a and i was underimpressed with the pixel 6a, now fixed my 5ii again and still rocking it. when i make a photo with the 6a and zoom in somewhere its blocky and ugly. with the 5ii its not that ugly. and i do want a headphone jack for sure
It must also be said that Sony has greatly improved the auto mode for photo and video in the fifth generation of its phones 1 & 5 v And now I have Xperia 1v The best phone I have ever used and I have never regretted buying it
I love the Xperia 1 V it motivates me to take pictures...I find that Auto mode is pretty good for point and shoot compared to Basic...but yes the capabilities are more on the Manual features
i was so intrigued because ALL I ever heard about the recent sony xperia phones were that they had amazing cameras and that the portrait mode got significantly better.
Nice video i recently picked up the experia 1 mark v it's excellent still getting my head round most of the settings but overall its a great camera phone
Im totally agree with you.. Sony should have marketed their high end phone to be full manual camera capable smartphone.. and they should also provide decent photo editing and video editing app to really compete with mirrorless..
I understand that sony phone are not designed to be point and shoot cameras, and that they often require manual adjustments to achieve the desired results. However, this does not mean that the point-and-shoot should be this horrible. In fact, I believe that the majority of people use their smartphone cameras as point-and-shoot devices even sony users, so it is important that they make p&s at least decent enough, i am sure you will agree that some of those comparison pictures where outright bad
the point and shot isn't that horrible, see the 2 shots that were point and shoot. But the most important part is simply put that if you don't utilize the phone properly and inform people properly what this phone is meant to be about, then better just not add it, you aren't showing what it can do, and that is a big part of being a reviewer. He could for instance show: this is how it performs automatic, but it isn't meant for that, go in to pro mode and then this is what it can do. He does this often with sony, and many of the more normal reviewers do that too. If you are there to inform about the photography, do it properly, and highlight the cabapility well. You cannot tell a story, have a intro of the story and the characther and then end the story without having the plot inside of it, that is basically what has been happening with those kinds of reviews.
@@ThroughJermainesLens had they included the manual mode photos it wouldn't be a fair comparison, measuring stick should be same for every phone... Even if they added the manual mode photo every Sony fan would've said 'thats not how it's done, it should ve been done like this or that' every person have different taste for the style of photo... And they adding that Sony phones are made for manual mode and not point and shoot it really doesnt make sense when Sony itself does not say that, if they really want people to use manual mode they should add a warning message at the start... Let me ask you one when you first time open the camera app does it opens in manual mode or point and shoot model? You might get my point I understand you like Sony phone cameras and wants to let others know that it's not a bad camera but you should understand their reasoning too for treating every phones same way...
That comparison doesn't stand up at all. Those other brands aren't aimed at all torwards that kind of photography, their strength is in just point and shoot, heck on the pixel 7A from memory there is not even a pro mode... The sony is meant to be captured with manual photography, that is the strength and that is a fact, and ones you use that it will create amazing results. And you can see that everywhere with Sony, on their channel shots on how to use manual mode, what to play around with and more. THAT is the target for the phone, and should be highlighted, and I am not only talking about the video of best of 2023, he doesn't even do that in his reviews of it.
@@WaqarKhanHD You make a very valid point and as a fellow consumer I understand your thoughts. But I disagree with it. My take is when you're reviewing a product and trying to compare it with others, you need not compare them only on the strengths of some of those products while ignoring others. Eg Apple, Samsung, Google etc. make great phones which take popular point & shoot photos. However that's their strength and philosophy and it caters to a major set of consumers. Sony offers a different kind of strength which none of these companies are even capable of offering in the near term. So that should be treated as a Sony advantage and a lack in others. That's the point this video is trying to make. And I agree with that. A consumer has a right to choose. Whether they want to use p&s or manual photography and if they find p&s of one brand better over another, it's their prerogative and they vote with their wallet. However (frankly I don't watch mkbhd etc. that frequently) the job of self proclaimed reviewers should be neutral approach based. Otherwise you come across as a fan. All the best.
@@nilanjanbanerjee6330 it wasn't a review it was just a camera comparison, not even video just single photo comparison, and when you compare things you can't give preference to anyone or others will say give this or that with my beloved brand, for example iphone user's would've said show the videos too because that's where iphones shines, but as I said it wasn't a detailed review it was just a one picture comparison
I think the best option for sony is to buy google camera hdr algorithm license and put it on the auto mode. I know this is kinda ridiculous but with very good camera hardware and software, the results will be amazing
Thing is, that would fit at all, Sony is going for a natural photography approach, google's approach isn't that. Don't get me wrong you could get some people in from it, but it wouldn't fit Sony
My Experia 1 V is a camera that puts creativity in my hands that also happens to be a phone!!. I don't think phone reviewers should review this phone - it should be photography channels and sites who are more qualified to do this. One thing so far as I can see that a DSLR's do that camera phones don't is f stop using a real iris therefore depth of field control. I suppose this is addressed partly by the bokeh control. I think most users of this camera/phone will already be experienced photoshoppers using RAW files, etc. I would not advise anyone to expect great results at a mad party, for instance, where quick reaction is needed. Save that for the Google Pixel!!
agreed! And 2 of the best ones I of course linked! I still have enough to learn when it comes to mobile photography and setting it up the best, but I know that very well. BUT at least I am using it as it should be used!
There is actually a problem that using Xperia as a mirrorless camera compared to google pixel. Background first, for Xperia I got XZ1C 2C Xperia1 1ii 1iii before, now i'm using 5IV. For other mid to high end phones, I have Pixel 4/6Pro, iPhone 12 mini for now. The biggest issue for Xperia when Im trying to use it as a RAW camera, is the dynamic range of single shot RAW is not as good as Pixel's 14bit computational RAW, that in one click, you got wide-dynamic-range jpeg+dng computed from multi frames, with Zero-Shutter-Lag, with short live video recorded at the same time. Xperia's RAW is single shot raw stores in 10bit dng. The limitation of sensor size restricts how many photons the sensor can store before become overexposure. There's not enough information for me to trust that everytime i can get better image through post-edit other than pre-HDR. It feels different from using Pixel as a RAW camera. For Pixel, I'm comfident that in most situations, the jpeg looks worse than Xperia, but also I can believe its computational RAW will store enough infomation in the shot for me to fix it at post. So when I go travelling, so that no one cares what i'm using for taking photo, i'll bring a Pixel as camera, not as a phone. I'll not bring my RP, it's too heavy. My Xperia automatically "downgraded" from a all-in-one device back to a wallet+chatting device. When it comes to daily life, or point and shoot time, Xperia's basic mode and sometimes P mode are enough to beat every single smartphone I played. (P mode with HDR on, changing exposure compensation when needed.) But when I need lightroom, Pixel's RAW performs better. Here's the problem, Xperia does not sit in the scope of reviewers' review method. Xperia is not a Pro camera that you always need RAW to show its performance, and it does not have outstanding RAW performance. It also is not a simple point and shoot camera that when you shoot you only just press the shutter button and done, because Xperia gives you back the control of the exporsure. Please try P mode with HDR on and play with exposure compensation, It is not a global exposure changing. +EV brings dark brighter but not so bright places to overexpose. Pixel has it's "global" exposure dial, and a "how much brighter for dark?" dial, but the direct output image looks just worse. But why not use Pixel as a phone, you may ask. Pixel 6 Pro (and later generations of pros also) is too wide and heavy to use in single hand. I don’t want to bring a brick to anywhere in my pocket everyday... I feel like Xperia is well designed by engineers in Sony to show what will be an Android Alpha is. So when people treat it as a point and shoot phone, it is actually not, it is a camera, you decides what the image will look like. But when people treated it as a camera, it is also not, it is a phone, it uses smartphone sensors. I think this is why most of the reviewers do not understand, or their audience do not understand what Xperia is.
I own a Xiaomi 13 Pro and I love shooting Leica Authentic with it! Granted, it doesn't shoot like a Samsung or an iPhone but to me, there's just something about the way it shoots especially portraits, street or landscapes that's somehow gives me a much better feeling overall to how it's composed! Asking for a tip tho! RAW+color grading (filter) or Pro Auto+filter or Leica Authentic? Which would be better overall in your experience with the 13 Pro? Amazing shots btw!
Yes, there is just something to those shots!! When it comes to the question, well if you want to shoot raw on the Xiaomi 13 Pro it can only do Leica Vibrant sadly, it doesn't have RAW+Authenthic, but I guess till a degree I can understand that choice, because the Authenthic kinda already does the job for you till a degree, and is honestly decent to edit as well :) But unless you want to edit a good amount, I would prefer Auto+Authenthic over RAW+Vibrant.
Sony have good cameras. I think they can do it in a phone like having an autofocus in portrait modes with DSLR qualities. They don't need A.I to do the magic. They have the hardware. They can get the attention of more consumers.
Well, he knows what he is doing, but he intentionally said he won't change a single setting when shooting the pictures so it would come closest to the experience of an average user.
@@transporter06csf Because they have no clue of what they are buying. You can't tell me that the majority of people who buy their phones will actually take their time to research or something. Look at most apple users, they will get the newest and most expensive without even knowing the difference to the prior one's.
Exactly! I bought the phone. I love the phone most of the time. The form factor is awesome. I absolutely love using it. Software updates are a few months behind my Pixel, which is way ahead of Samsung, at least in terms of my last Samsung phone, which is many, many years ago. The cameras and the camera apps are great. BUT I can't count on the auto camera. It is like it is always on manual mode. Even in auto, in anything other than great light, I needed to make adjustments. And in low light, forget it. And that is the deal breaker. I shoot a lot of travel photos and I really care about the quality of the output. But I also bought the Pixel 8 Pro because I have been fully into Pixels since the beginning. And Pixel doesn't give me that sweet Sony control. But it absolutely delivers a very good photo every time. Sony fails far too often. It is frustrating. The Sony phone is just so good. But it doesn't work as a pocket camera, which it is first and foremost. I'm sad to get rid of it, but the Xperia, even if it is not meant for point and shoot, I'm sorry to say, we are pointing and shooting most of the times. This needs to be the priority, and all the enthusiast stuff should be right there when I want it. Make a point and shoot, sell phones.
But that was the point, it was set to auto on all phones and the results spoke for themselves. None of the phones he tested used pro mode. Although it could have been clearer.
Oof, gotta say, watching the Xperia tank in MKBHD's camera test stung even though I saw it coming a mile away. Remember, Xperia 1? Yeah, I loved it too, all the way up to the 1 III. But then? Auto mode went from "decent" to "disaster" real quick. Snapping a casual pic became a gamble - good photo or blurry mess? Speaking of gambles, my Xperia 5 II (bless its SoftBank soul) got a grand total of... one update. Yep, from Android 10 to 11. That's it. For a phone I dropped a small fortune on, that's just criminal. So yeah, big Sony fan here, but until they get their basics together - especially that "point and shoot" mode - I'm sadly waving goodbye.
well it depends, if you use basic yeah can be a hit and mis, but use auto and the pictures will be fine. now updates in terms of software I agree, they should support their phones longer.
Well said 👏 Yeah, it's not the phone for all folks but if you are into certain niche demand, this device would turn into the best tool you've ever had.
Ive been using 1V since its launch and honestly i dont understand 2 types of people first is the once who never even touched the phone and complains about it as if they daily used it and it sucked for them and the 2nd type that complains about the price yet they will be quick to buy Iphone 15 pro max for same price or samsung fold for double the price. It really doesnt make any sense to me. Does Iphones and samsungs better at other things ofc no doubt but sony is approaching the market by their own point of view and it works for people such as me who enjoys the camera and enjoy the phone its self, yes i still use wired headphones, yes i download my music in flac files, and yes i enjoy watching 4k movies on the 1V more than any other screen and alot more. Camera wise people who bash the point and shoot of the 1V i dont think its fair to say its not good without trying the phone yourself because it is good its even as good as pixel or iphone as well with more natural look to it
@@ThroughJermainesLens the only complaint that I honestly agree with is the slow roll of software updates but even then I do understand the reason behind it other than that it is a phone that can do it all without any problem
@@Mckaluge oh yeah that i agree with as well, that is something I can fully understand, but the whole "well this camera is shit, see results" while not doing the phone proper justice because using it like it is not meant to be used at all... Like of course you're getting not amazing results like you would on manual. And often those people also use basic.. not auto 😂
@@ThroughJermainesLens to be honest even basic some of the best photos I shot were on the basic mode because I had to take the phone out press the shutter twice to take a shot in less than a 5 second time frame of seeing a scene and it delivered everytime without fail. It does make me curious how they use the phone because for 2 month I tried my best to get shitty shots and it kept delivering good shots even at the worst environment and for someone in London aka always bad weather for photography the phone still surprised me alot
but basic mode compared to the rest is the weakness, I would say only keep auto ^^ it will do fine in normal situations, but auto for me without a doubt get's better result ^^@@Mckaluge
I think over time some have come to prefer over saturated and processed photos. Point and shoot is important but the fact that so many cameras that photographers and videographers know are top tier, yet scored so low was wild to me. Great video bro 🔥
Nah, I am not buying a phone that needs so much work to just click a few pics. I would rather buy a used mirrorless or compact camera for that and it would still be cheaper. Think of the situation like this, you are at a place and once in a moment stuff happens and you are busy playing with the setting instead of clicking photos with the press of a button. That's why Iphone is always the king. Even friends old iphone from 2017 can take better videos than my s20 at any moment. I get embrassed each time when we bring out the phone and take a quick video of an event and check it later. I have to waste time editing it to upload it on social media while he just uploads it directly without Any editing.
I mean i mostly agree with the message in this video and i am actually holding my Xperia 5 III in my hands right now but i'd argue that for one u can make any picture look good in lightroom and well MKBHD and other reviewers are making videos for masses and so they use methods of comparison that masses will find useful, and Sony of course isn't a phone for masses, so of course that according to tests and standards Marques sets for phones Xperias will fail. I wouldn't say they offer the wrong information or anything. His video about the phone was actually pretty fair. And i mean tbh MKBHD isn't even like a real in depth reviewer anymore anyway, he's more of a high production tech entertainer more than anything.
I would accept a simple: this phone isn't the best for a quick point and shoot (btw seems he is using basic not auto) but as reviewer at least highlight how it is targetted. And then with his 1V he said what i want different.. that turns it into a 5, those are points I cannot agree with. Imagine if you look for a review on the phone, his will be high in the search, if you look at his video you will never know what it is cable of
In short, get an iPhone, galaxy or pixel as a daily driver for fast and nice shots. They make great photos with point and shoot. If you want art... Use a Sony.
I have mark 4 xperia and to be honest when you tweek the settings you can really outshine all other brands and make some amazing photos. But the truth is point nad shoot is the type of mass demand that people have for mobile phones. If you want some extremely detailed photos where you can change many of the settings they just buy a big professional camera. I do think sony can create the best of both worlds. Have a great automatic point and shoot and a very detailed settings app like the video/cinema pro and photo pro apps.
Sony is trying to bridge the professional mirrorles cameras with mobile phones. The result is the Xperia 1V. They don't trying to compete with the others on who has the best HDR or fake bokeh. People nowadays are lazy, they want everything ready without any effort. Sony Xperia is a device made for photography lovers they don't follow the trends of social media. They are the top dog in sensor technology, and they sell tons of them to everyone. Like it or not, they already winning.
I switched from the Xperia 5IV to an iphone 15+. While I do think the iphone's camera are better for the format, there are things that the Xperia does far better. White balance is one thing. The Autofocus is way better on the xperia. Action shots as well. But for point and shoot I prefer the Iphone 15 most of the times. And when I want to take my time I use my Canon DSLR. So it wasn't for me in the end, but still the Xperias are way better in auto than most people think.
And that is perfectly fine :) And I can honestly understand it, I just want the proper narration to go out when it comes to Sony's and showcase what it can do, but also that it does need more work
Im a photographer using Sony mirrorless camera but i can’t imagine using this kind of camera app in my phone. When im taking photos with my phone i just want to quickly capture the moment and move on and most phones priced under 1/3rd of this model are able to pull out decent shot regardless of settings and conditions. If you want to get into photography you can literally buy entry level mirrorless or even used dslr and something like iPhone 11/12 for the price of this Sony Xperia.
Im looking at the 1v currently love the package.. im definitely willing to apend the time and learn all the manual modes etc... i am curious maybe you can help, how is the aspect ratio for viewing Twitter, Instagram Facebook as i do like to interact with ppl on theae platforms... Ive read some atuff gets cut out or its nit a pleasant experience for looking through social media?? Great video again btw mate...
Great video! It's very unfortunate that most reviews are comparing photos with heavy post image processing, against the Sony's mediocre point and click - when the fun happens in Manual mode! I love my 1v - and I'm looking forward to whatever comes next! Keep up the great videos mate!
Thank you very much! And I agree!!! When it comes to Sony it isn't about the overprocessed b.s! I hate it, and it seriously can lose soul! Now is this phone for everyone? no, but if you love photography this is one of the best! (But they need to make a seperate gallery app because I HATE google photo's and I hate the big icons in the swipe down menu from google, and seeing how they are close to it is to stock we have the same on the sony's) And I shall keep it up ^^ I am trying my best hehe
One of the things that's slightly limiting the Xperia phone's capability is its unpopularity. There are a million and one camera-related accessories such as lens and filter cases available for the iPhone despite it not really needing those, while the Xperias pretty much get none. I had to modify a generic case to get it to accept something as simple as an ND filter.
I love the output of the Sony. But, when I want to snap a quick photo of my daughter, I don't have the luxury of tinking with the photo settings! I want it to do both
Point and shoot has greatly improved to be fair Yes you get the most out of it when playing with the settings, etc. But more often than not, I use it on auto, and I'm very pleased with the results. They're better than my iPhone
Ok finally: I can type properly now as I had cut my fingers open whilst water cooling my PC (yes it can be done and the finger stitching is not hurting now). I think that Samsung fans and review sites behave appallingly as it is as though they are paid by Samsung to give Sony bad reviews and or to troll positive Sony articles. Mrwhostheboss is a bought and paid for lowly Samsung shrill as just now he has done a Samsung S24 preview and literally bragged that the Samsung s24 now has 4k 120 fps. He in the preview did not state that Sony Xperia literally have had that since the year 2020. What is more Sony Xperia has done it BETTER by making all the three sensors capable of 4k at 120fps- since 2022. The problem unlike lowly Samsung is that SONY do not PAY for reviews and as such the like of the more let us say ‘Morally deficient people like Whostheboss and MKHD have no time for Sony as simply they don’t get paid. Since Scam-dung have started doing phones they have consistently ripped off sony ideas and more so since 2019. The proof of this is Samsung has not innovated in YEARS NAD HAS always COPIED FROM the likes of Sony.
SO TRUE. We need more people like you who truly opens and utilizes their eyes and observe and conclude truthfully by themselves and not be like the shills and blind followers! ! ❤❤❤❤❤
@@bloodytoad2010 ate for the reason that sony does things manually and not does wetnurse people it teaches you to be creative. I have learned how top do do transition shots, editing and dolly zoom and have shown them on my channel.
It is the thing about Sony phones, the imaged are not the best out of the camera but have tones of flexibility when editing, other phones when you start editing very fast the photo starts to be a fried mess.
The biggest issue is the monetary gains is made from shouting about Samsung/Apple mobile phones and their cameras. On the s21 ultra I use expert raw which is a bit like using a camera interface. I do feel they still feel a bit overprocessed for raw format though. Xiaomi and Sony are really aimed at photographers though . Unfortunately xiaomi is hard to get the best products in Europe. Only when micro four thirds becomes a thing in mobile devices will be able to compare them to larger sensors with a degree of scrutiny. A mft sensor is roughly half the size of a full frame sensor in terms of light capture ability. Referred to as a crop factor. Meaning f2 on a phone is the same as f4 full frame I'm equivalent lens length and field of view. The general person might know this or care.
I do not trust those ratings. If I buy a new phone i will have a short list and review each one EXTENSIVELY with Camera as priority over performance (not a gamer).
i use a canon and sony mirrorless camera, r6ii, r10, zv1. and we have been asking for years for these mirrorless cameras to implement a phone style of hdr images where its already done, they can keep the manual mode also for us, and they keep ignoring us. in this era people want quick take and post on social media. im glad the backlash sony is getting! its good, they would learn and also improve! aa phone is meant for quick and done! you cant come into the phone world and expect people to always be in manual! im glad for MKBHD!
Once I participated in an Instagram contest by Samsung Peru. I submitted a photo I think it was quite beautiful as a photograph, using the night mode and no editing. Is a photograph that with a dedicated camera would be impossible maybe, because the ISO would be needed to be raised to much while using a small aperture to get the landscape in focus. But the winners were just snapshots of selfies. I don't say this as wrong, it seems people that get to know the complexity of their devices are few, I find these Sonys objectively better, not overprocessed. But well :T
I can see your point. But its still nice to have a decent auto shoot mode. Most phones have a manual mode with Raw output. So you will still be able to choose between auto and manual shooting
Upgraded from xperia 1ii to xperia 1v both great phones. This phone is a flagship for discening users so comparing to sheeple flagships is erroneous. You meed to be able to think for yourself to buy this phone and no reviews i have seen so far seem to understand that
very true! You are the one doing the work, and then you get far better results! Even more so if you truly know how to handle the phone! And I still have a lot to learn when it comes to balancing it! And I am glad it doesn't rely on competional photography, because it sadly often leads to overprocessed images.
Given how expensive they are compared to contemporaries, they should excel in both situations, point & shoot and manual photography. Reason? Because it is a smart phone, not a smart camera.
Same for iPhone, Samsung and pixel, they are charging 1000 plus for point and shoot when cheaper 300-400 dollar phones can do the same....why spend 1000 for basic camera features?
Yeah, I totally agree. Sony Xperia's are for the people who want their phones to be their camera phone. To take photos the way you like it to be. Those reviewers who keep on looking for what is not present in Xperia it's just because they don't know how to use what's in it... The right way.
That's like buying a racing car and complaining why it can't go off road like g wagon, makes no sense to review tech products like that ....if I just want a good camera, why spend 1000 plus to take basic pictures? Make no sense
I can relate with the literal point and shoot no fuss easy to use that MKBHD is talking about. But clearly this phone is not meant for that, I mean it can but it gets beat by cheaper phones for delivering out of the box Instagram and facebook standard photos. Also some situations really do call for literally whip out your phone and take a quick shot before you miss the moment type of scenario. Yesterday I was on a beach trip on a small boat with the boat rocking and I had to take photos of my mates bobbing on the water. I had my trusty old Sony NEX-F3 with a Nikon 50mm F1.8D on it with an adapter. All on manual even the focus was in manual. lol in that situation, it was either I use my phone (Poco F2 Pro) to quickly take shots... or risk throwing up while fiddling with the manual settings on my mirrorless much to my embarrassment . I choose the former 😂😂😂
That’s why we have to get away from all these comparisons because truth be told, in a point and shoot situation, the Sony phones at least would not be among the top. Now I don’t know how the Xiaomi 13 Ultra ended up down there. But this is a lesson you can apply to real life as well: comparison not reality. People can appear to be doing well in life and be totally miserable. It’s all about understanding the audience and this experiment was a blind comparison so it’s fair.
That's nothing wrong with auto testing. The only problem is the pathetically one dimensional testing scenario and sample size. 3/4 sample and all are the same condition 'black person portrait"? Lol
He explained in the video that the test was basically simulating a person taking the phone of their pockets a snaping a picture. If you are going to take their raw files and heavily edit them you're going to have different results obviously. iPhone, Galaxy S23 and Pixel 8 pro delivery beautiful haw files with quality much better than what was shown. But that wasn't the point of the the test. Also the crappy portrait mode results weren't user fault in my opinion, sony should solve those problems if they want to stay competitive and not just blame the user.
I think you are missing the point, look at his reviews of Sony devices, and what sony is marketing it as. These phones aren't often ment for the point and shoot, though it will do well with auto mode (MKBHD uses basic I think, which can be iffy) But that is beside the point. If you market a phone for the proffesionals/photographers like sony does, showcasing step by step in my shorts how to use the phone to get the best out of it, then in your review you should showcase that, you should showcase what it is cabable of doing with how it markets itself, else you aren't leaning anything about what the phone does for those who plan to buy the phone, that is his job as a reviewer, instead when it comes to Sony he doens't, in his "review" of the 1V he said things he would like to see different, like size and screen resolution, things he mentioned are on the Sony Xperia 5 series... And again... not highlighting what this phone is cabable of, and if you come to watch a review of a Sony and you aren't show the pages in between, and cut a BIG part of the story, then of course you haven't learned anything. It paints a very unfair picture of in this case Sony. That is why I made this video, again not hate against him, I have spoken with him before and he is a kind dude, but I do feel like he should make that picture clear with the size of the audience he has that pushes him up in the search bar. if I would look at sony reviews, I simply wouldn't have known how great they are if it wasn't for the 2 I linked in the desciption.
@@ThroughJermainesLens yes I get your point. It really has a native camera app that reminds a alpha camera. And it really focuses for more experienced photographer. But I don't know how the outcome would be if he tested the different phome cameras raw files and edited them. If you could make a video comparing different phones that way that would be great also. Pushing the raw files and showing the experience of shooting manually in each phone. I don't know if it's worth your time.
You are right man! Dont be a lazy human being please people. We dont want to be an average consumer at all sorry. We really appreciate how Sony Xperia encourage us educate us how to fully utilize the real art of photography in Sony phone. We dont want to be the AI slave only, we want to be creative and creator with our own touch and identitiy. Sorry!!!!
And that is what sony is for! And I think it does a great job at that! Again it isn't perfect, and it does have some things where I feel like it needs work, but if they showcase a phone like that, use it as marketed.
Sony Xperia getting unfair coverage as usual. Its an extremely capable camera and especially the main lens 😍 I actually think the sony is no slouch on auto mode and in my testing on occasions it gives images more pleasing than the 'best camera phones' of course this is subjective. What isn't subjective is the capability of Sony's camera on the xperia line so glad you made this video mate 😎🔥❤️
Yeah they do indeed! That is why i also shared 2 of the best in my description because it is very good if you use it properly! And auto mode is fine! (Basic... Should be removed though haha) 😂 and yes photography is very subjective indeed, but the user can make a big difference if they know how to use it, and... Well he clearly doesn't care to put in that effort
@@ThroughJermainesLens 💯 mate. I don't really know why basic mode is there really (bar a few features which could be added as options on auto). I've not used mine for ages but still have it because I need a Sony in my life I think 😂😂
Interesting take. I just watched the MKBHD video before this and I didn't get what you got. It seemed clear to me that he didn't want to change the 1 V much at all. He equated it to the best machines Porsche makes. Instead he wanted something that was made for the masses. He specifically mentioned the 5 V (I think?) and said he wanted a "sweet spot" with a 1080p 120Hz display. His point about P&S features (automatic camera) was that it's what most average phone users want. Not for the 1 V, for the Porsche Cayenne version of the Xperia line. Everything you show about the capabilities and what you have to do to achieve it is exactly what I thought MKBHD was getting at. My thoughts on it anyway.
I understand what you're saying, but with the changes he wants it became a Sony Xperia 5 series, it wasn't the one. It is like saying let's remove the s-pen on the s24 Ultra, make it the corners more curved for nicer feel in the hand and a bit smaller as well, then you start to describe a phone that is already there the s24+. And then in his reviews he often neglects how the camera is supposed to be used. I know this is a limited market phone, but for those who want to know about the phone and want to learn how good it is, his reviews do nothing to tell me how the camera is, because he uses the basic features, he only looks on the surface when it comes to these sony phones without going into how the camera works on this kind of phone if that makes sense. This video is not meant as an attack, but at the same time, if I would be someone who is intrested in buying a phone like this and I watch his reviews I haven't learned anything on how it performs, how good it is, but also it's weakness with the periscope, because he doesn't utulize the power that is given. And from memory, used pictures of a last years device on the review of the 1V. Hope that makes a bit more sense in terms of where I am coming from.
I have the 1 V, and have 0 experience with photography. Sometimes it can just have relly terrible footage if i don't want or not have the time to do all the adjustments. I got the phone because the combination of SD card support, headphones jack and the beautiful design. But man the standard photo mode really need some work.
Perhaps Sony can create a soft button slider in the app simply called "Point And Shoot" mode, I’m sure many in the audience were horrified it came last in those blind tests.
Yeah, this has been bugging me since the last blind test. You could see that the popular vote was going for bright and colorful output, but some of the winning shots just broke up when you zoomed in. - un-natural detail and aggressive smoothing (on the Pixel 6A, in particular)... an issue also, wtih the newer Huaweis, which keep winning DXOMark tests... yes, they're bright with great color, but for a photographer, the output falls down when you start to pixel peep when editing.
this, and the problem of course is doing those things aren't cheap, but also effect how the phone approaches the setup. This competaniol photography comes at a cost, and that is the natural look of a shot (though I will say Xiaomi does well, not perfect but well, which funny enough was just above the Xiaomi) but also, if you don't use the phone as intended, because with sony clearly the use is intended for manual, they keep posting shorts about it, then use it as such, their budget went it to making those different apps for full control. I know someone uses the argument of: well then the others should use manual as well... No... they aren't even remotely marketed like that.... that comparison doesn't stack up at all!
@@ThroughJermainesLens Xiaomi's approach to processing and color really took a step up last year. I think even the more humble 13 Pro and even the cheaper 13T are fine platforms for photos if you can commit to editing after!
oh yeah, even without editing I get pics that really feel like far better photography then many I have tried. Though in some situations too much contrast, that needs a BIT of work. @@nikytamayo
The main lense of a V is great but i did not find the 3.5X-5.2X variable zoom impressive. and Sony absolutely desserves some backlash. especially after 1 IV fiasco. Also there is no Sony gallery photo ...you have to use Google😅 Photos
@@FAT8893 not really, its 99% Sony fault that rushed the Xperia 1 IV or did not test it properly, decided to use that chipset after all and could have throttle the chipset some more or use better cooling solution. They also added endurance mode while using the camera but you need to buy their SOny bluetooth grip for that. They also dont give you any option in photopro to change the bitrate. Imagine a phone you cannot use more than 5 min in winter without overheating...and yes i am talking about 4K@30 fps not 120fps. So yeah i blame Sony more than Qualcomm...i am pretty sure other manufacturers did not have the same problem... Anyway this is behind me now, the 1 V is much better (better processing and cooling)
Hello, I have a question, is this one better quality of video and photo than the Xperia pro i? I am trying to decide if I should buy this one or the other for video and photo. Thank you so much
I would say that this will provide better video quality yes :) But I would for now wait on the new and upcoming, if rumors are correct all sensors will use that stacking sensor that the main sensor has!

My Experia 1 5 is very interesting phone. If you want a wallet busting eco system buy an iphone,if you are a happy snapper buy a Samsung, if you want a content creation tool put the experia 1 5 on your list especially if you can get a good deal..

true! And even more so when it comes to Sony and how they even market the whole phone! It is meant to be used in a set way, but also if you use Auto instead of basic that a lot of people use, it is pretty solid. (not the best but solid) and it still takes RAW shots in Auto as well!
I'm not sure how much "stock" I can put into a reviewer talking about someone using it wrong when you can not show a product in focus @1:30 yes I'm being critical, but you have to make sure you have things look right before you call others out
Because that makes it the be all end all? This was using autofocus because 1 man team, and my Lumix S5 doesn't have the greatest auto focus. You argument also doesn't have anything to do with the point I am making.
Let's dig in... I will speak on whatever I want and no one will do anything about it and I speak on that because there's a lot of folks who will give pushback about the FACTS. They will see this video and come flying with their capes on, cheerleading with their pom poms, because they love their iPhone/Samsung/Pixels. It's ironic that ALL phones that actually have real features get ignored, shunned, and bypassed. For example, how come there's barely any mention of smartphones with headphone jacks, IR Blasters, and internal SD storage? How come when those subjects come up, some bozo says they are not important? So this Sony is not what most phones are. Most phones now over $1000 actually offer you NOTHING except the illusion that it's better than the year before. They do a couple of software tweaks, they claim they are more durable, they claim the IP rating is better, yet what moron does not know who to protect a smartphone? It's called a CASE, do not drop it, generally use common sense.,etc. Let's take the Note series and Iphones for example. You have been buying the same exact phone for at least 5 years, with the only difference being my Note was the last one with internal storage/SD card slot. I bought the phone otherwise I would have gotten NO case, NO charger, and a lot of bloatware from my service. Instead I have an unlocked phone that I install whatever I want, including FDroid apps, which are open source, free, and quite useful . Consider the Note 20 U costs over $1000 while the Note 3 was $780 and had replaceable battery, IR Blaster, Headphone jack, and SD storage. So the point is, they are purposely scamming us to buy expensive phones, which the midrange ones have the REAL features. That is why you cannot walk into a Verizon nor TMobile store and see OnePlus, Sony, Oppo, nor any other brand that have these features. That is why they have not told you the REAL story about what the Sony can really do. Then they tell lies of omission, like the foldable OnePlus phone has an IR Blaster, and I only found ONE reviewer who mentioned it. Bottom line is, if you want me to pay more, bring back ALL those features that I had for 2/3 the price, give me a case, give me a charger, give me all the accessories we need. I recall almost every review of the Sony Xperia V, they barely mention the camera, they avoided the headphone jack, and made up a narrative that Sony phones are not on the same level, while they befuddle and bamboozle the public to buy the same phone over and over. How you going to make titanium a big deal and the phones are falling apart??? I am in to replace a few phones soon aND i definitely want a great camera I can control and A headphone jack, because I primarily use real headphones with a cable. That is why when I travel I hook my headphones into my tablet which has a headphone jack and since I bought actual cameras, like my 2 Sonys, I do not worry about most smartphone cameras.
Oh I called it out so many times about the removal of the headphone jack and MicroSD AND charger, it is annoying you almost have to compliment a company for doing the bare minimum when it comes to giving you a charger under the image of "enviroment" while removing it results in people buying it seperatly, being send seperatly in seperate boxes! Then we have the 3.5... I still have many headphones and they still work perfectly well, the ones I've gotten when Samsung was good, s8+s10 I still have them from and they work perfectly fine! Heck they made a whole video how they still had a charger, headphone jack and MicroSD.... then removed it... Only reason is that they can then start selling chargers, and bluetooth headsets that will lead to more waist, then we have the microSD, the only reason that is removed is so that people buy the ones with more memory, the more exspensive ones, that is it!
This is an enthusiast phone; not for average consumers. If I was a content creator that needed to bring a proper camera all the time, I'd pick an xperia. I hope sony won't suffer the same fate as lg did because of bs reviews. It's pretty rare to see flagship smartphones that are offering the essentials like expansion card slot and headphone jack that most company ditched in order to sell their solution to the problem that they created in the first place.
I didn't have it, but granted I have mostly tested in colder temps so can't say anything with 100% confirmation. but during autumn and winter I didn't have the issues.

While MKBHD's photo is also correct and real, the phone is capable to a lot more.
bokeh mode (portrait) on Sony devices, doesn't support HDR, so when is lighting behind the subject it is blown out.
i have an xperia 5ii and i think the hdr gets turned off when eye auto focus kicks in, it needs all the math power of the gpu and cpu for that. i hope they will find a middle way cause i love sony and i will buy a sony again. but they do have to keep improving otherwise ill switch maybe someday
With auto eye af , HDR works in Xperia 1 v . With bokeh it doesn't works @@namelesssnitchy
I think Sony should adopt the software approach when outputting photos using auto mode to attract point and shoot audiences, and in manual mode, they should stay with their current approach. That way they can win both types of audiences.
the problem with that is that often it comes at a cost of the soul in a shot when using these ways of taking shots. But I get your point yes!
@@s.tunafish That's exactly what I thought too. I love my Pro i but a few great filters could make a difference.
wrong this is part of the SCAM...Everytime something works and gives the people control of their own devices, here comes someone peddling garbage to remove it and create more ways to give the people less personal control.
Bravo! This was a great breakdown and what Xperia is and how they should be used. Great job.
Thank you Barry!
I did hear rumors they will upgrade the sensor on the next gen, but well we are dealing with the current Gen soooo
But if you watch MKBHD reviews (again nothing against him at all) you will see that for instance in his Sony Xperia 1V review, not only does he say things he would like to see different resulting in a phone that exsist in the form of the Sony Xperia 5 series... Which I don't get why he mentions it then, while he would mention that for other brands (like the size)
But also he doesn't use the camera again how it is marketed, from memory he even used sony xperia 1IV shots... not from the phone he was using (again could be incorrect been a while) But he doesn't showcase what this phone is targeting, what it is meant to be used like.
if I would look at his Sony reviews, as a photographer (with still a lot of learning to do granted) I would steer away from Sony, because he is showing just the basic mode at takes pictures in that, and very basic ones at it...
I have friends who own Xperia phones that can shoot better point-and-shoot photos than MKBHD without any manual adjustment.
Bruh...avg consumer don't buy this phone for 1000+ dollars
You wouldn't buy a 2500$ camera to shoot in auto mode either neither should he💀
We dont want to be an average consumer at all sorry. We really appreciate how Sony Xperia encourage us educate us how to fully utilize the real art of photography in Sony phone. We dont want to be the AI slave only, we want to be creative and creator with our own touch and identitiy. Sorry!!!!
@@amranibrahimrashidi I second you. Sony's AI-less realistic photo processing is what draws me to their phones.

Extra note!
I think a section dedicated to creatives and editing capabilities would be cool in the smartphone tests.
yes and that is why I said I know the audience he has :)
But I feel if you don't utilize it as marketed then why bother showing it?
It must also be said that Sony has greatly improved the auto mode for photo and video in the fifth generation of its phones 1 & 5 v And now I have Xperia 1v
The best phone I have ever used
and I have never regretted buying it
I love the Xperia 1 V it motivates me to take pictures...I find that Auto mode is pretty good for point and shoot compared to Basic...but yes the capabilities are more on the Manual features
i was so intrigued because ALL I ever heard about the recent sony xperia phones were that they had amazing cameras and that the portrait mode got significantly better.
Sadly for portrait i would advise the 2 i linked in the description, i don't have anyone to test it on:(
Nice video i recently picked up the experia 1 mark v it's excellent still getting my head round most of the settings but overall its a great camera phone
Oh yes, it will be a nice challenge, but very damn rewarding when you get the results there! Have fun with it of course!!
Im totally agree with you.. Sony should have marketed their high end phone to be full manual camera capable smartphone.. and they should also provide decent photo editing and video editing app to really compete with mirrorless..
I think they did kind of move in that general direction with the 1 mark V and the 5 mark V.
You might get my point
I understand you like Sony phone cameras and wants to let others know that it's not a bad camera but you should understand their reasoning too for treating every phones same way...
@@WaqarKhanHD
You make a very valid point and as a fellow consumer I understand your thoughts.
I have Google pixel 7 pro and the quality of the camera is overrated. I'll take Xperia's natural look anyday
When it comes to the question, well if you want to shoot raw on the Xiaomi 13 Pro it can only do Leica Vibrant sadly, it doesn't have RAW+Authenthic, but I guess till a degree I can understand that choice, because the Authenthic kinda already does the job for you till a degree, and is honestly decent to edit as well :)
But unless you want to edit a good amount, I would prefer Auto+Authenthic over RAW+Vibrant.
Sony have good cameras. I think they can do it in a phone like having an autofocus in portrait modes with DSLR qualities. They don't need A.I to do the magic. They have the hardware. They can get the attention of more consumers.
Good video mate. Need more people speaking up for Xperia and devices meant for ACTUAL photography/videography.
Look forward to more Sony coverage.
Thank you Dan!
MKBHD is just a typical consumer who pretends to be a prosumer.
God damn right
He's just a professional ignorant not more
Well, he knows what he is doing, but he intentionally said he won't change a single setting when shooting the pictures so it would come closest to the experience of an average user.

Why would an "average consumer" buy such a phone ?
Well said 👏
Yeah, it's not the phone for all folks but if you are into certain niche demand, this device would turn into the best tool you've ever had.
Camera wise people who bash the point and shoot of the 1V i dont think its fair to say its not good without trying the phone yourself because it is good its even as good as pixel or iphone as well with more natural look to it
well said

Manual on xperia phones are heaven, full auto point and shoot was a different story
And that is perfectly fine :) And I can honestly understand it, I just want the proper narration to go out when it comes to Sony's and showcase what it can do, but also that it does need more work
This is what I Wanted to HEAR about SONY MOBILES
Thanks for the update 🎉
Great video! It's very unfortunate that most reviews are comparing photos with heavy post image processing, against the Sony's mediocre point and click - when the fun happens in Manual mode!
I love my 1v - and I'm looking forward to whatever comes next!
Keep up the great videos mate!
Thank you very much! And I agree!!! When it comes to Sony it isn't about the overprocessed b.s! I hate it, and it seriously can lose soul! Now is this phone for everyone? no, but if you love photography this is one of the best! (But they need to make a seperate gallery app because I HATE google photo's and I hate the big icons in the swipe down menu from google, and seeing how they are close to it is to stock we have the same on the sony's)
And I shall keep it up ^^ I am trying my best hehe
One of the things that's slightly limiting the Xperia phone's capability is its unpopularity.
There are a million and one camera-related accessories such as lens and filter cases available for the iPhone despite it not really needing those, while the Xperias pretty much get none. I had to modify a generic case to get it to accept something as simple as an ND filter.
Sony should use some presets in camera effects
I love the output of the Sony. But, when I want to snap a quick photo of my daughter, I don't have the luxury of tinking with the photo settings! I want it to do both
It's not as if the 1 V can't do that well either, Sony has significantly improved their auto mode.
Point and shoot has greatly improved to be fair
Yes you get the most out of it when playing with the settings, etc.
But more often than not, I use it on auto, and I'm very pleased with the results. They're better than my iPhone
Better than on which iPhone?

I'm watching this video from my Sony Xperia 1 V 🫶🏻
It is the thing about Sony phones, the imaged are not the best out of the camera but have tones of flexibility when editing, other phones when you start editing very fast the photo starts to be a fried mess.
Looks good and did you go to germany again some picture's looks like some places in germany great work as always
Thank you, and no hahaha, I went to Belgium :) Dinant and Ghent :)
If I buy a new phone i will have a short list and review each one EXTENSIVELY with Camera as priority over performance (not a gamer).
because it is a Sony, not iPhone. MKBHD would act differently if it was the latter.
i use a canon and sony mirrorless camera, r6ii, r10, zv1. and we have been asking for years for these mirrorless cameras to implement a phone style of hdr images where its already done, they can keep the manual mode also for us, and they keep ignoring us. in this era people want quick take and post on social media. im glad the backlash sony is getting! its good, they would learn and also improve! aa phone is meant for quick and done! you cant come into the phone world and expect people to always be in manual! im glad for MKBHD!
But they do have a decent output if you use Auto (instead of basic) And the Sony has RAW in Auto as well, no need for pro mode for RAW
And I am glad it doesn't rely on competional photography, because it sadly often leads to overprocessed images.
the video deserves more likes
Thank you, appreciate it! It is so important to get the right narrative out there when it comes to sony
I have had my Xperia 10 III for a while now and can't imagine switching to another brand maybe another recent model. I am Team Sony anytime!
Thank you for doing our beloved 1V justice 🙏
No problem! This phone is really solid! And if the shots suck... the problem is the user xD
Great video
How is the overheat issue going on? Recording 4K still overheats?
I didn't have any issues with that when I was in dinant using 4k 120fps. granted max time I recorded was 5 minutes.
Why buy a phone that's made for manual mode then? Makes no sense

Sony Xperia getting unfair coverage as usual. Its an extremely capable camera and especially the main lens 😍
I actually think the sony is no slouch on auto mode and in my testing on occasions it gives images more pleasing than the 'best camera phones' of course this is subjective.
Mkbhd talks to social media fans and young people. He hates on droid phones hard now
I have the 1 V, and have 0 experience with photography. Sometimes it can just have relly terrible footage if i don't want or not have the time to do all the adjustments.
I got the phone because the combination of SD card support, headphones jack and the beautiful design. But man the standard photo mode really need some work.
Use auto mode, not basic it will do better:)
Bravo! Exactly.
This competaniol photography comes at a cost, and that is the natural look of a shot (though I will say Xiaomi does well, not perfect but well, which funny enough was just above the Xiaomi)
but also, if you don't use the phone as intended, because with sony clearly the use is intended for manual, they keep posting shorts about it, then use it as such, their budget went it to making those different apps for full control.

They also dont give you any option in photopro to change the bitrate.

@@ThroughJermainesLens Facts!
I love Sony phones and especially the xperia 1 mark 5. It is too expensive for me as a student. I hope I could get it free😭
What about the heating issue?....some reviews show that sometimes the camera app stops due to heating
I didn't have it, but granted I have mostly tested in colder temps so can't say anything with 100% confirmation. but during autumn and winter I didn't have the issues.
@@ThroughJermainesLens ok That'd be the only thing stopping me to buy it if I wanted to.
If it's there
@@dkdk5486 DIdn't have an issue myself this summer, but I only took it into West Virginia up some trails. Juan Bagnell did a bit of testing with it in heat. I did accidentally leave Genshin running overnight which made it rather toasty but didn't shut it down. I regulary record 4k60 with it (120 is too big in filesize for me to store and I like the stabilization of 60).
I think the heating issue is just on 1 iv. 1v has a different processor
@@octavianmitri8928 many reviews told so....even camera app stops due to heating...
I don't own one I just saw some reviews
Why i dont see any hatred comment toward sony alpha camera as enthusiast product, but so many hatred on sony phone based by big reviewer opinion, if you dont like the phone, there always be samsung and iphone product as option for you 😅
