    A great live performance.
    I was lucky to see him live in 97.

    I didn't even recognize Rich when he had a beard. Rich was so young back then. I remember hearing his song Awesome God on the radio and he made a huge impact on my life.

    Very lively playing on this one....Rich's piano technique was as good as a trained classical musician around this time. Then he became a hammer dulcimer virtuoso. I had the great privilege to see him about 6 months before he passed away. He was a true innovator, and a genius composer. No one, to this day, can write lyrics and music with the syncopated complexity that he could.

    I remember mom playing this music when I was just like 3 or 4. I grew up listening to Christian tunes and mom dancing to it. It made an impression. This music made me happy.

      Same here. I was about that old when he died. We were living in Wichita Kansas at the time. It was so sad when my mother told me he had died.

    So glad to see this, since I saw him perform around the same time at Purdue University in Indiana, and my only memories of the concert are of this song, his playing barefoot, and the audience-participation rainstorm he conducted.

    What a blessing to see this video. These words speak of the majesty of God. Zion came to our church for a youth retreat in 1981 and 1982. To see this group perform this song is incredible and brings back some great memories. Thanks so much for sharing!

    Praise the Lord for this awesome video! It is incredible to see Rich showing us his talent as a musician that he had and at this tender age. It was obvious that he loved being a musician and it showed so well in the video along with a incredible focus on our Lord and what it meant to him, musically along with his fellow christians who also you can see was inspired to sing with him.Wouldn't ya loved to be in that chorus! I would of..See ya in the chorus in heaven Rich :)

    Listening to the beginning sounds very bach-like. I think that's why I like it.

    @ges75022 Yes he was 27 years old! I have posted 4 other songs from this performance -- check out my profile page. There are 10 songs that were recorded successfully here, and this is one of the coolest.

      Here is a column I penned after his death. I often call Rich Mullins "the greatest interview I never did." Publicist Carol Anderson contacted me about doing an advance on a Knoxville concert in the early to mid-1990s, but when I asked to set up a phone interview, she said, "I'd love to, but he doesn't have a phone. He lives on a Navajo reservation, teaching music to children." From that point on, I was intrigued and eventually hugely impacted by Rich's life and song. I miss his presence in the industry. www.buzztrexler.com/2017/09/rewind-world-is-poorer-but-heavens-rich.html

    Rich Mullins' version of Sing Your Praise To Lord sounds alot better than Amy Grant's version.

    Growing up listening to some of his later recordings, it's strange hearing the difference in his singing voice then. Seems like with this and Elijah, he sang a little higher than he would just a few years later.

    Rich was 41 when he was killed in the car accident.

    I was wondering who did the piano work on Amy's version. I have no certainty at all but I tend to think it was Rich himself. Anyone know for sure?

    • @tadpolesoup
      @tadpolesoup 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It may have been Rich, but I read on another post that it was Michael W. Smith who played on Amy's version. I know Smitty did play on many of her early recordings.

    • @mpmattson
      @mpmattson 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I kind of doubt that it was Michael. He played a simplified version of the intro on the Age to Age tour. He's obviously a world class writer and musician, but that introduction is seriously technically challenging.

    • @tadpolesoup
      @tadpolesoup 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mpmattson Amy's studio version has a more simplified arrangement as well, which could suggest that it was Michael who played, assuming Rich's arrangement would have been too challenging for Michael. (But I personally don't think it would have been too challenging, especially when you listen to the piano and keyboard parts of Michael's first two albums). The studio personnel information I have found for the "Age To Age" album does not list Rich anywhere, but only Michael and Shane Keister on piano, keyboards and synths. Moreover, the "touch" and "style" of the piano playing sounds similar to Michael's early albums.

      I humbly retract.

      Shane Keister plays piano on Amy Grant’s studio version of Sing Your Praise To The Lord. He is an amazingly gifted piano player!

    thanks for posting these! I was thinking he died at age 37 in 1997, so if this was 82 (and if I'm correct), then he would be 22 here... great video!

      He actually died at age 42. He was about 27 here.
