    Step 1: have a CNC router for making your CNC router components.

    • @ensellitis
      @ensellitis 8 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      I was just thinking that... Pretty much ruins the usefulness of it for nearly everyone wanting to do this who wants a CNC.

      Or just bring the plans to a shop with a cnc router and get them to cut it for you- step one complete.

      You dont have to be a genius to cut this stuff yourself or take it to a shop to have them cut it for you. You guys are just making excuses for why youre not going to build one. lol

    Using a CNC router to build a CNC router is cheating.

  • @Mythobeast
    @Mythobeast 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Ben, you are my hero :)
    For all those who think that it's cheating to build a CNC router with another CNC router, all you are doing is skipping a step. You could build a CNC router by hand, getting slightly less precision in the final product. It would certainly be accurate enough to cut the parts for a second router. The objective here is just to show that it could be done.

    I Really wish Ben would have spent more time explaining the work procedure for going from illustrator to G-Code.
    It seems to me to be one of the most important processes for working with DIY CNC machines. I mean, the whole purpose in a CNC machine is to generate real world objects from computer designs. If you gloss over the design, and conversion of your parts to G-Code for use on the CNC , you're basically left with a really expensive doodad that moves.

      I do have the Dremel, so that cost is already covered. Using an Ardiuno to interface with the stepper drivers is a cool idea, though I haven't experimented with Arduinos before so I would have to learn how to set that up. It looks like the biggest challenges I'd have would be learning the Arduino, sourcing three matching steppers and setting up the stepper drivers; all of which I'm sure I could work through if I could allocate the time for it.

    Ben, awesome vid. One question: every CNC designer touts the resolution ie. 1/16000 inch. But I rarely if ever see ACCURACY determined. The accuracy can be measured by making a long travel back to a known spot and measure any error. This is what truly matters as far as accuracy is concerned. Takes into account any and all deflections and tolerance stacking. Why do I ask? Well, inquiring minds want to know. Practical inquiring minds want to know how much to spend on rails, bearing assemblies, etc

    you should build an XBox One laptop, but invest in the blower cooling system used by either a graphics card or a slim mini-desktop. Then all you have to do is adapt it to fit the backplate and mounting holes from the original cooler, and it's likely slimmer and more effective.

    So to make a cnc machine you need a cnc machine? was the first cnc machine made that way?
    Probably the only part in the xbox build i would be able to do.

    I did it again. I would like to use my r/c tx using a pc joystick instead of the sticks on the transmitter. Could you please have a go at this project for me. I only have my left arm & I would love to get into r/c flying. Many thanks. Barry
