So glad to see this😍since I'm a big fan of Edward Yang's films
Hello from Taiwan👋
Hello, I'm a big fan of Edward Yang and I'm vietnamese from France. I love Taiwan and one day I will visit here. I very like films of Edward Yang as well as Taiwan movies.
I believe Taiwan is a country and isn't belong of China. I support you to gain independence.
Not only this is based on a true event but the original Chinese title we are already told whats gonna happen in the film, a murder. Still the ending of this movie really hits so hard left me speechless for a good while.
Excellent analysis of a great movie
I felt like there was so much in this film to unpack and dissect, excluding the contextual stuff. This video has been a really great insight into that!
I was apprehensive at first about doing an allegorical reading of a slice-of-lifey film but this is super convincing. Good video, I like the musical framing for the essay. Also just looking at the film is a delight.
this is a quality video essay. keep it up.
You are an excellent video reviewer! as an aspiring video reviewer I watch your videos for inspiration! watched Brighter summer day because of this video and it was Magnificent. what a masterpiece.

"Violent but ultimately impotent ways" - not ultimately impotent, see the 2:30hr marker of the film.
The Tawainian 'Gone With the Wind'?
God, thank you so much for sharing this film and our country's history (though we're still fighting against Beijing to prove ourselves as an independent nation )
Youth Homicide Incident on Guling Street (1991)
Taiwan New Wave!
Im halfway through the film and this was recommended. Still dont get what is the allegory here, its a very straightforward storytelling imo
Now, two weeks later, you have hopefully finished the film. It's a long one.
@@louisaparker indeed. Was the stabbed girl supposed to be "the mainland"?
why tf he killed her?
because she betrayed him by cheating on him with his friend when she was all he really had left except cat. Also his pent up anger with society and his hopelessness with life was probably part of it
