Mat...you have discovered a key truth...one has to eat! So glad it's helping you. Also happy that you are handling the elevation so well. Love your candid dialog. Thanks and best...pops
Holy heck! On the washboard road I may have needed "depends" underwear for all that jiggling around. hahaha! Nothing wrong with a tent in a good ole junkyard! Looked like a fine place! lol I love the small ghost towns, they are my fav. :) Those mountain views were fabulous. I love water views first and I think mountains second. The best would be to combine the two and live there happily ever after! lol :) Thanks for sharing and looking forward to the next episode! :) :)
After trying out some merino wool hiking products this weekend including underwear, I'm not sure I'll be able to go back to other materials. Thank you for another enjoyable update.
I rode into Radium in that mud bath you speak of. I had to wash the bike in the Colorado River. Colorado tried to drown me everyday, I swear I had a little black rain cloud that just hovered over me. I love your drone shots. Ross's edit, about Indiana Pass that made me laugh. I whole heartedly agree about ditching the padded bike shorts. I did not ride with them on the GDMBR and I never had any saddle issues.
Colorado was the rainiest state for me. We seemed to have a big downfall every day but it never lasted. I can't believe how lucky I was with the weather.
You look so thin 😢 even though you’re packing in the calories! We’ll have to do a ‘before and after’ photo! I have one from the day before you left 👍 xx
Loving your videos, you are an amazing story teller with so much great information and advice. And your sense of humor is to die for! Thank you for everything. Planning this trip for next summer, hoping to start from Jasper! Wondering what drone you use for the aerial shots? Looking forward to more of your videos.
It's lovely to see the amazing views continue. I totally appreciate the hard efforts you and Ross have put into your videos to show the true challenges of your expedition. Not one part of it has made me wish to experience it myself on a bike, but thank you. Oh, maybe I could take the challenge of 250 calories every hour😂 ( in alcohol 😂😂) Your fur is growing back well, just in time for the cooler temperatures. That was well planned. Poor John, you could have helped him with his haircut. He must have looked a little odd doing it in stages! Call yourself a friend! Keep up the good work guys. 😊
Ever since I started following your videos Mat I’ve been wondering who’s behind the video editing. Well now I know 😅 Ps your input is sooo appreciated sir. Keep up good work
Hi Ross, you obviously already have the footage of the rest of Colorado. Do an all-nighter and publish it tomorrow! Just kidding. Great work, and a big thanx
I have a small amount of suspension on my seat post but could have done with more on some sections. I'm managing ok now but it took a while! Thanks for commenting 👍
@@COYSMike Sorry I didn't notice , I have the 20mm carbon version , But I think I'd like something with 50mm ...A chemist friend of mine who had cycled LEJOG advise saddle cream in the morning & sudocrem in the evening as that helped repair .& Swapping different makes of underwear so seems don't rub in the same place .

Great video once again. Is it me or is your belt quirking? Mine does that annoying sound when it is really dry. To treat it with a liter of water always helps
Another great video, Mat! The Blue Moon Cafe in Silverthorne is an absolute favorite stop. The route goes nearly right by it. Best sandwiches and pastries on the route! Boreas Pass is definitely a fantastic pass. Nice grade, stunning views. Indiana Pass is higher and much harder, but also amazing! That washboard outside of Hartsel is just preparing you for New Mexico washboard! Rough!
Ahh shame but I'm already in New Mexico. I missed those stops. Boreas pass was amazing and yes, washboard in New Mexico is hideous. The landscapes are incredible though. Thanks for following along 👍
Hey Bert, I'm with you on the towns being interesting, for me its the people (characters) I meet and interact with that really make my trips. I love the riding and seeing new places too but its the social interactions that really tend to stick in my memory . Very different scenery now but just as impressive, are bears still a threat or are you out of the danger zone now? 🐻 Take care. Best . Ernie 👍
Hey Ernie. You're dead right, I've spoken to so many interesting people on this trip. I'm in New Mexico now and it's full of interesting characters. Cheers, Bert.
Most of the time we were in quiet areas, sometimes in the middle of nowhere. I had a small lock with me but rarely used it. I wouldn't dream of leaving a bike unlocked on London. I.never really worried about it over on the State's. Cheers 👍
Finding beauty in the "campground" in Hartsel (of which I am quite familiar). You sir are a gem. And I just drove on Elkhorn Road (20 ish miles before Hartsel) a few days ago. The man speaks the truth about the washboards.
Those bib shorts might show up on a heatmap! you could have dumped them at Summitville where they wouldn't hurt the water! i really dislike those! i think it's impossible to avoid some level of discomfort when riding multiple hours a day for weeks at a time. Based on discussions i've had with people that have ridden long distance bike tours for multiple weeks, It seems like a sore bum is a normal thing to deal with. cheers. i look forward to the New Mexico footage.
Exactly..I agree completely. They may delay the pain by an hour or so each day but it always comes anyway. They're hot, sweaty breeding grounds for bacteria. I'm on pretty terrible roads in New Mexico and don't have a problem anymore so ditching them was the way to go. It may have been the right strategy to start the trip with them but I don't know.

Did you follow a specific route on the great divide?
I did. It's called the GDMBR. It's an ACA route.
How about getting flour tortilla and peanut butter as a good desnse and compact food source?
I did that a lot on the AT. I'll take your advice and start doing it out here too. I often added dried mangos. Cheers 👍
I am a bit curious of how you secured your bike while asleep outdoors. In London any bike would be gone in a blink.
