Right. The power curve on that dyno doesn't say "need more converter". The engine on that thing is just worth 237 i nthat iteration, can't blame it on anything.

Everyone commenting on Haydens rx7 is forgetting 1 key factor. Torque. Although his car only made 237 hp his torque is there. Over 300 torque in that little rx7 will snatch you. It's not a Honda.

blake conner I had a second gen rx-7 that I believe was 2500 lbs. the first gens were about 300-400 lbs lighter then the second gen models. I would think the first gen with a V8 would be about 2300 lbs. I hope the owner of that car plans on beefing up the rear end or that torque will probably start breaking them soon.

eh it's a 5.3 with just a cam running thru a slush box it probably low 3xx at the crank which is to be expected from a truck motor

Wrong. A stock FD makes about 200-210 at the wheels.
230 whp in an FB with instant torque from a V8 is fast. That car would hold its own against a lot of lightly modified newer cars.

802 Garage Ive had several 650+ rwhp Ls cars and trust me that set up he is working with has alot more potential its making less hp then a stock 5.3 with stock ecm would make . he has alot to learn with this ls setup but once he figures it out that car will dominate. a stock bottom end 5.3 with decent heads a good fuel system and a single 62mm turbo with 12 psi will make 600rwhp all day long .
Has he said if it has gen 3 or gen 4 rods? Also t56 will post amazing dyno numbers if he swaps it, but I'm assuming he has a 4l80e in it now which would be better for street and strip imho. SBE 5.3 with the Sloppy Special set up will go 10s, especially in something that light if he can get it to 60foot.

You need to go a step colder on the plugs probably if its breaking up at the top end and youre good on fuel.

4900 ft elevation takes a toll on naturally aspirated engines, at 380 ft I have seen 4.8 half ton pickups make 250 at the wheels bone stock. Once it has some boost it will be a fucking animal!
That's a good number for the MR2. Only thing I'd check on before you go much further is the timing chain tensioner on the K. Those are pretty notorious for going bad and stretching chains. Whenever you do your clutch, maybe hit that too. I think K tuned makes an aftermarket tensioner.
Spacerichard That's an issue with the K20A2, I believe Kyle has a K24 so it should be fine.
Ah gotcha, I've got a K20Z1 and a K24A4 currently. I went ahead and upgraded them both while I had them tore down.

High RPM break up: check all of your spark stuff... coils / ignitor / pickups / voltage on alternator etc.
everyone is saying the rx7 made low numbers, but in the end it will make the most power. keep in mind this is at high elevation so it's expected from a truck motor

try a XTD clutch and lightweight fliywheel for the K24. They're pretty cheap for the combo on ebay.
chodyman101 XTD are good if your knowledgeable enough to replace it every 6-12 montjs

chodyman101 a guy I know has a XTD clutch in his around 500 hp Jetta so this clutch should definitely hold the power this MR2 is gonna be throwing at it

Does that MR2 use a MAF or MAP? Either one- it's "running out of room" and that's what needs upgrading. Clutch, windshield, red paint job- and done.

Get a clutch and a good 3 or 4 port boost controller and then you'll begin to have fun :)Also don't forget to upgrade MAP sensor if you go past 12psiCorn Fuel is AMAZING too!

what trans is in the RX7? 4L80e and th400 is basically the same except for od. 4L60e is a electronic 700R. the TH400 is a power hog. unless you are running crazy tq. and over about 3000 lbs. its not really needed. I'd go th350 or 4L60e / 700R. unless its going to be a street / striper. with lots of boost. then 4L80/ the 400, and pistons. I'd never use cast in any performance app. good to see progress with MRtwo. get a clutch in there and crank UP that BOOST!!! can't wait to see it. but I bet you wish you put in a good performance clutch. before you put the engine And trans in. but sometimes you just can't wait or just don't know one is needed.
