      I just got rid of my period with birth control, since my period always made me mentally unwell, like my period made me hate myself so much, which happened ever since I got a period, I would get so happy when I thought my period wouldn’t come as a child when it was late, only to be disappointed later, since for some reason I thought that periods could stop for a few years then turn back on, I was always so nervous to term it as dysphoria because I dont think of myself as being trans therefore I cannot what dysphoria is, but now that I saw your comment I now know im not the only one

    a couple tips for trans people with periods: use overnight pads to avoid changing them as often, most natural pad/tampon brands have more gender neutral packaging, and a good place to put products is a pencil pouch so people wont question whats in it

      Sometimes using overnight pads all the time can be risky because if you don’t change pads often enough bacteria can gather and give you some nasty infections - not to say don’t use them, but be careful with that thought
      Stay safe friends!

    • @jlbeeen
      @jlbeeen 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I have a reusable overnight pad, and it works really well. I definitely suggest reusable pads or underwear, especially Aisle's boxer briefs. But I also use applicator free tampons, and Seventh Generation has been so quiet to open, and it's literally just clear plastic around it with a solid coloured line to pull it open from. They're only about the size of a chapstick tube, but shorter, so they can be hidden in any pocket. Just wash your hands before and after using an applicator free tampon, as you don't want to get an infection. Bringing a baby wipe with you into the stall can help with that so you don't see anything left on your finger when you leave the stall.

    • @mickb.8925
      @mickb.8925 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I probably wouldn't recommend using an overnight pad to change it less often. It's still recommended to only use it for 4h (aside from when you are sleeping of course) What I _would_ recommend is opening, and closing, the pads that you bring with you at home already witch means it will make less sound when opening it again :)

      Maybe YT noticed you're inclusive LOL and once you saw one, the algorithm will keep throwing trans content at us AND I love that. I love to learn more about all sorts of experiences that are outside of mine. And as a neurodivergent bean, it's relatable in many ways, anyway. The whole part about feeling how inflexible societies still tend to be etc.
      We may have our own sets of struggles, but I dare say all people have experienced discrimination of some sort within their life and do absolutely have a basis to start off, when relating to the topic .... that is, so long as ppl do not end up/choose to let their self-protective brain functions get the best of them. And go as far as attacking others and their ways of live, just to avoid touching their own frail sense of safety in the world.
      It's a topic of human experience, suitable for all people (or living things, cause hey, transitioning is very much a thing in the rest of animal n plant kingdom XD)

It's kind of like bipolar in that your mood changes drastically and cyclically, but it's not random and it's based on my cycle, I can literally pinpoint the switch down to the day in my cycle which is what makes it pmdd. Every symptom of regular pms is maginified and even some extra ones added in. I can't imagine being trans AND having pmdd because I am cis and have it, and I wish I didn't have to go through this just to have my son because I would have thrown this thing away years ago lol

      Pleeeease get evaluated if the pain is that bad. As an endometriosis patient who got rid of her uterus at the start of this year after over two decades with that darn pain, that started when I was 11-ish and quite a fear of unwanted pregnancy, I really wished I had gotten diagnosed earlier. Some conditions - such as mentioned endometriosis - pose risks of spreading and causing organ damages as time goes by, if you have a higher stage of it. Being in chronic pain affects the nervous system on the long run and the overall inflammation levels of the body.
      You do not want to go for years over years in pain when you could have had medical help.
      Periods can be uncomfortable and come with light cramps. But anything that has you struggle with your daily chores etc. is a "take your uterus to a gynaecologist"-case. And also a "consult another one if they cannot be bothered and suggest, that period pains are 'normal' and generally dismissible without further diagnose!"

    Just discovered this nifty new cup. Definitely more expensive compared to the 2 for $10 one I bought, but it has a convenient tab to break the seal and make it easier to take out! This is especially nice if you’re more uncomfortable with reaching in. The tab makes it very similar to pulling out a tampon. Maybe I’ll get one and review it for you all: flexfits.com/products/flexcup (this is not paid promotion, just a neat find)

      @@acehasaface948 Me too. I also identify as nonbinary. A cup was massively helpful for me, as well as period underwear (I got mine from knix) it makes me feel less feminine because I don't have to use the flowery tampons or go through checkout with them. Cups also can help with cramping so it will reduce the amount of time you need to spend actively focusing on your cycle. And, for me at least, using one forced me to become more comfortable with my body and helped reduce some of my bottom dysphoria. I would absolutely recommend.

    My dysphoria worsened with menstrual cups. I remember wearing the small-size cup in public for the first time, but I didn't know that my cervix was higher up, so the cup started leaking. I went to the bathroom to re-insert it, but when I was folding the (still slightly bloody) cup to re-insert it, it slipped and the fold POPPED out, which then SPEWED a bunch of blood splatters all over the stall walls. I cleaned the walls up as best as I could, and I re-inserted the cup, which, of course, leaked again later.
    Got on continuous oral contraceptives to stop myself from ever bleeding again, and I refuse to go back.

      If you can take the pill well, you can use it without skipping a week to not get any periods. It has no different side effects than the pill regulary has, so if you take the pill well, that would be a good solution.
      The uterus has actually more to do in your body than just for reproduction, so it has side effects to remove it aside from being sterile, which a good doctor should tell you about. With hormon therapy a lot can be done though, no matter if testosterone or estrogene, because most side effects are related to early on menopause.

I also hate the feeling of the damp blood on pads so I used to use tampons and sometimes the cotton would feel really scratchy. Haha bloody good, very appropriate wording
      See I would definitely agree in most situations, but I am still to this day using those two cups I got for $10 and they have been working wonderfully. No leaks, no smell, no issues. Granted, I tell people never to buy cheap binders or other stuff since those can be dangerous. Thank you for making this point! I think the menstrual cup industry may be slightly different with the pink tax and it was more of a new thing only a few years ago. Since so few companies sold them, so they were able to price them higher? Not sure, but again, thank you for making this point!! Better safe than sorry

    I have an arm implant and no period! Do not have to think about it for 3 years. I don’t know if there is an equivalent to it that doesn’t interfere with hormones (I heard something about a pill?) but if ur pre-hormones and won’t have access for a while, this may be the move! It was free with my healthcare.

    1:05 I'm a cis female and I related to this statement SO MUCH!! I always had sooo much dread and hatred during my period because I hated dealing with it and HATED spending money on something half the population never has to worry about spending their money on. BUT after I started using period cups a d reusable cloth pads I felt SO MUCH FREEDOM afterwards and stopped dreading my period so much. It's so much more quiet and easy to deal with than traditional pads and tampons. Plus the lack of spending money on my period for the last 4 hears has really given me lots of mental relief!
    Long story short, I totally related to this feeling and I'm so happy you found something that you like and helps you in the way you need! 🥰

    it works for this enby too! like you, i also got mine to be more eco friendly, but it really does help alleviate the stresses of getting my period. I always keep a (relatively discreet) pencil bag on me with my cup (or just the pouch if I'm using it, or have yet to boil it), a spare pair of underwear, and a plastic bag (for bloody underwear).
    it's so much more discreet, and I only needed to buy it once (i know i should replace it in a few years, but its not a bimonthly purchase). Helping the planet, and my wallet!
    For my cycle it lasts me from morning until i get home from school, and then again until bed for the first 2 days, and then I practically don't have to empty it until the week is up, so that's super convenient for me personally.
    Not to mention pads never really work for me for some reason, i can't even pull up my pants without it sliding out of place, even with wings, and since my mom and sister don't use tampons, it just made sense to switch over, and give the rest of my tampons to my friends who pretty much only use them.

    I'm a trans guy and have used a shark week cup for a little over two years now. Like you said much less anxiety, stress and depression from shark week. There is the 'ugh' feeling when changing it but it's a lot less frequently than tampons or pads. Plus I hardly feel it when I'm wearing, to the extent where I wear pretty much all the time just because it's convenient as I seem to have a lot of discharge down there. (rip iron man boxers..). As you said, toxic shock likelihood is reduced by a lot and the shape of the cup actually helps with cramps as well. the best part: you can pack on your period and swim without a single f*ck needing to be given. i love it!

    part of the reason menstrual cups help with my dysphoria is that i used to be able to physically feel myself bleeding (espppp when you sneeze or stand up after sitting for ages) but with the cup/disc you never have that issue. you're so right that i have to think about my period so much less now

    I was able to get some pills that *finally* worked for me. Just take 2 every day and don't get a period. I have horrible, horrible dysphoria related to periods. I tried pads and tampons, then a menstural cup. Ended up crying on the bathroom floor.
    Luckily my doctor understood that I can't really live with it, and that T is a long, long time away (waiting list for just being accepted into the place is 1,5 year minimum. Other places have waiting times of 2+ years). So he got me on these.

Like, I didn't even realize just how much my period bothered me until I was able to go 12 hours without having to think about it. That and you don't feel the blood collecting anywhere like with pads. For trans men, when they take hormones it usually stops their menstrual cycle until you stop taking it or switch to another method of introducing testosterone into the body, so I would imagine it isn't really a thought that comes to their head, but then again I'm not trans

      If you choose to get bottom surgery, often times that includes hysterectomy. I do want that eventually myself, in part because my post pregnancy body looks pregnant whenever I've eaten anything. But not all guys choose to have it. Also as far as I know going on t does eventually stop your period. I'm pre everything though D:

      not an answer to your question, but I also have to wonder how many gynos deny trans people hysterectomies for the same reasons they deny women? Like, is a doctor more likely to accept that you have no interest in bearing children if you’re trans? Or less?

    Watching this on my period (it's the beginning and I'm in pain). I was researching cups but I'm afraid-ish of trying them out since I'm only used to pads. Anyhow this was a lovely video, really mind opening on how trans men handle periods and such. Also the way you talk about it like its not a huge hindrance on your life, you have periods and that's that, having it doesn't make you any less of a man. Love the art aswell ^^.

    • @PhoenixAnimations
      @PhoenixAnimations  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A very well rounded comment right here haha! I love how you describe how I talk about periods though - very accurate! I made this video for the main reason that it is a rather taboo subject people avoid. If I were to talk about it like it were awkward or something, it may give off a different tone. Periods happen though and I want everyone to be as comfortable as possible during them. I hope yours settles down soon! Mine are always the WORST on the second day...

    As another trans guy who uses menstrual cups, i love them
    I also picked mine up because i was tired of paying for pads and tampons and just wanted something i didn't have to worry about replenishing. It helps relieve any dysphoria for the same reasons as you and it actually makes my cycle far more bearable every month. I don't have to worry about anything popping out or overflowing or being visible through my clothes.
    I did buy a sterilizing thing for them (because you need to either boil or steam them after washing to sterilize) and I held on to some of my old tampon packaging to store them all together (it's a nicely made plastic container with a metal lid, plus i can store other menstrual products alongside them.
    I do still have tampons on hand because, personally, i have the moments where i either can't deal with a cup or don't want to, so i have a backup plan if something goes awry.

    btw I'm a cis woman and find a cup paired with period underwear to be the most comfortable option if I'm living at home with a bathroom I can be alone in and a washing machine. The underwear are the BEST at night. Seriously. So comfy as opposed to how I used to literally stain my PJs EVERY MONTH when I used a pad at night. Not to mention having to try to sleep on my side so that it wouldn't leak out the front or back, but it literally ALWAYS WOULD ANYWAY.
