Originally it was "International" because they offered different varieties of pancakes and crepes, sweet and savory, from around the world. Over time the pancakes/crepes took a back seat. When I was a kid I think they had varieties from 25-30 countries and the A-frame restaurants were strewn with the flags of all the nations represented. They also used to have a lot more than just 4 syrups.
@@colinschaeffer3940 Now, but not originally. They used to have a good variety or real fruit and maple syrups. One of the big reasons we went to an IHOP or similar was because they had all the different types of syrup. Raspberry strawberry boysenberry blueberry etc in addition to plain old maple syrup you find everywhere. Different flavored pancake syrups is a thing in the USA and missed a great opportunity to experience it.
Make your own. Never understood people acting like coconut syrup was some big ta-do. It's nothing but coconut milk and corn syrup. Pecan Butter syrup is almost as easy. Add toasted pecans, a spoon of melted butter and a bit of vanilla extract to regular pancake syrup. Fruit syrups are made by cooking whatever fruit in a small pan with sugar (and a bit of cornstarch if it needs thickening) and stir until thickened. Here's a budget saving tip - instead of draining canned fruit liquid down the sink, use it for those expensive pancake syrups. Add some sugar and maybe some cornstarch, heat to thicken and done!
I laugh a little when I see a Brit's reaction to our endless coffee or tea refills. Well, I guess most restaurants here in the US also give free refills for soft drinks too. When I go to Scotland, I try to remember that they don't give free 2nds for drinks, but I inevitably forget and end up shaking my head and smiling.
I saw Steven on the thumbnail and my mind didn't register it at first, but then I was like, "IT'S BEN!" because Ben is my absolute favorite in his ER skits. 😆
Love that these guys are down to try a lot of food that Americans would find "basic". They want to experience and relate to the simple things, and it speaks to the heart! Now I want pancakes 😅
Gotta admit, as a Scandinavian, those are exactly they places I wanna go 😂. I was so excited when I went to Target last time I was in the States hahahhhaha. All my dreams coming true 😂😂
@frejamller2416 I have had plenty of foreign co-workers and friends tell me the same thing! I'm known to be the person who will drive you around to those places, just so you can have the "typical" experience. Just for reference, the reason she left the coffee with them on the table was definitely because they were outside. Sometimes IHOP doesn't if they're busy, but usually, if you are inside, most diners in America, the waitress will come over and fill your coffee cup several times. They actually do more running and more work than anyone serving lunch or dinner, but breakfast prices are so low that even if you calculate the tip correctly, it's still not much. I always try to tip the waitresses extra at breakfast, because they're doing more legwork
@@frejamller2416when you get here, you have to at least notice if not order the rooty tooty fresh and fruity breakfast. It's the funniest thing on the menu at IHOP to pronounce!
@@LindaC616 Ohhh that makes sense with them being outside. One part of me is like "Oh nice, free refills. Wish we had that" but another part of me also finds it ridiculous how much time they have to spend on going back and forth. Would make me feel bad as a customer 😅. I come from Denmark but have also lived in England, so I´m used to the whole "you get what you paid for"-thing, as those two countries are pretty similar at that point. I´ve also lived several years in Korea tho, and there, you can free refills for for example water, but you usually go up and get it yourself. In Denmark, even water is often not refill 😭😭. I don´t know. It might be a Scandinavian/European thing or because I´ve been a waitress myself, but I´m so used to making myself as little as possible as a customer. I don´t wanna be in the way or give them more work than necessary. Very nice of you to tip them extra tho. I´m sure they really appreciate it 🙏.

IHOP is okay. They rank as a family restaurant, like Denny’s. They added to their menu over the decades. If you want really great hotcakes from a chain, try The Original House of Pancakes. They started out in our Pacific Northwest. The first one I went to was in the 80s and outside of San Diego. I think Cathedral City. Just before I moved out of the Riverside area they opened one near Norco. The difference is huge. But expect to wait to be seated unless you get there early. They are a good sized and very popular. They are only open for breakfast and lunch. The pancakes always came warm enough to melt the butter. Unlike IHOP’s. Do ask for extra butter if you are getting a stack.
Love the original pancake house when it comes to food. Great pumpkin pancakes. The only issue is that my location is so fucking slow that it actually takes like an hour after ordering to get your food. Pretty good still.
It's interesting to see someone amazed by free refills on coffee. I never thought about that not being a thing everywhere, it's so ubiquitous in America you're honestly shocked when places don't offer it haha
One thing that I thought they'd nail, but missed, was the mix of sweet and salty with the pancake/bacon combo, for me that combination is just divine. Also re: full English breakfast, yeah we don't put beans, roasted tomatoes, mushrooms, blood pudding amongst others.
I thought it was “international “ because of the pancake menu they offer different flavors that are from other countries. The Swedish crepes come to mind at the moment.
IHOP ... when they started promoting the acronym instead of the full name is when they started changing the menu and took all the international types of pancakes, crepes etc off. They used to have all kinds of pancake type foods from around the world. Last time I was there they still had the ligonberry crepes (Swedish crepes) and the chicken Florentine crepes. It's sad to see that the only other country represented now is Mexico (kind of).
@@bethsmith3421 uh missing the obvious here.. BELGIUM. Not the different than routine Liege style made with more of a dough than batter, but still.... the classic round Belgian Waffle (whipped cream/strawberries) is present. French toast can be traced all the way back to Ancient Rome (Pan Dulcis) and therefore it **does** qualify as international... BUT as far as modern day Americans are concerned, the modern style was whipped up by some guy named Joseph French who didnt use the possessive on the name... so that's why it has that label. Similarly "German Chocolate Cake" has NOTHING AT ALL to do with Germany. The recipe was created by some woman with the family name of "German", so possessive apostrophe should also have been used there! LOL
As a monster fan of both these channels, a former EMT, and the very occasional patron of IHOP, this video was amazing. Steve makes the weird medical world hilarious.
Thank you, Steven's dad, for letting him come out and play with our two favorite Brits 😸 my vote will always be for the lingonberry crepes. And stay away from the ham, I think it's made from spare bicycle tires.
And IHOP is in 21 different countries, so I think the term International does apply... even if it's not in the UK. Also, maybe the word "International" describes the cuisine they once or still offer, not where it is. Kind of like "International House London", or "London International Airport" which is just in London, by the way, lol. Countries that have IHOPs: United States, Mexico, Canada, Puerto Rico, Panama, Ecuador, Guam, India, Pakistan, Peru, Egypt, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Bahrain, Guatemala, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Lebanon, Philippines, and Northern Mariana Islands.
Please do more videos with Steven Ho. You all have good chemistry together. A collaboration we didn’t ask for, however enjoy watching this video so much! ❤
Ketchup and tobasco is a MUST! Surprised you didn't get a biscuit! Pancake butter flip is essential so the syrup doesn't melt the butter off 😉 I'm so glad you tried the stuffed french toast, cheese on everything!
IHOP has locations outside the U.S. as well! They're in Canada, Mexico, Peru, Ecuador, Guatemala, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, India and Pakistan (source: Wikipedia). And Canadian teams also participate in the World Series.
I'm so surprised that the chocolate pancakes or red velvet cake pancakes weren't selected. This breakfast was so tame and like what you get for a picky little kid.
It's funny the pandemic is mentioned in this video, because I believe the quality of the IHOP experience drastically decreased during the pandemic and never really picked up afterwards. A lot of menu options decreased and because they took away all condiments from the tables, bringing new people to try IHOP was no longer fun. You had to ask for anything you needed, instead of having it readily available to you without asking-but at least the pancakes are still delicious!
@@LindaC616 Yeah, I know it wasn't their fault, but the IHOP experience hasn't been the same, unfortunately. What made it different from all other diners was gone. It's unfortunate, really.

@@LindaC616 I get that maple syrup is not to everyone's taste. It isn't even my favorite but I prefer the real thing over the artificial garbage they have at IHOP. I am with you on honey, it is my preferred topping for both pancakes and waffles. Of course, IHOP probably uses fake honey as well.
You all missed out on allot of the wonderful food IHOP has by just trying different pancakes. They've got awesome omelets and sandwiches, their fries aren't the best, but they have some sides that are really good.
Now, most have narrowed the selection to strawberry, blueberry, butter pecan, and original.
Butter Pecan is glorious.
Harry & David sells a peach cobbler flavored syrup
Yea Steven should’ve let them explore the different flavors of syrup
I laugh a little when I see a Brit's reaction to our endless coffee or tea refills. Well, I guess most restaurants here in the US also give free refills for soft drinks too. When I go to Scotland, I try to remember that they don't give free 2nds for drinks, but I inevitably forget and end up shaking my head and smiling.
That's probably why we're so damn fat and strung out and easily offended 😅
I saw Steven on the thumbnail and my mind didn't register it at first, but then I was like, "IT'S BEN!" because Ben is my absolute favorite in his ER skits. 😆
Stoked to see Sreven on here!! As a crusty AF ER RN, so glad to see him. He is so funny!!
the ER nurse..love him...all looks pretty good
Love that these guys are down to try a lot of food that Americans would find "basic".
@@frejamller2416 haha! Target is extra basic, but I get it! Some things you just want to experience 🙂
Seriously,
I have been waiting for this collab since the spoilers. Steve never disappoints! I am a huge fan of Austin, Ben and Rich. He’s such a genius! Looks so calm here though 😅
What’s that icon next to your name?
@@MK8MasterJunjieso sorry. Literally just noticed your question 🥺 It’s a symbol that I am a Jollybean, a paid member and it changes to different emojis depending on how long I have been a member ☺️
They did not get the stuffed French toast, they did not get the stuffed Crepes, they did not get one of their delicious omelettes.
Steven doesn't seem to be into the food rhe way Noah is
Why do I read this like Dr Suess' Green Eggs and Ham?
"Delicious omelettes" They probably did not get one because they don't exist. IHOP is disgusting unless you are hammered at 2am.
@@951Bigjosh FALSE! IHOP has delicious omelets and breakfast food.
@@LindaC616 Yes
This was so fun to watch! Love seeing you guys with Steve!
OH MY GOD I would've never seen this collab coming!!!
Nice to see them collaborating with Steven who is a revelation.
Made me smile when Steven added Tabasco to the ketchup..so good!!
A collab I never thought I wanted! Love seeing Steven on Jolly!
This concept is so amazing and these guys plus guests when they have them are always appealing-high 🎉mark's
Have more British kids trying American food like you did with biscuits and gravy. A very good episode.
I loved that episode. So funny & honest. Well spoken well dressed thoughtful students.
Mind blowing when people from different genres meet. More please!!!!
It's interesting to see someone amazed by free refills on coffee. I never thought about that not being a thing everywhere, it's so ubiquitous in America you're honestly shocked when places don't offer it haha
The last time I was at IHOP, they charged for refills. I was disappointed. I wonder if it depends on the location.
“Call 911 I’m retired” baby if you are a retired medical professional at your age you are killing it and I am so impressed. How fucking cool is that.
One thing that I thought they'd nail, but missed, was the mix of sweet and salty with the pancake/bacon combo, for me that combination is just divine. Also re: full English breakfast, yeah we don't put beans, roasted tomatoes, mushrooms, blood pudding amongst others.
This so definitely a worthy collab!!
Also Josh’s American accent is comping out again!!
I thought it was “international “ because of the pancake menu they offer different flavors that are from other countries. The Swedish crepes come to mind at the moment.
I can't believe they didn't get the Swedish pancakes!!! Those are the only thing I order there!
IHOP ... when they started promoting the acronym instead of the full name is when they started changing the menu and took all the international types of pancakes, crepes etc off. They used to have all kinds of pancake type foods from around the world. Last time I was there they still had the ligonberry crepes (Swedish crepes) and the chicken Florentine crepes. It's sad to see that the only other country represented now is Mexico (kind of).
Should've been house of international pancakes, then.
Oddly, we have places called The Original House of Pancakes where there are still international pancakes. They broke off a couple decades ago.
LOL
I love that they are willing to try everything and anything on here. 👍🏼
Josh in awe of Tabasco sauce in ketchup is so sweet 😂
Oh, I love that guy! Two of my favs together!!
As a monster fan of both these channels, a former EMT, and the very occasional patron of IHOP, this video was amazing. Steve makes the weird medical world hilarious.
When he put the ketchup and Tabasco together I knew we’d be friends!!
So glad to see the doctor flip the pancake over after buttering it!!
Thank you, Steven's dad, for letting him come out and play with our two favorite Brits 😸 my vote will always be for the lingonberry crepes. And stay away from the ham, I think it's made from spare bicycle tires.
Steveio! So glad to see this collab!
I gotta start using that spread butter flip technique on my pancakes 😂
IKR... what a genius idea...or as the guys would say... that's brilliant...❤
Been doing it but with peanut butter
⚜️ I thought everyone did this! It's the perfect way to melt the butter into the bottom pancake.
My mother taught me to spread butter between every pancake. Nowadays, I prefer plain pancakes and only resort to butter when they are too dry.
My father and I go to IHOP every Saturday! Fantastic video, y’all! Keep it up!
wow.. oyu have apparently no concern about calorie intake, AND you have a better budget than I do! LOL
What a wonderful tradition you and your father have ❤ He must make him happy to look forward to his Sundays with you all week! 😊
Great to see you three together. Do some more in the future.
Please do more videos with Steven Ho. You all have good chemistry together. A collaboration we didn’t ask for, however enjoy watching this video so much! ❤
Agreed ^^^
💯 ❤
Josh is the British Mark Wiens. The expressions and wow on everything.
Me as a Brit sitting on my very British sofa:
“ IHop looks great, where’s the nearest one?”
Closest to UK? Probably Augusta, Maine.
They are in at least 12 countries
Or New Brunswick Canada
@@boyscoutmatt There is an IHOP in Paris France and there is a IHOP in Germany.
@@jeffhampton2767 Someone should tell Wikipedia. Thanks.
More Steven Ho please. I'm glad Josh and Ollie have some great hosts for their American food tour.
Legend says that Josh is still SHOOKETH over the Flipping Buttered Pancake.. The collab we didn't ask for but definitely needed.
Two of my favorite TH-cam channels I one video. Love it.
What a great collab, guys! Thanks ❤
Ketchup and tobasco is a MUST! Surprised you didn't get a biscuit! Pancake butter flip is essential so the syrup doesn't melt the butter off 😉 I'm so glad you tried the stuffed french toast, cheese on everything!
no, its salsa and hot sauce.
Love your concern for your own mental health and for your sponsorship with BetterHealth.
When I feel a bit down, I know that I can watch one of your videos and feel a little bit happier. That’s guys. I really enjoy your work.
I'm so surprised that the chocolate pancakes or red velvet cake pancakes weren't selected. This breakfast was so tame and like what you get for a picky little kid.
You can tell Steven picked it
It's funny the pandemic is mentioned in this video, because I believe the quality of the IHOP experience drastically decreased during the pandemic and never really picked up afterwards. A lot of menu options decreased and because they took away all condiments from the tables, bringing new people to try IHOP was no longer fun. You had to ask for anything you needed, instead of having it readily available to you without asking-but at least the pancakes are still delicious!
True, but that's not on them, that's what they were required to do
@@LindaC616 Yeah, I know it wasn't their fault, but the IHOP experience hasn't been the same, unfortunately. What made it different from all other diners was gone. It's unfortunate, really.
He switched to be a full-time stand-up comedian? Wow, mad props to him for having the courage. And he has 6 years of stage experience, neat. This guy is definitely much deeper than I thought him to be, gotta change the way I read people and surely I'm gonna dig this guy's work
The World Series _is_ international. The Montreal Expos(until 2004) and Toranto Blue Jays aren't from the US.
I strongly suggest you two take a trip to southeast Louisiana. Look into the cuisine provided here. I’m very sure you will not be disappointed. Bon Temp Roulette!!!🎉🎉🎉
7:18 Josh is so easily impressed 😅 That's exactly how I spread the butter/syrup if I have more than one pancake
My former girlfriend originally hailed from England and I would often visit IHOP for the night breakfast at 02.00 in the morning. We always ordered corned beef hash as side dish. I miss IHOP after I moved back to Germany...
Corned Beef and Hash! I grew up with it in the Midwest and it's not typically found in North Florida restaurants. I miss it so much 😋
Ollie calling the ham revolting was hilarious😂😂😂. I just luv them
So excited for all these episodes on the back log while Ollie heals up as well as the max in Korea series. Can’t wait to see carrot land when it’s ready
Ach : what happened to Josh!?!
The syrup selection is something else!
They have many different ones but they are all garbage with artificial flavors and mostly HFCS. I hate, I mean loathe, artificial fruit flavors.
It's true that there are just sugary garbage, but as someone who doesn't like maple syrup, I would prefer to have the butter pecan or the strawberry if I'm going to have it and honey is not available
More episodes with Stevie pls ❤ I swear I can hear you guys talk and make jokes for hours 😂
You all missed out on allot of the wonderful food IHOP has by just trying different pancakes. They've got awesome omelets and sandwiches, their fries aren't the best, but they have some sides that are really good. Their crepes are great and I'm surprised you didn't notice how fluffy their scrambled eggs are, they mix pancake batter in the eggs
Their fries aren't the best? Now them's fightin words!
Damn I love Steve. I just found jolly and I like their content as well. Interesting to see creators collab like this. Love it.
Very much enjoyed this collab with Steven!
Classic pancakes with butter and blueberry syrup are my favorite! Next is the country fried steak 😋
Yessss the nostalgia! As an expat of 13 years I wish I could sit down to a late breakfast at IHOP or Denny's.
I've been out of the States for 2 years, and I just added IHOP to my mental list of places to go when I go back next year.
Root Tooty? Or Moons over My hammy?
@@zealous121 I hope you enjoy! ❤️
@@LindaC616 gotta be the grand slam breakfast for me! I always get a side of pancakes too because I can't choose between toast or pancakes. Though last time I was back (about ten years ago) they had these seasonal red velvet hush puppies and they were super good!
@sednonsatia lol, you're practically my twin! 🤣
I had not been to one in a long time, because 25 years ago, I was in Arizona on vacation, went to 1 at night, and got mugged. So there was just a bad Association. Poor Brits man...
But just a heads up for anyone outside of the US, coffee refills are usually free at MOST places. They surprisingly not free in most fast food joints or in specialty coffee shops.
I always love their food clink thing, its adorable
