On “My Car Story” we're in Rosemont IL at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals on 11-18-22.
We’re looking at a 1962 Plymouth Sport Fury Convertible in Red Paint. The car comes with a 413 CI V8 “Max Wedge” engine with push button automatic transmission.
The car's Owner is Joe Jordan. Joe’s had this car since 1995. Joe shares he was looking at cars in a salvage yard and noticed this car although stiped of all its parts looked like it was set up under the hood as a “Max Wedge” car. To his good fortune, he restored the car, and found out it was verified that he has a real RARE Max Wedge Car.

Lou, that is one rare and beautiful MoPar! Chrysler, in my opinion, has always been the leader in rare and innovative ways to make their cars go FAST! Chrysler certainly proved it at the track during the 1960's. The 413, 426 Wedge, 426 Hemi, 440 Magnum, 440 Six Pack, 383 Magnum, 340 Six Pack, Legends All ! Don't forget the Golden Commando Hemi's in the 1950's!

Joe shows a lot of love for his Plymouth by keeping it in such pristine condition. Those old MOPARs did not like cold weather or extreme heat also. Very temperamental. That can be fixed with a Holey Sniper set-up. But once they got started they could smoke those tires! Thanks to Joe for the MOPAR history lesson. Thanks for posting Lou. Have a blessed day.

I'm a Christian man that serves in my church and I served for 20 years on active duty with the US Navy. Those old MOPARs were very temperamental. If a person wanted to make it a daily driver out of one they need to upgrade the ignition and fuel system. That is all I'm stating. The Plymouth is beautiful and well restored. I hope Joe has many miles of happy driving. Everyone have a wonderful life and be blessed by our Lord Jesus Christ.

Once again your videos bring back memories. One of the kids I grew up with had a 63 Sport Fury convertible. His was originally a 318 but his dad was in the used car business and his mechanic put a 413 cross ram engine in it out of a Wrecked Chrysler 300. Another one of my High School buddies dad had a 62 Savoy with a 431 max wedge in it. It was still a street terror in 1969 when we graduated form high school.

Hello again, Lou! It is such a wonderful treat to see a '62 Sport Fury convertible. It was rare when new (1,516 were made); that is the biggest reason why you don't see many today. It is more than 60 years old, after all. I thought I heard the owner say that there are only two known to survive, so the chances of seeing one now is awfully slim! (I did see a '62 Fury _(not a Sport Fury)_ convertible in the Baltimore area in the late 1980s; I haven't seen it since then.) That red and black interior is awesome; as is the instrument panel. I saw quite a few '62 Plymouths when I was a child, and I thought they looked rather odd, especially at the front. I couldn't help thinking, "Are those headlights in the grille, or are those gigantic parking lamps?" Today, they're not all that bad looking, because you simply don't see that many! This would have been Ward Cleaver's "mid-life crisis" special; I wonder how June, Wally, and The Beaver would have felt about that! 😀.
Anyway, thanks once again, Lou, and keep those videos coming! _(3/4/2023)_

My Dad's first car was a 1962 Plymouth Sport Fury Two-Door Hardtop. It was three years old when my Grandfather bought the car from their neighbor. It belonged to his wife and only had 11,000 miles on the odometer. Fully loaded with Air Conditioning, Power Windows, a 361 C.I. V-8, and a Torqueflight 3-speed pushbutton transmission. It was Silver Blue with a Blue/White Interior. He told me they paid $1,800.00 for the car because that is what the Chrysler dealer offered them on a trade for a 1965 Chrysler New Yorker. He loved that car!

Lou my hat’s 🎩 off to Joe not only for the search 👀 🔍 🔦 and rescue 🛟 of that ride but for the complete restoration of it. Lou what an awesome, amazing, excellent, fantastic and outstanding restoration he has done ✅ on that ride.
He deserves more than kudos Lou. People don’t know, forget or remember back then but a lot of your classic tv 📺 shows not only driven, drove and used Antique, Classic and Vintage Cars by the Big Three Ford, Chrysler and GM but they also Sponsored the Shows as well too.
Again Lou my Hat 🎩 is off to Joe on the complete restoration of his Ride and to you Lou, my compliments on the awesome 👏 😎 🤩, amazing 🤩 videos that you produce, provide and bring us. Thanks 🙏 😊 again Lou. Sincerely Yours Truly Ivan I J 😎😎😎😎 P.S. what’s the website where a person can get their hands 🙌 on a lot of books 📚, brochures and magazines of the Big Three Ford, Chrysler and “GM” General Moto.??

Dodge and Plymouth's downsizing for '62 wreaked havoc on sales, but, man, it was a boon for performance.

Stunning Fury. And, whenever I see a Plymouth or Dodge with a 413, you have to circle back to one of the Beach Boys' great car influenced tunes - "Shut Down". That song tells the drag racing story of a fuel injected Stingray going up against a Super Stock Dodge with the "Four - Thirteen". " " They're revvin' up their engines and it sounds real mean "" The Stingray gets the checkered flag in the end. ; )

I’m probably a minority on this opinion, but I always liked the ‘62 Plymouth Fury and the ‘62 Plymouth Valiant. I know a lot of people who didn’t care for the look, but I liked the horizontal detail near the top of the fenders. On the Fury, it was accented by a thin chrome strip that really made it pop!

Just curious where the owner orders parts for the W31.
? Where does a person order the stickers and chaulk to detail the chassis? Is there a book that shows how the chassis Is detailed? I own a 1970 W31 red over white with 32,000 actual miles.

Designed by Virgil M. Exner Sr. in the fall of 1960, after he had his assistant Cliff Voss complete design of the 1961 Plymouth. Exner followed the rear deck design of Voss' 1961 Plymouth, but took a clean sheet of paper to design this one, along with the 1962 Dodge. He followed his "asymmetrical" design theme on the dash, the instrument panel layout. The result is a completely new and beautiful modern post-fins design, which you either loved or hated. I love it, although it is totally different from all previous Plymouth designs, and a marked difference from his Forward Look tailfins cars of 1955-1960.
The styling is similar to Exner's 1962 Dodge Polara concept, and bears a family resemblance to the economy cars,, the 1960-62 Plymouth Valiant and Dodge Lancer cars with the horizontal edges. Those cars were designed in 1958, and were similar to Exner's 1959 proposal for the 1962 DeSoto which was thrown in the dumpster.
The "Max Wedge" 413-V8 Chrysler engine with cross-Ram Induction and dual quads, is awesome! It's a different configuration to the original 1960 383 and 413 cross-Ram Induction manifold which was perpendicular to the shape of the car, this one is diagonal. With push-button Torqueflite. Congratulations, Joe, on a fantastic restoration and documentation on the car's history, and thanks Lou for bringing this car to the party!

Back in the early 1960s, this car was regarded as being just plain weird-looking!....But I secretly admired Chrysler, for offering such a variety of vehicles--and their engine line-up was ahead of the others, when it came to big-block power!..I even liked the look of the New Yorker models of that era. You just do not see many of these interesting vehicles on the road, as they had a reputation for rusting out pretty quick.

The brake lights and turn signals only worked on the outer 2 taillights, the in board tail lights only lit up when the park and/or head lights were on. Lesser Plymouths had only one tail light on each side and cars with manual transmissions didn’t have back up lights.
