Wow, a D-500! You don't get to see one of those motors too often, so lets all enjoy the cross ram goodness! The styling is just fantastic on this car as well. What a great looking car. Thanks, Lou!

There is something about these big old Mopars. Very rare, especially a convertible with that engine. Thanks so much, Lou!
Hi John, "Very rare, especially a convertible with that engine." You're right, a rare treat indeed. My pleasure sharing with you, and you're welcome, Lou
Wow! What an incredible car! A big convertible with big fins and a big engine, what is there not to like? That smile on your faces after the second gear chirp says it all.
Hi Tim, Happy to read "Wow! What an incredible car!" :-) Glad you're along for the ride, Lou
A beautiful exactly restored car. I like it when they keep the original radio and wheel covers. The trunk is immaculate.

Wow, I had no idea that this car existed. I thought the Dart didn't come out until smaller version was made, and so much nicer than the Darts from late 60s to mid 70s that my father owned. Fantastic find!! Thanks for sharing, Lou!
Hi danam0228, Happy to share this car with you. You're welcome. Good news! Here is one more for you to enjoy, Lou th-cam.com/video/QSxLTnUwzlU/w-d-xo.html
The compact Dart was originally The Lancer, which was Dodge’s version of The Valiant, while Dart was a full sized model.
This WAS the smaller Dodge essentially a Plymouth under the skin. If you saw the Matador and Polara with the lights on the fin tips you'd see the difference in size immediately. Valiant was the true compact to battle Lark followed by Dodge's Valiant in '61 called another recycled Dodge name "Lancer". 👀
Look at this beauty Lou another beautiful old memory you just don't see these old beauties until you visit Lou Costabile thanks Lou.
Hi Leroy, Happy to share this "beautiful old memory" with you :-) You're welcome, Lou
One of my FAVORITES! I am soooo Jealous. I never knew this body style the 1960, and 1961 existed until the Internet was in my home in 1995. I still remember being in AWE over the photos. And so RARE. There are a few Fully Loaded Wagons of the 1960 on here that is amazing seeing it’s a wagon and most were abused. Love Love Love this style. I did own the 1961 Dart Seneca push button Slant Six with very low miles that the paint was dull so I had it sprayed and put the wide whites on it and WOW in the light Green it turned heads. I drove the car everywhere in good weather. Should have never sold it. A man from Canada came to the US looking for a different older car and seen mine at a garage being tinkered with oil change and tune up. The Man from Canada was in LOVE with the car and made a offer on the spot I couldn’t refuse. What a Dummy. The Moneys gone and so is the car lol.
Hi gene978, Happy to read "One of my FAVORITES!" :-) Glad to read this car brings back memories of your car. Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou

Hi Сергій, Happy to read you enjoy this "great car" :-) Lou
Rene has a fantastic Dodge. I have been to many Car Shows over the years and the 1960 Dodges are the most rarely seen of all. Thanks Lou.
Hi CJ Design, You're right. A rare treat to see one of these today. My pleasure sharing with you. You're welcome, Lou
What a fantastic Phoenix! Thanks Lou and Rene. Brings back a flood of memories. My Grandpa had a 4 door '60 Phoenix that my brother unfortunately backed into in our driveway with his '64 Savoy.😢 Then Grandpa traded it in on a new '68 Buick Skylark! I missed the Dodge.
Hi Jim V, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Grandpa's car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Hello again, Lou! What a special treat you have showed us! A very rare 1960 Dodge Dart Phoenix, a red convertible and - holy moly, a D-500 engine! I've heard of the D-500, but I have never actually seen one. But I always knew there have been Dodge Darts in 1960; they were everywhere when I was little. Now you don't see even one today, let alone one with a D-500 engine! Those cross rams suggest extraordinary power, I'll bet! Oh, I'd love to see a car like this, and remember how cars were made back in the good old days. This car looks as though it could have been in an old film from the early '60s; you usually saw Chrysler Corporation cars in some movies, or Ford cars in others. This one looks like Ward Cleaver's "mid-life crisis" car. I wonder what June, Wally, and the Beaver would have thought!
Anyway, thanks once again, Lou, for another exciting video! I am looking forward to more new ones on old classics! _(11/10/2023)_
Hello Know Bodies Full, Happy to share this "special treat" with you :-) You're welcome. Good news! Here is one more D500 for you to enjoy, Lou th-cam.com/video/9gYNZbVpDY8/w-d-xo.html
Wow! Wow! What a beauty!! D-500 engine makes it even better! Fantastic video! Thanks, Lou!
Hi Jon, High praise :-) You're welcome, Lou
That's a car you can spend all day with finding cool things about it. Can't be many around with that combination of options. Absolutely gorgeous Dodge
Hi FUBAR Model Yard, You're right, lots to look at and enjoy with this car :-) Lou
What a sweet car. These Dodge, Plymouth and DeSoto are highly prized. I like that the fins are small compared to the Cadillac of the same era. It's great to hear that 383 get it on when it hits second gear. I have noticed some great Mopars in Canada. John Scotti is a dealership in Quebec that has some Mopar race cars. BTW I don't have any affiliation with them.
Hi Larry, Happy to read "What a sweet car" :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Absolutely Gorgeous Ride!
I had a '60 Dart Pioneer Wagon back in the early 80s. It was stolen along with 25 others and ran through a crusher. Police were Zero Help.
Hi Bensons Speedshop, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Pioneer Wagon :-) Sad to read the end result :-( Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou

That clock! And the dash ! Wow! Every single level of Chrysler corp offered something fabulous! This thing!!
Hi Jeffrey, Happy to read you appreciate this car :-) Lou
I had a 61 Dart Phoenix, my first car it had a 273 and I loved it ❤.

Such a magnificent car and especially rare with the cross-ram setup. This is the exact car my parents had when I was born (except theirs was a slant 6). Absolutely loved Chrysler engineering and design during this time frame...
Hi Gary, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Parents car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Thanks for taking us along for the fun ride in your 60 Dodge. 🚀
You're welcome Chris :-)
My first car in1970 was a '60 Dodge Dart Phoenix convertible same color as this one, (Vermillion) with a white top. Mine was a 318 4V with the pushbutton auto. It didn't have the swivel seats and the interior was red and black. On the door and quarter pads; red where the black is and black where the white is. Rene's also has front and rear bumper guards and the radio antenna on the right fender. I didn't have the bumper guards and the antenna was on the top of the right quarter panel just past the start of the fin. I was told that that was a dealer installed option. I had that car for 22 years, but the NW Ohio winters took it's toll on it and it eventually rusted beyond repair.

One of the best cars you've ever featured on your channel! A time travel back to a 1960 show room! 😍😍😍😍😍 Thanks Lou!
High praise! You're welcome motorTranz!
My Grandparents bought one of these brand new in a hard top. They lived on a small farm and also had an old Dodge pickup and a logging stake truck. They had a 36 Ford, before the 60' Dodge.
HI Nicky, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Grandparents car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou

First time I've seen one of those. Wow. Car looked great and the engine....again. Wow. I didn't know Dodge made anything like this back in 1960. I had heard of the Dart, but didn't know it was all this in 1960.
Hi Tommy, Happy to read "Wow. Car looked great and the engine....again. Wow." :-) Good news! Here is one more for you to enjoy, Lou th-cam.com/video/QSxLTnUwzlU/w-d-xo.html
Thanks Lou. What a nice dodge.

I was born that year, those cars are very familiar, love the heavy metal comfortable cruising, I like comfort, don't need cornering and hp unless you have a racetrack.
Hi John, Happy to read "I like comfort" :-) Glad to read you and this car share the same birth year, nice. Lou
This is a car I’ve not heard of before and did not know was built. I’m a fan of these big cars already; especially this one and it’s red.

Smoking hot car! Haven't seen one in years. Thanks Lou. 👍
High praise :-) You're welcome Pete's Taint.
1960 D-500 and Plymouth Golden Commando were 361s not 383s. Very potent none the less. Our family had one back in the day. I love that Lou documents these old MoPars. Good work.
Hi Steve, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Lou pays for all tire wear on Mopars during the drive. It's in the contract. That Dodge is torque monster!
Hi Randy, Happy to share this torque monster" with you :-) Lou
What a rare treat!
My pleasure sharing this "treat" with you :-)
I actually gasped when I saw that cross ram !!
NICE !!
Hey, nice car Lou and he drove down from Québec. That guy really knows how to restore a nice car, congrats to the man. Bravo M. Delisle une très belle voiture. Great Video Lou. Cheers or as we say in French ``Santé``
Hey Andy, Happy to read you enjoy this "nice car" :-) My pleasure sharing with you. Cheers, Lou
That Dodge looks and sounds fantastic. What a sweet cruiser! Love the engine descriptions at 6:13 "fuel consumption during normal driving operations is surprisingly low!" But who wants to drive normal when you could listen to those dual quads open up?

Nice car Lou, I love it. Thanx Lou.
Hi Ollie, Happy to read "I love it." :-) You're welcome, Lou
The Torqueflite CANNOT be considered an automatic slushbox that's for sure!!! Love that chirp into second gear!
2nd gear chirp is nice!
I always thought there were only three levels of this car: Dodge Dart Pioneer, Dodge Dart Phoenix, and Dodge Dart Seneca. But Rene seems to indicate there was also a car called just the "Dodge Dart." Did I miss something? I know the model shown was also a D-500. I saw a s1958 Custom Royal D-500 at back to the 50s classic car show at the Minnesota State Fair about 8 years ago. Thank you for showing this car!
Hi Jed, Hmmm, I'm not sure if you missed something or not, and hoping a Viewer can share knowledge to your question. My pleasure sharing this car with you. You're welcome, Lou
Beautiful car and yes they are pretty quick..quicker than people think better watch out in your Mustang or Camaro kids :)

Cool Dodge! 😎👍💪
:-)
Any ‘60 Dodge is a treat! That engine bay looks like a nuclear reactor is plonked down inside!
Viva La Phoenix!
Hi Rob, Happy to share this "treat" with you :-) Thanks for viewing and sharing, Lou
I lost my original comment before posting. So I'll just say ...
This car hasn't gotten enough attention. It's a rocketship! Great video Lou. Would Rene' want to adopt a big kid?
D500, a little chirp? That car was diggin'! I thought the clock was a compass at first. Great bumper and the exhaust note coming from it, mmm mm.
I remember the wagons and four doors, don't remember seeing the convertible. There's some nice hardtops too.
Hi Mark, Happy to read you enjoy this "rocketship" :-) Good news! Here is one more for you to enjoy, Lou th-cam.com/video/QSxLTnUwzlU/w-d-xo.html
@@loucostabile Ha! Another one. Has me wondering if the bumper on Rene's is part of the D500 option. Different rear bumper on the one in your link.
A more rare mopar, so wonderfull.
Happy to read you enjoy this rare car :-)
That is one Sweeeet Ride!
NICE!
What a gorgeous car!
Happy to read you appreciate the looks of this car :-)
I'm a big fan of the 1957-1959 Doge cars....they started to lose me with this model. Something just was not right with the overall look of the car, almost as if they were trying too hard. With that said, this is a beautiful example of the 1960 Dodge. It is in GREAT condition. The best part of this car is the interior. They got that right! Love the space age dashes from Mopar at that time. LOVE the clock! So unique! That's what I learned from this video, the clock. That D500 motor sounds wonderful!
Hi Brian, Happy to read the details you enjoy with this car :-) Lou
It sure is a whole lot better looking than the 1962 "Leave it to Beaver" car.
Happy to read you prefer this car to the "Leave it to Beaver" car :-)
Another great post, Lou. 👍. As a teenager, family had a red 61 Phoenix convertible. Believe that in 63, Dart became a compact. Interesting how 60 and 61 as junior full size (only two years) differed so much in styling. 61 styling seemed to preview radical proposed restyle of 62 Plymouth and Dodge chicken wing looks. Best feature for me is the see through speedometer and instrument panel which was also used on 61 DeSoto.
Back when autos used aspirational names for model identification. President, Ambassador, Statesman, New Yorker, ad infinitum. Not so sure about Studebakers DICTATOR 🤔 but maybe on target TODAY 😉. Now everything is a combination of letters and numbers! 👎
Hi RICK 0e, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Lou, memories light the corners of what's left of my mind 😮, and you always do aFINtastic 😉 job of helping to bring them back! 🏆
Looks like she moves out pretty good.
I agree.
Good-looking car! For the fun of it, I looked online at photos of the '61, '62, and '63 Darts and found that the body styles changed drastically from one year to the next. Crazy to think how much Chrysler spent in those days to re-design and re-tool year after year. To be honest, the styling wasn't necessarily an improvement after each change.
Hi Mike, Happy to read "Good-looking car!" :-) Sometimes the styling is a winner, and sometimes, not so much, Lou
Beautiful car, Lou, however I prefer the 1960 Dodge Dart Pioneer or Seneca models. Their chrome treatment is not as extreme as the Phoenix. When I was a little girl, my uncle had two 1960 Dodge Darts that he bought new: a Pioneer that was dark gray that he drove and a Seneca that was a really pretty mint green. that my aunt drove. They both were 4 door sedans. Beautiful styled fins and I love the rear wheel treatment where it almost looks like a wheel skirt.
Hi Dawn, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this "Beautiful car" :-) Glad to read this car brings back memories of your Uncles cars. Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Beautiful. The interior looks more modern than today’s blah dark grey interiors. Why ‘Dart’?
A small missile with a point and feathers. Dart also means something causing a sudden pain.
Phoenix? Death then Life. 🤔
Hi Cobra Charmer, Happy to read "Beautiful". Well this one is not a "small missile" but the back does kinda look like feathers in a dart :-) Lou
@@loucostabile Thanks Lou. I’m a Ford man at heart. This year was the 1st
time I didn’t go to Chrysler Nationals in
Carlisle Pa. They have the most variety of cars on display. Ford Nationals are 80% Mustangs. I haven’t attended Ford Nationals in 6 years. Thank you for bringing these cars to light.
Phoenix is not necessary a negative word. We know that Horace and John the “The Dodge Brother’s” died from the Spanish Flu. And yet, they live on through their automobile. 🥹👍
Great car 🚙 ❤😂😅.
Happy to read you enjoy this "Great car" :-)
I had a Seneca 4-Door 1960 Dodge - running condition - 175.00 $
Hi Pierre, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Mr Drysdale probably had one of these in 1960. Or Miss Hathaway.
Thanks for sharing.
@@loucostabile But ,no matter what, the Clampett's always stayed loyal to their old truck .
he might have had one before the imperials. miss hathaway had a 62 plymouth that could turn into a 65 dodge when she came to a stop, later she had a cuda. the truck could also turn into a spy car@@barrycuda3769
To think the marketing called this restyled Plymouth the "compact Dodge" !! Well, if you saw the Polara or Matador next to it.....🚀 First non luxury car to have an AC alternator instead of DC generator. 👀
Hi cuda426hemi, Thanks for viewing and sharing your knowledge, Lou
@@loucostabile You find the *best* Mopars on the web, Lou, keep it up. 👍🏻 👀

All that intake and a single exhaust?
yep
Christine’s little step sister Carlene.

Unibody was not the best back then. Overtime and wear the body/frame would flex and lose its tightness.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Wow, great car. Just keep it away from Gomer Pyle and Sgt. Carter.
Hi Jay S, Happy to read "Wow, great car." :-) SHAZAM! Lou
The cross-ram induction was never proven to boost horsepower. Nice to look at, though.
Thank you for sharing.
Dart extra large 🤔
You're right :-)
