Last statement I saw from Blue Ridge said they were negotiating to buy the Ontario machinery with the goal of continuing production in Franklinville, but that was a few months ago.

Glad to hear the news. I've been trying to get an S35VN Rat 1 for weeks now with zero luck. Let's hope they make something like that again because the Rat 1 really deserves better than Aus 8 and D2.

That’s encouraging to hear. That’s too bad about the 56 employees who’ll be out of work. Hope they can find work somewhere else.
I believe I only have one Ontario knife. I have a Rat folder which is a great knife that I’ve carried before. I should definitely get more.

Although I've heard of and seen Ontario knives many times here on TH-cam since I got into the hobby, I've never owned one! They give me a nostalgic feeling when I come across them. Glad to see they're being produced in the US, though!

I have to buy a NY made Ontario soon. I live in NY and OKC has a rich history providing knives for our military service members etc. they will probably be my next fixed blade.

Ontario has been my favorite brand for some time. I love 10xx series steels and don't give a crap about 'super steels'. I like collecting fixed blades and enjoy their RAT series as well as their SP series. Old Hickory knives are my favorite kitchen knives, too. Yes, they require extra care but I have a couple that were owned by my great-grandmothers and regularly used in their kitchens. That is quality! The first thing I did when I heard about them being sold/closing was order the Ontario Marine Raider Bowie I have intended to add to the collection for a while. Got it for fifty something bucks a couple of weeks ago on Amazon and now the few dealers who aren't sold out of all Ontario models are asking double the price as their products were when I ordered that one. I just hope that Blue Ridge continues to use high carbon steels like the 10xx steels and manages to keep prices at least close to where they currently are.

Too bad another American knife company has been sold. Glad to hear they'll still be in the U.S.. I do have the Rat I and II with D2 steel, like new in box. Just never had a need to use them, as I usually grab a Spyderco for the pocket. Thanks, and enjoy.

Scored one of these last year in the 1095 stamped version. This thing is a beast and take some abuse. The nail cutting with no damage to the steel is impressive! The only thing I'm debating is keep the micarta scales or get some orange G10 by The Knife Connection like I did with all my RD knives.

Glad to hear a bit more! Thank you!
I personally have always loved Ontario knives. One my first fixed blades that was truly my own and not a passed down gift from family was an SP-2, the other being a Buck Vangaurd. I really loved that knife and still have it in very good shape. I'm glad however that I got it back in the Mid 90s when they were still 1095 cause I've not heard very good things about them recently due to a change in the steel used in them now. I believe they changed over to 1075 which I guess could be beneficial in some areas but from what I'm seeing in reviews from others it's not for the better.
Obviously this wont affect knives like the RAT 1 or 2 since they are AUS8 or D2. I personally prefer linerlocks because of them having the same scales on both sides of the handle. While frame locks are a good solid design, having the exposed frame just rubs my pretty big hands the wrong way even if they are callused. Since I don't like frame locks but also don't care for the bladeshape of the RAT 1/2 series I've been looking at both the RAT 1 and the ESEE Avispa and how close they are since some of the guys from ESEE originally worked for OKC and combine the two with the handle of a RAT 1 and the blade of the Avispa giving me the best of (imo per my preferences) both worlds. Maybe call it the "ARatspa 1"? And yes, I know some people might not like that due to the history of the two companies but I don't care, I like all knives.

I've noticed it too. It has been sounding off for the last four or five videos. Since I didn't see anyone else mention it I figured it might just be me.

Their machetes are by far the best on the market. I really hope they keep making them to the same standard.

Isn't Blue Ridge the same company that bought Cold Steel and SOG???

    This is good news.
My favorite OKC knives are the True edge and Ontario knives.
I just tried to buy their orange handled camper machete, but the only place that had them in stock was knife center and they want as much for shipping as the Machete cost.
I guess that's just the raise in general shipping prices ?

Even though it's made in Taiwan (which is important to me since I'm not supporting mainland China whenever possible,) my Ontario Rat 2 in D2 and CF handles is one of my daily carries. It's smooth and snappy to deploy with the thumb studs, locks up perfectly, the liner lock is easy to unlock, and it just looks great and feels great. Love that knife. I prefer them made in the USA but will be happy if they're still in countries like Taiwan, etc if they continue to maintain high quality assurance.
