Some of us older gamers remember the original AC long before any souls games so my reference is backwards. Souls/borne is like AC, not the other way around lol
You're right. I think AC laid a lot of the foundation for souls games. But then they refined the formula and have brought it (somewhat) back for AC. So it's coming full circle!
If the crayon eaters are still mad because AC6 isn't a souls-like, then they willingly chose to ignore every video, interview and article that said otherwise. There's no reason for anyone to believe this is a souls game, period.
I actually prefer dodges without I-frames. I feel that in the souls games the i-frames led to a "meta" where the best way to avoid attacks was often to roll directly into them, which is super counter-intuitive.
yeah the hardest thing for me getting into souls as a longtime monster hunter player is that youre supposed to roll really late and straight-up phase through attacks rather than dodge early and away from them (i know mh technically does have s but they dont work in the same way)
@@namkha209But the reasoning for doing so is different. In Souls games, you dodge into attacks because you are literally invincible and cannot be hit. But dodging into missles in AC is because of the inherent tracking of the missiles. Shortening the tracking distance means the missles have less time to orient towards you and likely will go over your head if their turning radius is too high. It's intuitive in AC from a physics standpoint, not so much in Souls games.
@@namkha209 Not exactly, but both have the same effect basically. If you get close enough, some missles don't have enough space to properly track the target. Which is why dodging into / under missles is an effective strategy in most cases.
@@deviouschimp4663already on NG++ and still getting more content, more arena battles, more armored core parts and weapons and more missions. There’s 3 endings with 3 final bosses.
So this is a much more useful tip from an old veteran (and I only say this because the tutorial builds are in the new game) the tutorial builds can be replicated and built upon, so try to use some of those tutorial builds, guys. They’ll help you to find your play style and get comfortable with what you want in your Armored Core
Some older AC games (looking at you Last Raven) are mostly hard because most AC foes are blatantly cheating using builds that are impossible to use yourself. Later games tend to ease up on this and rely more on better AI or more flexible gameplay design rather than jacking up the power of opponents artificially. I can basically run all of For Answer entirely using a single AC build because I have gotten so good with it but that game is a well balanced power fantasy.
The hardest armored core mission is when you play on hard in ACFA, on the 3rd playthrough if you get the orca line. You litterally 1v5 3x ACs, you have the terrorist with you, but he dies in 30sec. Only mission I've never completed after over 100+ attempts, even with 2shot Kojima cannon cheese
Dont know what this new armored core is like yet since i havent tried it but i can say that previous titles were hard if you didnt manage your miney properly and carelessly took too much damage and used up too much ammunition with powerful weapons. Previous titles, your balance could go into the negatives and you wouldnt be able to get any new weapons or parts until you got your balance into the positive. Beating levels skillfully, with little damage possible and killing many enemies fast was usually the best way to attain the S rank. One of my favorite battles is from armored core for answer, the orca ending. You became the boss and you had to 1v5 enemy mercenary ac. It was a fun battle.
I was thinking of putting the honorable mention of ammo management, but I thought it might compare too similarly to a souls like mana system, so I left it out. But whenever I think your mention of the Orca mission perfectly encapsulates the potential difficulty of AC. You have to manage fighting multiple tough enemies by isolating them, poking and retreating. Evading constant attacks all while trying to make sure you have to ammo to deal with all the enemy AC's
These ac1-3 fans are stuck in the past OR they are parroting influencers. Ammo hasn't been more than a passing concern since 4. It's the earlier game where you could go broke on ammo costs.
@815TypeSirius we haven't seen the expenses of the ammo for the big guns like the bazookas and such. We only saw costs for machine guns and rifles. Which those never cost much. It was the heavy guns that used to cost a lot.
It will almost certainly keep with the core idea that your meant to grind though rout memorization. Which means that looking for any and every way to NOT do what the dev feel you should do gets around the problems very easily.
I played a few of the older games (2, 3, 4, 4A) and I never felt like any of those games would force you this hard into getting such a very specific weapon setup to get through some fights. Sure you'd better adjust your build for the situations, like not using vertical missiles indoors and not bringing nukes to deal with waves of small fry, but it still left a lot of options. Overall I like how 6 made some encounters more difficult so you don't just bulldoze other ACs, but boss fights beyond that feel too restrictive to me. The game sometimes feels like bashing your head into a brick wall and finding the right weapon combo removes the mortar. SPOILER: I actually made it through Baletus yesterday only to find the mission right after to present me with a similar situation where I now have to figure out which specific weapons work against that behemoth. I haven't touched the game since and if this is how it's going to continue I don't think I'll get much more enjoyment out of it. Doing this once wasn't too bad, but twice in a row is just painful.
I don't think it's that restrictive. Belatus was restrictive in the sense that pulse weapons brought down the shield, there's only 1 gun and 1 sword for that. But the others, like the lava crab I've seen taken down several different ways. I saw someone use quad legs to hover and blast it's chimney with grenades. I shot it's eye from a distance with plasma rockets and used my sword on its chimney when it got close as part of evading. For the coral spider, I've seen people go full heavy weapon and shotguns, full ninja with swords, I actually used the quad missiles instead of recommend songbirds because I didn't like how it stopped my movement and pile bunkered the snot out of it. Brining a specific weapon, doesn't to seem to be as necessary as brining a weapon to fulfill a role, needing to build stagger, attack from long range, aoe, bring down shields, etc.
What makes Armored core titles hard? In the older titles, it was a legitimate matter of pushing the cap, or surpassing the skill ceiling. Many enemies had either mechanics, or parts that you the player did not. 4, and 4 answers, the dificulty came from having to manage positioning, range optimization, and rough controls. 5, and verdict day, rock paper cissors damage types, energy maintenance, and evasion were the trials to overcome. Yes, and they will be able to enjoy the challenge. Do I think veterans of the franchise will enjoy it? Without a doubt. And players will see a clear difference to the approach of pvp between vets and fresh blood.
So far, managing Assault Boost mid boss fight hasn't been a big need for me, but that might be because I'm running a light weight speed build to start with. What really needs to happen is the PS5 needs an extra set of back buttons.
Really good video man. Been hyping for this game for months now but every person that tried to explain how it is miss the mark for the new Ac fans but your video did it perfectly
Short answer, you gotta upgrade, but to upgrade, you need money. And to get money, you need to be fucking good at both the game and budgeting, because ammo and repair costs will eat your mission rewards. Otherwise, you're stuck with a shit mech as you transistion from early to mid game and can't progress any further unless you get that good, or you're playing Gen 1 or 2 and the game makes you reset with a random upgrade.
That doesn't really apply to this game. You can do the arena matches to get money and you don't have to pay for ammo or repair after the fight. A fight in arena takes 20 seconds. Easy money with no negatives
thank you, i really wasnt sure about the game, im not a fan of soulslikes and at first it sounded like AC6 might be more for me but im especially bad at multitasking and this choice paralysis is what i call choice fumble .... and i know that i would just have a bad gaming expirience. But it was difficult to get a good answer for my special case, as most reviewers are very expirienced in AC or similar games and rate the game from a "im well used to the gameplay now" POV and dont describe it like you did. thanks again! I can easily play air combat games, like warthunder, ace combat etc. but there movement is... way more predictable. Especially in Warthunder RB. This here is just too much for my slow brain :D And i dont want to make the game sound "bad" far from it, but i really had difficulty finding out if it was for me or not.
I think what most people are caught on is just the need for loadout diversity. Where something like Elden Ring has a very linear power curve. Armored Core is all over the place where one weapon might be physically incapable of defeating a boss. Another will obliterate them in moments.
It was absolutely worth grinding the test ac mission fairly early on to buy a bunch of parts to keep on hand so I could experiment a lot during boss fights and find a good set up.
Difficult arena opponents can be dealt with by choosing a map with a low ceiling, like the parking garage, so enemy ACs can't dodge your weapons vertically, and their missiles fail to launch properly because of the roof.
If you need help, I'd recommend trying to melee it a bit more. Melee really builds up a lot of stagger which is where your important damage windows are. If I remember correctly there are also some buildings you can use for protection
Dude armour core 6 made it easy for new people in my days we didn't have repair kit or hard lock mechanic 😂 we just have to do mullite tasking form keeping the big circle on the target and boost away from enemy incoming missile 😅 and managing Energy consumption and ammo in the guns
So would a claw grip be efficient? Coming from Phantasma and MOA and PS1 gen games, I'm still internalizing the swap of using the top buttons instead of the face buttons.

I will not be intimidated. I know it's gonna be a steep learning curve since I've never played the previous title's. I'm new and starting so I already I won't be great off the rip.
Modern Armored Core is a 3D bullet hell with dynamic economy management for billions of combinations that respond to a logic of weight and energy in their assembly. Reflexes and learning patterns alone won't get the job done.
Here’s a tip for everyone on console, if you wanna play the game tomorrow instead of Friday, set your time zone to New Zealand it should let you play the game a day early so at the time of this comment we are 18 hours away
Playstation accounts are region-locked even if you change the time zone, so you would have to create a new account for New Zealand, and for digital purchases means you'd have to buy the game on the new account as well.
To me forcing the player to have to switch gear is making avec weapons, core and attachment forgettable. It feel like it is used and throwed away depending on the situation, you don't get attached to you mech in any way. This to me is one of the greatest failure of the game.
Does that include the second and third playthroughs because those include entirely new missions, fights, and story elements. I'm in my second playthrough now
The biggest difference is that Dark Souls is *fair,* and Armored Core is *not fair.* In DS, there will always be a chance to dodge. It's skill-based. Armored core is unfair. You will be one-hit killed by un-telegraphed attacks. Your success is heavily based on how lucky the boss's attack patterns are. AC is not fair, and that's what makes it more fun.
I have yet to play an AC game where a balanced middle weight biped core couldn't comfortably take on any challenge. To me that is the ultimate end game goal of Armorred Core games. You futz around unlock and experiment with all the psrts and then develop your omni-core.
I look forward to getting my ass kicked. I’ve played souls since ds1 and elden ring while my favorite was not really that challenging. This will be like ds1 all over again.
its not a souls game though..... AC games were hard even before ds1 released... and it plays sooooo much differently as any of your typical from soft games. this game is not difficult IF you know how to modify your AC for every situation. so dont be disappointed if this game does not meet your taste because its VERY different from your "souls" games
But this is so close to a souls game compared to any other AC game you might just go ahead and admit its not a souls game exactly, but it is definitely not an Armored Core game.
@@GooberTroy I think with how many newcomers elden ring brought on AC6 could do the same just because of FromSoftware. Not to mention Bandi has been going strong as well so that of course is going to attract that fan base
It's NOT a Souls game. Start there. Seems like everyone's comparing 3rd person type games to Souls games nowadays. All this 'SOULS LIKE' wannabe who probably haven't played much more completed a Souls game.
"Armored Core Grip" was a meme, even back in the day. Stop purpetuating it as a thing that actually happened, at least mention that it was a joke from the start.
If your goal is to get an S rank in all missions, it can be quite difficult. If you just want to enjoy some customization and make cool mechs, it's not too difficult especially with the introduction of checkpoints

There can be a bit of a learning curve initially, but the games do a good job of easing you in. You got this!
@@GooberTroy from what I've seen the first few bosses don't look to intimidating or that difficult so there's that
i want to see how it will be to play in mouse and keyboard.
@ClericArmoredCore has a video that talks about that exact thing. Hope this helps!

@@GooberTroy thank you!
agree, game seems so fun...but the learning curve is steep!
For me Armored Core is basically The Demon Souls and Dark Souls before they were a thing.
Great vid
Modern Armored Core is a 3D bullet hell with dynamic economy management for billions of combinations that respond to a logic of weight and energy in their assembly.
Reflexes and learning patterns alone won't get the job done.
I can't follow wth is going on screen in game
Its hard because you have to tay up someones ass big time. Man do you have to be aggressive in this game. Its so awesome
@@Workout-Enjoyer well rip that’s unfortunate for PlayStation players, I totally forgot about that
6 months from now = Ok so I am on NG++++++++++++++++++++ annnnnnnnd....
To me forcing the player to have to switch gear is making avec weapons, core and attachment forgettable. It feel like it is used and throwed away depending on the situation, you don't get attached to you mech in any way. This to me is one of the greatest failure of the game.
Man, I hate the “difficulty debate”….is it tough? Sure. But that’s why you have a practice space.
What does this mean? You can learn this game.
AC been one of my favorite series since I played the 1st one on a PS1 demo disc.
Love seeing all the new ravens
Anyone else beat the game in a day and half 😁
Does that include the second and third playthroughs because those include entirely new missions, fights, and story elements. I'm in my second playthrough now
The biggest difference is that Dark Souls is *fair,* and Armored Core is *not fair.*
In DS, there will always be a chance to dodge. It's skill-based.
Armored core is unfair. You will be one-hit killed by un-telegraphed attacks. Your success is heavily based on how lucky the boss's attack patterns are.
AC is not fair, and that's what makes it more fun.
Heheheheh us original Ravens are going to have fun and in the PvP all the soul scrubs are to get slaughtered
Between AC6 and Exoprimal mech games are going strong
Let's hope the success of armored core 6 guarantees an armored core 7! Would love to see this genre get more attention
@@GooberTroyor an armored core 6 sequel.
@@GooberTroy I think with how many newcomers elden ring brought on AC6 could do the same just because of FromSoftware. Not to mention Bandi has been going strong as well so that of course is going to attract that fan base
Souls players have healing?....easy mode players.
No hit run inc. Actually Vaati is doing just that in one of his playthroughs
Stopcomparing this to souls games it’s totally different and armored core was there long before demon souls
YWNBAW
You have played a difficult game until you played ninja gaiden on Master ninja, all these game that people say are hard I think is just mid.
how difficult is this game?
If your goal is to get an S rank in all missions, it can be quite difficult. If you just want to enjoy some customization and make cool mechs, it's not too difficult especially with the introduction of checkpoints
Yes
@@GooberTroy okay, thank you very much for the response!
