Thanks Neil, I was stressing my 1yr old Mac was done for - watched your video, used my (underpowered for macbook) iPad charger for 1 minute then switched back to the magsafe charger and Voilà! You're a lifesaver mate!
No way! Haha, that's great that the ipad charger worked - it's really screwy but no USB-C chargers worked for me, so stoked that it did for you Jason. You've managed to fix it without having to buy a new charger! Good luck with your Macbook!
I had this problem on a new mac. I let the macbook pro sit for a few months so the battery ended up dead when I tried to turn it back on. I had the flashing red light as well and tried a few things. I then decided to plug in a usb-c macbook pro charger and this allowed me to get the macbook charging. I was then able to change it back to the original charger with magsafe after I had a couple of percent on the battery. This reminds me of the old windows and/or mac where you had to trick it by removing the battery in order to get it charging again. Hope this helps.
It happens, when the battery is completely drained out. In my case at least, incountered 2 times. I used my Phone charger to charge it upto 1% and then used the macs original charger. It's working fine.
I had this exact issue minus the beer spillage 😂 Using another charging block with the same cable to get a little charge and then using the original block worked. Thank god for you and this video 🙌🏻
Hi All, I had the same issue where my Macbook Pro M1 Chip 2021 Model (16 inch) charger lights continusouly flashing orange on and off. This issue comes after I kept my macbook in off state for 15 days and battery was fully dead then It was not charging from its MegaSafe charger. I tried another Megasafe charger that too didn't work. So What I did was I tried to charge it with my mobile phone charging adapter by just replacing the megasafe Adapter ( just connect its usb c side to the mobile adapter and leave the other side connected to macbook). I kept this for 20 minutes. It charged some 1% then I used my Megasafe adapter it started working, I think this is bug where if you keep your laptop for a longer time dead then its charging needs some kind of charging reset. The reset can be done using another high wattage mobile adapter.
Hey everyone… I’m having this issue but have not had any luck with the charger swap… I don’t recall my battery being out of charge (was watching Netflix the night before) and it just didn’t turn on the next morning. Any tips?
I am fetching the same issue , my mac has still 40% charge , I have tried with different adapter, type c and also upgraded the OS to latest but still having the yellow flashing issue. Now only one way left that is completely draining the charge. Should I do that
Thank you so so so much for this video! I was stuck with this problem at a very inconvenient time and you literally saved my life. What I used was a charger from my wife's MacBook Pro (but a different model than mine... Even the charger size was different). I was a little doubtful if it would be safe but I was desperate so did it anyway. Well thank you again sir!
Thank you for this very nice comment Ashwin, I really appreciate it. And really pleased that it might help and that your Macbook is working again. Good luck with your mac chargers in the future and thanks again.
Thanks. My battery had drained. I kept getting the flashing orange light with a number of chargers I usually use. Only when I plugged in an original Apple charger did it begin to charge again. I guess when the power is very low, the Apple charger understands how to recharger and other products do not. Thanks for the inspiration. I had a major presentation the next day and really needed the laptop
So I did have this issue and I think the problem is not the charger. In my case, I had multiple charger with magsafe and did not power on. The only thing that I had common with this video is that my MacBook was fully out of juice. So this is what worked for me: 1. Use the same charger brick that comes with your Mac, but change the cable to a type c and charge it that way. 2. Hopefully it should power on and when it does, the original charger should work. Did not have to buy another charger, so hopefully this helps
Thanks for the kind info Jonathan, appreciate it. I tried a USB-C cable but it didn't seem to work, but who knows, maybe it was a poor cable. Thanks again!

@neilmossey Surely, the day your computer got wet, your fabric-covered cable also got wet. It happened to me too. At first, it stopped working, but once it dried completely, it worked normally again. It seems it's not waterproof!
Oh sorry to hear this Maxx - and that's a new one for me... Does the help link in the description mention blinking green? Sorry I can't be more help, but would really like to know what it is now! Hope you manage to find a fix, and thanks again for the kind question
Hi, thanks for the kind question - yes, the one I got was identical wattage - though some in the comments are saying they fixed this with any charger. Hope this helps
Facing the same issue keeps blinking the battery is completely drained for sure. Starting with keeping the original charger for couple minutes hopes I don’t need to get a new charger
It's worth a try - but I thought I saw the Apple site say that the M1's reset the software when they start up - but go for it! Hope you managed to get your macbook going again George and thanks for the kind comment
Thanks for the video! My M1 was dead and charging with Magsafe flashing red. I switched the connecting cable to USB-c, it charged until about 10% and then going back to Magsafe cable again worked! 🤯
Just had the same problem, i just kept it charging with the flashing orange light and after 5/10 minutes (just after I looks at this video in fact 😂) I came back to my desktop and the MacBook was back to Life 👌🏻
Neil I'm in the exact same boat. Warranty just paid $780 for screen repair it's only 2 years old. Now paid $100 to have another charger shipped to me as having the flashing red light.
Had same issue with MacBook pro M1 almost 6 months used. I noticed this happened when the MacBook battery was completely drained. I charged it for 10 minutes with iphone charger. Then with the MacBook charger again, it still didn't work, blinking light. Waited for around 5 minutes and it started working again.
I had the same problem on my new MacBook Pro. I charged the battery via USB-C and was able to reset the SMC and then the NVRAM in sequence. This solved the problem without a new adapter
I have a macbook pro and my wife a macbook air. Her charger is smaller, but the cable that connects to the charger is identical. If I use her cable on my charger, it works. It doesn't look like it's broken or anything. It simply doesn't work.
I experienced a similar situation to yours with my macbook air m2 device. I applied to Apple and they tried a different magsafe cable with my adapter and it worked. The cable was replaced but after a while I experienced the same problem again. My cable was replaced for the second time. And now I am experiencing this problem for the 3rd time with my 3rd magsafe cable. I will also try a different type c input adapter. However, it is really annoying to experience it all the time.
This happened to me for the second time. I start worrying if the problem is something else like the charger or the macbook it self. Did apple fixed it for you?
SOLVED - Slow flashing Magsafe 3 Amber light. Hi All. I had the problem with my MacBook Pro 2485 Magsafe 3. Solution = I disconnected the cable from the power supply end and plugged it into a USB C 3 Amp charger. After approximately 60 seconds, I noticed that the duration of the flash had changed; the LED stayed on for a lot longer and took longer to fade. After 20 minutes, the Magsafe LED became constant, so I reconnected the original power supply and my MacBook charged fully. Not sure if it will work with a lower amp power supply? I'll leave you guys to test that and maybe come back and update this thread... Hope this helps you guys
In my case it seems that the cable was malfunctioning. Usb-usb cable does charge my Macbook with the same charger while usb-mag-safe does not even with different charger.
Thanks - that's really interesting. I didn't put it in the video but I tried at USB-C to USB-C and it didn't seem to work. Maybe my cables weren't good enough. Thanks again
I had the same problem. I used mobile charger in C-port. After 5 minutes macbook turned on and then used macbook charger. It woks fine. It happens only when battery drained out completely.
That's really great to hear - congratulations! Who knows, the old charger might start working again soon! Thanks for taking the time to leave a kind comment, I appreciate it.
My MacBook M1 Pro from 2022 has the same issue. Just turned off and now the charger is blinking in orange. I’m trying to charge it with usb c and a third party charger but seems not to work at all. Not even with other MacBook charger I have. The chord and the adapter are perfectly fine and work with another MacBook Pro m3 I have from my job. I hope it’s working for tomorrow 😢

Yeah, my macbook air M2 charger is blinking. There are a couple of things I could try, like the SMC reset, software update and also shaking the laptop while the lid is partially open. 😅. I didn't know that. Its basically playing with the SMS (sudden motion sensor). I love tinkering and trouble shooting but rite now I'm really not in the mood. I'm still within warranty but the hassle. Currently I'm charging the laptop using a phone charger through the USB C port. Seems like there are a lot of people facing this problem huh. What the heck apple? Make your chargers better please.
So sorry to hear this - I didn't know about the shaking the laptop with the lid partially open! Might try that. The blinking hasn't come back for either charger yet. Weird. Good luck with your laptop and thanks for the kind message.
Oh myyyy, thank u so much,, my MacBook air today just went dead and when i tried to charge it, it just wouldn’t, and the cable was just blinking orange all day long,, at this time late at night, i just used my iphone type-c cable to charge my macbook and it worked hah
No way! That's great to hear thanks. It's funny, some chargers can do it and some can't so really pleased that something in the video helps. Good luck with your Macbook!
Had the same problem today. I tried plugin and plugout many time with no result. Watched your video while plugin the charger and went to restroom sadly thinking about how to meet new expense. BUT when I came back everything was normal... IMO keep it plugin for few minutes it will work fine.
Odd seeing as you only uploaded this within the last day. I had exactly the same problem, through a process of deliberation we found it was the wire that was broken, not the magsafe charger. It is at warranty so they will replace the wire. One useful thing to know, in the meantime you can charge using one of the USB-C ports...if you have a USB-C charge cable, I had one from my previous macbook
Thank you so much ! I let my laptop died for couples of days, than I charged it with the usb c cable , then plug it back to MagSafe charger and voila it came back to life 🥳🥳🥳🥳
Hello @EvilL0u I am fetching the same issue , my mac has still 40% charge , I have tried with different adapter, type c and also upgraded the OS to latest but still having the yellow flashing issue. Now only one way left that is completely draining the charge. Should I do that
I had the same problem on my macbook pro. But I didn't had a additional USB-C charger. So I plugged the USB-C cable intro the USB-C port of the same MacBook. Makin a circuit. After that the charger worked again. Looks like the charging need a reset and then it works again.
Fantastic - big thanks for the tip and really pleased you managed to get your macbook working again. Hope it's still running well and thanks again for the kind comment
Just had the exact same thing happen to my 14" MacBook Pro, plugged the original cable into a power bank and bingo, started charging immediately. Totally bizarre, but thanks for the advice.
No cause like my main windows laptop just completely just died. So I went to plug in my laptop i mainly use for school, blinking red light. And thank goodness i have a surge protector that has a USB-C port, cause now i got a solid light. Thanks for stopping my spiraling!
Thanks Neil! I think I'll buy a new charger as you did, my Macbook Air charger cable is blinking orange, I've ordered even a new cable but still doing the same so I think it's the plug. Anyway, I hope the MacBook Air is not ruined!!! Thanks again!
So I just had this happen to me this morning. Honestly, I just charged it with a USB-C cable since that will also work if your magsafe isn't working. Mine is actually a cable issue though, as the charger itself works fine for anyone reading this.
I was experiencing this exact issue. The MacBook would not charge via MagSafe, so I tried with USB C and it powered on immediately. I let it get up to 2% before swapping back to MagSafe and all is normal again. Thanks for posting this video.
Just plug type C of the Magsafe cable into Iphone charger for about 10 minutes to get 2% Macbook battery and plug type C back to Macbook charger and it will come back working probably.
@@neilmossey Very simple, buy a power bank with USB PD and use your Apple cable. The advantage is it works on a variety of other devices. You may agree this is a better option than having two functioning chargers! I use an Anker 25600, which may be overkill but as a photographer it's a dream for the phone and cameras etc. In the office I use a OWC Thunderbolt hub which just uses a usb c cable. Hope that helps.

This is great thanks @bertblank8742 - yes, it really reminds me of the (good) old days when you could pull the battery out! Thanks again.
Woww it worked thankew, i just bought brand new laptop but it was not charging. Your idea helped and saved me some hassle. Thank you🎉
This is actually helpful! Try USB c port for charging
It happens, when the battery is completely drained out. In my case at least, incountered 2 times. I used my Phone charger to charge it upto 1% and then used the macs original charger. It's working fine.

Thank you so very much. You saved me lots of money the laptop repair man was already asking
That was a gold tip. I had the same issue and got a different ubs C charger and it worked. Thanks for sharing!

I have a 2012 MacBook Pro with the 85W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter, but mine is blinking green. Any suggestions?
Oh sorry to hear this Maxx - and that's a new one for me...
Does the help link in the description mention blinking green?
Sorry I can't be more help, but would really like to know what it is now!
Hope you manage to find a fix, and thanks again for the kind question
PS I have a 2012 macbook which I love and it burned through 3 power chargers - literally melted them!
But it still works...
Is the new (second hand) power supply you bought of same wattage?
Hi, thanks for the kind question - yes, the one I got was identical wattage - though some in the comments are saying they fixed this with any charger. Hope this helps

have the same problem... thanks for the advise... I ll go for the new charger... and see what happens ..
I’m just suddenly having this issue with the new m3 pro I’ve had it less then a year and the thing is spotless it hasn’t left my room
I’m taking mine in, I got this a month ago and this has been the issue since day 1
Sorry to hear this -- good luck with your repair and fingers crossed for you and your Mac!
Would you think that resetting the battery software option on the laptop will work? Mine does have a little bit of juice in it to do that.
It's worth a try - but I thought I saw the Apple site say that the M1's reset the software when they start up - but go for it! Hope you managed to get your macbook going again George and thanks for the kind comment

Happens often to my year old 16" MBP M1, usually i just wipe both the port and the charger end with a cloth, it fixes it.
Thanks for the tip! I tried that and just couldn't get it to work, so will try next time if it happens again.

Big thanks for this Joe and hope the Macbook is still running well.
Really appreciate the kind message and update - good luck with your Mac!

Running like a BEAST Thanks Neil.....
In my case it seems that the cable was malfunctioning. Usb-usb cable does charge my Macbook with the same charger while usb-mag-safe does not even with different charger.

I had the same problem. I used mobile charger in C-port. After 5 minutes macbook turned on and then used macbook charger. It woks fine. It happens only when battery drained out completely.
Thanks for helping me to understand the problem. I did the quick fix by giving a little bit of charge to the MacBook using Usb C charger. it worked
You’re a legend
Thanks for the very kind comment, I appreciate it and need to see messages like this from time to time!
Thank you so much , I have to exact same issue . I really do appreciate your video .
Thanks Neil, you save me lot of money and time. I had same issue and got resolved just by using another charger. Thanks a lot for sharing this😊

I hope it’s working for tomorrow 😢
Hello @Furan , what’s your laptops status now? Is that solved? I am actually similar kind of situation

I happen to have a spare charger for my work computer, but my personal laptop flashes red with that one as well. It’s a mystery to me. Any thoughts?
Hi thanks for the kind message.
I should have mentioned my sisters charger is for a macbook Air and a lower wattage, which I don't think should matter but it didn't work.
I also tried a USB-C cable from the charger to USB C port but that didn't work either -- hope you manage to find a fix and thanks again!
This worked thank you! I used my Samsung S23U usb c charger and it worked a charm.
I'd love to know the technical reason why the official charger doesn't seem to charge when the battery is completely flat.
Yeah, my macbook air M2 charger is blinking. There are a couple of things I could try, like the SMC reset, software update and also shaking the laptop while the lid is partially open. 😅.
Thanks for the kind comment and fingers crossed its the charger, or changing the charger brings it back to life. Let us know how you get on... 🤞🙏
Fixed my issue! Thank you!
Thnk u so much i just replaced with iphone charger and now its working
Thanks a lot. It worked for me!
So I just had this happen to me this morning. Honestly, I just charged it with a USB-C cable since that will also work if your magsafe isn't working. Mine is actually a cable issue though, as the charger itself works fine for anyone reading this.
Thanks for the kind message Adams - I wish the USB-C had worked but for some reason it didn't, so pleased it works for you! Thanks again
Since I bought Macbook nothing but issues, can't believe they made me give up on pc
Me salvou!!! Já é a segunda vez em que isso acontece com meu MACBook e da primeira vez eu não sabia como eu tinha resolvido foi na sorte.
Saved me from a HUGE hissy fit. My girlfriend was getting worried lol
I was experiencing this exact issue. The MacBook would not charge via MagSafe, so I tried with USB C and it powered on immediately. I let it get up to 2% before swapping back to MagSafe and all is normal again. Thanks for posting this video.
Thanks for posting this! Had this exact problem and this is what worked!
This totally worked for me🎉
Just plug type C of the Magsafe cable into Iphone charger for about 10 minutes to get 2% Macbook battery and plug type C back to Macbook charger and it will come back working probably.
it's magsafe 3, not 2
Thanks Audric!
I didn’t spend any money, I just waited for 2 - 3 minutes
puede hablar mas claro no le entiendo nada lo que dice
So I’m not going insane?
Guys… just keep it plugged in for a couple of hours. Does the trick.
TLDW: he bought a new charger. It started charging his dead laptop. A couple months later the old charger worked too. He can't explain why.
This charger hasn’t worked since day 1 lol, it’s trash
So the video is… buy a new charger
Not helpful
OMFG it worked ! The dislike button !
that's not red it orange
Most boring voice ever
Silly sausage just reset SMC.
Thanks. How can we do that if there is no power, the battery is empty and it wont power on to reset SMC, which is what happened to me?
@@neilmossey Very simple, buy a power bank with USB PD and use your Apple cable. The advantage is it works on a variety of other devices. You may agree this is a better option than having two functioning chargers! I use an Anker 25600, which may be overkill but as a photographer it's a dream for the phone and cameras etc. In the office I use a OWC Thunderbolt hub which just uses a usb c cable. Hope that helps.
you we're definitely dropped on various blunt objects as a child@@cymontaylor
