Vietnam War Memorial Dedication in Dunwoody, GA

- The dedication of the new Vietnam War Memorial at Brook Run Park was memorable! Dunwoody Mayor Lynn Deutsch, Councilman John Heneghan, and Councilman Rob Price joined the Vietnamese American Community of Georgia (VAC-GA) and the Atlanta Vietnam Veterans Business Association (AVVBA) for the ceremony. Located in Brook Run Park near the existing DeKalb Veterans Memorial, the new monument features an American Infantry soldier and a soldier from the former republic of South Vietnam standing side by side. The VAC-GA and the AVVBA are partners on this project, which was funded entirely through private donations.
This is the only memorial like it in the U.S. created as a partnership between Vietnamese Refugees and U.S. Veterans who fought in Vietnam. The dedication ceremony included two featured speakers. One was Lapthe Chau Flora, U.S. Army Major General (Ret), who escaped Communist Vietnam in 1980 as a child with his family in a boat. The other was Ron Helmly, Lieutenant. General US Army (Ret.), who served two tours in Vietnam and later served as Commanding General of the U.S. Army Reserve Command. Live music was provided by the Golden Eagles Band from the Corps of Cadets at the University of North Georgia. A Huey helicopter that served in combat in Vietnam and a hot-air balloon were on display. For more information or to donate, go to www.VNWarMemorial.org.

I’m from California but my sister is in Atlanta and we were very happy to have our dad’s name engraved in the Memorial.

Thank you for all the soldiers of RVN and the United States, South Korea, Australia, Thailand, New Zealand, and the Philippines who bravely fought the commies and defended our freedom (although short lived but absolutely worth it; well, at at least we as the southerners know what freedom is really like).
I am pretty sure that South Korean would share similar appreciations for the US soldiers during the Korean War.
