I was a proud member of the US Coast Guard Band around 1974-75. We trained in the same barracks with the Color Gaurd and the Honor Gaurd - "Oscar" Company. The amount of training and disciple involved is unimaginable to the average person. Those are real rifles, M1 carbines, 14 pounds with fixed bayonets. Those white gloves are cotton, very slippery handling the heavy rifles. One day in training an honor guardsman had his rifle with bayonet slip through his hand and cut it wide open. This stuff is not childs play.
As a member of the Army Honor Guard way back when, I participated in a few of these wreath laying ceremonies at the Tomb. They're impressive. It also takes a bit of skill to march up and down those marble stairs, especially when they're wet. The Honor Guards did a good job.
OS1(SW/AW) USN Retired here. Spent 4 months in Japan in 1986 while deployed on USS Cape Cod AD 43. Have visited Arlington National Cemetery many times while stationed in Norfolk/Virginia Beach from 1989-2003.
Despite the horrific losses in life and property, one good thing to emerge from WW2 was to have Japan and US allied to the US. One could not ask for a more powerful alliance in history.
Still, the best place is 1/8th of a mile downhill. Far away from symbols of honor is something sacred too. The newest lot is where you will see recent honorees grieve cry and pray. It's where moms present their child to a hero's grave, who never saw them in this life. That is sacred too. Because they live without their parents. Find them. Support them.

As a former sailor with the United States Navy who descends from a large military family, and now that I work directly with the Japanese government, this is huge. In the eyes of Japan, this is the ultimate form of honorable respect. Given our wartime past, this is truly a historic moment, and I am not sure why it did not receive more media coverage.
In 2008 my father was laid to rest in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery. He served in the Navy at the end of WWII and got stationed in Germany. The Naval Honor Guard made me proud of his service and gave him a good bye fit for a king. I can still hear taps and the 21 gun salute to this day and value the empty bullet i received from them. At his graveside service looking at the headstone of all who went before him, i was equally brought to tears looking at my 2 oldest sons and daughter in law, Army, National Guard and Marine and prayed that all would return safety from Iraq and Afghanistan if theirs units deployed again. I thank God he sent my daddy as their guardian angel.
I was fortunate enough to be stationed at Yokota Air Base for 4 years, 2002-2006. I made many friends while there and can honestly say, we Americans are lucky to have the Japanese people as our friends and allies. For what it's worth, I will always feel that way. Respectfully, PMH, MSgt(ret), USAF

As a former member of the Coast Guard Honor Guard i love seeing these. It was such an honor to do these services!
Can't wait to see the 6th Branch Space Force's Honor Guard be part of this beautiful ceremony to make an even 6.
They were there the transporter wasn't working, Scottie is hot on the fix but wasn't sure if he would have enough for them to materialize.
That’ll be a hot mess. Coasties got enough ridicule….
@@skianddie- Why????? I GUARANTEE you that after hard practice they'll be as good as ANY of the drill teams, including the marines!! Why?? Because the facing movements are the same!! "Attention" is the same for all branches!! "Parade Rest" is the same! "At close interval, dress right dress" is the same! "Order Arms" is the same!!! Ninety Nine percent of movements are the SAME between the branches!!! So why, @skianddie...would the Space Force be a "hot mess??". You have NO clue about honor guard requirements, procedures, or the discipline it takes!! I GUARANTEE that the United States Space Force will be just as good as the others, with the proper practice and training!! Additionally, the United States Coast Guard Honor Guard performed magnificently in this ceremony...just as good as the Marines, Army, Air Force, and Navy!! Next time @skianddie...don't be an ignorant dirt bag! Semper Fi
1)these are not drill teams 2)Facing movements are NOT all the same, Army has to modify 3) I have a clue, was there for 3.5 years. I know that plaza like your mama knows me 4)the USMC use to tag on the Coasties constantly, can’t wait to see what they do to “Spacies”😂
@@skianddie- you're a damn liar!! The movements ARE the same...just like I mentioned above!! I was part of the Marines Honor Guard for almost 7 years, and I personally know members of the other branches!! There's VERY little difference!! You have NO CLUE!! You're just some dumb civilian that's never served a day in his life!! Go away faker, or I'll report you for stolen valor!! 😂😂
I'M FORMER ARMY AND MARINES, I LOVE WATCHING THIS. I'VE BEEN IN MANY DIVISION CEREMONIES IN COLD AND HOT WEATHER IN KOREA, OKINAWA AND THE STATES. I'M 60 NOW, AND ITS GREAT WATCHING THIS AS AN AMERICAN VETERAN
Thank you for your service!!!!

いやもう5軍集まってるのとか鳥肌だし正装かっこいいし、、、ほんとありがとうございます。
This is an honor above all honors
I was a proud member of the US Coast Guard Band around 1974-75. We trained in the same barracks with the Color Gaurd and the Honor Gaurd - "Oscar" Company. The amount of training and disciple involved is unimaginable to the average person. Those are real rifles, M1 carbines, 14 pounds with fixed bayonets. Those white gloves are cotton, very slippery handling the heavy rifles. One day in training an honor guardsman had his rifle with bayonet slip through his hand and cut it wide open. This stuff is not childs play.
LEST WE FORGET HAND SALUTE FOR ALL WHO SERVED.
They saved the best for last. The USCG! My son is retired after 26 years service.
Bless all of them!❤❤❤
great honor to have this man attend the honoring of the unknown soldier.
As a member of the Army Honor Guard way back when, I participated in a few of these wreath laying ceremonies at the Tomb. They're impressive. It also takes a bit of skill to march up and down those marble stairs, especially when they're wet. The Honor Guards did a good job.
Thank you four service.
As a former member of the Girl Scouts, listening to TAPS my skin gets goosies every time!
Thank you
My husband paid the price for our freedom and now look what's happening to our wonderful country 😢
Thanks for your husband sacrifice 🙏

OS1(SW/AW) USN Retired here. Spent 4 months in Japan in 1986 while deployed on USS Cape Cod AD 43. Have visited Arlington National Cemetery many times while stationed in Norfolk/Virginia Beach from 1989-2003.
I'm Steve from the UK 🇬🇧 big respect to our American brothers in arms

Despite the horrific losses in life and property, one good thing to emerge from WW2 was to have Japan and US allied to the US. One could not ask for a more powerful alliance in history.
Still, the best place is 1/8th of a mile downhill. Far away from symbols of honor is something sacred too. The newest lot is where you will see recent honorees grieve cry and pray. It's where moms present their child to a hero's grave, who never saw them in this life. That is sacred too. Because they live without their parents. Find them. Support them.
LOVE AMERICA AND SUPPORT HER AS MANY HAVE AND DIED FOR HER
I wanna thank all our brave amazing veterans who we appreciate and r extremely grateful, thankful for theres really no words to express my appreciation and the respect i have for them all ur true heros in my eyes anytime u come across one of them please take the time they deserve to thank them and let them know how much their appreciated god bless 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Thankz in your'z service 💖❤💚💙💜🙏🙏🙏
As a former sailor with the United States Navy who descends from a large military family, and now that I work directly with the Japanese government, this is huge. In the eyes of Japan, this is the ultimate form of honorable respect. Given our wartime past, this is truly a historic moment, and I am not sure why it did not receive more media coverage.
.My husband proudly seved in. the Honor Guard. 1980's Coast Guard. Thank yoj

Watching this, I feel so much love for my brothers and sisters in arms.
This is so beautiful. I almost forgot how everything echos so loudly.
Highest respect for the Honor Guard 🇺🇸
RESPECT!🇨🇦
This is a great honor for both the United States and Japan. My mother gave 5 of hers son to serve and defend this great country. Great ceremony!

I was fortunate enough to be stationed at Yokota Air Base for 4 years, 2002-2006. I made many friends while there and can honestly say, we Americans are lucky to have the Japanese people as our friends and allies. For what it's worth, I will always feel that way.
