In Scotland, lifers start their sentence in a unit called "national induction centre" in hmp shotts...its a very soft touch approach to get them used to their sentence. From there they either stay in shotts or move to another long term prison..I've talked to many lifers on my journey through the system. A lot of them just carry on like they are doing a few years..
I found this really interesting. Thank You Ricky. I have had a couple of nights in a Police cell before in my younger days, nightmare. I just could not imagine doing 25 years
Hi Ricky did you know Jerry Bamber still says he is not guilty of killing he's family Mick now living in Spain 👍👍😎 nice one Ricky what about lifers in Gartree
All new life sentenced inmates started their time in the prison hospital under some sort of observation, 15 mins or 60 mins. They were always interviewed by medical staff on their return from court to ascertain their state of mind. They usually only stayed a couple of days,as in most cases it wasn’t a shock
Well done rickie my son doing life with 17 yrs rec hes done 10 now took him few yrs to settle into it but keeping his head down waiting for his cat C in gartree at this time
Exactly life in U.K is not the death sentence it would be in the U.S were you get hundreds of years and its game over. 17 years is a big chunk but if he is young enough going in he can still have a life afterwards and a good quality of life
I do like your videos. You talk honestly and openly. I have been on a lifers wing before in B cat prison. I've only met one lifer who has kept their mind strong throughout their sentence. As a person who has done a considerable sentence, I honestly know that. If you get life. You were in that life. And it's cliché but crime equals time. I have a few friends doing life and they have finally excepted it because they were in that life.
I was in Rochester in 2020 and my friend, who's serving a life sentence, was asked to go and speak to another prisoner who was struggling with it being Xmas, even though he'd been down since 2007. They had both commited there crimes in 2007 and had both been down 13 years but H dealt with it far better than T.
Used to make my head shake the amount of really really good artists are in jail and they have never done it before, my mate from the out and pad mate had lines of people wanting portraits there was nearly as many screws who used to be at the door with 2oz of gv for one lol 😆

good way of explaining how lifers cope with a sentence..60sand 70s early 80s a few lifers did top themseves..once they realised the magnitude of ther sentence.however long term jails are a lot different today.i also assume the attitude of the screws is different...take care ricky .i enjoy the vids..
If the liferr becomes accustomed to their wing, then surely if they are moved on to another prison it must seem like starting all over again. Really don't know how they maintain their sanity.. Thanks for the video Ricky, this is a good insight and educational.👍
I don’t think that I would survive. I would probably unalive myself as the thought is just so awful!! I didn’t even enter the cells at our local police station when I worked there, I passed their meals through the slot. Even when the cells were empty they were not nice and I never wanted to go in at all.
I'm sorry mate I'm on my arse. But you are doing a great job. When things are looking up for me I will definitely subscribe. Well done from one Gordie to another
Hey Ricky. Another great video. I've heard of a new Channel 5 documentary: Banged up Britain's toughest jails. It sounds interesting to see... From the outside that is.
You got that wrong. The first application for leave is made on the papers. If the paper judge turns it down, the application can be renewed to the full court. If the full court turns it down, that is the end in normal circumstances.
I’ve just found this episode on my phone Ricky that I haven’t seen yet mate and I’m glad I did find it mate. To get life without parole, s person would have had to have done something particularly heinous such as the premeditated murder of a child or a police officer, or have committed terrorism or high treason.
Just got out of private run Forest bank in Manchester, Lads who come in with Valentino clothes on. Kidnapped in a cell and filmed having boiling water poured on them whilst being filmed . The footage sent to their family's along with a bank account number for them to place thousands of pounds in ,to stop there relatives being tortured . The screws are mostly under 25 some look like they just came from school. They don't run the jail they just over see it. Some are as scared as the prisoners being tortured. Mental health cases in the block, Scared to go on the wings. Treated like animals by the block screws who try to force them back onto the wings. People in the block covered in there own shit and setting there cells on fire, Just moved to another cell and a prison cleaner sent in to clean the pad. Night cocky's openly passing drugs from one cell to another through the little bolt they unscrew in the door. The place is a joke and will end up in a major riot in the not to distant future.
In the 90s I was HMP Doncaster as a yoi it was a private jail and the screws didn’t have a clue they were all ex miners with no experience. The lads on wing ran thing generally Leeds lads.
