So glad you are ok! To be honest, I was not surprised you fixed the car in a few hours. You're prepared for worse🤣 If anyone wants to see different angle of the impact: th-cam.com/video/QQETKKoSU30/w-d-xo.html
That's just old cars for ya! People often think less damage = good. But they forget that these cars had pretty much zero crumble zones, without a harness it would've been quite a nasty accident.
@@WARXion you'd be absolutely insane to drive at the speed I do in a car like this without a cage, full harness and seats. As you say, they are old cars with very minor crumple zones
The same thing causes everyone to spin. Initially you caught it but once the car rotates to the right, the rear wheels touch the grass and at that point you are along for the ride. Ive seen this exact accident happened mire times than I am remember. Really glad you escaped unhurt.
The only difference i see is at the entrance on the left video driving over the white line and in combination with the lower temps. The white lines tend to be a bit more slippery but good to see that you are okay and the car was not heavily damaged
Really you made it out with not a scratch and really pleased this little beastie only got away with essentially superficial damage, having an off that bad and coming out with so little to repair is incredible!
I agree with Nico2006. In my view, you slightly touched the curb on the right side. This lifted the right side of the car with the consequence, that the right back of the car lost downforce. When you then turned left, the rear right tire could not hold on and the car started to slide. At this point, you were only passenger. Glad that you have not been hurt in this crash. And only minor damage to the car.
Good call straightening the wheel before the nose hit, I broke an outer tie rod in a not too dissimilar event on the Hungaroring. Main thing is you did a follow-up lap and you'll be back, so you're in an exclusive club now - the people who had a hit, but fixed the car and came back. A+
Glad nothing happend to you, love your Golf❤. Rolled over mine at a Rallye, now rebuilding it since three years with a new Chassis, so I'm happy you haven't to do that much😅
Alright Nige, glad to see you walked out unscathed. Would have to agree with your conclusion you got away with it, could have been much worse. I'm sure the Pinderwagen will be back bigger and better soon. I was going to try and blag a passenger ride, but now with your driving, I'm not so sure....😉
bad/good luck there Nige. Was good catching you at Spa briefly the other day after all those years. The bangs out of your Golf on upshifts are mildly frightening driving behind it! Sometimes crashes are just not possible to get a definitive conclusion on the cause. Did seem you were a bit further on the right at turn-in and maybe just touched the kerb which unsettled it but impossible to ascertain to the necessary level of precision.
Luckily it wasn't a big damage and that makes me happy. We look forward to seeing you and the #pinderwagen back in action as soon as possible. Greetings from Italy.
I thought that was the end of the pinderwagon at first😦 Soooo glad you are alright and soooo glad the pinderwagon lives on ! Can't believe you managed to get it back out on track so quick 👍
Aaaah Nigel, Im so sorry! We did a lap together many years ago! I think it was 2016. This accident was just bad luck mate. I think you had the rear left still on the dirt while hitting the brakes. What an unlucky split second. This one came unexpected. Im glad you are okay. Thank you for staying alive and unharmed! Much love from Dubai!
Glad you are ok, and that it's only minor damage. When you hit the curb with the car already unsettled it was a lost cause, and you got away in the best possible way I think.
So happy to see you were not injured. Big ups for going out again so soon. My wife and I rolled and totaled my Audi S3 (MY2018). It took me some time to get behind the wheel again after that experience.
Glad you are fine !! I think it is a combinaison of late turn in + you were a but too much to the right before turn in. For this turn, against the principle of always using all the track, it is better to let a bit space with the curve for car stability. When too close to the curve in addition to late turn in, you have to turn more the wheel to get to the apex and with the G unloading for the rear, it snapped. Also you could have a bit too much brake while turning which also unload rear. I saw some one doing almost the same crash but with a gt3 rs. I will post the link when i can
nice to meet you this past week mate im so glad you came out of that accident unscaved! And the car too (Relatively speaking) See you again soon! i want a lap next time
Nice one, I looked a few times at the video footage and my idea is that when you come on top of the fuchsrohre, at the right side, you braked (lightly) and touched the curbs. That makes your wheel lose a fraction of contact grip and makes the brakes go awol. Rear left and front right (as they are so connected if still using the oem brake setup) lock up for a moment and makes your car unbalanced, From there on it escalated quickly into a spin. You have to see the above three lines in a fraction of a second. But hey that is my idea, could be wrong. I have the same sort of almost crash when I took Wipperman years ago and probably also touched the brakes slightly....
Lucky guy! Glad you’re ok! Go-pros don’t convey the speed you’re actually travelling through there! It’s a scary part of the track! 10/10 for getting back out after!
Thought it was going to be so much worse! Still made it out for the last lap 😂 Glad you came out unscathed. The aggression in your expletive scared me more than the crash. A side of Nige I’ve not witnessed before! Good to see you doing a talking video as well 😉👍
If you look at 5:55, your turn in angle is a few degrees sharper than the previous lap. Front bites, rear steps out. Now you have to correct, which you did, but drove over the kerb. The critical mistake here is holding the correction over the kerb. As soon as your front wheels get back on pavement, your rears have no grip comparatively. This darts the nose right as the rear end comes around again. Then the tank slapper sends you off. Differential grip is so difficult to correct over, but rule of thumb is back off, wheel straight, fix it then ease back up to speed. This is a hard one because usually 3 mistakes in a row is that threshold which brings you down, but in this case, the second mistake put the nail in the coffin. Just my observation, hope you get it all fixed up soon! Glad to see the contact was minimal.
@5:52 the right side is on the curb ye, just slightly sets the car off a bit by bouncing i reckon? Then loses traction causing you to try correct with a quarter left. All is good tho!
First of all im realy happy you are totaly fine! Last mondey 10-4 i had almost on the same point a nearly crash, came trough the foxhole brake hard in straight line and here i start sliding, so far i have only done 9 laps but realy cant figure it out what happend there 😵 was doing like 200-210 through foxhole
Given the speed, gradient and the fact that you're turning and braking, only minor differences will cause the rear to go light. The is slightly more steering lock and aggressive turn in than the crash lap (only a minor difference) which could cause the front to bite more after any scrub of any initial understeer from braking. That heavier front bite and weight transfer forward would result in quicker change in weight transfer and balance forward than usual and therefore the temporary loss in rear grib that caused the incident. Data on brake trace would also be useful to see
Very glad to see you're ok and the car still running! and amazing stuff getting it fixed up and going out again so quickly! I've nearly binned it there too in almost identical circumstances - only got away with it because it was a very forgiving car. The right hand side of the track after the foxhole compression seems to pull cars in and unsettle them under braking and turn-in
