    The good book says no, just replace.... Now, I have read on the forums that it can be done but the only issue with that Is finding the replacement seals... you dont know till you try..I have two old ones but have never bothered to rebuild one,.. and thats just because you can find them on ebay really cheap rather then trying to track parts down, waiting on shipping times.. ect.

    Quick question: did you ever receive an error code? Because, I received a SD or 5D and as I research it indicates the Steering Damper.

      What up marvin, on the 04-05 GSXR this is not possible, the Damper is stand alone and has no electrical connection to the ECM.. what year GSXR do you have?

  • @JamesBrown-vt9kr

    Replacing benefits the manufacturer not the customer plus i think when they meant replace they meant with a brand new steering damper and not a used one. It is very simple to service though if leaking and has air (the deadspot you feel when turning). If they were not meant to be serviced there would not be nuts on each end and would not have a bleeder hole where the small nut is. Only issue might be finding the exact seals if the one you have is damaged and leaking. I would recommend servicing those dampers every 2 years or so because the oil for one wear over time and the seals might gather dirt and start leaking.
    Nice video though.

    I have k8 600cc and I have a Sd code on. Is the steering damper or it could be something else ?

    • @TheChemistDIY
      @TheChemistDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Check the plug connection at the damper. Disconnect and Spray it with some electrical contact cleaner and reconnect and see if the code goes away.. if not put the bike in dealer mode and see if any other codes are being thrown..

    • @TheChemistDIY
      @TheChemistDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I did a little research on this on the forums and this is what I uncovered as possible resolutions to your problem.
      1. No one knows if the error code read Sd or 5d..lol
      2. Some have reported it being a low power issue or charging issue. Check to make sure your battery is charged and sits at the correct voltages at all times.
      3. Regular rectifier is going bad and the bikes charging system is not working properly. Test the RR and see if your charging system is working correctly. There is a recall on this and the dealership may replace for free if it hasent been done already.
      4. Dirty contacts on the connector and steering stabilizer. You're going to want to use some electrical contact cleaner and spray them both down to ensure a good connection, inspect the pins in here as well.
      5. Broken wire connection at the steering stabilizer connector. You're going to want to inspect the wiring at the plug to ensure there are not cracked or broken wires. Some have reported that the wire length is too short and when you turn your handlebars from left to right this tends to pull on the cabling too hard causing it to break or damage the connection. If this is true in your case then you're going to want to extend these wires so it doesn't happen again.
      6. Dirty or foul speed sensor. Remove the speed sensor inspect clean and reinstall. Make sure the bolt is tightened that keeps it attached to the engine casing.
      If the problem isn't corrected some have reported the bike will stall, shut off completely and won't start again. Also issues with the gauge cluster not reporting milage or freezing at certain intervals.
      I hope this information helps you out, please come back and let us know once you resolve the issue and what the resolution was.

      james moreno I believe it’s my rectifier, my battery died bike wasn’t turning on and the battery was couple of months old. I will have to replace the rectifier and there is a recall on it. I believe that’s the problem. Cuz the bike is working just fine with a new battery and the code is gone.

    • @TheChemistDIY
      @TheChemistDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cool, well you can perform a RR test on your own to see if your getting the correct values across the international diodes.. you should also test the stator and see what it's putting out.. while the regular rectifier may be free this time around due to the recall warranty you may want to look into getting a MOSFET from roastercycles.com if it happens again. I have one and swear by it being the best.

    • @TheChemistDIY
      @TheChemistDIY  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This part does not have any monitoring system so you will not see any errors codes. Its more of a feeling & knowing your bike, (mechanics intuition)

      @@TheChemistDIY like the piece itself, like when I flick it with my finger it moves, took it to the dealer and they said it was fine it’s supposed to do that, I feel it should be tight, no movement at all

    • @TheChemistDIY
      @TheChemistDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ok I understand now. So yes it does move when mounted to the bike... finger flick, well not so much so I would say. You have to remember that one end of the smooth rod sits on a ball joint while the reset just float insides two rubber bushing, so there's going to be some play or rattling feeling when tugging at it.
      The major thing you should be looking out for is the left to right movement and a sudden loss of stiffness when doing so. This feeling is most commonly felt when when making left or right turns at slow speeds and feels like the bikes is going to fall on you as the damper just suddenly loses stiffness and the bike shifts real quick.
      Hope that answers your question.

    • @TheChemistDIY
      @TheChemistDIY  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's all just a matter of preference really. I prefer underneath because it allows me to use the center stem hole for my phone holder, ..
      Plus I don't have to disassemble it to get under the tank... and lastly.. I just think it looks cleaner.

      @@TheChemistDIYcan it be revised? like with forks? ?

    • @TheChemistDIY
      @TheChemistDIY  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Mr.WinterI mean anything can be modifued to fit any situation, just requires a little welding. You just need one stable point (the frame), and the point your trying to stabilize (the forks) . If you look at the aftermarket stabilizer setup, youll see that its fixed point is usually to one of the two gas tank bolts and the other is end connects to the forks by way of fork nut or something that attaches to the forks or tripple clamp.. The OEM is sort of reverse of that, on the bottom end, only using casted arm and guid pin to the respective mounting locations.

      @@TheChemistDIY I ended up running my 750 on the dyno 3 seperate days with months of separation. I used 3 different settings, using the zero map and adjusting manually. I did this because I was making improvements along the way. New chain, sprockets, throttle body hoses and TPS adjustment and STPS adjustment valve clearance and stva repair. I wanted to see the improvement at each stage. Yesterdays Dyno run was 64% humidity.
      I ran it +4 ticks rich in low, mid and high. Yes, it was rich, but you won't believe the results and not far off first two runs. Long story short, I have three different results from stock map(zero map) to +4 ticks. All results were consistent and strong. At the end of the day, it's only slightly noticeable depending on what you are looking to get out of the engine performance. If anything, this will give you an idea of what to expect.
